Battle map

Hey all!

Sometimes you have a mechanical character concept as a player or battle concept as a GM you just want to take out for a spin. In the past, I've run a couple quick battles like this one that became two or this one that we ran twice because of TPKs. Those have been fun for me to try out various things on the GM screen side of things.

I enjoy those and could do another one or two but would also like to experiment some on the player side. So who would be interested in taking turns playing/gming something like this? All details are up in the air regarding build rules, level, and PF 1e or 5e. Most of those would simply be decided by the GM of the current one-shot but we should probably have a consensus regarding game system (PF would be my vote). Lmk if you're interested, what system you'd like to play, and any other thoughts.

Bump. I'd be willing to run the first fight to drum up interest. This would be the parameters:

Pathfinder Level 10
25 pt buy
Standard wealth
Pre-crafting allowed
Paizo materials allowed in general but certain very cheesy elements are banned, e.g. blood money. I don't have a full list but most of us know these when we see them.
4 man party
Two very difficult encounters in one dungeon
Post 1/weekday and 1/weekend
All races 20 RP or less allowed
Maps will be via Google Slides

You know, this does sound like fun. I've had some boss battles in my head I could try to put down on pen and paper. Consider me interested

Silver Crusade

I'd be up for it actually. I have several PF boss fights lined up for a F2F campaign that I sort of want to try out. And more than a few builds I wouldn't mind testing ;)

Cool let's do it! I'm happy to go first.

The Malaki Shrine
Your group descends into the Qadiran cave, intrigued by the few valuables scattered here and there on rotting corpses. You journey hundreds of feet into the dark caverns until you come to a great stone door barricaded shut from your side. Strange markings cover the door with one symbol in particular repeated over and over. Surely great danger and treasure waits inside.

May attempt spoiler after choosing skills. Should not then change skills. XD

DC 25 K Rel:

The markings are the symbol of Mazzmezz, demon queen of Vermin.

There's your setup! Let's make characters and roll! One should have some idea who/what the character is but we don't need full backstories.

Awesome! I'm throwing together a sorcerer, who could potentially craft gear for the rest of the party if that's permitted.

If you want 4 players should we try and recruit more or make two characters each?

Yep pre-crafting for the whole party is fine.

Let's get four players here. I'm sure we can recruit a couple of more.

trying to decide between my magus, my wizard, my kinetcist, or my caster fighter haha

(Vampire cat here)

I'm throwing this Fetchling sorcerer into the pot for boss fight one. He's a very utility sorcerer, and I tried to get most of the important buffs and battlefield controls spells, with just a little bit of blasting.

Not yet finished, obviously. The spell list and feats list is under revision. In particular, I'd like to take requests for crafting from the rest of the party before I finish them. Craft magic arms/armour will be dropped if unused. I'm also still working on a more exact gear list.

Two questions: Traits? How shall we calculate health?

I'm very happy to hear suggestions on making a stronger character.

I should also add that I'm willing to run a boss battle after this one and already have some ideas.

Traits: 2. Campaign traits may only be selected with special permission.
Health: PFS. Full HD at level 1. Avg of HD rounded up thereafter.
Fights: One smaller one to warm up then you can heal/etc before kicking down the door for the final.

Sounds good, Pyuvir!

FYI regarding format, I'll narrate you right into the warm-up combat to get things started quickly. Then you'll get to choose when to kick off the second.

Fun options, rorek. Always hard to choose! XD

This sounds interesting, let me see what I can come up with

Sounds good. I'm going to spread my net a little wider and try to get us a fourth player.

Silver Crusade

dang.. I almost wanna ask if we can be level 11 XD, level 10 seems like such a dead level for so many classes lol.

Eh... maybe not. It's not a dead level for spontaneous casters. They don't get enough love. :)

I’d love to throw a character together. I’ve got a couple melee ideas floating around that I’d like to try out. Thinking about either a wereboar bloodrager into dragon disciple if that will be allowed, or a 3 armed mutagen Warrior with a tower shield and a 2 handed weapon. I know the tower shield is suboptimal, but I’d like to get it as good as I can.

Silver Crusade

would you be open to me using a 3pp class I've been looking at for a while?

Silver Crusade

eh, never mind. I think I'm just gonna go with the magus.

Silver Crusade

Here is my magus, coming along quite well, not decided on a couple of things atm but she is mostly finished. even have some background for her.

