Amphitryon |
Totem spear, 1d10x3, P or S. So sadly no crit threat. But thanks for watching out for it
DM Amazing Red |
Varocles lands a hit on his target as Kyronai casts a spell.
Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Blue growls at the new combatant. Teledoros appears from invisibility and scores a hit on the surprised hound. Amphitryon also lands a solid hit on his target.

Μέχρι να ρέει το μισητό αίμα
Σε ένα ποτάμι που περνάει από τα πόδια μας!"
"Sons of Greeks! let us go
In arms against the foe,
Till their hated blood shall flow
In a river past our feet!"
Grinning he then attempts to wrestle the creature!

Kyronai |
Ha ha, I was thinking the illusion would give Poly a chance to stand up by moving behind the illusion to avoid an AoO, or maybe the illusion could draw away an attack for a round. Grappling with the trollhound from a prone position is much cooler, though.
DM Amazing Red |
Despite his disadvantageous position, Polyoinos grabs a hold of the creature in a headlock. Red continues to try to bite Varocles.
Red vs Varcocles: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
1d10 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Blue attempts to break free from the hold.

Teledoros |
Teledoros launches a few more arrows at the blue hound
Arrow 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 211d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Arrow 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 171d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
"Tear his jaws off, Polyoinos!"
Kyronai |
Kyronai lets the illusion dissipate as he sends an arrow through it and into the trollhound.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 1 = 24
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 1 = 17

Amphitryon |

Damage: 1d10 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Amphitryon waited until his comrades had made their moves so he could find an opening. Once they had acted, he stabbed out at...whichever hound was still standing.

DM Amazing Red |
Teledoros drops his target with a pair of arrows. Kyronai finishes off the other hound who also drops to the ground. As soon as they fall, the group can hear heavy footsteps coming from where the trollhounds emerged. Amphitryon and Polyoinos can change their actions. Varocles is up.
Red - 34, Blue - 31, Poly - Prone 24, Teledoros - 9, Varocles - 7 Prone
Varocles Seaworthy |
Varocles instructs "Quick, heal yourselves, and get to the door, so we only fight one at a time, but we need to finish these two."
Varocles rises, casts sun metal on Amphitryon's blade, and takes a 5' step towards the threat. "Finish them with your blade!"
1d4 fire damage on your weapon for the next 3 rounds.
Amphitryon |
Amphitryon quickly pulled out a goal of Greek fire and applied them to the bodies, to ensure that they would not rise again.
Varocles Seaworthy |
Just applying fire won't kill them, right? It will just apply some damage, and forestall regeneration for a round, but the next round, they can start regenerating again if they aren't dead. So we need to get them to -CON and hit them with fire.
Teledoros |
Teledoros moves up to Polyoinos to help him out too.
cure light wounds: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
"Best patch you up a bit more for the next round."
DM Amazing Red |
Yep. They still need to be -Con to die. Good thing that Greek fire burns for an extra round.
Varocles applies a spell to Amphitryon's blade as the half-elf burns Red with greek fire.
1d6 ⇒ 5
Red - 39, Blue - 31, Poly - Prone 24, Teledoros - 9, Varocles - 7 Prone
We're still in rounds so I'll save Teledoros' and Kyronai's actions for next round. Just waiting on Polyoinos.
Polyoinos |
@DM AR: Poly's damage went from 11 in round 2 to 24 in round 3. Not seeing where the additional 13 is coming from? Toxic bite?? Just checking its correct as it'll put me at 1HP (+11 healing that has been gratefully administered :)
Round 4 Action Redux: Raging Song as above + Move Action - Stand
Batter, bruised and bitten Polyoinos picks himself up as he continues to buoy his comrades.
He moves to where his long spear lies, picking it up with a weary grin;
"The hounds have been dealt with, here come the masters!"
DM Amazing Red |
I was going by your statline which I misread. I will fix it in the future. You should be at full once Kyronai and Teledoros' actions come into effect.
Almost as if it was summoned by Polyoinos, a troll emerges from where the trapdoor used to be, brandishing a greatsword. He growls in an unknown language moving forward to attack Amphitryon who is standing next to a pet on fire.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Confirming Critical Threat: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 1) + 7 = 11
Blue seems to open it's eyes conscious again.
Both Teledoros and Kyronai heal Polyoinos back to full strength.
1d6 ⇒ 2
Red - 41, Blue - 28, Amphitryon - 11, Teledoros - 9, Varocles - 7
Amphitryon, Varocles, and Polyoinos are up.
Polyoinos |
@DM AR: Shoot you're right - apologies was at 14 HP coming into this scrap. Was indeed at 1HP! Now up to a (relative safe 12 +4 temp HP lol) My bad chief.
EDIT: Ignore above and read comments in posts below :)
Round 5 - Raging Song 5/10: 28/28 HP; 16 AC
Now on his feet and armed Polyoinos once again stirs their warrior blood with the chorus to his song;
[ooc]Free Action - maintain Raging Song - Inspired Rage: +2 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution and a +1 morale bonus on Will saving throws, but also take a –1 penalty to AC.)

