DM-Camris' SAVAGE TIDE: Chapter 4, Here There Be Monsters...

Game Master Camris

Section 5: SHRINE to DEMOGORGON
The heroes must escort a ragged band of castaways through monster-infested wildlands in order to reach the safety promised by the colony of Farshore.
After following the road south leads to a dead end, the castaways are forced to turn inland, into the heart of the jungle...

Even though people have been running about on the bridges, Sunny does her best to help keep people safe as they cross.

Since the journey obviously entails crossing the bridges to continue onwards.

Bryson continues to stab at the creature even as it is sliding off the bridge and it takes him several minutes after to calm down enough to trust himself to speak.

Bryson has three castings of Cure Light Wounds. Bryson will use one for himself. The other two are first come, first served. Please announce that you will make use of them.
He can also give a Cure Moderate Wounds, if needed.

Marius took some time to check for any other lurking threats before dismissing the thundercloud.

"One door seems as good another," he said, "We may as well try this one first, since we're standing in front of it."

"Makes sense." Ghirrak says taking the lead, and depending on his superior vision to pierce any darkness ahead.

Heaving against the doors, you manage to force them open with a groan.
Beyond is a short tunnel leading to a medium large chamber.
MAP
One corner of this chamber has completely crumbled away to reveal a stagnant pool of water; its surface calm, dark, and mysterious.

Knowledge:Engineering DC12:
This chamber was once a dining hall, but over time a leak from the stone above caused the subsidence in the corner.

Bryson:
Your Vermin sense tingles. Some mindless hunger lurks in the direction of the pool.

Sunny totally beleives Msiter Bryson. Moving to sstnad closer to her freinds.

"Is that a door over yonder?" She asks quietly pointing in what is probably their further direction of travel.

"Uhm.. shouldn't we be makin' tha'place safer? Fer all'a folks walkin' wif us?" She adds looking towards the thing Master Bryson pointed at.

Yay! Thank'e Master DM, Sir. (^_^)

Going through the other door, you come to another chamber.
MAP
Two gigantic iron doors stand closed in this chamber, decorated with symbols of water and sealife in tarnished copper.
Opposite them are a pair of pedestals, eah with a peculiar notch cut into the side.
One of these pedestals is made from a dusky red granite, while the other is crafted of light blue marble.
There is another normal double door on the opposite side of this chamber.

Sunny takes one look at the room Master Bryson has waltzed into and shakes her blond mop.

"Nuh-uh...." She ushers people back to the first door way.

"Peoples be stayin' here, right?" She indicates the puddles across the way.

"Things in't safe fer peoples yet. Okeys?"

Marius wasn't entirely on board with the plan of tempting out whatever monstrosity was lurking in the pool, but it was a bit late for him to voice misgivings. Accordingly, he positioned himself to back Burian up, ready to blast the creature with a bolt of telekinetic force.

Island Elf(link) HP 20;56;Fort+6;Ref+11;Will+4;Perc+9; Init+4;AC17(19)Defensive:21

Sunny does breath a sigh of releif as nothing happens as Master Bryson tugs on the big doors.

At Burian's words Sunny spins about and pads closre towards the puddle as well. The better to help if something does pop up.

Perception:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

As Burian approached the puddle, something under the water moved.
The top of the water rippled. Then sloshed a bit.
Then something gelatinous oozed out of the water and up onto the dry floor.

Burian fired his silver darts into the creature dealing massive damage. The gelatinous thing wobbled, leaked a bit, then continued growing.
And growing.
And growing...
Now completely dominating the corner of the room, it seemed to realize Burian was there, and started extruding itself towards him...

He then goes to see about opening the doors in the other room.

Looking at the doors and the mechanism, you conclude you have only one of two levers needed to operate it.
Investigating the door you haven't explored yet, you cautiously open it.

Beyond, you see a branching corridor. Deep niches are set into the walls of this ten-foot wide corridor, each holding fragments of human skeletons caked in mold and fungus.
Rusted metal collars and iron necklaces rest in each niche as well, and a few still retain fragments of crumbling burial shrouds.
On spaces where no niches have been carved, intricate murals of a skeletal humanoid or hound, each wreathed in a long, coiling snake, decorate the walls.

Marius continued to bring up the rear of the group, feeling rather subdued. The continual succession of hostile creatures and the stalker behind the group were beginning to wear him down. Yes, they'd managed to fight everything off so far, but how long could they keep it up for?

For long enough, he told himself firmly. As he'd said to Sunny, staying positive was key. He'd survived two shipwrecks now, and by damn, this blasted island was not going to get the better of him.

Bryson detected some background magics, feeling diffuse and far away.
The bas relief had individual cartouches, some of which, he felt certain, that could be pressed in a mechanical lock pattern of some kind.

With that, she poked a finger into the nostril of one of the 'angry face' cartouches.

It pressed in, and there was a *snap-click*. The stone block in front of her trembled, then slid aside with a grinding of stone on stone and dust sifting from the ceiling.

Beyond stood revealed a chamber; a small crypt dominated by a large stone sarcophagus.
Both the walls of the room and the sarcophagus itself are covered in decorative patterns and carvings of animals.
The top of the sarcophagus depicts in bas relief a man dressed in robes, wearing a feathered headdress, and clutching a blue rod in one hand and a ceremonial dagger in the other.

Simultaneous to that is the hair raising sound of stone lids sliding aside in the maze of hallways behind you. The scuffling steps and staggered walk of humanoid figures come towards you out of the dark...
