Lost and AloneBackground
Source The Fall of Plaguestone pg. 55
You were training to become a knight in Lastwall when the Whispering Tyrant escaped his imprisonment and destroyed the nation. It was only by dumb luck that you are alive at all, but the memories of that fateful day haunt your dreams. When play begins, you have boarded a caravan heading toward a new town, having worn out your welcome at the taverns and inns of Elidir.
Choose two ability boosts. One must be to Strength or Charisma, and one is a free ability boost.
You're trained in the Intimidation skill and the Warfare Lore skill. You gain the Intimidating Glare skill feat
Intimidating Glare Feat 1
GeneralSkill
Source Core Rulebook pg. 262
Prerequisites trained in Intimidation
You can Demoralize with a mere glare. When you do, Demoralize loses the auditory trait and gains the visual trait, and you don’t take a penalty if the creature doesn’t understand your language
RAGE [one-action]
BARBARIAN CONCENTRATE EMOTION MENTAL
Requirements You aren't fatigued or raging. You tap into your inner fury and begin raging. You gain a number of temporary Hit Points equal to your level plus your Constitution modifier. This frenzy lasts for 1 minute, until there are no enemies you can perceive, or until you fall unconscious, whichever comes first. You can't voluntarily stop raging. While you are raging:
• You deal 2 additional damage with melee weapons and unarmed attacks. This additional damage is halved if your weapon or unarmed attack is agile. • You take a –1 penalty to AC. • You can't use actions with the concentrate trait unless they also have the rage trait. You can Seek while raging. After you stop raging, you lose any remaining temporary Hit Points from Rage, and you can't Rage again for 1 minute
Anathema Disrespecting corpses or spirits is anathema to your instinct; defending yourself against undead creatures is not.
Spirit Rage (Instinct Ability) When you are raging, you can increase your damage from Rage from 2 to 3 and deal negative or positive damage, instead of the normal damage type for your weapon or unarmed attack (choose each time you Rage). If you choose to deal negative or positive damage, your weapon or unarmed attack gains the effects of the ghost touch property rune, which makes it more effective against incorporeal creatures, and your Rage action gains the divine and necromancy traits, plus negative or positive, as appropriate.
SUDDEN CHARGE t[two-actions] FEAT 1
BARBARIAN FLOURISH OPEN
With a quick sprint, you dash up to your foe and swing. Stride twice. If you end your movement within melee reach of at least one enemy, you can make a melee Strike against that enemy. You can use Sudden Charge while Burrowing, Climbing, Flying, or Swimming instead of Striding if you have the corresponding movement type.

Looking forward to the game! Now I need to figure out the differences between the playtest and the final rules, and update accordingly.

@GM SpiderBeard: With your permission, I'd like to change my background to Criminal, which fits my concept better. I'll still be travelling to stay with a relative in Almas.
GM SpiderBeard |
Hey kids!
You all have permission to change anything you want, just check if you're going to change something major like class and I'd prefer you not all have the same background.
Feel free to talk rules here as you sort out your character sheets. I have an eye to beginning next Monday but will depend on where everyone is. I will also open the gameplay thread for free RP on the caravan once everyone has checked in.
Pollo Pitius |
Hello all! Thank you for selecting me! Congrats to everyone else as well, this looks like it is going to be a fun group of characters.
This will be my first experience creating a 2E character, though I have been gaming for many years. I'll work through the character creation and if I have questions I will make sure to post them here if I can't find an answer.
Happy to begin some prologue rp as well!
Osveta Daud |
Following the ABCs i ended up with
Strength 18
Constitution 16
Dexterity 12
Intelligence 10
Wisdom 12
Charisma 10
That look okay or do you think i should take the human free one from Strength and put it elsewhere?

