When McKieg sees a second giant crab join the first, he swings his axe at the monster, but he cracks the stone walls instead. Blast it, man! Should have been easy to hit, squeezing into that tight spot like it is!

When the red crab moves in for the kill, the dwarf seizes the opportunity to deliver another powerful blow to the creature.

Then McKieg steps back, in front of Luurg, and swings his axe again at Red Lobster.

(If red was killed earlier by the AoO, then McKieg will stay where he was, in front of Adyr, drop his axe and use his cold iron dagger as a sacred weapon against blue, +6 to hit and d8+6 damage.


Season of Ghosts

Red was the one suffering the penalty for squeezing~

As Blue comes charging up McKieg takes a swing at the thing but misses, his axe cracking against the nearby wall. When Red moves in McKieg takes another swing, this time having better luck as he slices off a grabby claw!

Luurg then starts to move in for the kill but realizes that Red looks mightily hurt; banking on McKieg being able to handle it from here, he instead jabs his new spear at Blue! Blue shrieks in agony as the spear pieces its tough exoskeleton, doing just a little more damage than usual.

McKieg then takes another swing at Red and cleaves the lobster's head clean off its...shoulders? Neck? Something like that.

Adjusted the target order just to make things a little easier & save some time.

Though pained and enraged by Luurg's attack Blue can't reach him, so he turns his attention to the next best target - McKieg.

Claw vs. McKieg: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34

Quick as a flash Blue shoots out a mighty claw and snaps it closed around McKieg, easily hefting the dwarf and delivering him to his nasty mass of mouth-tentacles. As McKieg feels a stinging, tingling sensation beginning to spread over his body it occurs to him that there are just way too many grabby things living on - and under - Nal-Kashel.

McKieg, please make a DC 19 Fort or be paralyzed for 6 rounds.

With one target out of the way the creature also lashes out at Adyr with his other claw, for good measure. But does he hit the right one?

Grappled in the giant lobster's claw, a crushed and bleeding McKieg drops his axe and draws his cold iron dagger. He utters a swift prayer, "Yuelral the Wise, sanctify this blade as a sacred weapon."

He thrusts his dagger at the lobster, but the creature's hardened shell deflects the weapon.

Behind the Scenes:

Wadi points at Blue and snaps his fingers, causing the creature to burst into flame...and to continue to burn! Queen Rainbowprances continues trying to batter Blue with angry hooves but even with its guard lowered a little thanks to tangling with McKieg, the celestial horse can't quite manage to land a solid blow.

Deciding to take a risk Sheela vanishes from sight for just a moment and darts through the melee, remaining blissfully undetected and unmolested as she does.

Luurg tries to come to McKieg's rescue as he jabs New Spear at the beast but with McKieg actually in the way somewhat, it's harder than usual to land a blow - even with the creature being as big as it is. But Tiffany fares better as she flings her net and just manages to land it atop Blue's head and shoulders!

There's a lot going on but Adyr tries to return the favor and strikes back at Blue, but he's also unable to strike the creature. McKieg doesn't fare much better, though he's able to fight off the paralytic secretions from the thing's tentacles...for the moment, anyway.

While Blue's mandibles chew away on the dwarf morsel he's got stashed in his tentacles...

Mandible Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Also need another DC 19 Fort from McKieg; the ability isn't listed as a poison effect even though it's sure flavored as one.

...it continues to flail its claw-hands at the only targets within reach, which are Adyr and Queen Rainbowprances!

There comes a time in every med'cin man's life where he's gotta choose between applying the healing stick and applying the beat stick. This is the time to apply the beat stick. While he's concerned for half mang, Luurg is also happy to see much more of the creature's chest now that McKieg has fallen to the ground. He jabs New Spear with great killing power at that chest plate.

Regaining consciousness, McKieg looks up at... no one, and with a swift flick of his wrist releases his wand of cure light wounds from its spring-loaded sheath and activates it.

Season of Ghosts

To the group's horror, McKieg goes limp in the creature's grasp as its mandibles cheerfully chew away on the captive dwarf. Thinking the dwarf dead, the creature releases him from his tentacles and McKieg falls to the floor with a *thud* and a *clang*.

Luurg hauls off and delivers a mighty, powerful blow with New Spear, a blow that would surely have felled a lesser beast! Blue screeches in agony and thick, black blood flows freely from the wound left by the spear...but the creature doesn't fall.