Σε ένα ποτάμι που περνάει από τα πόδια μας!"
"Sons of Greeks! let us go
In arms against the foe,
Till their hated blood shall flow
In a river past our feet!"
Leading by example the foolhardy skald takes a looping route to within range of the sword wielding troll... (25ft Move)
... then attempts to skewer the giant;
10ft Reach - Melee Attack: Standard Action
Inspired Rage Melee: +1 Longspear Spear: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 1 = 21
Inspired Rage Damage +1 Longspear: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6

Hit Troll: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Fire: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Damage: 1d10 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Reeling from the blow, Amphitryon could barely defend himself. Which wasn’t good, as his blade would only stay enchanted with flame for so long.
DM Amazing Red |
Varocles puts down Red for good as the creature stops moving. Polyoinos bravely stabs at the troll. Amphitryon tries to do the same but is unsuccessful.
The troll swings at Amphitryon again upset for some unknown reason.
Greatsword: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 1) + 7 = 11
He then snaps his jaws at Polyoinos.
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Blue stands up Provoking AOOs from Polyoinos and Amphitryon I believe and snaps its jaws at Kyronai. If either of the AOOs hit, disregard the attack as it will put the creature back down before it can attack. Otherwise...
Nom: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
1d10 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Polyoinos |
As the other troll hound rises anew, Polyoinos pivots his bulky form and stabs at the creature;
"Ho-ho! Back to Hades with you fell hound!"
Inspired Rage Melee: +1 Longspear Spear: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 = 27

Round 6 - Raging Song 6/10: 28/28 HP; 16 AC
The skald then turns his attention to the troll, bellowing his song as he does:
Free Action - maintain Raging Song - Inspired Rage: +2 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution and a +1 morale bonus on Will saving throws, but also take a –1 penalty to AC.)
10ft Reach - Melee Attack: Standard Action

