Between only rolling above a 10 like once during a whole starship encounter and taking 2 critical hits IN THE SAME ROUND, I have to say, this might be the worst streak of bad luck I've ever had.

I did go well, for the party. ; p
Party of 6, low-tier with one 3rd level PC. Starship boons adding speed and poor Initiative rolls by the Susumu's Sword kept prevented use of the battering ram beyond a single occasion. Having learned of the ramming prow with their skill checks, they had two engineers on the ship, one dedicated to boosting the engines each round.
The party was actually kind of annoyed that they couldn't just fly past the enemy ship to the planet. I reminded them that Arvin had suggested a "bloodless fight" as a display of power and that the Gideron ship would likely follow them to the colony and bombard it from space, so they remained to fight and nearly disabled the ship. This was a first starship combat for a couple of the players, so this section went long.
They then made very short work of the goblins, who also had a low Initiative. This, I didn't mind as it helped make up some lost time.
Like we did, they pretty much headed straight for the room with the ja noi. The ja noi got had actually rolled a good hit on a PC, until I noticed the tactics kept it from attacking the first round. This gave a fast PC time with jump jets the chance to close with the ja noi and keep him occupied.
Once the tashtari were taken care of, the battle ended quickly.
I made a second tactics error with another threat, originally revealing them with the intent to use hit-and-run tactics on the party among the corridors. I, then, realized that their dulled mental faculties did not allow for the more nuanced strategy I had been formulating, so I just had them attack head on.
After the starship combat, the spiders was certainly the longest battle.
They also said they had fun, and I had the ja noi monologue-ing, at least, before his demise (I had even suggested that they might want to knock him out, but they were determined to bring lethal force to bear) so it was a good time by all.

re. Prone and ranged combat, I’ve been thinking about an Ysoki and Barricade
Since you can fire and drop prone as free behind your barricade and get full cover the kip up as a swift...
I imagine that could be fun
I use Barricade to avoid AoOs in melee
Sonce Barricade gives cover and cover prevents AoOs so you can fire point blank w/o provoking...

![]() |

Oooo nice idea. In theory could work with a spellcaster as well to avoid AoO in melee.

![]() |

Oh, didn't think of Casting!
Yes, that'd work.
As I said, I had taken for a ranged fighter, and used it to gain a bit of AC in fights.
Then I got boxed in a corner... and realized that since "The barricade grants partial cover against attacks with line of effect that pass through it. " and "If you have cover relative to an enemy, it can’t make an attack of opportunity against you." you can shoot w/o AoO for a couple rounds at least.
Would work the same for a caster... good idea.

![]() |

Kip up is amazing, as a racial trait or the feat. The one think to remember is that it is a swift action to fall prone, so you can't do both in the same round. Starfinder has a lot more competition for those swift actions.

Just a heads up. I've been up for almost 24hrs now. Grandmother in the hospital and decision has been made to put her on hospice.
I'll try to post when my turn comes up but in case I'm slow, feel free to bot me. I'd attack yellow with gauntlet if it's still up. If not I'd move towards T1 side of red.
Would stay in graviton mode.

![]() |

With that done, get ready for the boss fight!
joking
Sorry for having done the turn by turn and ended up wasting time, but at the start of the fight I thought it would be tough, and wanted to make sure things went point by point.
Then, once started, I saw the swoop hammer was unwieldy and realized it was not going to be a problem for you (even more so with the fact that it can't make AoOs! Which I'd forgotten, as you saw).
I don't know why they put "tough" adversaries and then gimp them to make the fights pointless, but so be it.
Ours is not to reason why...

Forgot this 1/2 way through (so the flying makes sense even with possible low ceiling):
over the ages, making the scenarios it plays out more elaborate with every iteration. The puppets and floor make the raised western portion of the room difficult terrain.
So no charge from THE Umbral Dawn, and probably no attack that quick from "Jack"... doesn't change much anyhow, might have taken lasted 1 or 2 rounds more max', and taken 1 more of you out , but that's max'.
So, didn't spoil your victory!

No worries GM SFS.
Sorry for the delays I caused in this. My grandmother was hospitalized shortly after we started and was going downhill fast...to the point we were making funeral arrangements.
However, as of yesterday...seems she's going to make a full recovery! :-)
Thank you for running!

Happy to hear about your grandmother... hope you have more nice time with her!

Jack: Check out: --this--.
The 1st option lets you regain all your SP for 0 RP, meaning you still have 1 RP in case you go down, and can stabilize.
Okay, I got confused as to which was which: the pins only give the bonus to Culture.
Do you have a Starfinder Player Character Folio?
If so you slot the corresponding Promotional Boon (Record Keeper) and:
You can use this boon, once per session, in one of two ways. The first option is to reduce the Resolve Point cost of resting to regain Stamina by 1 (down to 0 RP). The second option is to reduce the DC of any single starship combat check (including a gunnery check) by 4; this decision must be made before making the check.
Remember, all, that you can slot Promotional boons on Pre-Gens too.

Back in Absalom station, Kevin, the tired accounting assistant, sighs as the skittermanders race around helping him to try a new better improved filing system.
"CUT IT OUT!"
The skittermanders comply, and start cutting the files to bits...
Kevin looks through what's left, and tries to piece together File UGL36.
Reporting will be to UGL - Uchronies Games Lodge (the name of my local gaming shop, here, in Paris, France) - my 36th game DMed.
I would like to ask the following:
Xo' ; Spanner ; Harrowed Jack: you have no Day Job credits, correct?
Do you need any other Downtime (boon related) activity recorded?
THE Umbral Dawn ; Darox: can you make your Day Job rolls, to tell me how many credits you get (for go-go dancing, and writing the new Society website blurb?).
Spanner: sorry if I asked this before, but, seeing (again?) that you are a -701: did you get your Welcome to Starfinder boon?
ALL: please tell me if anyone needs something tracked on their shoot (like for races boons or whatever).

