Then he recklessly opens the first double door on the left.

Natty does a search of the store room but other than the large red furniture, there is nothing of value or especially incriminating.

Up the stairs, Natty and Taman arrive on the upper hallway balcony and check the first door.

Exotic trophies, ancient relics and glimmering weapons rest atop illuminated pedestals that encircle the room. Some of the pedestals are empty.

Out in the hallway, from beyond the closed large doors further to the north, a booming male voice calls out.

Who dares invade the ancient and prestigious estate of Lord Xojject, the ruling patriarch of the power Cinderfury family? ANSWER!!!

After a very short pause, he interrupts....

NEVERMIND! I already know the enough of who you are and why you are here, but I pride myself as a negotiator and I am willing to make a deal with you and your employer for information.

Idruzi waits to see how the creature responds to the questions and suggestions put to him.

GM Only:
I'm getting very suspicious of this 'efreeti lord', but in part that's meta knowledge. I'm wondering what Idruzi would be able to put together with four things: first, he's already suspicious that the efreeti lord is hiding something due to his Sense Motive check. Second, You mentioned that Idruzi saw something moving in the room behind the efreeti lord. Third, the creature is displaying an odd mix of bluster and caution, especially for so powerful a creature. Fourth is somewhat a question. Idruzi knows a fair bit about planar lore. Would he find this sort of behavior very odd coming from an efreet? I'm ready to call the bluff I suspect it to be if that seems reasonable.

Slides/maps

Idruzi:
With your sense motive and prior dealings with Qalkami, this efreet 'Lord' is definitely not as powerful as he wants you to believe. You get the impression he is stalling for time.

At Umberto's question, the towering genie bristles and flares.

WHAT? You practically break into my estate and you do not know who I AM? He settles a bit, but still his pride fuming.

Of course I am Lord Xojject. But none of you and your cultured civility have introduced yourself to me.

He steps into the hallway and the other door opens with a harsh shove from within. Natty is able to see a smoldering, hulking creature in the bedroom beyond.

Now that you have an offer on the table, albeit a weak one, we can descend to one of my conference rooms to continue this negotiation.
What would you seek in return to this book transport?

I will also need perception and/or new sense motive checks from each of you with your next post.

It looks like Idruzi can 5' step behind Taman and Zaigan to cast his spell without provoking. If not, he'll use his Grace spell to move around to a better position and cast from there.

"You got this, Zaigan. Go get him," Idruzi says before he casts Fly on the paladin.

Idruzi Spells Prepared:
4th--Air Walk, Dimension Door (d)
3rd--Communal Resist Energy, Fly (d), Invisibility Purge, Prayer
2nd--Align Weapon, Bull's Strength (d), Grace, Lesser Restoration, Resist Energy
1st--Bless, Enlarge Person (d), Divine Favor, Liberating Command, Remove Fear, Shield of Faith
Orisons--Create Water, Detect Magic, Light, Stabilize

As I went back to verify my spells for the day, I realized that I'd been working off Idruzi's normal spell spoiler rather than the list I declared at the beginning of the scenario. He actually still has an Air Walk if we need it. Everything I actually cast really was on the prep list declared, fortunately.

Taman's first strike takes a large chunk of the elemental's chest. The second hacks the hulk down into a heap of molten lava.

Hsssssssss! the creature fizzles and smolders as it drops to the floor.

Idruzi has no problem casting his spell after stepping out of reach of the efreet (no grace needed)

Zaigan suddenly feels light as a feather.

Had Natty listed twice, fixed the order...

Dresden and Murphy take out their aggression on the poor fallen azer as he can barely defend himself.

Hey! he cries out in pain.

Both hit due to prone and flank.

Umberto stands and looks for an opportunity to act (delays).

Lord Xojject bellows NO! Not my servant! You vandals will PAY!

He unleashes a trio of quick fire rays at Natty before swinging his large falchion at the plucky flying halfling.

On Natty with a flick of his wrist...
quick scorching ray: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25 for fire: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 4, 4) = 17
quick scorching ray: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23 for fire: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 1, 1) = 11
quick scorching ray: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31 for fire: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 3) = 11

All three rays hit but sizzle harmlessly on Natty's protected shirt.

Bah! Now I will deal with you, punk!

On Zaigan with a passion, slashing hard on the paladin with his first swing.
mwk falchion: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30 for dmg,: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (1, 6) + 9 = 16 hits

The Azer will continue to attack from prone, not ready to try to stand.
