Sorry Father's Day fun yesterday
Arcana: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
The strange chronomantic magics perplexed the wizard, whose logical mind was mixed up and turned around by the paradoxes inherent in the Weave tendrils he sensed. Still, he was well trained enough to get the gist of Mender's suggestion "...aye. Cain't nullify the circle yerself. I'll help ye."
Would cast identify but don't want to spend the 10 minutes since we are a bit crunched for time.
Aeshuura |
Seemingly trapped in time, the woman does not respond...
Are you guys looking to try and free her? Or are you going to deliberate more?
Sir Gorum |
Arcana: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
When the others start talking about “temper oil” and “chrono” stuff, Gorum looks confused. For a moment, it seems may have realized something. Then he merely picks a piece of crab meat from his teeth that had gotten stuck there from Madge’s delicious gifted crab cakes.
ok so she is stuck in a stasis, but that doesn’t explain the room being untouched and clean.
Aeshuura |
Gorum pulls out his crabcakes and hears a whimper behind him, coming from a shadowed corner, followed by a growl? Almost like a stomach grumbling...
Ionnis |
Is there more to this place? Any floors below this one? Also does this woman have blonde hair (is there a chance she's the chick we're looking for)?
Io turns toward the grumble sound...
Aeshuura |
There is a stairway leading below, but it heads into the water after a few steps.
--
You see a creature emerge from the shadows, drooling as it is clearly fixed on the crabcake that Gorum is about the take a bite from... It is not as threatening as the picture below may indicate...
Aeshuura |
I added the woman's picture to Slide 2. Because of the field surrounding her, it has distorted her coloration. She is light haired, so she may be blonde?
Sir Gorum |
According to Io’s stat block, no trained Arcana. I was hoping maybe you had it Mender.
Startled a little at first Gorum instinctively puts his hand on his axe handle. Then seeing the creature and hearing it ask for food, Gorum shrugs and nods to the creature. ”Yeah sure, you gotta tell us what’s goin on around here though. “ he says as he produces a slightly damp crab cake from one of his pouches. ”Sorry, it got a little wet on our way down.”
Ionnis |
I earlier pointed out I do not have Arcana as a trained skill but that was a bit vague as it was in convo. I think Z does.
History check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Hearing Groum pipe up, Io waits to see how the little dude responds. He's not sure what it is, and is surprised they didn't spot him or her earlier.
Aeshuura |
The ugly creature takes it and devours it hungrily, Nomf, nomf, ah... Vigs thanks you, he does! Vigs has been eating only quippers for over 10 years!
After holding his stomach for a few beats, obviously sated, he continues, What's is it that youse want to know?
Ionnis |
Vigs, who is this woman here? he asks, gesturing towards her. He mutters under his breath Please don't say she's cursed, too....
Aeshuura |
Vigs scrunches up his nose, This womans is the one that ruined me life! Her and that blasted witch! Madge Figgy tricked me into stealing this womans away! Then she abandoned me! Trapped in this hell!
The short humanoid wrings his hands in a throttling motion, If'n I gets me hands around that witches neck...
Zdravko |
Arcana: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
The strange creature was wholly alien to the dwarf, but he let the disgusting little beast speak...seemed like it would just take one good crack upside the head to spill its brains out, the more he looked at it. And he had trained years for such maneuvers.
"Nay, you have it wrong. That woman took us in, fed us, helped us in gettin' here. Now why would she do that if she wanted ye to stay trapped, eh?"
Insight, lie detection: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Aeshuura |
Zdravko narrows his eyes, trying to read the ugly creature, but he cannot find anything to refute the thing's claims!
Vigs giggles with delight, Witch Figgy sent you here?!?
The smile begins to vanish from its face, You work for her? She sent you to kill me!
Vigs turns to run to the shadowed corner, a look of terror on its face!
Ionnis |
Wait! No, we don't work for anyone. We're just trying to help. And that means helping you, too. Please, we mean you no harm. But my friend is right, she helped us get here. He shakes his head. This is so confusing.
I feel like a roll of some sort is going to be needed, so I will throw out a random 1d20 ⇒ 17.
Aeshuura |
Vigs looks cautiously back at Io and surveying everyone else's demeanor, What's she be wanting? Why would she help you... unless she's afeared of the elveses?[b]
A look of realization dawns on its face, [b]She wants the lady! She must want to do some skullduggerous magicks on her! Eat her souls, maybe!
This lady's been me only friend out 'ere... Not much good company like this though. If'n I help you, will you help me get out o' here and revenge on Madge Figgy?
.Mender |
History: 1d20 ⇒ 16
"No, you poor thing. We want to return her to her home and those who care for her. I offer you no violence, and would be happy to at least help you get out of here. What you choose to do after that is up to you."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
"Will you help us?"
Aeshuura |
You help me, I will help you! Vigs looks at Zdravko, You are a magic man! Who else makes the magic?
With Vigs' help, you no longer need Arcana trained and the two making the Arcana check have advantage.
Vigs looks concerned, But, once the circle is broken, the waters come in... and Vigs is scared of the waters... But you'll help Vigsy, right?
Ionnis |
I am untrained but have a nice +2 for Arcana! Can I use the random roll I made in the last post for the Arcana check? If so, Io will tell Vigs about his cloak.
To Vigs, So wait, just wait a moment. So this woman here is your only friend but also the one who trapped you? Can you tell us what happened? We need to be prepared for what will happen if we break this magic time circle! And Madge, looks like my friends were right, there is more to her than what she let on, we will deal with that later. But like Mender here says, we have no reason to bring harm to her. At least not yet.
