Congrats!!! I am looking forward to starting this adventure with you five. It is going to be interesting to see how everything plays out. Having only the first adventure, it seems that how the events within this adventure plays out will change future events in future adventures. I am excited to see this interaction play out.
Take this time to post with your alias and get to know one another. If you would, share your time zones and when you typically are available to post during the day. This way we are all on the same page when it comes to our daily postings.
As a DM I wait for the party to let me know what they are wanting to do and where they are wanting to go when the choice is given, I will never railroad the party. That being said, you are all being hired on as guards for a caravan... So I suppose it technically won't be "railroading."
One last thing, take this time to go over your character sheets. Make sure you have spend your copper/silver/gold on the items your character might believe they need on this journey, there aren't towns along the way to restock.
Good luck, and let's have some fun!!
Mezdav O'mara |
Mezdav slouched as he leaned against the wall outside the gate, waiting for the caravan to form up. The cheap bastard of a caravan master wasn't even paying rations on the trip, just 25 gp for a 20 day guard job, bring your own food and kit...Still, it would get him to Grayhaven, that was something.
He wondered who else had hired on as guards. Would they want to go shares on a keg of beer? Mezdav could only kick in 4 gp, but his mule could do the carrying, the beast was under-loaded.
Mezdav O'mara |
I am on central standard time, and I post at varying hours.
Tactically, Mezdav is an alchemist who fights with a longspear. He's a reach weapon guy with enlarge. He uses thrown bombs and extracts on his turns, and tries to let his enemies eat lots of AoO's.
Yalyaane |
Hi all, I'm on West Coast time and post during my work day, usually.
A striking girl appears with a mule carrying many of her provisions, with a crossbow strapped to her side, her long hair tied into many knots in the back. Her cheekbones are pronounced and look ruddy with sun. The air distorts around her, somewhat queasily, but it doesn't seem to bother her animal friend. She wears the complicated vestments of a shaman of the hill tribes, with many necklaces, small animal skulls and fetishes, and slices of markhor horns adorn her shoulders. She spins a stick with one finger until it falls, watching it suddenly scoot sideways a good dozen feet, laughing at its absurd trajectory.
"Hi, I am Yalyaane," she says to the half-orc, with the clipped accent of one who speaks a different language than the lowlanders of Greenwold. "Are you a guard?"
Seems like we can't create alias pictures right now!
I'm still outfitting Yalyaane.
Adir Silverleaf |
Adir Silverleaf The rather quiet hobbit nods carrying what seems like a walking stick with a sling attached, and a greatsword about his own size, i've been hired as a guard He's wearing a form fitted breastplate with a Black and green gambeson and cloak, as with most halflings he's barefoot.
New England, East coast US. I usually post during the mornings or nights, midday not so much. Tuesdays might be sparse as a i GM a home game that day
Ercio |
A small young human intending very strongly to look like a druid steps forward. He looks like he is hiding some disdain of the environment. He is not carrying much, and one would assume that he thinks of surviving from the wilds.
Hello all! I live in Rio de Janeiro and my posting hours isn't steady, but it's usually more than once per day. My time zone is GMT-3, which means that I'm 2 hours ahead of NYC, if that helps
I don't have much for the voyage, as Ercio thinks he ought to forage and hunt for food.
Mezdav O'mara |
Mezdav pipes up "Who here would be willing to go shares on a 1/2 keg of beer for the trip? My mule can carry it, and it's safer than drinking unknown water."
~ 16 gallons of beer, roughly 160lbs loaded. ??? gp. Mezdav has 4 gp left after his equipment...
"Also, do any of us have a healer's kit - I can't afford one 50 gp! but I am a trained healer"
Pash "The Olive" |
Hello all... give Pash a once over if you will. I know he is 100 GP short of the 240 alotment for creation, I asked a question regarding that in recruitment, but beyond that let me know if anything seems off.

Equipment: 20 days of food would be a good thing to add... and some survival in the wilderness gear (eg. a bedroll, etc). We are going on what's said to be a 20 day march and we are responsible for our own upkeep.

That might not be a terrible idea... plus extra bolts. I have 20, but you can never have too many.
He has a blanket and bedroll already, though a mess kit and perhaps a skillet or pot might not be a bad choice...

