Khellek flexes his wolf muscles with a little assistance from Bossk and Jack and they rip up the spiderwebs which allows everyone to get through. As you get past the spider webs you catch a glimpse of the moonlit trail as if you are on the right path.
Obstacle 5: Swamp Gas
A pocket of putrid swamp gas lingers just above the surface of the swamp. A vile stench emanates from it, suggesting its hazardous nature.

Khellek-wolf blinks. While the form certainly had advantages in a chase - his glasses didn't seem to be falling off his face for example, this was not really the life than an elderly scholar used to searching for answers in books, was used to.

The number of lurkers is smaller than the ones you were chasing and the unconscious body is on the alter. you surprised them by being so fast and getting through all of the obstacles.

"Wooooofffffffffffffffffffffff"
Then realises his companions probably would benefit more from his Wisdom in Taldane, a language that the wolf form is regrettably ill-equipped to speak.
He too turns back into a hybrid.

Florin walks up to take her place beside Bossk.
Taking out her wand, she activates its magical protection on herself.
Wand of mage Armor if the previous one has expired else shield.
"What do we have here?" she asks while in Hybrid form.

GM Scott |

Bossk sneaks around and (survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13) sees some footprints of the things they were chasing leading off in the direction of the moonlit trail like they had kept going but these two stopped with the injured person. You are pretty confident that there are only two here. Although the GM was really hoping to play high tier and have all 6 to gank you with. ;)
Khellek shifts back to hybrid.
Tatiana shifts to hybrid as well.
Yabatha casts Bless (+1 to hit)
Jack shifts back to hybrid and is still looking significantly injured from the last fight.
Florin (mage armor is still active, hours per level will be active the whole adventure) uses her wand of shield. Since I just threw you on the map, I'll give you the free move to get into some other group order. That is not normally allowed in a surprise round but it is a bit harder in a PbP to get people to just put their minis on the map like we do in person. So no problem.
Prevailing light condition is currently moonlight only but as you all have Darkvision from your Hybrid form or natural Darkvision, you can see just fine for now.

nature: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23
In the excitement, Khellek loses track of some useful knowledge, however he is still a font of wisdom.
"Woooffff.... I mean, that is... these are Twilight Lurkers. They are extraplanar fey creature. Stories say that only weapons of cold iron will truly hurt them. I suspect that is an exaggeration, but if you have cold iron, I recommend using it. They have magical abilities too, and beware getting between them or them striking from hiding, for they are known for cunning cruel attacks in those situations."
He thinks harder. "In these lighting conditions I think they have some magical ability to hide too, so beware. We should stick close together."
He takes out Bessie, sighs and snaps a bolt into place.
Silver, but no cold iron. Now that was poor preparation.
Inspire courage. +2 to hit and damage.

Khellek starts inspiring courage. Then takes a look and recognizes them but then wonders where they went.

I cannot see any enemies on the map, is that for a reason?
Yabatha will touch Florin with guidance for whatever she wishes to do next. "Where are they, can you see them?"

![]() |

Khellek sidles up, ready to unleash bessie on the lurkers, then changes his mind and instead summons forth a bright light!
"It maybe their nature is such that in bright light they will be clearly seen.." he conjectures.
I'm not sure what Blend with Twilight actually means, but here is hoping.
I've added a 20' globe of light around Khellek. Technically there is another 20' of light further out that is one step higher than the ambient conditions. I'm not sure if that would be enough to make a difference to the lurkers, and it would be really massive on the map, so I've not added it.

GM Scott |

Khellek ... summons forth a bright light!
I'm not sure what Blend with Twilight actually means, but here is hoping.
Can I assume you cast Light?
Blend With Twilight (Su) In areas of dim light, lurkers are invisible. As with greater invisibility, they can attack and still remain invisible. If the lurker is flying, its fluttering wings partially negate this effect, giving it only partial concealment (20% miss chance) rather than total concealment.

![]() |

Yes, cast light.

![]() |

I used a wand not my own spell so I'm using a wand of Mage armor now.
Hearing what Khellek has to say, Florin stows one wand to draw out another and activate its power on her.
Now fortified with both Magical armor and shield, she contemplates casting a spell to allow one of her companions to see this likely invisible creatures.

Tatiana Delays
Yabatha casts Guidance on Florin.
Jack Delays
Florin acting confused, decides to cast the same spell on herself as she already had.
Bossk rages to gain his scent ability, then smells some foes. Using his move action to detect the scent direction, he smells two somethings, one to the North East and the other East. I'll remind you how scent works, it is a move action to attempt to detect the direction of the enemy you smell. See Scent. Also keep in mind you are blinded, thus any attempt to move faster than half speed requires a DC10 acrobatics check or you fall prone. You also take a -4 to acrobatics so untrained you are at +1. See Blinded
Khellek Casts Light but he still doesn't see any foes within the light cast by the spell.

Failing that, she uses the spell on herself..
