Sharing hidden info.

Once its confident no other information is available, AMOSU turns to the group, "I believe we have located our comrades. We should notify VC Arvin of the coordinates and of the pirate vessel."

Devil We Know | Burden of Envy | B12 Somewhere Below (GM School)

Upon receiving word from the party, Venture-Captain Arvin is grateful for the news you provide and is eager to get started on the next step of the quest to find the crew of the Unbounded Wayfarer.

The coordinates of the downed Starfinder vessel correspond to a planet in the Vast, called Ulmarid. Your orders are to leave the Endless Threnody and return to Absalom Station while the Society researches the planet Ulmarid and how best to approach it. In addition with the communique, Arvin has included an alphanumeric sequence with a map of the bridge, which highlights a small panel about four feet to port of the captain's chair.

If you inspect the area of the ship highlighted on the map of the bridge:
You find a concealed panel with a small touch screen.

If you type the alphanumeric code onto the screen:

Spoiler:
The concealed compartment within the Loreseeker opens up, revealing a variety of delicacies within that are suitable to most palates, such as sticks of candied meats. Also within the compartment is a hot-plate and a chilled container holding a greenish concoction--it is chundma (which everyone knows should only be eaten when its piping hot)!

“I know this mission isn’t yet complete,” a holographic image of Arvin appears to explain, “but you’ve earned the right to celebrate a bit on your return trip. I asked the quartermaster to include a few delicacies so you can enjoy being alive—after an encounter with necromancy.”

This Quest Doth Thusly Endeth.

Commencing Quest the Next

After your return to Absalom Station, you are once again called upon by Venture-Captain Arvin to continue the search for the missing Starfinders of the ill-fated Unbounded Wayfarer. You are assigned to the Starfinder vessel, Odyssey, and sent to the planet Ulmarid.

The Odyssey, after a considerable amount of travel time, leaves the Drift and approaches the system containing the coordinates for the planet Ulmarid.

Picture and stats for Odyssey have been posted in Slides.

Upon arrival in the system, an automated message activates. Venture-Captain Arvin’s pre-recorded hologram stands on the bridge of the Odyssey, his hands clasped behind his back.

“Hopefully your journey was uneventful. Based on your previous mission, we’ve obtained information about the planet of Ulmarid. The desert world has breathable atmosphere but is devoid of intelligent ivilization. A cloud of asteroids—leftovers from a collision of the lanet’s moons long ago—surrounds the planet, so you must carefully navigate the Odyssey to the surface to find the crashed Unbounded Wayfarer."

“Be sure to bring the Starfinder insignias with you." the holographic Arvin continues, "They will be critical in recovering the information the Starfinders left behind. If you can recover any of the lost Starfinders—alive or dead—please do so as well. Good luck.”

Any PC(s) acting as science officer(s) may scan the planet with a successful Computers check.

Computers (DC 15+):
Ulmarid is a desert planet wracked with sudden and ferocious storms of poisons crystals that scour the surface. A variety of seemingly unintelligent creatures inhabit the planet’s surface as well as subterranean tunnels. A cloud of tumbling asteroids surrounds the planet—filling its upper atmosphere---presumably the result of the planet’s two enormous moons having collided long ago. This makes approaching the planet with large ships difficult.

Traversing the asteroid field down to the planet requires a successful Piloting check made by the acting pilot.

The acting captain may attempt a DC 10 Piloting (DC 10), Diplomacy(DC 17), or Intimidate (DC 17) to assist, encourage, or place demands on the pilot; a successful check provides a +2 bonus to the pilot’s Piloting check.

Any PC(s) acting as science officer(s) may scan the asteroid field to identify and avoid potential collisions with a successful Computers check (DC 15); each successful check provides a +2 bonus to the pilot’s Piloting check.

Piloting (DC <15):
The Odyssey sustains damage. Damage: 3d4 ⇒ (4, 4, 2) = 10 Facing (1 forward, 2 starboard, 3 aft, 4 port): 1d4 ⇒ 1

Since we ended a quest, do we get XP and Fame like last time? I'm perilously close to 2nd level... If so, are we allow to level mid-adventure set?

AMSOSU is slightly better suited to science officer (+9) than pilot (+8), but can do either. Let me know what rolls the team would like him to make.