Inspired Rage Damage +1 Longspear: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11
Kyronai |
Blue stands up Provoking AOOs from Polyoinos and Amphitryon I believe
Not Kyronai? Anyway, it looks like Poly put it down again.
Very much aware of the regenerating hound in front of him, Kyronai takes a 5 foot step backwards. His attention, however, is focused on the troll with the overlarge sword as he raises his bow and fires a glitterdust spell at it.
DC 16 Will negates, otherwise the troll is blind.
DM Amazing Red |
It was not adjacent to Kyronai when it stood up and I do not believe you have reach.
Polyoinos drops the hound before it can tear into Kyronai. The He-Witch casts a spell on the troll hoping to blind him.
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
The troll rubs at his eyes as he is blinded!
Blue - 42, Amphitryon - 11, Teledoros - 9, Varocles - 7, Troll - Blinded
Amphitryon, Teledoros, and Varocles are up!
Amphitryon |
Hit Troll: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Fire: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Damage: 1d10 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
With fortunes turned now that the troll was blind, Amphitryon stabbed his spear into it’s neck. Such an attack, powered by the the blessings of Varocles and the inspiring song of Polyoinos, was sure to leave a mark.
Teledoros |
Teledoros draws an alchemist's fire and starts to sing backup for Polyoinos after shouting, "I'll take care of the hound!"
Inspire Courage +1 attack, +1 damage, +1 to saves against fear.
DM Amazing Red |
Varocles heals Amphitryon while the latter strikes at the troll with his shadow blade. Teledoros starts up a song to inspire the group.
The troll blindly swings at Amphitryon.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 6) + 7 = 19
Followed by a bite on Polyoinos.
Nom: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Confirming Critical Nom: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
2d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 = 6
Miss Chance, High is Good for me: 1d100 ⇒ 44
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Blue - 39, Amphitryon - 11, Teledoros - 9, Varocles - 7, Troll - Blinded - 33
Party is up!
Polyoinos |
Round 7 - Raging Song 7/10: 28/28 HP, 16 AC, Inspire Courage
As he continues to impale the blinded troll, Polyoinos sings on - to press his comrades onto great deeds;
"Ας πολεμήσουμε λοιπόν με πνεύμα για τη γη μας,
να πεθάνουν για τους γιους μας και να μην ξοδεύουμε τη ζωή μας πια.
Εσείς νέοι άνδρες, κρατήστε μαζί, κρατήστε τη γραμμή,
μην ξεκινήσετε τον πανικό ή την επαίσχυντη διαδρομή."
"So let us fight with spirit for our land,
die for our sons, and spare our lives no more.
You young men, keep together, hold the line,
do not start panic or disgraceful rout."
Free Action - maintain Raging Song - Inspired Rage: +2 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution and a +1 morale bonus on Will saving throws, but also take a –1 penalty to AC.)
As the jaws snap close to his garlanded crown, the skald lines up the brute for another strike...
Inspire Courage/Inspired Rage Melee: +1 Longspear Spear: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 26
Inspire Courage/Inspired Rage Damage +1 Longspear: 1d8 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 13
Amphitryon |
Hit: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Fire: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Damage: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
As Troll is blinded it is at -2 AC. So I hope this is enough to hit
Amphitryon managed one last stab with his spear before the flames on it died out. The situation was dire, as they needed fire...what happened next was i the hands of fate.
Teledoros |
Teledoros continues to sing and pours his alchemists fire down the trollhound's throat.
Coup de gras on the trollhound with the alchemists fire.
2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9
Varocles Seaworthy |
Varocles moves into position to flank the troll with Polyoinos and takes a swing with his trident.
MW Trident Hit Melee: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 15
MW Trident Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 = 6
DM Amazing Red |
Both Polyoinos and Amphitryon land their blows with the latter searing troll flesh. Teledoros finishes off the downed hound. Kyronai, inspired by Teledoros barely lands a shot on the troll which downs it for good.
Combat over!
As the troll finally dies, the party does not hear anymore footsteps.
Amphitryon - 2, Teledoros - 9, Varocles - 7
Greatsword
Potion - Lesser Restoration
Amphitryon |
Breathing heavily, Amphitryon stabbed the troll in the head one last time. ”That was...worthy of a drink. Later, that is. We still need to go inside, see what is in the lair. The beast used a sword, so it might have valuables stashed away.”
Kyronai |
Surprised by his own shot, Kyronai is uncharacteristically lively.
"We did it! We killed a troll!
"Um, we should apply fire to it."
Unless somebody else has a fire effect they can apply, Kyronai tosses a Greek fire onto the troll.
Teledoros |
Teledoros takes a knee to catch his breath. "That was quite the battle. Shall we patch up first, who else is injured? If there's any chance that there are more of them down there, I'd also like to take a moment to enchant my bow before we venture further."
Polyoinos |
Polyoinos ceases his song as the troll falls, then grins broadly at his companions;
"Ho-Ho! Well said Shadow-Champion! It is worthy of a toast..."
He retrieves his wine-skin and takes a deep draught before handing it on;
"To we slayers of the terrible hatch-troll, and its rabid Cerebus-Spawn!"
Polyoinos |
A little dismayed that no-one else joins the toast, Polyoinos takes another gulp (for each member of the band), then with a grin signals he is ready;
"Ho-ho! Onwards and downwards eh my brothers-in-arms!"
Ready...
DM Amazing Red |
The party goes down through where the trapdoor used to be. The stone stairs lead down about 30 feet before you find the bottom. A cavernous chamber reaches east and west, and several smaller corridors branch outward from it. To the east lies a single stone sarcophagus, the plaque eroded from the ravages of time. Map is up. Which Corridor would you like to go down?
