I'm overnight at the hospital with my son so next post may be tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks! There's no emergency, but I don't have my books or wifi so it's hard to make GM posts.

After the combat you can peek in the spoiler to see how they and you rolled.

Hi folks, just an FYI that I'll be out of town on a camping trip and unable to post this coming weekend, Sat. 2/8-Sun. 2/9. I will be able to resume posting in the evening on Sunday (US/Pacific time).
Reminder, this starts early tomorrow morning.

You (plural)
Makes me glad Southern dialects still have a second-person plural form in "y'all."

![]() |

There's a decent amount of debate over whether "y'all" is ever singular. Apparently, there are some areas of the US where it might be used that way? Sauce But I've never heard it used that way and I live in the South. Other sources I found note it can be used when addressing an individual with an implied "and your group," which still puts it as a plural and not a singular.
As far as I've ever seen, it's usually used as a second-person plural, with "all y'all" sometimes used to refer to more than 3-4 others.

Ninja'd! But you could throw an aid in as well.
Not sure what would call for an Aid Another here, given that we already rolled on the rituals' deciphering a page ago.

![]() |

Do we have to do the rituals one at a time, or can we perform multiple at the same time?

GM Watery Soup |

Multiple people can go at once. Just be clear on who is doing what.

Somehow I thought we needed rolls to perform them too.

Kiyoko: if at some point I have referred to your character as Kitoro (or if I do it in the future), I apologize. There's a character named Kitoro in one of my other adventures; I caught myself in an edited post calling you Kitoro. I did a quick search and couldn't find any other mistakes, but if I did it once, I'm capable of doing it multiple times.

![]() |

It's okay. I play this character in Final Fantasy 14 also, and I have been called Yoko, Kyoko, Kikyo, and Kagome. The effort to use the correct name is appreciated though. ;)

Uwu's flask bounces off the gelatinous cube and lands
Misdirection: 1d8 ⇒ 1
in Kitoro's square.
*looks for this mysterious "Kitoro"* ;)

![]() |

Haha, yeah. But you get points for calling Kiyo's katana by its name!

GM Watery Soup |

Uwu, not sure if you're still deciding what to do, but you're up in the Gameplay thread.

GM Watery Soup |

That's the first time I've seen Janira go down without it being a crit, actually.
That's kind of surprising given the stats (Janira's AC is terrible). Out of curiosity, I simmed it out.
93% of the time, Janira does not get crit.
- 17% of the time she doesn't get crit, she is conscious.
- 82% of the time she doesn't get crit, she is unconscious.
- 1% of the time she doesn't get crit, she is dead.
7% of the time, Janira gets crit.
- 0% of the time she gets crit, she is conscious.
- 27% of the time she gets crit, she is unconscious.
- 73% of the time she gets crit, she is dead.
So, if she's unconscious or dead, only 8% of time should it be from a crit - 92% of the time she goes down, it's without a crit.
On average she has -2.7 hp (+/-1 SD range 0 to -6 hp) and should be unconscious but rescuable.
[/nerdage]

Is that with Janira Fighting Defensively or taking Total Defense at this point? (Would only skew numbers by ~10% or ~20%, I would assume, but...)
Of course, it is simply possible that I've been "lucky" :P

GM Watery Soup |

That is with neither. Total Defense is out of the question as the scenario explicitly states she fights. I've never considered fighting defensively but it would make sense.

![]() |

I think she got knocked out and survived the only other time I've done this scenario, too.

![]() |

Ah, gotcha. I actually just picked up the PDF this past week (I was going to GM it locally) and couldn't recall whether she was hoping to shut it down quickly (fighting normally), hedging her bets (FD), or just trying to stay alive (TD).
Most people forget about Fight Defensively and Total Defense, but as someone who played a Halfling Megatank, it's always on my mind :D

![]() |

Is there any chance this game would be finished before the start of your Oathbreakers Die game? I'm considering signing up with this character.

![]() |

Was considering doing the same.

GM Watery Soup |

This is the last combat, but the minotaur is dangerous and does need to be taken care of. Once the combat is finished, I'll declare this game finished. Sign up for Oathbreakers - I can't really start that until this weekend at least and you will either be victorious or dead by then. :)

![]() |

Minotaur (-18 hp)
I don't think you counted the 6 damage Stavarg did in your last status update.

GM Watery Soup |

Oops - you are correct. No functional differencr, though - the minotaur still ends up fleeing. But it does make it easier for a parting shot to take it down.

GM Watery Soup |

I have never been more afraid for Bahram!
The minotaur in The Confirmation is a CR 3 monster, which is already brought down from its Bestiary entry (CR 4) by making it wounded and breaking its greataxe (which normally does 3d6+4 as a large weapon). Even so, it's a severe encounter and a fitting capstone for the adventure.
When I played this, Janira didn't go down in Round 1, and we were full of ranged fighters so we did as Stavarg suggested - hanging out on the far bank and pummeling him as he waded across (large creatures walk through the river with a Strength check). Janira's inspire courage gives everyone a +1 to attack and damage, which is really helpful.
The first time I GMed, Janira survived Round 1 as well - but they had the same problems you did (melee characters have to eat an AoO to get in). The minotaur was surrounded but rolled a crit, and I (shh) cheated a little - I made the minotaur step out and 1-hit Con-kill Janira because basically no 1st level character can take a full-damage crit from the minotaur (raging barbarians might not be Con-dead from the hit, but when they drop out of rage they will be).
The minotaur does have a flee condition, though, so really the party needs to get in 3 or so solid hits and it'll take off. But it truly is a deadly scenario, especially for first level characters and new players (who may understandibly not make the most of their character's abilities).
You guys did well, and I hope that the fear of death added to (rather than detracted from) the fun of the scenario.

GM Watery Soup |

I have all your character information from the Recruitment thread, but please make your Day Job rolls in this thread.

![]() |

One of my groups decided to take on the minotaur at full health rather than let Janira run away with it.
Thankfully we had a few folks capable of Enlarge Person, an Elven Branched Spear, and some lucky rolls. We tore him to pieces and only took one hit (which, admittedly, knocked out our Paladin... but that Paladin has been knocked out in 90% of our fights since then, so that's nothing special).
10/10, would never do again!

![]() |

Day job (Craft [calligraphy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Only other time I've played this, the minotaur knocked Janira out after a round or two, and managed to knock out our brawler also. A Tian-Sing swashbuckler with a katana tore him apart with a crit a second later.

GM Watery Soup |

Side note: is it possible to do a Day Job untrained?
Not to my knowledge.

GM Watery Soup |

By default, I'm assuming everyone is Normal and not Slow. Let me know if that assumption made something out of you and me.

Bahram picks a nice spot on a street corner outside of a popular pub, hops up on a crate, and tells the story of The gillman pilgrimage and the great minotaur's fall.
Perform oratory: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
first time playing this scenario and 100% did not expect to see that minotaur again!

![]() |

Perform (Sing): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
William finds a pub somewhere and performs very morbid and depressing songs.

"Babokistauw" for the cave's name. "Because we discovered it together."
I feel like I should get it, but I'm confused. What does it mean?
