Mara steps forward, a bright smile on her face as she holds out her hand. "Themolin! It's Mara, don't you recognize me? Although I suppose it's not surprising you don't, I was scarcely more than a child when we last met." Her voice drops slightly to indicate a more personal conversation, (although it would still be audible to anyone listening). "You helped my father Guaril piece together some of the paperwork necessary to import and export various luxury Varisian goods. That's actually why I'm here; he wasn't feeling well enough to come this time but I'm finding myself a little lost. I was hoping you could help review the forms to make sure I'm doing everything right. I know you're busy, but perhaps over dinner? My treat of course."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Deception is the same modifier if that would be more appropriate. Also I really, really hate rolling an 8. It's just low enough for me to want to use a Hero Point but just high enough that I don't dare.

When the man who made a note about the party departs, Adalan tries to commit his face to memory and makes a mental note to look out for him in the future.
After Mara and Hannah finish speaking to Themolin, Adalan covertly mouths, "We've come in place of Guaril to help you out of the city, and we need to talk to you privately." His words are magically transported directly into the accountant's ears.
Casting message.

![]() |

That will work.
Themolin relaxes slightly at Mara's words, and Adalan's Message.
"I-I am flattered, but I don't think dinner would be appropriate. I am, however, more than happy to help with the business side of things. You will need to fill out these forms."
He goes through the stack of papers on his desk, and scribbles down a brief note, before handing over the tax forms.
On the back of one is scrawled: Walls have ears. Not safe to talk. There is also a time (2hrs from now) and an address...
What would you like to do?

![]() |

"Got it. We'll meet you there," Adalan responds with another minor communication spell, after glancing around to make sure no one is obviously watching him. Out loud he replies, "Ah, that's a shame. We greatly appreciate your assistance, however. We'll fill these out and bring them back tomorrow so you can make sure we have everything in order."
He takes the forms, making sure the one with the note is quickly shuffled to the middle of the stack. Unless anyone else wants to continue conversing with Themolin, Adalan then heads for the Ministry's exit and onward to the address the accountant provided.

![]() |

Heading to the address provided...
The party gets a little lost in the maze of winding streets down near the docks, but eventually finds their way to the designated address shortly before the appointed meeting time (which is, coincidentally, when curfew starts).
The well-maintained building easily stands out from the dilapidated housing that surrounds it. It is a 30' high warehouse, with a loading yard containing a couple of wagons, and two main entrances into the warehouse itself.
The gate to the loading yard is unlocked.

Mara (barely) resists the urge to roll her eyes. Of course it's not safe to talk here. I wouldn't be making up a story about 'Father Guaril' if it were.
Outwardly she keeps the bright smile on her face as she thanks Themolin for his assistance and takes the forms. Glancing at the meeting time doesn't improve her mood. Really? Right when curfew starts? Is he trying to get us caught?!
That's...actually a thought worth considering. More so when she sees they've been led to a warehouse in a bad part of town. "If I were setting up an ambush, this is the kind of place I'd do it," she mutters to the rest of the group.
Well, ultimately it doesn't matter if Themolin is setting them up or is just really bad at this. Either way they're expected. But that doesn't mean they have to be stupid about it.
"Let me check it out first. I'll signal you if it's safe." As quietly as she can, she enters the loading yard and starts looking around.
Mara is trying to Avoid Notice, but if there are any traps she still gets a check to notice them due to Trap Finder. If there are any windows, she'll take the opportunity to peek inside the warehouse.

This reminds me of during the Playtest, when you still got your Level-2 for Untrained skills, because adventurers practiced a little bit of everything throughout their careers. *sigh*

![]() |

Like with most stuff in PFS2 it seems they just went with a feat for that instead. :( My playtest created character actually had the feat that gave him a +1 on all untrained skills so at lvl 1 he was rolling a flat +0 on untrained stuff instead of -1 like everyone else. Wasn't worth it at all imo.

![]() |

Actually, thank you for pointing that out. As an unintelligent Fighter with very few skill bumps, I think I'll take that Feat next level. Thorax definitely doesn't need it, and my next PC will be a decently-skilled Ranger.
Hannah will actually hit Level 3 after this game, because I'm GMing two repeatables at DunDraCon this weekend and can apply the credit to her. After that, I should almost have enough AcP to create my Lizardfolk Ranger ^_^

![]() |

Kewl!
So about this ACP stuff. Uh, where are the details on it and does it actually work yet? I thought it would show up on the same page as the playtest credits but have yet to see anything there.

![]() |

I'll have to dig up the links, but the recent Society Blog covered that they're *really* close to having the system go live in the next few weeks. Of course, it's been "really close" for months, so we'll see, but I hold out hope.
To play an Uncommon race like a Lizardfolk or Leshy you need 80 AcP. You earn AcP as a player on a 1-to-1 XP-to-AcP ratio (so 4 AcP playing a standard scenario). GMs earn double that. If you play or GM at a Convention, you earn an additional amount, and if you play or GM at a "Premier" Event, such as PaizoCon or GenCon, you earn even more.
So far I've played 12 scenarios (48 pts), 6 quests (6 pts), and will GM 2 scenarios at a Convention (20 pts), leaving me 6 pts shy of a Lizardfolk. With the pace of these games we've been doing, I'm hoping that the AcP system will go live right when I surpass 80 pts, and before Hannah levels out of Tier 1-4 games ^_^

Looking in the door, Bair sees piles of crates.
Sneaking in slightly around one pile, he sees Themolin, gagged and tied to a chair, whilst the man who was talking to the receptionist earlier stands over him, watching dispassionately whilst three women torture Themolin (one using a device like a grater to excoriate his skin, another working over his fingernails, and the third beating him with a cosh).
"You will tell me what is going on, Themolin... I smell opportunity for advancement in the air, and it will be mine!"
At that point, you here a sudden intake of breath off to one side, as another woman who was standing guard (and put on high alert by Hannah's blunder) spots you (since you don't have cover from her), and shouts:

So much for the stealthy approach. Mara's first thought is that she was correct; this was indeed an excellent place for an ambush. But as she rushes in after Bair, it becomes clear that Themolin wasn't the one to set it.

If he doesn't hear anything nearby, Adalan instead runs to the other set of doors in the courtyard and attempts to hold them closed.

Pushing through the door, DC takes aim at Bair.

The incredibly lazy goblin* grabs his club, stands to his feet and tries to sniff around. Then he realizes he isn't angry and his best smelling is when he is angry so he just moves up and nods to little cat, "I'll distracter, goferdathroaht!"
Interact, Stand, Stride into flanking with tiger. No rage so no scent. :(
*How did you know! I try so carefully to not let anyone see me being lazy!

"Convenient." Mara whirls around as Blue is destroyed, smirking at Magenta. "Don't expect you're inclined to surrender, are you? After all, it seems your employer has abandoned you."
Not waiting for an answer, she swings her shortsword at the woman's ribs.

@Bair: Point of order - you were dropped by one of the assassins, so your point in the initiative hasn't come up yet. That said, I will keep that action, so it doesn't impact on what is about to happen ;-)
Adalan realises that the Invisible is actually right near him...
...but is unable to dispel the magic cloaking him.
Mara then tries to stab the woman...
...but fails to land a single blow.
Deshacerla hurries forward, and channels healing energy into Bair, waking him up.
Adalan then loses track of the man, as he moves away...
Bair stands up.
The woman curses, then legs it away from the sociopath with the shortsword...
Athletics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22.
...jumping over the fence.
@Hannah: You get an AoO, if you wish to take it.
