Sir Adrian Fullbright |
Well, thank you, good sir. We will accompany you. Come, then, those of you who wish to address the problems on this board and help the locals. Yes, that includes you, with the prodigious moustache and penchant for a snort or two.
Sir Adrian stands and extends his hand in an invitation for the dwarf to lead the way to the Townmaster.
Scramsax |
During the walk, Scram gave the dwarf a wide lead. He knew the old grumble-gravel was more a tavern brawler than one to seriously keep a grudge...the fact that Scram had burglarized him a few weeks ago had also crossed his mind. Like all his other scores, the gems were quickly fenced for liquid cash...which tended to become liquid drink.
Something, perhaps a thief's instinct, told the halfling he couldn't keep it up forever. Just one big score was all he really needed, after all. No sense taking risk after risk...
The job board was as good a place as any to prospect heists. If there was nothing to lift at least he'd still get some coin for an honest job. He knocked the door eagerly "*knock knock knock* Townmaster... *knock knock knock knock* ...adventurers here for hire, are you about? *knock knock*"
Loraas |
Loraas kept up with a long step uncommon for his age. The druid was used to walking and observing those around him. The pelts still weighed him down some and he was eager to be rid of them. he would have to find some time to give the cash to the trappers but that could wait.
He waited patiently outside hoping the townmaster was available so they could get going.
Brother Gaelin |
Somewhat awkwardly stepping up toward the door, the young priest opens his mouth. "Townmaster Wester, it is Brother Gaelin, we met a few days ago. You may recall I offered to assist with any troubles the town faced, well, there were several more like-minded travelers at the tavern, and we thought we'd come speak to you more formally about what we can do to aid the people of Phandalin."
Scramsax |
Scramsax laughed at the master's fear, putting on his best dragon voice "Me not care, me hungry! Give me all your gold and I'll fly away forever..." at the looks from the others he added "...heh, just kidding."
Loraas |
Loraas chuckled, Good humor is always welcome.
He added, "Yes, Townmaster. We are here to offer our services to see if we can alleviate some of the town's issues. is it you that we need to talk about that?"
He waited a second and then added, "Can you tell us what task you need done first?"
Loraas |
"Whatever needs to be done is on the board, you all need to grab whatever post you wish to do, Go do it come back with the post and i will reward you" He says not opening the door.
Loraas shrugged, "Well, that was quick but not at all what I expected."
He looked at his new companions, "At least we know how to go about doing these tasks."
He reached out to the board and found the paper about the local acolyte; he read it out loud, "Umbridge Hill The Local Midwife an acolyte of Chauntea, one Abadra Gwynn,Lives by herself on Umbridge Hill, a few miles south of Phandelin, with the threat looming in the area, Townmaster Harbin Wester seeks adventurers to persuade Abadra to return to the general safety of Phandelin. 25 gp reward."
He looked about, "Well, shall we get going?"
---------------
GM, do we know where this Umbridge Hill is (other than 'a few miles south of Phandalin'? Or is that all we need to find the place? What time is it? I had thought it was evening/night but apparently not. Can you post the link to the Phandalin map for easy reference?
Scramsax |
He shrugs "I've not the coin for horses but it ain't far...I know the mill. No clue how to convince her though...Chauntea's the harvest mother, eh? Maybe we should bring some fruits or grains to butter her up..."
Ðusk |
Dusk nods approvingly as Loraas selects the Midwife’s job paper. She turns to Scramsax
I would expect the good lady should be appealed to rather than bribed, perhaps we should suggest that she would be better able to tend to her patients from the comforts of the main town for a while?
She glances around at the assembled group.
Is everyone ready if we leave now or should we meet back here in ten minutes?
Loraas |
I am certainly ready now. I am confident I can convince the woman. Let us leave, on foot.
Loraas looked at his pelts. Well, technically not his pelts, but he was responsible for them anyway.
"I just need to drop these off in a safe place on our way out."
He added, "I understand that the person interested in the pelts is on our way anyway so I'll only delay us a minute or two."
He checked his shortbow and quiver and made sure his skinning knife was on his side. He shouldered the pelts, "I'm ready."
