[PFS] Grotto of the Deluged God (Inactive)

Game Master Gummy Bear

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 1–5.

When a ship that Venture-Captain Calisro Benarry hired to ferry Pathfinders to the Gloomspires vanished, she called upon diviners to speak to the sailors, only to learn that they had met a watery grave. Benarry has narrowed down the ship’s location to the shoals off the coast of the pirate island of Tempest Cay. While the venture-captain asks some questions on shore and searches for survivors, the PCs must travel out to the shipwreck, uncover the reason why a crew of experienced sailors met their doom, and discover why the nearby ocean has been growing increasingly perilous.

Contents in “Grotto of the Deluged God” also contribute directly to the ongoing storyline of the Concordance faction.

I am also not opposed to a break. As some of you know, my random and unforeseeable flying/sleeping schedule means I often end up missing a day or two here and there. I certainly can't complain when others have to do the same.

I'm stuck too. Chhat doesn't really have anything to offer in this arena. Souja's a ranger and has wild empathy, so she might be able to calm it down. I've been holding out on posting to see what she does.

Healing might work. It was noted that we're all considered adjacent to the critter, so a healer should be able to touch it or use a wand without going swimming.

In an alternate universe….

Jump checks:

Acrobatics: Vertical jump 1: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (19) + 20 = 39
Acrobatics: Vertical jump 2: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 20 = 28

Souja slams the dragon with her earthbreaker, sending dragon scales and bits of bone and gore flying into the sea and the vortex. Chhat knows she needs to get a clear shot, and there’s nowhere better than from above. She calls upon her personal reserves of guts and sprints toward the wall at the back of the cave, her feet churning across the sand, running supernaturally fast for such a small being. As she nears the wall, she leaps straight up while also bringing her feet up in front of her body. When her feet make contact with the back wall over 9 feet off the ground, she caroms off across the back of the cave, soaring just behind and over Willow. She flips in midair, again bringing her feet to the fore, and lands safely and cleanly atop the edge of the back wall another 7 feet above where she last touched the stone. Looking down at the top of the mangled dragon’s head from 16 feet above, she draws her pistol and begins to line up a shot….

How, you ask?:

Using one of the main features of the new Black Powder Vaulter archetype:

Daring Vault (Ex): A black powder vaulter can spend 1 grit point as a swift action to increase her land speed by 20 feet (gaining the appropriate bonus on Acrobatics checks to jump) until the end of her turn. If the black powder vaulter jumps while affected by this deed, she can make a second jump while midair if she is adjacent to a wall, column, or other solid, permanent structure. The second jump counts as having a running start even if the direction is different from the first jump. This deed replaces the gunslinger’s dodge deed.

Adding +8 for the increased land speed to her existing +12 Acrobatics skill means she taps long jumps up to 20’. And she can tap two 20’ long jumps in a double move. She can even reload as part of one of those jumps (different class ability.) Next level she gets Shot on the Run that works with both of those features. Draw, move, fire, move, and be reloading while caroming off walls, all in one round. Very Matrix!

That's so cool! Haha shame on you Souja ;) Control those dice of yours next time!

The tactics for the dragon are actually pretty solid IMO. They are explicitly required to fly away and use their breath weapon from 40ft up as often as possible, otherwise full-attack. The routine would have looked something like:

R1 - Withdraw 40ft into the air (150ft of flight and a decent fly mod, easy peasy)
R2 - 3d6 of acid in a line (so likely two of y'all)
R3 - Melee until breath weapon recharge
Repeat.

Not unstoppable by any means, but way better than some of the dragons I've seen where they just sit there and full-attack (lol or "it spreads it's attacks across as many foes as possible).

So apparently vanara were totally a real thing in Hindu mythology.

I was at the Batu Caves complex outside Kuala Lumpur today. Inside one cave there's all these life-size dioramas of Rama's life. One of them had these monkey-people standing in the group in front of his throne.

I don't usually take pics on my travels, but I had to have a picture of the vanara and needed to share it with someone. (I'm not on Facebook, so no "sharing" of every little detail of my life.)

There's also a pic of one of the monkeys that inhabit the caves and the shrines. The stupid tourists (the ones that are stupid, I mean, not all of them by any means) feed them, or the monkeys steal food from your bags.

Unfortunately, the vanara didn't have a gun, too. I guess that would have been asking too much.

Actually, I think you responded exactly correctly. Souja seems like the big, strong, quiet type, so her lack of verbal response was completely in character.

In character, Chhat is a happy, sweet, friendly person and would not be upset with how Souja handled it. She's modeled off an amalgam of several of the young ladies I've dated in Asia. She's bi, but she's also fully aware that not everyone she likes is interested in her nor tolerant of her ways. And she's not offended by other people's attitudes or preferences. In fact the opposite - she celebrates diversity, variety and their discovery. She'd be upset if someone tried to force her to be someone she's not. She'd also be truly upset if someone felt like she was pressuring them to be someone they're not.

If anything, perhaps I owe you an apology if the situation made you, Blue Moose, uncomfortable. My limiting her to thoughts and gushing words which she shyly and self-consciously cut off, without trying to take it any further, was intended to forestall any pressure on you to have Souja respond. I took Souja's silence or chuckles as her in-character response of amused tolerance, much like how a star handles the gushing praise of a fan. I do truly apologize if I made you feel awkward or uncomfortable.
