Welcome St. John Smyth, Jungle Jack, Saaz Daga, Ambriel Kogalnica, Erinnell Hopeworth to Serpents Skull! Please read over the player's guide which can be downloaded for free here.
You can post any out of character conversations in this thread as well as questions for me or to other players and when you are going to be gone for an extended period of time please let me know here.
I know I said I would be getting things started today in the recruitment thread but its possibly going to be tomorrow and more than likely going to be Monday before things get kicked off.
Just a reminder when things go live in the gameplay thread I would like for each of you to please try and post once per weekday if you can. I know life happens and I'm not super strict about this but the one post per day helps things move along. I do not expect players to post on weekends because I rarely will(Unless I work Saturdays but that's the only exception).
Saaz Daga |
So I was originally going to go Life Mystery but if I’m skills I’m more than happy to look through them for a more utility granting one (will do so once I officially wake up after a bit heh)
Eri I think is Battle?
Ambriel Kogalnica |
Thank you for picking me Mathpro! You know I was in a Jade Regent campaign of yours way back :)
Hi fellow players! This should be a trip! Never played an arcane full caster before. Suggestions are welcome (please help me!).
Ambriel Kogalnica |
Hey there Aleister, You'll pick up PbP quickly. We won't demand much of you, just we we don't demand much of ourselves. :p
Saaz Daga |
So Inqusitor skills and picks so far:
Bluff (Cha)
Climb (Str)
Craft (Int)
Diplomacy (Cha)
Disguise (Cha)
Heal (Wis)
Intimidate (Cha)
Knowledge (arcana) (Int)
Knowledge (dungeoneering) (Int)
Knowledge (nature) (Int)
Knowledge (planes) (Int)
Knowledge (religion) (Int)
Perception (Wis)
Profession (Wis)
Ride (Dex)
Sense Motive (Wis)
Spellcraft (Int)
Stealth (Dex)
Survival (Wis)
Swim (Str)
With 12 Int and the Cunning Feat I can nab 2 more skill points, trying to decide where to plug those in at.
Saaz Daga |
Oh! Totally forgot about Spirit Ridden, perfect for a Ravener Hunter :3
Aleister VII |
I can help with diplomacy and intimidate, besides that... I pick know. History for the ruins and those stuff, religion for flavor and perception just in case, the more eyes the party has, the better, my main draw however are the spells, guidance looks like a nice buff for skill checks and my level 1 spells are bless and shield of faith, both are buff and I plan to make AoO my main source of damage with my glaive.
Saaz Daga |
That was my thinking as well, focus on the Perception and Knowledges first :3
And ah crap, a friend just pointed out to me that while Ravener Hunters get Mysteries and Revelations they don't change the required ability from Charisma to Wisdom >_<
With GM's permission can I use Wisdom for them? If not okies, just have to be even more careful with what I pick.
(was gonna go Life then Channel for my first revelation but still looking them over and comparing them now that we getting the group together)
Ambriel Kogalnica |
I can cover Knowledge areas very well, but that's about it as far as skills go.
If we're going to need to invest in Climb/Swim right away I almost wonder if I shouldn't switch feats from Toughness to Breadth of Experience. That would allow Ambriel to make knowledge checks untrained and I'd still have a decent bonus in all of them, even if I pulled a couple of points for climb and swim.
Of course a point in climb/swim each doesn't help much, just brings Ambriel out of penalty territory so I don't know if it's even worth it.
Any thoughts on it anyone?
St. John Smythe |
Thank you for the invite mathpro! For those that don't know St. John is pronounced sin jin.
I've got to figure my skills out. I had swim already but I need to get rid of two skills as St. John was made with background skills. I'll probably keep dungeoneering and geography and lose intimidate. Not sure what else to get rid of.
Saaz Daga |
I was looking in to traits, I think Vagabond child cause "you grew up among outcasts and outlaws of society"... which is technically true since Saaz is from Ilizmagorti XD
Plus Spirit Ridden.
Jungle Jack |
Jack is really good at Survival-- he gets a bonus of half his level on it, so I figure it's better to max it out. That and Perception, of course. He doesn't have very many skill points, but I imagine his family paid for him to scale a minor mountain in Andoran at one point, so I gave him a point of Climb. I figure he'll get a rank of Swim next level. After that I'll probably have him take Acrobatics.