Ðusk |
I am heartened by your confidence Sir Fullbright!
She stretches and checks her gear, then laughs out loud.
I've just realised I'm carrying everything I own, I only arrived her a couple of hours ago and have yet to even book lodgings!
She smiles.
That can be attended to later methinks, in the meantime we have a lady to talk to
She leans against a nearby wall, lost in thought.
Critzible |
Those who are locals or been here a while know exactly where the Hill is, it is Two miles directly south as there are a few windmills and that is where Adabra Gwynn resides.
No issues on the trek as its only an hours distance!
However when you arrive you see this
Built on the slope of Umbridge Hill is an old stone windmill surrounded by an iornfence. A large monster with a spiky tail is trying to knock down the front gate. From the window above a woman calls out. "A Little Help"
What do you do?
Loraas |
Loraas' eyes went wide at the sight of the monster. he quickly moved up to the iron fence and crouched behind it. hopefully get half or three quarters cover
He whispered, "Looks like we got here just in time."
From his position, he popped up with his shortbow in hand and released an arrow.
shortbow to hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
assuming a hit
The arrow sunk into the beast and the druid dropped right back down behind the fence. "Anyone else can hit it without getting close?"
Sir Adrian Fullbright |
Round 1, How far are we from the creature?
Sir Adrian yells up at the woman,
We come to your aid fine lady!
As he moves up to within 20 feet, he throws a hand axe at the monster.
HAxe Att: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
HAxe Dam: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Not really my style, Loraas, but worth a try.
Scramsax |
Scram fumbles out his little bird hunting bow and waits patiently for an opportunity to present itself. He licks the back of his thumb and holds it up into the wind...
Ready action. Fire bow on condition that a party member is adjacent (to get sneak).
Short Bow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Dmg+Snk: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 2) + 3 = 9
Ðusk |
Mouth agape and eyes wide in surprise at what they’ve found at the windmill, Dusk leaps forward. Unstinting her shield and drawing her sword as she goes, she ensures she keeps herself between the monster and the rest of the party.
Hey monster! she shouts
Get away from that door!
No attack as drawing weapon/shield and moving to close the distance
Brother Gaelin |
Brother Gaelin accompanies the band now clad in a chain hauberk beneath his robes. A stout shield and a shortbow hang from his pack, and a hefty walking stick occupies his hands. When they spot the mighty beast banging on the gate, Gaelin steps forward hoping to perhaps speak with it, but is caught off guard as his companions launch arrows and spells at it.
Having few other options, Gaelin draws his now and fires as well.
shortbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Loraas |
Loraas shook his head, "No food here. Go make your kin proud and seek more challenging prey!"
He then showed half his torso from behind the fence and let fly another arrow, which once more sank into the beast's hide.
shortbow to hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
The druid added, "Go now before you bring further shame on yourself with defeat!"
intimidation: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Sir Adrian Fullbright |
Round 2
Sir Adrian moves in as he draws his Greatsword and swings down on an overhand chop at the beast.
Feed on this!
GS Att: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
GS Dam: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1) + 3 = 5
Jeeeeez...that is alot of 1s!
Brother Gaelin |
Still rather uncertain on his feat as the beast turns toward them, "So, umm, we are really fighting this thing?!"
@Initiative 18
He draws his bow again and looses another arrow toward the creature.
short bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Scramsax |
I think the init order was:
Lucen 19, Galin 18, Scram/Lorass 15, Adrian 12, Manticore 5, Dusk 4
I believe it is the Manticore's go in the first round still
Scramsax |
Okay, that means I'm up then.
With Dusk engaged with the odd creature, Scram stuck himself fully inside a nearby shrubbery on the fenceline, ejecting an arrow from within at an opportune moment...
Shortbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Dmg+Snk: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 3) + 3 = 9
Ðusk |
You’ve had the opportunity to surrender
Her face a mask of concentration, Dusk moves forward and swings her blade at the creature.
Longsword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
slashing: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8
Loraas |
Taking advantage of the monster's hesitation, the druid continued with his arrows. "Go! Now!"
He smiled and ducked right back under the fence as another arrow penetrated the monster's hide.
shortbow to hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
