The fireball washes over the Avalanche Legion soldiers, which both move into a spread formation to minimize the damage incoming. While the fireball hurts them, they seem to resist it due to their efforts. The Avalanche Legion soldiers shout and begin to meld into the very ground itself!

The Pyroclasm Legionnaire battalions are swift and well trained; they move out and engage the Pathfinders with Hit and Run tactics! Thrag's attack slams into the oncoming threat

Julian stabs his weapon into the oncoming troop as it stomps past him, then he follows up with a retaliatory attack! Unfortunately, most of Julian's attacks fail to connect. Thrag also assaults the red troop squadron as it passes him. His weapon swings true and deals a heavy blow!

Akyr will use a free action to maintain his performance, he'll take a 5' "step" in the air, then unleash a persistent Confusion spell on the 2 troops.

DC: 23 Will Save, roll twice and take the worse of the two (it's an AoE spell with no limitation on numbers, and it affects both areas of the troops. If it's something that has to completely encompass the troop area (I don't think that's the case, but troops are a bit weird), then he'll target just the orange one to completely encompass it and miss his friends. Spell above is linked for ready access to the percentage table.

As an immediate action, Akyr will drop his performance and cast Saving Finale on Thrag.

He should be just within Akyr's 65' range.
If that 19 (second save) failed , Akyr would cast Saving Finale then...and then the nat-1 would stand. BUT, if the 19 makes it, then you can re-roll that nat-1, Thrag. (might as well make re-roll regardless)

Inspire Courage is gone. If within 30' of Akyr, Banner/Flag bonus of +2 morale to attacks, damage and save v charm and fear still apply.

After the lightning hits the Orange troop, they turn their confused attention directly onto Favian. They take aim and fire their Flame Jets against the magus! It appears they manage a very devastating blow against Favian!

The Avalance troops burst from the ground beneath Hania and Thrag, beating the two adventurers up! The ground becomes unstable for the two, and they need to concentrate just to avoid falling prone! The flame aura from the Pyro Legion Soldiers also burns at the two!

As a move action, Akyr will resume singing out words of INSPIREation and enCOURAGEment. Then he takes careful aim and casts a confusion spell that manages to only target the two earth elemental troops. see light blue AoE.
Then he takes a "5' step" that drops him 10' in elevation, moving directly above Hania's head, granting her the benefits of his Banner.
He calls out, "Try and target any creature that's NOT confused...or use it to our advantage by making them chase you and provoke attacks!"
Sense Motive to recognize whether critters are confused, which he'll share with party: 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (6) + 32 = 38

As the bolt strikes Favian square in the chest, his magical protections activate. The protection spell he cast wards him against most of the fire damage. His link with his familiar, Desmond, then transfers some of that damage away from the magus. Finally his magical barrier softens some of the blow.

So I think how this works is 45 fire is reduced to 15 by the communal resist fire spell. Then the shield master protector familiar ability transfers 8 of the remaining 15 to Desmond. Finally ablative barrier converts 5 of the remaining 7 to nonlethal.

Calling this fight.

The sheer amount of damage between the members of the party slashes, sears, and slices the legionaires! They quickly discover their mistake of trying to face off against the heroes, and many of the soldiers begin to retreat as disorganized chaos begins to ensue!

Now that the vicinity is clear, the party begins to proceed up the cliff path to the ruined building. Inside you find a old oread corpses that have been heat baked, and now have the consistency of crumbly dry clay. Much of their gear is destroyed, save for some magical braces.

Spellcraft DC25:

Bracers of Volcanic Might
Magma oozes out of cracks in these obsidian bracers. Once per day as a swift action, you can gain the benefits of fire shield [warm] and stoneskin [50 points] until the beginning of your next turn. If you activate these bracers as a standard action, the effect lasts for 5 rounds instead.

With no more legionnaires stopping your path, the party has time to recover wounds if needed before reaching Kandirion's Pyre.
Also, please decide who has what relic as well. They may be valuable resources to have.

When the time comes for recompense for recovering these bracers, Akyr will demand his fair share, but he recognizes the bracers (and the relics) would be better served in the hands of others. Nobody wants to use them, that's a different matter...

He absent-mindedly starts draining Thrag's healing wand into him as a matter of course.

"If that is just a portion of the troops they have mustered to protect the Forge, they must have committed a great deal of resources." Teriq says. "Though it would probably behoove us to keep moving, before those that fled can report in, and their search becomes more concentrated."

The bracers would be good for one of the melee types, I'd wager. As would the artifact pick. Unsure on the watery thingme... Teriq usually has both hands full... but the 30 fire resistance just for having it, might be helpful for someone... not to mention that 30 extends to everyone nearby if held, once we hit the fire dominant section of this scenario.

Oh, and I'm not adverse to actually casting healing spells, if someone wants to save wand charges. =) Just ask!

I wouldn't mind having the bracers; I tend to have both of my hands full, so the water item isn't as attractive to me. Wish I were proficient in heavy picks!

The party patches up, and continues its trek towards Kandirion's Pyre. On the distant horizons you eventually see a gate that stands 70ft tall that rishes above the mostly demolished outbuildings, most of which are now just brittle beams and crumbling walls.

Perception DC25:

It appears there was an entrance that the party could take alternatively to the gate. While it appears to have been once a cave entrance that is now covered by slag flow. Normally, unsealing this would probably take an hour of work. Fortunately, you have Fossilblight, which could shorten it to 10 minutes.

Teriq nods, as Thrag points out what looks like it might be an alternate entrance to the Pyre.

"It is likely they have placed guardians at the normal entrance, so an alternate entryway might help. Especially if it allows us to bypass the ward they set there." He says, looking around for signs of guardians on this entry as well.

Shrug, works for me... assuming it does indeed go all the way to the Pyre.