![]() |

It looks like I never got the chronicle sheet for the Welcome to Starfinder Boon. I did choose the Elixer of Renewal, though.
No Day Job for Spanner.

![]() |

I'll make out a Welcome boon then.

![]() |

No day job. I do have the skittermander boon though.
You want me to mark it? Or how do you want to handle it with PbP?

![]() |

Not sure how it's supposed to be done, so I'll let you mark whatever you want, and I'll just add a note re. +1 skittermander boon.

![]() |

How dare you you refer to THE Umbral Dawn's art as go-go dancing! THE Umbral Dawn is a member of Triaxus's greatest and most elite ballet company, the Golden Orchid School of Battle Flowers.
Profession-Dancer: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
I am also working on that Skittermander boon too.

![]() |

The tips flow in as Battle Flower THE Umbral Dawn dances!
only Dariox's Day Job roll missing now

![]() |

Profession (writer): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
I am also working towards the skittermander boon.

For some reason, I forgot that there was still more to this adventure and I wasn't seeing new messages in the Gameplay tab. Sorry about that! I'm back now.

Since I was reading up on Cover & Flanking & Threatening, I wanted to ask something that I've been wondering for a while, as well as something I just now realized:
• The CRB (p. 253/254) tells you what cover is.
Then states that when you have cover you get no AoOs.
Then, below, goes on to explain what types of cover there are (soft, partial, improved...).
So, my take on this is that the "no AoOs w. cover" applies to all kinds of cover (cover in general).
Because it comes first, as a general rule, before stating which types of cover there are. And because it does not specify that some types of cover do not block AoOs (and they would have, since Improved Cover has to block AoOs so they would have said which cover does or does not if they wanted to allow some to block and others not to).
Just asking because I've been asked this, mainly, I think, because of Pathfinder rules (which have specific things for various types of cover
Do you have the same take on this?
• re. Flanking: I re-read the rules, and found nothing at all other than do you flank or not depending on where you are positioned, and that you must threaten (which cover does not block). So cover seems to do nothing re. flanking (other than AC etc. as usual).
The thing I just realized:
Soft Cover (p. 254 CRB)
Creatures, even enemies, between you and the source of an effect provide you with cover against ranged attacks, giving you a +4 bonus to AC. However, soft cover provides no bonus to Reflex saves, nor does soft cover allow you to attempt a Stealth check.
Other than the depressing though that it does not help to Stealth... what does the part provide you with cover against ranged attacks, giving you a +4 bonus to AC mean to you guys?
I had not picked up on that, but it seems to me that it does not apply to Melee.Correct?
So that w. reach, you can hit through Soft Cover w/o -4 to hit (well, +4 AC to enemy)?
(I know I, probably like a lot of people, have Pathfinder automatisms in place, so I thought it was -4 to hit).
What do you think?

It looks to me like your reading is correct! AOO not allowed regardless of type of cover.
And soft cover does not give an AC bonus when attacked in melee.

Any playing w. these fine characters in Outpost II?

![]() |

Nope, no plans to play this character during Outpost II.

![]() |

We should be finished anyhow, and I'll make sure that those who are playing can.

![]() |

Xochitl has no plans till April for a local Con.

![]() |

We have a few more days before Outpost, so can people, if possible, try to post at least once daily (a morning & evening post or such would be great) so that we can finish it up.
I prepared chronicle sheets already to get them out right away so people can get into their Outpost games... if all goes well!

![]() |

NOBODY DIED! YAY!
(I thought we were gonna lose "Jack"... but half-dead half-orcs cannot die!).
I just posted the ---> chronicle sheets <--- (@Spanner: you have two, your sheet + the 701) .
You do not get the Victory over Authority Boon, and lose some credits (for the spaceship combat).
All the rest is fine.
Tell me if you have problems with your sheet and I'll try to amend it a.s.a.p..
Can you just give me an "okay" post, each of you, that way I can close the game down once I know all are good w. their chronicles.
Thanks a lot for playing with me and putting up with my game mastering...
Be safe and happy all, and roll high (except when you are DMing).
Hope to see you around, maybe in Outpost 2!

![]() |

And... reported!
(no problems: all names and factions came up as noted by you when putting in your numbers)
It went under my # 83,105 UGL - Uchronies Game Lodge (which is the local gaming store where we run open/public tabletop PFS/SFS games here in Paris, France).

![]() |

Just FYI, for future games, you could also report PBP games under the online support program to get boon rewards.

Chronicle looks good and thank you for running the game! And thanks to my fellow players as well!

Yes, I will be using that for the next ones, thanks!

Everything on the chronicle looks good.
Thank you for GMing. This was a pretty tough scenario. There was kind of a perfect storm of conditions to make this deadly; I think we just barely qualified for the high tier; we were plagued by a streak of bad die rolls in parts; and on top of everything else this scenario seems to genuinely have some tougher stuff in it then I've seen.

Chronicle looks good!
Great game, all! I enjoyed this group of "personalities".
Thanks all for helping to keep Jack, er, alive!
I look forward to sharing a table with each of you in the future!

Okay!
So that's all of you... I'll close it down in the next day.