That checks out to me.
Some useful resources beyond the core book:

All right, I think my profile now contains everything important. Not sure how much detail you're looking for, so I erred on the side of caution and went for a minimalist approach. :)
GM SpiderBeard |
Okay everyone has tagged the post so I'll open the gameplay thread tomorrow for free RP. During the free RP time nothing of material consequence will happen, although events of storyline could happen if you decide to seduce Bort or whatever.
Here's what I'm looking for from your characters crunch-wise:
- A completed statblock formatted in whatever way you find easy to read.
- A copy of your background within your character profile so I can find it easily.
- Within the statblock a list of special actions and particularly reactions your character can take.
A tagline for your character formatted in this style. It makes things consistent and easy for me to read.
You can see what it looks like in action on this post from Hugo.
Milo Townsend |
One thing I can share from my experience in the playtest: AC is more important than in PF1e, since it affects how easy it is for enemies to score critical hits on you (if they beat your AC by 10, it's a crit).
Pollo Pitius |
Random thing that I love mentioning because I'm a closet name-dropper...
The original "inventor" of that tagline format was my primary PbP GM when I first really got into PbP several years ago. I see now it's been adopted and slightly modified a few different ways since it's original inception. Just a fun little nugget that has grown on these boards that I think is pretty cool that I was a part of from the beginning.
That's all for today in "Posts that don't actually help with anything"
I'm working on creating my character currently. It's definitely a new experience! I'll have something today or tomorrow for you to review. Really looking forward to this! I've been mulling over this character concept for a while, so it will be fun to see how he comes out in this adventure.
GM SpiderBeard |
Oh awesome! I picked it up from GM Giuseppe. And checking back his source was GM Damo who I think you're referring to. I'll make sure to cite both because why not. Realizing how the character profile info formats out into a tagline was genius.
Pollo Pitius |
Yes, it was indeed GM Damo :) We are personal friends IRL thanks to Paizo's PbP boards. We met when he was recruiting for PFS games (after getting tired of playing in subpar games, he decided to start running his own). Our group stayed steady through quite a few scenarios for over a year and decided to meet up at Gen Con 2015. The rest is history. We still game together on a regular basis using Google Hangouts (well... me much less because I don't have as much time for live gaming) and he has since moved back to his home country of Australia.
So that is part of why tabletop gaming and PbP is so incredibly awesome. Most times you meet cool people that come and go with the games, but once in a while you make lifetime friends.
And for what it's worth, GM Damo created that tag line for exactly the reason why you request your players use it - it made it so much easier for him to get relevant information at a glance on all his players in a format that was consistent for each one. It's so nice to know that you can look in the same spot for everyone for a specific thing. I just love that his contribution lives on.
Pollo Pitius |
Ok. So I copied Milo's profile format, then just replaced his stats with mine. I used Herolab online to make the character, so hopefully it turned out right. My head is spinning a little bit trying to get a grip on the changes for 2E, but I promise I'll do my homework this weekend so I'm not going in totally blind when we get started.
Milo Townsend |
So are we using Hero Points? I see the're listed in the recommended tagline.
I'm in the process of editing my stats by hand, so please let me know if something looks off.
Pollo Pitius |
So couple things about Pollo. He is Chelaxian, and his family has owned slaves as long as he has lived. In fact, as an aspiring Dominus, he fully intends to own slaves himself one day to fight in the ring for him.
One thing about Papasteve - derogatory names for other races make me really uncomfortable. I know it's in the lore to call halflings 'slips', and it would likely be second nature to Pollo, who wouldn't even realize its not cool. I just can't bring myself to type it out.
Back to Pollo - The way I envisioned this character is to be a very "hands-on" kind of Dominus. A guy who gets in the training ring with his slaves, can take more than a few punches and kinda likes it when he does get hit. He has an uneasy, but generally more good than bad kind of relationship with pain. In regards to his viewpoint on slavery - I think the best parallel here would be a horse owner, or a kennel owner for a dog track. He cares deeply about those who work for him, even if they aren't free to choose their vocation. He knows logically that the better he provides for them, the better fighters they will be for him.
Ok, I'm rambling - but the point of it all is, (if I do it right) Pollo will be occasionally insensitive, but out of ignorance, not spite or cruelty. Feel free to correct him. If I as a player step over a line that makes the other players uncomfortable, PLEASE don't hesitate to correct me. :)
Now let's see if I can pull this off... ha! :)
GM SpiderBeard |
Yep, I am running this game as close to 'as intended' as possible and hero points are considered a core rule, so they're in.
Milo Townsend |
Milo has the Battle Medicine skill feat, so he can do some healing. With the increase in the skill proficiency bonuses from the playtest, he's not likely to crit fail and make things worse. :)

