DM-Camris' SAVAGE TIDE: Chapter 4, Here There Be Monsters...

Game Master Camris

Section 5: SHRINE to DEMOGORGON
The heroes must escort a ragged band of castaways through monster-infested wildlands in order to reach the safety promised by the colony of Farshore.
After following the road south leads to a dead end, the castaways are forced to turn inland, into the heart of the jungle...

Once someone with mechanical experience fixes the fountain, eveyone has fresh water.
Some of the experienced ones sit on the bridgeways and try fishing for the blind fish down below.

(And tomorrow's breakfast, as well as possibly lunch and dinner and thence maybe smoking some of the meat and thence becomming rations for quite a while.)

"Here. Ye rekon we can be workin' tha' shell in't useful stuffs, like?" She wonders.

Sunny nods her blond mop at Master Bryson's expert assesment.

"S'pose we should be scroungin' up a whole lot'a wood fer makin' smoked crab strips then, hey?" She asks brightly. (^_^)

The sun dips over the horizon and night falls. The night passes and when the sun rises again, everyone is healed and rested.
No sign of a giant crab.

Even this small time outside has brightened and lifted the tanned Elf's mood such that she seems the bright, bouncy lass that entered the dusty darkness behind them.

"Well. We's got'a be gettin' across tha' waters." She says to her freinds and companions, though her words are mainly for Master Bryson, Burian, Ghirrak and Marius.

"SO? Has we gathered enogh drift wood ta' be makin' smoked crab strips?

"T'would be a right easier time takin' tha' critter on wiff jus' ouselfs an' not be havin' other folks paddlin' about." Though she does offer a supportive smile to the folks who's tendancies are not to regularly offer themselves up as monster chow. (^_^)

OK what's the plan? As far as you know, this is the only way out of the dark mountain tunnels.

"I don't suppose anyone has the right sort of spell to convince the crab to do their bidding for a short while?"

Marius asked this not in the expectation that anyone would, but more to eliminate the possibility.

"Some kind of a distraction is probably the next option."

"We can wade through the water to the next beach over there. Jus' stay in the shallows." The lighter blue area. "Our supper is in the deeper water." Darker blue. "Ya'll take some care and we can be on our way just fine."

Bryson will keep watch over the deep water while the troop makes its way to the opposite beach.

Burian carefully stepped off the docking platform, sinking up to his waist in warm clear water, the white sand gritted under his feet as small fishes darted back and forth around him. The air is clear and sunny, the cries of gulls fill the air.

Nothing happens.

Wading out into the bay, he can clearly see the shallow ridge he was walking along towards the bright sandy beach far ahead.

Then...

A gargantuan crab the size of a house emerged in a foam of seawater to the east, its one enormous claw reaching out towards him.

On the one hand, Marius thought it was best to concentrate on one target until it was finished, then move on to the next. On the other, letting the crab bludgeon away at Sunny, maybe connecting, maybe not, really didn't appeal.
