| Sazen |
Sazen completes her Coup de Grace action.
Coup de Grace: As a full-round action, you can use a melee weapon to deliver a coup de grace (pronounced “coo day grahs”) to a helpless opponent. You can also use a bow or crossbow, provided you are adjacent to the target.
You automatically hit and score a critical hit. If the defender survives the damage, he must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + damage dealt) or die. A rogue also gets her extra sneak attack damage against a helpless opponent when delivering a coup de grace.
Piercing Damage (crit): 2d8 + 1d10 ⇒ (8, 7) + (9) = 24
If he is still alive after that he has to make a DC 34 fortitude save or die.
| GM Kevin O'Rourke |
Sazen finishes off the sleeping orc.
Sool can tell the orcs were just experimenting rather than trying to create anything in particular. There are notations on different sunbstances in different quantities. It's more of an academic undertaking than actual production suprisingly.
Morson observes no traps. The area to the east is unlit but his dwarven eyes can see crates, he hears no movement in the area ahead.
Sool
|
Sool glances down at the slain orcs a trifle sadly just as Sazen finishes off the sleeping one with a single plunge of dagger.
"They were just dabbling. Trial and error, mixing things together to see what happened. I wonder if they'd dare to do that if their master were actually here." he muses. The looks at them in silence a bit longer, then seems to mentally dismiss them. "Well, they made their bed."
He wanders over to where Morsun is peering into the dark room.
"Shall we investigate what's in these crates?" he suggests.
| Morsun Morsun |
"If you feel like we should, but let's have Throkk and maybe someone else stand watch out here. If anyone else," and here Morsun points to the two passages leading west, "heard us take out those two," he indicates the two dispatched orcs in the room they're in, "we don't want them sneaking past us."
Sool
|
Sool nods and makes his way into the dark room.
He holds his hands out before himself and pushes them slowly together, humming intently. He seems to be pushing against some sort of resistance. Eventually a little flicker of liquid orange springs up between his hands, swirling and glowing slightly in mid-air. He pulls out a dagger and touches it to the orange phantom and the blade of the dagger bursts into bright white light.
Casting Light
Sool then moves forward to investigate the contents of the crates.
| GM Kevin O'Rourke |
Most of the barrels and crates are quite old, but the gear and equipment in the laboratory is of the same style and make and looks as if it may have once been stored here.
The equipment here is old but quite valuable to the right buyer. If you returned with a wagon, you could load it all up and sell it for one hundred gold pieces but would have to travel to a large city to find such a wealthy buyer.

"Our Blighter has significant wealth to back up his malice." observes Sool as he goes from crate to crate. He opens one seemingly at random and pulls out a piece of glassware.
"See this? This alembic retort is reinforced with mithril tracings to strengthen the glass and help it hold its shape when heated. That's a fairly rare and exotic piece of equipment to find in a cave, and there's a half dozen in this box alone. And one only needs it for rather esoteric experiments -- most flames don't burn anywhere near hot enough to require such gear."
"Come, let's keep searching." he suggests to Morsun.
| Morsun Morsun |
Morsun turns from Sool as he leaves the room and mouths "Let's keep searching!" with a sneer, but he moves to do just that. He inspects the southern passage on the western wall, hoping to rule it out as another storage area before moving into the larger passage north of it.

The door from the laboratory into this area is secured with a simple wooden bar on the laboratory side. Morson hears no noises from the other side and a thin layer of dust shows the bar has been in pace for some time.
The cavern beyond is strewn with refuse such as bones and broken equipment. Morson spots that there is also a secret door leading from this area to the north.
Scattered among the bones are a few trinkets, including a low-grade cold iron dagger, a wolf fang talisman, and 8 gp in miscellaneous coins.
| Sazen |
Sazen casts detect magic to see if any of the items are magical. She cleans the wolf fang talisman and puts it around her neck, liking the look of it.
... that's just her initial reaction, but if it is magical, we can discuss ownership instead.

Sazen discovers that the talisman is magical, and explains the nature of the enchantment to the group in case someone else wants it for more than decoration.

The hidden door exits the laboratory ends in a set of stairs that leads up to a massive double door to the west. To the east must lie the main chamber. Made from stout wood and bound with iron, the pair of doors is crudely decorated with a carving of a small rural village that has been set ablaze. Anyone examining the carving can tell it must have been made many years ago and, despite its poor overall artistry, the village bears an unmistakable resemblance to Etran’s Folly.
An orc male with shoulder length brown hair stands at an alchemy table here. It seems your speed at dealing with the group in the main chamber has left him unaware to his dangerous predicament. His equipment is of better make and he has this area to himself, he's likely higher up the chain of command in whatever hierarchy they have.

Caught off guard rather than face you the orcish alchemist begins to flee deeper into the underground area. Knocking over alchemical supplies and equipment he moves towards the western door and opens it.
Move, Move, Open Door
From the moment the door to this area is opened, whimpering moans can be heard from the center of the chamber, where a human man is strapped to a large rack. His flesh is missing in places, replaced with large glass and metal cauldrons that seem to be extracting blood from him, mixing that blood with reagents to transform it, then pumping the blood back into the poor man.