Hey guys/gals!
I wanted to check over some mechanical stuff that goes along with this adventure. The journey takes 20 days with planned and random things happening along the way. Would you like me to "SIM" the days nothing happens, or would you like me to do a brief description of the day. This way if any of you would like to do any RP you have the ability to do so.
Part of the whole adventure is taking into consideration the RP between the PCs and NPCs, but it is not vital to the adventure or story.
I wanted to find out so I can provide the game play that you all would enjoy the most.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Personal preference would be to go through them, though perhaps a bit quicker. Otherwise we will always know (at least out of character) that something is about to happen, and that kinda ruins the surprise. Maybe hand-waive a bit if we have several days in a row of nothing happening, just to keep things moving.
My two cents on the matter. Will abide by whichever route you pick though.

o/ <- Include daily routine. Not only does skipping spoil surprises, as Pash expertly commented, but it also allows for character growth and development.

Mezdav O'mara wrote:@Adir still has to say what they would prefer. Talk about a swing vote....I'm with Yalyaane.
That's 2 votes for, and 2 abstentions, motion passes - sim the daily...
That's 2 abstentions, not 2 no's... The yes's outnumber him...

I'm transitioning to work-at-home and found I brought home an analog monitor. Much disappoint. I'll have to make a Fury Road run back to work tomorrow.

Hey all! How is life doing? Me? Oh not to bad. Came home Thursday night and started to put away groceries. Went to take some stuff downstairs to our freezer when I noticed our basement was completely flooded, then the nightmare hit.... I saw the toilet paper and crap floating. The sewer backed up into our basement.... Finally got the proper team out to clean/sanitize/clean/sanitize it this morning and now it is drying out....
Thats all from me. Expect a real post soon enough...

So the Chinese Virus hasn't gotcha... yet! If you have the money, a backup valve is a good home improvement investment...

I think Squirrel Ninja is still bailing out their basement, so it should be ok. Pash and GM, and the rest of you, be well! :)
DM Squirrel Ninja SotG |
Once again I want to apologize for the laps in posting. The basement was a bit more of a blunder than I thought it would be. Dealing with insurance companies can always be interesting to say the least. But we are back at it.
Another note, as we are not really in "normal times" right now, I am going to be more lax in my expectations of postings. If you are able to post daily that is also, if you are not because of life situations due to quarantine that is perfectly fine. Things will eventually return to normal.

Hey all, hope all is going well. Two questions for you all.
1) I wanted to check in and see if anyone would like to take control of the loot sheet? I would love to give access to someone if they would like to have control over it. We haven't really come across anything yet, but when we do it would be one thing less that I would need to control.
I currently have it set with Item I Value I Who Has It I Location Found I Category rows, but you could totally customize it as you see fit.
If you would like to control it let me know and either put your email address on here or PM me your email address. I'll give you access to the Google Doc.
2) I am always open to constructive criticism when it comes to how I am running the game. I want it to be ran in a way that the party finds enjoyable. If you ever have concern, or need something to change so you are having more fun, please feel free to either post it on here or send me a PM. I want to be able to run the game so all are having fun.
Ercio |
For now I can take the loot sheet, I think. I'll PM my e-mail.
As for feedback, I have the feeling that this is a horror adventure. There's much suspense. Whether this is positive or negative, I leave up to you to decide.
Ercio |
Ok, can I randomly add Vorpal blades for everyone? XD
Anyway, this assignment is going to entirely depend on you to give us stuff ;-)
pearl of power
Who said that?
Ercio |
Once my RL friend gave out a +5 Vorpal to the party (I didn't play with them back then, only heard the story) and put 2 high level demons to fight them. Round 1: Charge into the demon, nat 20, decapitate, cleaving finish nat 20 the 2nd demon, combat over. Needless to say he spent quite a while thereafter without GMing in frustration.
Mezdav O'mara |
*Insert Oprah giving away stuff meme*
And you get a Vorpal blade, and you get a Vorpal blade, and YOU get a Vorpal blade. But for real, has anyone ever had a character that acquired a vorpal blade?
AD&D, about 35 years ago. Ah D&D as munchkin teenagers...
Yalyaane |
Ah yes, the days when all sorts of rule bending occurred, until the Paizo Nation attacked.
DM Squirrel Ninja SotG |
2) Could we have a tactical map to work on? It's much easier to figure things out, for example, who's in danger - Is it coming from head on, the left side, the right side, etc...
I typically just use theater of the mind when it comes combats, but that is only because I do not know how to make an interactive grid. Does anyone know how to do this and would like to share the info? Otherwise I am not 100% sure on how to make it where you can move your tokens.
I will post a gameplay post soon.