I think Pyuvir can do most of the crafting for you if you want to save the feat. We definitely shouldn't both take it.

Silver Crusade

hm. If that's fine, then I may take craft ring instead.

I think I’m going to test out a character concept. Freebooter ranger, holy tactician paladin and medium. ranged fighter with some goodies for the party. teamwork feat and shared seance

Sounds like cool stuff, folks. Just make your builds and I'll kick us off.

Ithe: That sounds fine except how would you be a wereboar? That's not a Paizo playable race I'm aware of.

whoops, Skinwalker with the wereboar-kin alternate features.

Ah I thought you might mean that. Totally allowed.

Ithe Reporting in
Character Sheet

Matin is a 3 armed, winged Suli mutation fighter wielding a Tower shield and a Bardiche.

I took the liberty of utilizing Pyuvir's crafting services. In addition, Matin has mundane armor crafting capabilities.

If we can craft for each other, I think I'll take craft rings.

Hi Matin thanks for getting ready fast. I've only just started checking over people's sheets but I notice that Matin has potions of long arm and lead blades. Those would be great spells to have in potion form but a potion "must not have the range of personal" like those spells do so they aren't allowed as potions.

Glad to be of service!

For reference, Pyuvir can craft any weapon, armour, or wondrous item of up to a caster level of 28, -5 per spell he doesn't know (By taking 20 on spellcraft). If that still doesn't work, hit me up and I can modify his spell list.

Pyuvir, you can take 10 on a spellcraft check to make items but you can't take 20 since there's a risk of failure. So that means you can craft up to CL 18-5 per spell you don't know. You can however use crafters fortune, fox's cunning, etc to up that limit.

Thanks for that. My bad. I should refresh myself on potions. Also, I’ll double check to make sure those magic items can be crafted.

Silver Crusade

He can also make use of spells that the party has if he needs them. I purchased some spells already for my items, so he wouldn't need to take the -5.

Good point, Rorek.

Oops, yeah you're right. Okay. Sorry about that.

No worries.

Silver Crusade

after having a long hard think about.. I decided I wanted to try out something I have been considering for awhile now. A scaled Monk/dragon disciple build.

so far... its looking pretty scary.

Here is the scary boi not quite fine tuned yet, but most of the stuff is there.

(atm, his AC is counting both barkskin and mage armor, since he will likely already have cast them, since one is hours/level and the other 10min/level)

Ok, all relevant changes made I think. Had to drop an item and pay higher cost some etc. no substantive changes to build, just money. I think Matin should be squared away unless I messed something else up (always possible).

I'll review builds more thoroughly this afternoon EST. I could start within about 36 hours once the four builds are assembled. Question is, who's going to make the religion check? :)

Not it!

It's fine if nobody does. It would help you have some idea what is coming but that's not vital.

Are you still accepting submissions? This guy is one I've tried to play several times but never got past second level. Simple, heavy fighter. Still need to add skills and didn't take advantage of any item crafting feats as he doesn't have any.
He doesn't have Knowledge-Religion so can't even try that roll. :)

Yeah I'm just going to start and roll with the first complete and satisfactory four builds. Pyuvir is crafting wondrous items and magic arms and armor for the party so you can take most of those at half price.

Later today, I'm going to start checking builds. I'll let everyone know if their build is ready to go or what they can do to make it so.

I'm sure every GM will organize this bit a little differently. In addition, I'm definitely not going to comb INCREDIBLY carefully over these builds for something shorter than a one-shot. I'm just going to point out things that look wrong. I might also ask for a breakdown of some numbers that seem too high/low.

Ready to go as far as a glance can tell, no comments:
Rhodoh
Matin

Comments on build:
Pyuvir: Looks good but why are you holding onto so much unspent gold? Seems odd.
Rorek: Looks like you're close. Just need to pick a feat for 9th level?

Expressed interest but not build presented yet:
I'm not a beholder

So we're pretty close to jumping in! I might start us off tomorrow.

It's because I hadn't quite finished my shopping spree yet. I'll have a finished version by tomorrow.

Update: finished gear. The statblock is complete. I'm now going to duplicate it and add all his buff spells, and create one for his familiar.

I’m ready whenever

Rorek, how's it going? You almost ready to start?

Silver Crusade

yeah, I'm ready, just gotta pick a feat really.

Cool. I'm going to go ahead and open up gameplay. Feel free to make any rolls, etc, describe your character, open the door, what have you. I'll move things forward if I feel the need.
