{I would suggest that we make for the closest doorways first, that way any retreats we may have to be forced into will be less likely to be blocked. However, that is just my opinion on the matter, and if the group decides to go another way, I will go with that decision.} That said, Klysk moves out a short ways into the hallway, his drone skittering along the wall above and slightly ahead of him.
@V'rax - Understandable
V'rax'l'striss |
"No, it isss not an initimidation tactic, not primarily. I am not sssurprisssed you do not know," V'rax comms back to their superiors. "A few tribesss like mine hold to more... traditional beliefsss. Perhapsss when we are done I will tell you." His voice quietly intones dispassionately and matter-of-factly, showing deference toward the Society leaders, yet there is a non-committal edge toward the end of his statement, as if he does not expect it to happen.
He quietly follows and surpasses Klysk and M'Shak, nodding in polite appreciation of the initative they have shown to select their next destination. V'rax takes up crouched position in front of the nearest new doorway, awaiting the others to follow suit while he scans the hallway for any other hostiles, ready to intercept them before they can harm the rest of the team.

Not particularly stealthy nor perceptive, this will go well!
Edit: sorry messed up the perception roll
Chivix |
Chivix withheld his response to the Vesk's challenge, as the Starfinder leaders stepped into the conversation. In an active fighting zone, there was no point in continuing the conversation. He had said his piece after all. If the vesk was going to defy his wishes, all the while complaining that it was the shirren who were not caring about others' traditions or beliefs, then that was the vesk's problem.
Chivix would focus on the mission. And right now, the mission was opening those doors and dealing with whatever was on the other side.
Ready to go
SerDol |
Wiping off his baton, he nodded to the others "Well done everyone, though hopefully they didnt hear anything. Oh my V'raxn again?" he opted to look away. He knew the Vesk har a tendency to do that, but always hoped he'd give up the habit. "Eat on your own time big guy, for now we need to keep moving. M'Shak, keep an ear out, let us know if they seem alerted to our oresence" Moving up to the door with the others, he moved silently and listened closely at the door

@GM M'shak speaks Jinsul
M'Shak, already fluent in the harsh tongue, relays that most of the dialogue are administrative orders and requests for technical info; nothing critical to your current mission.
Also, this door also has a key card reader, and appears to be made of a stronger metal alloy than the other doors. Turns out you need a key card to open this door. My bad, I misread the description, sorry for the confusion! I'll move the party to the next door and keep all your same actions
Evidently something important is stored behind this closer door, since the material is demonstrably much tougher than the polymers that make up the other doors. Klysk gets a good look at the opening mechanism and thinks he can jimmy it open with a key card to at least allow base access, but the system is too heavily fortified for him to hack in a timely manner all on his own. He brings the group to the next door, which SerDol examines before giving M'Shak and Klysk the nod to open it.
Klysk Engineering: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (20) + 18 = 38
This door Klysk breezes through, easily rigging the external interface wiring to force the door open. The room beyond contains four walkways that rise twenty feet above the dark floor below. A platform rests to the west, while two computer terminals reside on its the north and south sides. A walkway along the northern wall accesses a single computer terminal. A raised circular platform in the center of the room hosts another semicircular terminal that rises from the floor.
If you want to explore this room, place your token, describe your action, and include an appropriate skill check (Perception and Computers are safe bets here). The blue X's denote the computer interfaces.
Chivix |
Chivix moved in cautiously, eyeing the nearby computer console. His plan was to access the terminal there and see what information it could provide on the rest of the room, and on this facility as a whole. It wasn't until he was halfway there that he realized he didn't speak jinsul. Oh well, perhaps Gravy could come up with a suitable translation. If not, there was always M'Shak.

What are the floors and/or walls of the room (and specifically the central pillar) made out of?
GM Skeemo |
Sorry for the delay! Wedding this weekend ate up all my time, plus travel back on Monday. Just a reminder that posting may become sparse or short for the next two weeks while I'm overseas. I'll endeavor to keep the posting regular, but bear with me as I'll be subject to WiFi availability and time restraits.
The walls are made of metal alloys, and the central pillar has a computer interface made of various metals and plastics.
M'Shak gets into the interface, but it opens only to a timer for synchronized activation. SerDol, V'rax, and Chivix point out that the other two terminals also light up as it activates, and they leap to action.
Athletics: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22
V'rax leaps across the north chasm and activates the terminal there, while Chivix activates his jump jets to reach the central platform. The three simultaneous activations light up the massive projector screen on the western wall, which fills the room with live-response 3D touch holograms of the surrounding space: the three stars and multiple planets of the Scoured Stars, several other systems in the vast, and blinking indicators of jinsul and hostile starships and fleets.
Computers (kit): 1d20 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 15 + 4 = 36
With a moment's work, M'Shak traces the recent activity on this high-tech navigation system to learn the location of a newly constructed jinsul fleet that’s currently moving through the Drift to a staging area somewhere in the Vast. Shortly after doing so, however, there is a hiss as two hidden panels slide open, and robots resembling lithe mechanical crustaceans crawl out to confront the intruders!

FYI I have a jetpack, but leaping about like a tree lizard is cool, too :D
The Vesk warrior opens his mouth and half growls, half laughs, as his tongue extends in a taunting motion toward the newcomers, his fangs glistening with delight. "Toy robotsss, come to play!"
He takes aim with his plasma array and shoots once at each enemy drone, intending to draw their fire away from his allies. If that doesn't work, he might resort to charging (well, flying) into melee.