Been at work, getting caught up now.
Not gonna lie, totally thought Gigon was gonna toss the knife out.
Same! I was getting ready to post how i pulled out the second dagger... ha!
Pollo Pitius |
Just wanted to say I love Milo's post about how he was planning to answer but didn't when Pollo just kept rambling. My intention was to try not to exclude any of the characters, but the end result was pretty much what Milo interpreted... It was unintentional, but it fits. I dig it. :)
GM SpiderBeard |
Already enjoying the hell out of this group. Good mix of personalities. :)
I'll start going through everyone's stat blocks later on today to make sure everything is tickety-boo.
GM SpiderBeard |
I've attached a google slides document to the campaign short description (at the top of the page). This will serve as the primary battlemap where you'll be expected to move your own tokens. If connecting on mobile just indicate where your token needs to be moved and I'll move for you. I'll also be pasting game art into the slides doc.
GM SpiderBeard |
Checking stat blocks!
@Pollo - Looks good.
@Gigon - Good to go.
@Osveta - Under construction, I'll get back to you come Sunday.
@Milo - Deelightful.
@Anghariel - Took me a bit to parse out where you got all your skills, but I got there. Your sheet looks great. Only thing I'd ask is for you to clearly indicate what spells you have memorized.
I will begin the game proper at its latest on Monday, although may start earlier if Osveta finishes before then.
Anghariel |

While putting the character together I ended up creating a little table breaking down my skills and where I'm getting them from because, yeah, there's just so many of the damn things. :)
I'll add a list of memorised spells as soon as this IC post is done!

"Pie, for someone who likes to talk and ask questions about others you haven't said why you're here with us." She asks as he roots around. I could really go for a pizza now. Or a meat pie.
I just got this. Now I'm laughing out loud and I think I woke my wife up. Well done. :) *slow clap*

Thanks Rysky! You're good.
All the character sheets are good to go. I'll get the game going seriously tomorrow night or Sunday. Once game is open, first post is required by Monday evening (MST).
Anghariel |
GM SpiderBeard: would it be OK for me to declare that I've already cast Mage Armour today? It lasts until the next time I prepare spells, so barring unusual circumstances I can't think of a reason not to cast it as soon as I've memorised it.
Milo Townsend |
Added a note to my sheet: Unless otherwise specified, Milo will use his Nimble Dodge reaction on the first attack against him each round (+2 AC vs the triggering attack).
Pollo Pitius |
"Just a quick stop on the way through. I doubt we will be here long." Pollo yawns and stretches.
Someone had to say it right? Pretty sure this makes me the first person killed if it is a horror movie, right?
GM SpiderBeard |
Okay, we are now in our first combat. Most of you are veterans to PbP but some aren't. Here's how it goes:
I roll initiative to save time (I also roll player saves a lot of the time and will handle reaction rolls at times). Perception is default but if you are engaging in a specific exploration mode activity I'll use the appropriate skill instead.
Initiative in PbP is condensed into blocks. If there are multiple PCs with consecutive initiatives, their initiative is all considered the same number. You will then act in the order you post.
So if initiative is:
Anghariel
Gigon
--
Bad Guys
---
Osveta
Milo
Pollo
Combat starts and if Gigon posts before Anghariel, Gigon will act before Anghariel. No other players may act (they can do stuff like speak and react just not use actions). Then the bad guys go.
Then the entire group can act because the combat rounds roll over. This could mean Gigon could post and act twice before Pollo goes once, but such is life.
A note on my style:
- PbP can lose days of time waiting for someone to post. Because of that, I like to push along wherever possible.
- I will run your character if you miss a day or two.
- I roll player saves unless the save has dire consequences.
- I may roll reactions depending on the context.
How to use google slides:
The link at the top opens a slides document. Slide two is the battle map. When you act, either move your token or tell me (or another player) where to move it. Unexplored terrain will be under spoiler blocks. This is a trust-based system so I expect we'll all reward that trust. :D