Still invisible, Sheela draws her healing wand and manages to activate it as she taps the unconscious dwarf, stopping his bleeding and returning him to consciousness! Queen Rainbowprances keeps flailing away at Blue but still can't seem to hit him.

With McKieg now somewhat out of harm's way Wadi takes advantage of the situation to shoot a small ray of fire which only just misses the mark and scorches the nearby wall instead.

On the floor, McKieg's eyes flutter open. Realizing that he seems to have been granted a reprieve from death for the moment, he activates his spring-loaded wrist sheath and further heals himself with his own wand.

"Oh no! McKieg!" Tiffany looks at the fallen dwarf. "Not cool, nope! Not cool at all! Just for that, I'm taking out the big guns! We're about to dine on some snow crab, friends!" The grippli winds up a snowball and lobs it at the crab.

As Adyr channels a small bit of positive energy and further strengthens his dwarven companion Tiffany decides that enough is enough. She conjures a snowball, of all things, and flings it mightily at Blue...

*SPLAT!*

The snowball splatters with chilling force across the creature's face! It staggers a step or two back and collapses to the ground, still at last.

Luurg pulls out New Spear from the frosty crab corpse then helps half mang to his feet with a meaty handshake. "Dem tings no gud, Luurg 'member, Luurg 'member. We fix you up real gud den we go!"

Once McKieg is all fixed up Luurg takes the opportunity to finish off the two crabs with a well placed stick from New Spear then peaks around the corner to see just what they're dealing with.

Sheela reappears and pets Queen Rainbowprances. "Thanks for coming back. I know you were mad at me that one time. But it was quite a party. And that duke was... well, he was very well trained." She giggles and then frowns as Queen Rainbowprances runs off. "Oh come on! His wife chased me out of town!"

She sighs. "Oh well. Onward."

Wadi stares at Sheela for a moment...She can't be serious about that! I would have heard something of this from the other gossip-mongers I spend time with. His gaze lingers over her for a moment before he abruptly shrugs. I think the...other rumors I have heard MUST be all true...

Season of Ghosts

Pleased to have dispatched the two grabby lobster-things with marginally less trouble than last time, everyone takes a moment to mend wounds and recenter themselves before pressing on. Luurg is the first to brave seeing what's around the corner and down the passage to the right...which isn't really much.

The domed room smells horrible - probably because of the lobster guys -- and a pool of polluted water floods the eastern end of the chamber.

Behind the Scenes:

But wait...Luurg's keen eyes pick out the glint of something shiny in the pool of water! Further inspection, after Luurg and McKieg do their due diligence in looking around for traps or ambushes, reveals the source of the glint to be a fist-sized gem with a brilliant orange hue. It glows with magical power.

He gives up fishing for gems and heads back up front with half mang McKieg. "You tink Luurg big ok? Ok." He asks the Dwarf, not entirely self confident about being challenged by a bigger fire guy.

Season of Ghosts

With the properties of the gem identified and nothing of further interest to be found in this small side chamber you continue onward through the passage. Your path continues on an almost circuitous manner, taking you past another branching passage that once led almost due north but has long since collapsed. From there, the passage continues northeast before slowly starting to curve south once again.

It's at about this point that McKieg and Luurg can see what appears to be another passage or room that leads away to the right.

McKieg:

As you sweep the path ahead for magical auras, the passageway directly in front of and just beyond this branch glows with an aura of abjuration.

Then the dwarf looks at Luurg and nods, indicating he's ready to advance with the half-orc.

Season of Ghosts

Painfully aware that you have no means of dispelling the Alarm that has been placed ahead of you there's little to do but gird your loins and forge ahead. Though there's no audible alarm that you can hear as you move forward you're certain that the spell has been triggered just the same and that someone, or something, is now aware of your presence here in the depths.

While Sheela sends Princess Sparkletrot further down the corridor the rest of you pause long enough to glance down the passage to your right, which leads to another small chamber. The organic structures of this room are badly decayed, exposing the island's dark bedrock beneath, but it otherwise appears to be empty.

Perception (DC 15):

Oh, wait. It's hard to see, but there's a small urn sitting next to the exposed bedrock. Use of Detect Magic reveals that it glows with an aura of conjuration.

Meanwhile, Princess Sparkletrot continues on just past a section of passage that seems to 'pinch' and then continue away towards the northeast. All is quiet, except for the gentle clip-clop of hooves.
