Roger that. I don’t like breaking gold...so I’ll just deduct a gold piece and say the change was spent on ‘consumables.’ Like food.
"Dizzy"
I have a new idea.
"Dizzy"
Dizzy doesn't have knowledge (nature).
Artofregicide
Do we know the Primn sisters? That might slightly tweak the comment, though the gist would be the same.
So between you I have little doubt you know that the Primn family are a well respected name in town, and the sisters probably refer to the two youngest girls, Rugentra and Cylcine. Both are about Ruby's age. The Primn family are humans but claim some elven ancestry.

Sorry, I thought that was obvious based on your earlier comments about the spell being visible.
Sorry if I was unclear before. So when you cast a spell (without an ability or feat that would obscure it) there's some kind of manifestation beyond the effects of the spell itself, so that casters can identify it with spellcraft.
Neither Ruby or Halgra have spellcraft, so all they knew was you were casting a spell, not what spell or what the effects were. Hope that clarifies.
Spell components are only visible while being cast, not while being concentrated on.
Actually, I'm not talking about spell components, though you are correct. Even a spell without visible components (psychic spells, silent and still spells + eschew materials) have clear manifestations that allow spellcraft rolls and even allow an untrained onlooker to know that something magic happened.
While concentrating on a spell, save for any obvious effects created by the spell itself, these tells don't exist. Based on the effects or detect magic and knowledge arcana you can try to identify an active spell.
Ruby and Halgra have neither detect magic or knowledge arcana, but Ruby could still piece together her thoughts were being read based on Vashta's comments.

That's what I was saying too, but I was just trying to clear it up =)

Great choice on profile pic for Argea. It really has a divine resurrection feel to it

I'm putting my foot down. I won't let yet another of my campaigns become a dating sim! :P

God, I love that image.
And yeah, none of this was planned.

Silly GM, this isn't a dating sim, it's a SMASHING sim! =D

Somehow you made it sound even worse

I have never been known to make things better. Ask my ex-wife.

Just kidding. That's why I put it here, instead of in Gameplay.

I was of course being overdramatic for comedic effect. You are welcome to do whatever you want as players, within reason and the site rules.
That said, I significant portion of the games I run do end up with character romance, usually between PCs and NPCs.

I literally have a player like that. Like, tries to make a monster harem every single time.

My condolences to your sanity, which by now must be dead.
Fulk the Red
I played with someone once who was constantly trying to seduce enemies. We’re invading the tower of a wizard who had tried to rob us us previously, and she’s thinking she can romance him. Oy vey.
Argea Godhand
1 person marked this as a favorite.
One of my PCs tried to romance an Otyugh once out of sheer curiosity but that's about as far as I've gone.
"Dizzy"
I tend to be more of a "seduce off screen" type of player, mainly cause I learned the hard way when someone at the table asked me in character if I wanted to sleep with their character. They were a little....invested in the answer, and clearly disappointed when I said no.
Vashta Denaria
I'd like for us players to figure out a bit more what we want to do in terms of the ambush. Sounds like we're figuring out flight. Any other steps/ideas we have? We presumably have some town resources available. Any ideas like trying to get a big net or anything else that might be of us?
Fulk the Red
Not sure Trunau is likely to have a big net like that, or the ability to produce one (it isn’t a fishing village, after all). Can anyone cast Web?
Ulmo Nargrymkin
So, I think that what we do is make ourselves into a juicy target. So the giants come in at us via air. Then we take to the sky/telekinesis them off their mounts. Then, when battle is joined and we have them occupied, our Draconic ally comes in from above to flank them. Their eyes should be firmly glued on us, so the dragon can take them by surprise.
Fulk the Red
The reverse is probably easier. They’re here for the dragon. They’re going to be looking for her. They aren’t expecting her to have allies. (I hope)

For the sake of my own curiosity, which use of telekinesis are you planning on using to accomplish this, and on which creature (giant or roc)?
The reverse is probably easier. They’re here for the dragon. They’re going to be looking for her. They aren’t expecting her to have allies. (I hope)
Red dragons are notoriously arrogant and cantankerous, but are especially unlikely to ally with adventurers. You have no reason to believe the hunters would expect you unless they have powerful divination or similiar.
"Dizzy"
So we should plan to hit their mounts first, not them. If we can kill their Rocs, they will A) fall, and B) have to fight on our terms.
Ulmo Nargrymkin
Figured I could try this:
“Combat Maneuver: Alternatively, once per round, you can use telekinesis to perform a bull rush, disarm, grapple (including pin), or trip.”
A Giant would get +2 CMD for size, I think. With a lucky roll maybe I could knock it off it’s mount. I’d imagine that going at high speed one way, and then suddenly (and unexpectedly) being pushed the other might well cause one to fall to the ground. Take some falling damage and then get stabbed.
"Dizzy"
Force punch is pretty handy for that.
Argea Godhand
Turns out Argea can fly via Angelic Aspect, but it's only 30 ft. I'll chalk that oversight up to...uh, reincarnation memory fuzziness.
Vashta Denaria
So I think definitely dealing with the rocs first sounds like a plan. It sounds like unless Dizzy can get that scroll, we may be mostly ground-based.
That said, I think we probably need to meet with Naximarra to see what her magical capabilities are. If she has greater invisibility (or stoneskin or other spells) -- like many older red dragons do -- she could change our tactics.
So, now I think let's see about Dizzy's scroll, then plan to head for the tunnels to root out spies before meeting with the dragon and finalizing our ambush plans.
Artofregicide
So what's the plan? You've got the scroll, so Dizzy can try to copy it to her spellbook.
You believe that Naximarra is unlikely to share any spells she has without persuasion. No one has rolled Knowledge (arcana) to identify her as far as I am aware.
In regards to the spies, your best lead is the Sczarni who have moved into the Old Cistern building. You could also use diplomacy to gather information or Knowledge (local).
I'm waiting 100% on the team to pick a direction. I don't want to put this off too long in case players start to lose interest due to indecision.
Ulmo Nargrymkin
Sorry for my silence. Week long national guard duty starting tomorrow and dealing with getting family ready. With 3 kids out of school, not easy. Posts that are combat are easy, ones with though and analysis are falling to the side. Will get involved again soon
Fulk the Red
I’m going to be a bit hindered in the cisterns since there won’t be room to be mounted, but I’m good with going down there if everyone else is.
Artofregicide
Apologies for the delay without warning. There is a real (but very tiny) chance that my household has been exposed to COVID-19, so I've been preoccupied to say the least.
I did move things forward, but I don't see you going in stealth-wise or anything when you're dealing with CR1 and CR2 thugs.
Ulmo Nargrymkin
That’s...pretty scary. Wish all the best for you all
Artofregicide
I'll Take 10 on Intimidate to Aid Ulmo. That's a 25.
Fulk stands silently, menacingly, behind Ulmo, his lance gripped in both hands.
So you can't take 10 to aid another on a skill check, by RAW.
On the other hand, you can't roll under a 10 with a +15, so it works out the same.
Just wanted to let you know in the (admittedly very unlikely) case this comes up.
Fulk the Red
My bad.
"Dizzy"
It's okay man. Take care of your wife.