Aeshuura |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
@Io, I actually used that as your Persuasion check to get Vigs to stop his retreat and help you... Mender helped too.
No, no, no, Vigs shakes his head, Madge Figgy trapped me here, abandoning me after I helped her spirit THIS lady away!
Ionnis |
Arcana: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 FFS Well Io definitely will mention about that cloak! Gonna give the others a minute to chime in, otherwise we're going for a swim with two witch's prisoners.
Aeshuura |
This? Vigs says, indicating his makeshift pants, Gets me to dry lands, and I gives it to you!
Aeshuura |
Vigs thinks hard, then runs up the stairs and returns with a ratty pair of pants, the cloak resting over his shoulder...
Sir Gorum |
Gorum pulls out another crab cake and begins eating while the others plan. ”Witch or no witch, this lady knows how to make crab cakes.”
Gorum is a man of action. If the plan is to free the time trapped lady and swim to freedom, the half or is game. If the plan is to sit here and get mired in our own form of time stasis, Gorum is not OK with that. You have until our supply of crab cakes runs out to decide,.
Aeshuura |
I think that one was for the cloak. As far as I know, you haven't started depowering the circle... Oh and I forgot to answer one of Io's questions...
As if remembering something Vigs turns to Ionnis, Oh, yeah, the circle is tieded to this air bubble... No circle, no air! Then the waters come!!!
There is a look of abject terror on the little guy's face, and it becomes abundantly clear that he is deathly afraid of the water, and what might be beyond it. It is also clear that he doesn't really understand what the cloak he as is...
Ionnis |
With the little guy's permission, Io will show Viggs how to properly wear the cloak and assures him it will help him be a better swimmer. Before anyone begins to break the spell, Io will randomly snag at least one or two of the books upstairs, I mean, they're priceless relics that need to be preserved (in a library)!
So...how do we do this time-breaking thing? Io asks, cracking his knuckles as though that will help with any spell casting.
Aeshuura |
Vigs is excited when Io teaches him about the cloak, and looks almost like he will just bail on you all... but with a tiny shake of his head, the Meazel starts, Okay, okay, you.
Vigs points to Zdravko the moves over to one side of the frozen lady, You stands here.
Then the little green man points to Io and then to the opposite side of the circle, You stand there.
Standing between them, just outside the circle, Watch me closerly!
As if playing a game of Cat's Cradle, Vigs dips his fingers into the weave of the circle, then looks at each of Zdravko and Ionnis with anticipation.
Z and Io, make an Intelligence (Arcana), to understand what Vigs is doing, or Dexterity (Arcana), to copy what Vigs is doing, at advantage.
Zdravko |
If you'll allow, before the water comes I'd like to Minor Conjuration a wax coating on my spellbook so it doesn't get bespoiled.
Dex Arcana: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Dex Arcana, adv: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Zdravko mimic'ed the meazel as best as his stubby dwarf fingers could allow... "Mmm. I follow ye...seems sound." raising an eyebrow in suspicion of what was to follow.
Aeshuura |
Relatively unnecessary. Remember that Madge gave you oilskins. They do not show as magic, so in light of your recent knowledge about her, you do not think they will be threatening to your spellbook. But, yes, that is totally possible.
Zdravko expertly mimics the intricate movements of Vigs with flourish. With each plucking of the weave, a pulse runs the circle.
Ionnis |
Sorry, sorry, weirdly busy for a Friday.
Arcana with that Dex: 1d20 ⇒ 31d20 ⇒ 17 +3
Thank you advantage, I'll take that 20.
Io has no idea what the magical implications of what Vig is doing are, but he can copy what he's doing no problem.
Aeshuura |
No worries, we are coming up on the main stretch...
With the deftness of a hustler running Three-care Monte in the tavern, Ionnis pulls at the weave of the magic circle, causing the ripples across its face. When the ripples and pulses cross, there is a sound almost like glass shattering, but it reverberates through your chest!
As the color returns, and time speeds up to match yours, Lady Lenedriel's eyes flutter open, What is... where am... where is... Jerrold?
The woman is obviously confused, and on the verge of panic. Those with sharper ears can hear water begin pouring into the library above...
This could be tricky. It is clear that she does not have any clue as to what may have happened. She may not even have any sense that time has passed. It is clear, as well, that she does not trust any of you...
.Mender |
"Listen to me very carefully, as we have very little time to explain: We are underwater, and the water itself is going to begin rising shortly. You were a prisoner until we freed you. Take some deep breaths, as we're going to have to go into the water. We will help you."
Persuasion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Mender gives her his most reassuring smile, then says "Deep breaths." he then turns to Vigs and says "You as well. Deep breaths."
"Gorum, would you help her swim? I'll help Vigs."
Aeshuura |
Your celestial friend, who until recently had been summoning the authority of the heavens, projects an aura of calm as he addresses the confused woman. Still clearly afraid, she nods meekly and begins taking cute little breaths as you would expect a noble woman to.
Mender's reassuring smile and reinforcement breaks through and he gets her to deepen her breathing.
Vigs gulps huge breaths, and at Ionnis' urging, puts on the oversized cloak, wrapping a makeshift belt around his waist. There is a little bit of a humorous exchange as Io keeps telling him to remove the belt, so as to not interfere with the cloak's abilities...
--
You head upstairs to see the water spilling in...
Anything else you want to do before you leave?
Ionnis |
I grabbed a few of those books already and Mender’s words for once are perfect (!!) so....am hoping our breathing spell is still on but big breaths anyways. Let’s go!
