Rage Round 9
GM Scott |
Tatiana makes the fort save then starts moving sort of East and smells some foes. She uses a move action to smell for them and detects two smells, one to the North East and one more East. See link below on how scent works, but keep in mind that you weren't told by your companion where they were so you couldn't just start walking North East from where you were at.
Yabatha makes the fort save then forgets that she too can smell out things in her hybrid form.
Jack continues to delay while also forgetting that while he is in hybrid form he can smell things too. Plus his injuries are probably affecting his brain, maybe there was a concussion involved in that last fight which is causing him to forget to heal.
Florin casts See Invisibility on herself and can see a couple of lurkers that look just like the ones they were chasing earlier but somehow in the scenario were visible before.
Bossk tries to trick the little guys (and me while I was posting this) Red Sense Motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 Green Sense Motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16. They probably don't believe the big scary orc dude bro holding a weapon and smelling the air for them.
Khellek continues inspiring, gets out a scroll, moves up and still can't see any bad guys sees them.
I placed the bad guy minis on the map for Florin but keep in mind that you still don't know where they are and you all have a sense of smell for a reason. They were illuminated by the torch for a second and you all saw where they were. So I need to make a correction.
Red casts a spell and it gets dark again. The whole area is back to dim light.
Green casts a spell Fort Save Jack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Khellek continues his encouraging rhetoric..
Inspire courage +2 to hit, damage, vs fear
Still need to know if I'm aware of what spell they cast, if it is one he can counter with a light spell, then He'll do that. Otherwise it is glitterdust time, centred where he last saw one, unless doing so will catch one of us as well.
GM Scott |
Tatiana moves up and attempts to hit, but misses.
Yabatha double moves.
Florin moves right up to Green and hits it but doesn't seem very effective at all. She then calls out to Jack to let him know where to shoot.
Jack waits until right after Florin tells him where to shoot, then takes a shot at the invisible thing and thinks he hit it.
Bossk slowly moving up at half speed so as not to trip, tries to hit the thing he smells. Miss chance (high good): 1d100 ⇒ 88 and feels like he landed a solid hit.
Khellek tries to see the spell like ability the little lurker used and realizes that they get to cast spells way above their pay grade. So he continues inspiring while everyone appears to be engaged with them.
Shadow Cloak (Sp) Up to three times per day as a standard action, the lurker in twilight can touch an object to wreath it in a magical aura of shadows. The light level within a 60-foot radius of the object changes to dim light. If this effect is brought into an area of magical light or darkness (or vice versa), it is temporarily negated, so that the otherwise prevailing light conditions exist in the overlapping areas of effect. The shadow cloak can be used to counter or dispel any light or darkness spell of 3rd level or lower, such as darkness and daylight. Darkness or daylight can counter or dispel shadow cloak.

Recasts light to cancel out their shadow cloak.
You might want to do something else as Light will continue to have no effect. You need a light producing spell higher than 3rd level to change the lighting conditions which is dumb for low tier but that's what we got to work with.
GM Scott |
Not sure why there is a miss chance with scent when:
You are still blind which is not negated with scent. And everything is considered to have concealment when you are blind. You would have to clear that condition to get rid of the miss chance.
Edit: I should add that they are also invisible which give them concealment. So while you can smell the square they are in, you still have a miss chance to hit them in the square.

You all head back out to the moonlit trail you were following, Yabatha at Bossk's side guiding him along.
A low howl echoes through the forest and into the evening wind. A moment later, it is answered by a chorus of other calls. Gleaming eyes shine from the bordering forest, as a pack of wolves begin to step forward, their haunches low and poised for attack. A deep, guttural growling resounds from within the burrow, and a moment later, a dark, canine figure emerges and snaps its jaws. Its fangs and black coat are matted with blood, and its eyes glow red.
Vukodlak, NE Large undead
This feral, black-furred creature combines the features of a wolf and those of a horse, with a fanged muzzle and glowing red eyes.
Vukodlaks spawn from the malignant spirits of powerful, intelligent, wolf like creatures such as worgs, winter wolves, or werewolves. Often they arise from such creatures that—through desperation or depravity—fed on undead flesh or drank the blood of a vampiric creature. Their blackened souls arise after death, twisting their bodies into monstrous shapes. Like vampires, vukodlaks share an insatiable thirst for blood.
Vukodlaks measure 8 feet long and 6 feet tall at the shoulder, and they weigh 1,000 pounds. A vukodlak typically walks on all fours, and from a distance can easily be mistaken for a large, shaggy horse. However, it has a distinct wolf like muzzle filled with sharp canine teeth, as well as other wolfish features. Vukodlaks possess monstrous strength, making them ideal mounts for powerful undead masters or other evil creatures. While serving as mounts, they keep to all fours, and might easily be mistaken for worgs or great fanged horses. Masters seeking to control vukodlaks find the most success relying on fear and intimidation, as well as providing a constant source of blood for the creature to feed upon. Vukodlaks share a natural kinship with vampires and often serve them willingly.

Wolf, N Medium animal
This powerful canine watches its prey with piercing yellow eyes, darting its tongue across sharp white teeth.
If you really have a question about them, ask.
“You trespass upon my territory,” the black-furred creature says. “Your smell is foreign to me. It offends me to my core. With a pack of your size, I doubt you mean to join mine, which leaves me to believe you mean to usurp me. Or you are simply foolish enough to have wandered into the wrong place. Either way, we shall make an example of you.” As the beast bares its teeth and its hackles rise, a lone wolf leaps forward from the pack.
“Riverfang, can you not see they are the blessed of the Silver Dancer?” she warns. “An attack on them would bring the pack great misfortune. Surely you have not forgotten that.”
The one called Riverfang snaps his head toward the wolf and growls at her. “Silence, Windcaller! With my return, I now lead this pack. Mind your words, or they may be your last.”
Windcaller raises her head and narrows her yellow eyes. “You come back to us tainted and foul! You’re a mere shadow of the leader you once were. We will not suffer under your tyranny a moment longer. I call for a Challenge of the Blood!”
Hushed murmurs pass through the rest of the pack as the wolves shift uncomfortably where they stand.
“Think long and hard on this, kinsbound,” Riverfang growls to the group. “Casting such disrespect at the behest of this whelp will cost you greatly. The decision is yours. Careful what you choose.”
While Riverfang paces in front of the rest of the pack in an attempt to cow them into inaction, Windcaller bounds up to you with a look of urgency.
“Blessed Ones of the Silver Dancer, please lend us your favor,” Windcaller says in a hushed voice. “Riverfang rose from the Long Hunt to lead again, but he came back with the stench of his grave still on him. He was once a great warrior and a good leader, but little of his heart remains inside that husk. I know my kinsbound wish to be free from him, but most are too scared to move against him. A Challenge of the Blood can be called when the pack no longer finds a leader fit to lead. It is resolved in one of two ways; either the pack must stand united against the leader to exile him; or the leader must be challenged to a one-on-one duel to the death.”
Windcaller bows her head and closes her eyes for a moment. “If I must fight Riverfang on my own, so be it. But I know my strength does not match his. It is my hope to convince the others to stand against him and cast him out. Would you help me persuade them?”
You have several courses of action to resolve the Challenge of the Blood: you can attempt to influence members of the pack to stand with Windcaller, one of you can opt to duel Riverfang one-on-one, or you can do nothing and leave Windcaller to her fate.
There are five choices here, first to three votes we continue with.
1. Influencing the Pack: skill checks
2. One-on-One Challenge: one volunteer to fight Riverfang alone.
3. Attack Riverfang as a group
4. Leave Windcaller to Her Fate
5. Sneak Away