I apologize for the ambiguity. All XP, Fame, credits, etc. will be rewarded a single time--once all three quests are concluded and the chronicle sheet is issued. There is no leveling up between quests (which is consistent with the fact that the quests can only be played by level 1 PCs).

No starship combat in this quest. So it makes sense for multiple PCs to man the science stations if they wish. No need for Gunnery this quest and only 1 captain and 1 pilot allowed at a time.

Valen, if you'll allow it I'll access the database and then pilot.

If I can access the database:
Prior to the launch sequence, AMOSU accesses the ship's planetary database.

Computers: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

As the information scrolls across the screen AMOSU reads it aloud.

Once all pre-launch systems have been reviewed AMOSU takes the pilot's seat. It utters a short prayer to Triune as it completes the final preparations. As the ship enters the asteroid field it addresses the crew, "It would be wise to activate any and all safety protocols, I shall endeavor to guide us safely through."

Pilot: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Surprising even itself, AMOSU guides the ship through the asteroids with little to no damage to the ship.

Devil We Know | Burden of Envy | B12 Somewhere Below (GM School)

@ AMOSU - Yes, you can access both database and pilot.

The android accesses the database to obtain some information regarding what the party is likely to encounter on the surface of Ulmarid, before expertly navigating the asteroids that surround the planet.

Tracking the distress beacon emanating from the Unbounded Wayfarer crash site makes locating the ship easy. However, the crash site is amid dunes too soft to safely bear the Odyssey’s weight, and the safest place to set down is about a half-hour’s walk away.

As you disembark from an undamaged Odyssey, you find that the surface of Ulmarid is a wind-scoured desert with jagged protrusions of rock thrusting up through the sand. The air has a harsh tang, like burning metal.

About fifteen minutes after you begin your trek to the crash site over barren dunes and swathes of sand, you notice that the once clear sky appear to be changing color rapidly. You realize, rather quickly, that the area you occupy is about to overtaken by a storm! With insufficient time to return to the Odyssey and no natural shelter to be found, you are forced to act quickly.

Each PC may attempt a Survival check.

Survival (DC 15+):
Before the storm overtakes you, you are able to identify the storm as one that produces unusual, airborne crystal formations that are poisonous. You gain a +4 bonus to your saving throws during the storm.

If the result of the check exceeds 17, then you may designate one ally to gain a +4 bonus to your saving throws during the storm.

If the result of the check exceeds 19, then you may designate two allies to gain a +4 bonus to your saving throws during the storm.

If the result of the check exceeds 21, then you may designate three allies to gain a +4 bonus to your saving throws during the storm.

If your result exceeds check exceeds 23, then you may designate four allies to gain a +4 bonus to your saving throws during the storm.

Does my Android bonus v. poison work for the storm? Do I need to make a roll to know?

Devil We Know | Burden of Envy | B12 Somewhere Below (GM School)

As the storm engulfs your location, pockets of particulates within the atmosphere around you rapidly condense into dense clusters of knife-like crystals that rain upon you.

The storm lasts for three rounds. Please provide a total of three Reflex saves (DC 12) for each PC (one for each round).

@ Doctor Buse Clan-Wahi - You and a PC that you designate receive a +4 bonus to these Reflex saves.

@ AMOSU - As an android, your racial bonus does not apply to these Reflex saves.

PCs that fail one of the Reflex saves:
Some of the sharp, falling shards of crystal slash into you.

You take damage to stamina points in the amount of: 1d6 ⇒ 2
You must make a Fortitude save (DC 10) or be fatigued.

If you take one of the bulbs provided by the ysoki in the Vat Garden before attempting this save:

Spoiler:
You find the bulb to be crunchy and bland. You gain a +4 bonus to your Fortitude saves.

@ Doctor Buse Clan-Wahi - You and the PC that you designated receive a +4 bonus to these Fortitude saves.

@ AMOSU - As an android, your racial bonus applies for these Fortitude saves.

If you failed two Reflex saves, you must make a second Fortitude save (DC 10) or be fatigued. In addition, you take additional damage to stamina points in the amount of: 1d6 ⇒ 5.

If you failed all three Reflex saves, you must make a third Fortitude save (DC 10) or be fatigued. In addition, you take still more additional damage to stamina points in the amount of: 1d6 ⇒ 2.

