McKieg sighs, unable to determine what sort of enchantment or curse afflicts the villagers or to treat them.
"Their best hope is that we find the source of this magic and deal with it." Hands on his knees, the dwarf squints through his bushy red brows at the rock-hewn staircase they'd just descended.
"Let's go check out another likely spot. We're just burning daylight down here. Shall we try the crystalline dome or the central building next?"

![]() |

Wadi sighs heavily as he looks up at the steep staircase, already dreading the climb. "Yes, I believe you are right. Perhaps we should backtrack here and explore where Tiffany saw the...Archives, you say?" That seems a likely place to find some answers...hopefully."

![]() |

Luurg waves his hand in front of the man, then sticks out his tongue and bares his teeth... nothing. "Yup, deez guys like zombiemen er sumpting. Lez go back. Dat ok Sheelur? Look at sum of dem udder places we passed." He readies to lead the group back up and out towards the archives.

![]() |

"I don't have any magic to fight this kind of control, yet." Sheela frowns. "But you're correct. We need to move on and destroy the source of this trickery."

GM Ladile |

As the realization sinks in that there's not much you can do for the villagers right now you decide to head back the way you came, reasoning that at least they don't seem to be in any immediate danger where they're at right now. Though McKieg suggests investigating one of the nearby locations both Wadi and Luurg vote to head back across the island to the archives, so that's what you do.
You retrace your steps up the steep staircase that hugs the cliff, back up to the ruined city, and then around the rather prominent central building towards the southeastern section of the island. Initially, all continues to be eerily quiet though you still can't shake the feeling of being watched. However, you've not quite reached the edge of the city ruins when the sound of rapidly-approaching footsteps can be heard, accompanied by shrill, panicked cries. A woman breaks from the overgrown ruins ahead, shrieking as three dark shapes bear down on her - shapes that look like flying mats of tangled seaweed, but with toothy maws! The woman abruptly stops, cut off in mid-scream, as the closest creature moans horribly, then drops down and completely engulfs her!
These flying mats of seaweed are cloakers, chaotic aberrations that are know to be mysterious and paranoid creatures!
For every 5 that you beat the DC, you may learn one piece of information from this list.

Luurg's little ears perk up and his eyes narrow as the woman screams bounce across the stone ruins "Dat not gud mang! Big Luurg comin' ta help!" He pulls off an ugly fruit that's been on his belt for a while and gobbles it up as he runs forward with Leafy in hand. "What are those creatures? Does anyone know?"
Sensing the poor woman is in grave danger, the warpriest grasps his holy symbol, using the divine focus to cast burst of radiance.
As a brilliant flash of shimmering light erupts and engulfs the three monsters, McKieg follows Luurg.

While Red remains wrapped around the apparently immobilized woman - you notice she doesn't seem to be struggling at all - and sinks its teeth into her arm, Orange and Yellow come flapping towards the rest of you, rising up into the air as they do. Then both of them emit a low, eerie moaning sound that chills you to your very bones!

Wadi manages to evade the effects of the supernatural moaning and, albeit regretfully, turns his attention to the closer of the flying creatures. Pointing a finger up at the beast he summons his arcane energies and soon it feels the licking of flames surrounding its body!
Cast Spontaneous Combustion on Yellow. The target takes 3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 6) = 15 points of fire damage and catches on fire. A successful Fortitude save DC 16 reduces this damage by half and prevents the target from catching on fire. Each round on your turn, a burning target can attempt a new save to extinguish the flames (DC equal to the DC of the spell); otherwise it takes another 1d6 fire damage.

Though Wadi and McKieg are able to stave off the fear that threatens to consume them Luurg isn't quite so fortunate. The massive half-orc bolts, hip-checking McKieg as he darts by and causing his axe swing to miss. On the bright side, at least he's not blocking anyone's view of the battle now!

Though injured Red seems content to continue biting at the woman in its clutches while Orange utters another eerie moan, this one a bit different in pitch than the previous one. Everyone except for Luurg feels the effects of Adyr's oratory diminish and fade, as though being canceled out somehow.
Everyone in a 60 ft. radius of Orange takes a -2 penalty to attack & damage rolls, so it basically cancels out most of Adyr's oratory. No save on this one.
Yellow also flutters a little closer to the group and makes a rather high-pitched, ghostly sort of moan that immediately sets Wadi, Tiffany, and Adyr's stomachs to churning violently!

Sheela finishes summoning her friend Aerie, who pops up behind Red and immediately gets to work pummeling the strange beast. An airy fist slams into Red's hide - though not very strongly - and both Red and the engulfed woman seem to bruise slightly in response to the attack. The brave commander then unleashes a burst of glitter...
Redirecting is fine but Glitterdust is a 10 ft. radius burst so you can't quite tag Yellow and Orange at the same time. Decide which one you want and we'll go from there.
Meanwhile Luurg continues to flee while Wadi and Tiffany manage to shrug off the strange nausea induced by Yellow's moaning.
Just keep track of your movement for when you start to head back, Luurg.
Though he personally feels that the entrapped woman's life is a lost cause Wadi turns his focus back to Red and blasts it with a missile barrage. Once more the missile seem to inflict damage to both Red and its prey...but the group's efforts finally pay off as Red unfurls from the woman with an angry shriek! She remains frozen in place and appears heavily injured but at least she's alive - for now.
Now that Red has released its prey McKieg decides to take no chances and steps forward to try and strike it down! Still blinded by the dwarf's spell Red is wide open and vulnerable to the incoming axe strike which sinks deeply into its flesh! Blood flows freely from Red's many wounds and it now seems close to death...
Red is still Blinded but no longer suffers from the Grappled condition.

Once a creature has been affected by laughing touch, it is immune to its effects for 24 hours. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.
I'm hoping a laughing creature can't grapple.

As Sheela finds herself engulfed by Yellow Aerie tries to swoop to her defense, attempting to pummel the creature like a small child might try to pummel someone for picking on their big brother or sister. Sheela remains surprisingly calm for being caught in Yellow's clutches, attempting to use one of her innate powers to force the creature to begin laughing. Sadly this proves harder to do than expected and she can't quite get her arms free to actually touch Yellow.
Meanwhile Luurg finally finds himself free of the strange panic that had overcome him and realizes that Sheela is in a bind, quite literally. Activating his powers of flight he zips back to the fray like a bat butterfly out of hell, ready to make the creatures pay for messing with his team!

*CRACK-BOOM*
The air smells of ozone and cooked flesh. Much of Yellow's skin and body are now blackened and burnt by the lightning but it still feebly clings to Sheela...who also seems to be smoking a bit, though she weathered the blast much better than her attacker.
Yellow takes 20 damage, Sheela only takes 10.