"Try not to damage these robots too badly. Chivix would like the opportunity to study them before we leave. Gravy, designate the nearest robot as target aleph."

Chivix |
"Friends, take care of the one near you. Gravy and Chivix will handle the one on the wall."
With a mental command, Chivix directed Gravy to target the robot on the far wall, then opened up with another blast of overpowered laser fire. The bloom of laser fire warmed the barrel of his rifle, and Chivix dropped his grip as he allowed the weapon to cool down. One of these days he was going to have to address the overheating issue.

GM Skeemo |
Chivix, Jackojare, and V'rax lay low the second construct, which detaches from the wall and falls into the pit with a loud clatter. This saves the others some ammo.
Combat over! You may attempt to salvage usable parts from the robots with a DC 20 Engineering check. Other than that, you've found all you think this room has to find. What do you do/where do you go next?
Klysk |
Engineering: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26
Quickly moving up and salvaging some of the robotic remains, Klysk then takes stock of their situation. {I vote that our next destination be either the room following this along the right-hand wall, or the one along the left. Theoretically, there should be no major difference between the two of them in potential risk.}
Jackojare |
Jackojare will ask his allies if they want to wait ten minutes. You can all take a rest if you want, I would like to make another grenade He will make a Frag Grenade II, and then load it into grenade launcher if they agree to 10 minutes.
Klysk |
{I personally don't feel a particular need to rest, but certainly won't object to spending a short period so that others may rest.}
V'rax'l'striss |
Nodding to the others as he reloads his weapons to full power, V'rax quietly says, "Ressst if you need, I will ssstand watch." He makes his way to the southeastern door they skipped, in full view of both doors and the hallway should any sentries pass by.
Chivix |
Chivix helped Jackalore salvage some of the robot parts, then spent the next ten minutes poking through their innards and downloading fragments of their code to peruse at his leisure. He was right. The jinsul had made some interesting advances in non-humanoid robotics. He could incorporate some of this into his own designs later.
Ready to move on when the others are
@Gm - I know you said we were done here, but were we able to access the computers? Would they give us more information?

@Gm - I know you said we were done here, but were we able to access the computers? Would they give us more information?
Yes, you found the location of the jinsul fleet.
The next door along the right wall is locked, with a handwritten note in Jinsul, reading: Danger. Proceed with caution.

Chivix |
"Wait, if all these creatures died from disease, isn't that one likely to be infected as well? Chivix thinks taking it with us is not a good idea."
Chivix continued looking around the room to see if he could determine the purpose of this place, or any other useful or interesting information.

{Alternatively, due to its relatively healthy appearance, it could be immune to whatever malady killed off the others specimens in this room. If so, then this creature could be useful in synthesizing some form of treatment for this illness, assuming that the Jinsul are attempting to weaponize it in some manner.} Klysk pauses for a moment before continuing. {Also, bringing it along wouldn't be much of a hindrance anyway. We have likely already been exposed to the source of this illness, by either entering this chamber or by coming into contact with the singular remaining creature.}
M'shak |
If this one have survived it could be immune to it and the key to find a cure if the Jinsul have weaponized the disease. There is a 47.8% chance that the creature is an healthy carrier of the disease and 52.2% that its immune and without danger.
V'rax'l'striss |
Biological weapons.
V'rax mutters to himself, shaking his head in disgust and spitting as if attempting to excise some bitter taste from his mouth, literally. The last time he had seen biological warfare was long ago but not long enough. The devastation to civilians was far greater than the target combatant population. The death toll rose steadily, day by day, but their overlords commanded the war continue. Powerless to heal the outbreaks, revenge was their only recourse, or so they convinced themselves. Negotiation never even crossed their minds.
"We do not know if they are developing biological weaponsss," he finally says aloud, more an angry growl than a conversational tone. "We ssshould look for evidenccce." He points to the creature in SerDol's arms. "THAT could be ussseful, but keep it out of the way."
The brooding Vesk stalks off to the next doorway, weapon ready and searching for a target, even if the target was not deserving or worthy.

And there is a 100% we are going to try to help them.
SerDol |
SerDol clears his throat a little, still holding the creature. "Right, yes yes, it could be sick, though I too thought its apparent immunity to the disease that killed the others. Why else would I let such a creature that we found in a room like this lick my face. he says almost too quickly as he continues to hold the creature, giving him a once-over to see if he showed any signs of being sick.

Either way, Sonwatt will undoubtedly be useful one way or another. No sense in the rest of you risking getting sick... I'll carry him. Though we should probably tell Historia and Raszam about all this" and gets on comms to inform them while following Vrax.
GM Skeemo |
It doesn't look like SerDol is diseased right now. The critter wags its tentacle tips and pants loudly at SerDol.
Assuming you go to the next door (closer than V'rax noticed; map updated).
The rank smell of mildew and an earthy decay fill the hot, humid air of this confined space. A five-foot wide catwalk comes off the eastern door, spanning the width of the room and resting five feet above black, opaque liquid that glows with green and purple hues in the soft light. To the west, a funnel descends from the ceiling and periodically grinds before releasing viscous material into the water, landing with a slight splash.