If the party decides to rest:
You find that you have time as there seems to be no life-forms on the surface of the planet to disrupt your rest.
PCs may rest. Then place your token in the "Start" area on the Map denoted by the green broken outline.

Once you resume your travels, it is not long before you see what appears to be an object sticking out of the sands ahead at, what your sensors indicate, should be the crash site.

Each PC should then give me a Perception check and an Initiative check.

If the party decides to NOT to rest:

Suddenly, the sand beneath your feet begins to give way as the ground trembles as a long, monstrous creature erupts from the sands between you. Light glistens off of the creatures’s crystal carapace, reflected from the scorching desert sun, as remnants of the sound that once contained it now cascade off the towering beast like tiny waterfalls.

Yet, the most fearsome feature of this monster, at least of those portions of which are now above ground, are its enormous mandibles, which emit a continuous buzzing-like sound as they energetically thrum with anticipation.

Location of creature now on Map

Mysticism (DC 13+):

This creature is a skreebara, a 14-foot-long burrowing beast with six powerful legs. Its carapace is made of thick reflective crystal and it bears enormous mandibles that thrum with sonic energy. The tough, overlapping crystals that make up its carapace are valuable and fetch a sizeable sum of credits if properly harvested. If sufficiently desperate or frustrated, a skreebara may let loose a line of sonic energy, but it can only do so once approximately every six hours.
Sonic Screech (Su) As a standard action, a skreebara can unleash a 30-foot line of sonic energy. Creatures in the line each take 4d4 sonic damage (Reflex DC 12 half). Once a skreebara uses this attack, it must wait 6 hours before using it again, and during this time period, its bite attack does not inflict any additional sonic damage. As a result, a skreebara does not use this ability unless it is desperate or frustrated.

The acidic shield of the Besmaran vanguard slams against the skreebara--portions of its crystalline carapace begin to sizzle in the hot sun.

The gigantic creature returns the favor by turning its thrumming mandibles on the human.

Melee (bite) v. KAC: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Damage (S) + So: 1d6 + 3 + 1d3 ⇒ (5) + 3 + (3) = 11

The vibrating jaws clamp hard against the Starfinder.

Posting now, as I won't get to again until much later this evening.

AMOSU is taken back a step as the creature bursts from the sand in the midst of its companions. bought back to the situation by Pangea's shout, "Skreebara? Intriguing... Adding to data files - indigenous predator, highly aggressive, use of sonics for burrowing and hunting..."

AMOSU readies its Pulsecaster and fires on the creature.

Ukigashk growls loudly, "Watch yourselves!"

He then draws his sword at swings at the Skreebara, the blade emitting it's eerie black glow as it swings. The swing misses as the creature repositions from it's lunge at Pangea.

Entropic Strike: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7 Skreebara Flanked, but still missed :(

The android manages to fire an energy bolt past the skreebara's crystalline carapace. The vesk, however, fails to connect with the gigantic beast before him.

What's the other object on the map, lower right side?

Oops, I thought I had mentioned it.

Beyond the threatening form of the skreebara, a piece of the wreck half buried in the sand appears to contain the Unbounded Wayfarer’s antipersonnel weapon, a tactical X-gen gun. The reloading mechanism of the heavy weapon looks damaged, but it otherwise appears as though it may still be operational. Affixed to a heavy section of fractured hull and partially covered in sand, it looks as though it cannot be readily moved.

Her skin hardened, the Besmaran woman's shield deflects off of the skreebara's thick carapace.

Buse loads a serum into her glove as she rushes over. Only as far as D'Gavin by the time it is ready, she uses it on him. The air around the half-elf is filled with a foul odor, fortunately one that he can't smell.

Enemies have a -2 to hit D'Gavin for 2 rounds (this is a poison effect).

D'Gavin winces as Dr Buse injects him. He then back peddles so the creature is less likely to target him as he draws his weapon and fires.

The half-elf's shot just barely manages to penetrate the skreebara's thick carapace.

The enormous creature writhes in pain, but its hunger controls it. Seeing a choice of three potential meals within its reach, it remains and tries to gorge itself on Starfinders.

Hurt and bleeding, Pangea pretends to drop... before bouncing up and jamming her shield, filled with entropic powers, at the beast that fancies her flesh.
But her feet slip in her own blood, and she never manages to lift her shield.