Well, the GM basically said that we will need those skills, so maximizing your chances seems smart to me. To that end, maybe Ambriel happened to learn the spell monkey fish instead of investing in Climb or Swim? That would certainly come in handy if she had it prepared, more so than the trained bonus in those skills.
Jungle Jack |
Ha! Well, when you only get 3 skill points each level, you have to be frugal with them. :P I figure the +3 bonus for training in Climb and Swim is worth being a couple of ranks behind in Acrobatics.
Ambriel Kogalnica |
Of course! Monkeyfish! My alchemist in Skulls and Shackles uses it. I haven't re-evaluated the spell book yet, and hadn't thought to look for it on the list.
Thanks Jack!
Agatsu Hulla |
Hey guys! Thanks for having me! Excited to be here.
Thanks for the invite, Mathpro! Looking forward to finally play together again ;)
Agatsu Hulla |
Take care, "sin jin"! Hope you have fun over there, mate.
On the game subject guys: Agatsu is a ranger focused mostly in melee. Right now he fights mostly with his greatsword, but I plan to switch to the orc double axe once I have the right feats for it.
He's a tracker and can help with survival and knowledge nature. He will start getting more "feral"-looking in some levels once he starts getting the aspects. I switched skills around to handle swim and climb.
He's a bit wild, loves nature and animals and is a little bit of rude, but trust me when I say he has a big loyal heart towards the ones he trusts :)

You can use wisdom

Besides perception, skills that I feel we always need to have at least one person prepared for:
Acrobatics - Agatsu
Diplomacy - Erinnelle
Disable Device
Linguistics
Sense Motive
Spellcraft - Ambriel
Stealth - Saaz
Survival - Jack, Agatsu
Use Magic Device - Ambriel
The knowledges (* for the ones to identify creatures):
Arcana* - Ambriel
Dungeoneering* - Saaz
Engineering
Geography - Ambriel
History - Erinnelle, Ambriel
Local*
Nature* - Ambriel, Saaz, Agatsu
Nobility
Planes* - Ambriel, Saaz
Religion* - Erinnelle
Looking at it, we still need to review our sheets (list below), or at least I'd suggest we do so :) It's okay to have some overlapping, especially for some assists or to handle those bad rolls.
We probably should think in a way to cover Knowledge (Local). As for disable device, it might bite us in the ass the lack of a rogue, so I'll do something about it. I guess we can probably manage without Linguistics and Sense Motive.
What are your thoughts?
-----------------------------------------------------------
You probably need to create a profile, buddy :)
Skills: 4 (Oracle) + 0 (Intelligence) + 1 (Human/Skilled) = 5
Diplomacy +7
Intimidate +7
Knowledge (history) +4
Knowledge (religion) +4
Perception +4
Maybe you enabled background skills by mistake? We're not using it on this game.
Skills: 2 (Arcanist) + 4 (Intelligence) = 6
Knowledge (Arcana) +8 = INT 4+1+3
Knowledge (Geography) +8 = INT 4+1+3
Knowledge (History) +9 = INT 4+1+3+1 (Trait)
Knowledge (Nature) +8 = INT 4+1+3
Knowledge (Planes) +8 = INT 4+1+3
Perception +3 = WIS 0+1+0+2+ [elf]
Spellcraft† +8 = INT 4+1+3
Use Magic Device† +5 = CHA 1+1+3
Skills: 4 (Class) - 1 (Intelligence) = 3
Climb +6
Craft (alchemy) +3
Perception +6
Survival +6 (+2 when using masterwork survival kit)
I didn't really find a sheet, so followed your posts
Skills: 6 (Inquisitor) + 1 (Intelligence) + 1 (Cunning) = 8
Heal
Know (Dungeon)
Know (Nature)
Know (Planes)
Perception
Stealth
Skills: 6 (Ranger) + 0 (Intelligence) = 6
Acrobatics
Climb
K (Nature)
Perception
Survival
Swim

I can take the Trapper archetype for Ranger - this would mean that I can do the "rogue" traps/disable device routine, but I'd lose my spellcasting. I'm willing to make the sacrifice to help the party, and rearrange my skills and gear accordingly. I will sell my shortbow and arrows to get a standard set of thieves' tools as well.
The History and Nature overlaps are probably unnecessary. If any of you don't really need it on your characters, I'd suggest someone swapping it for one of the skills we still need. Saaz also has a couple more skills to use so I guess she can help on the missing skills as well.
If we could get drawbacks for extra traits, I'd probably try to get a trait to turn acrobatics into a class skills for me.
@Mathpro: Sorry for asking that, my friend (as people already did so on the recruitment), but is it a definite no for drawbacks? Maybe you could review the choice to make sure it's a "real" one?

I meant, create a new alias (on the same account you are) and add a profile to it:
My Account / Account Settings / Create New Alias
Create profile, add image, add details on background - don't pick a faction, the new profile is not for PFS.
You already have a second alias, by the way (the PFS one, Alaize Crimbraze) but you can have multiple. Just add a new one for this game here, with the name you chose, and add the details to the alias profile (you can click mine here in the forums to see how it looks like).
Agatsu Hulla |
All good! Now, go ahead and add your Character Sheet and Background/Questions to the profile. If you add within a spoiler block
[ spoiler ] ... [ / spoiler ]
it can be collapsed and expanded.
You'll get everything about PbP in no time. Happy to help explain.
You might also want to change your race on the profile as it says "Hunan" (unless you're from this province in China)
