No objections to using the Aid Token. Only question is why disable the trap if we were able to go around it safely?

![]() |

I second the vote for Neutralize Poison. Also, I will gladly use any wands that I can for anyone at any time, just let me know.

![]() |

Looks like we have some solid votes for the aid token to neutralize poison which is probably good. That will create another success for the Monument district. The district will be claimed and we will move to the next Act tomorrow. Great job, folks. Also, Xukong I dig the RP and descriptive nature of the posts but I too would love an accompanying OOC or Discussion post with the mechanical details.

![]() |

I was hoping that Disabling the trap would help the other tables so they would not have to do the same. I wasn't sure how to role-play the point. I should have explained like I just did. I am sorry for any confusion and/or delay of the game.

![]() |

Honestly, that worked out just fine. We're coming into a weekend and a day or so lull so completing the encounter and moving an Aid Token is great. Awaiting instructions from Redelia.

![]() |

Please understand, I don't mean to cut anybody short on what they need to know; I just didn't know I wasn't being clear enough. I did provide the links that had all the necessary information (although I get in hindsight how that first post on the matter would have been confusing; my mistake).

![]() |

Back on the ground just a short bit ago. Saw that there wasn't anything Zarnel could offer either in the disabling traps or neutralizing poison departments, so good that he wasn't here anyway. Nice job everyone!
@Xukong: Wow I'd never seen those dolls before. It's perfect for my Kuthite dhamphir oracle! In spite of the confusion over it, I'm very glad you got a chance to use it so I could learn about it. Thanks!
Less flying the next few days. Ready when y'all are.

![]() |

No worries, Xukong! Just a tweak, not a major change of behavior required. Yes, glad this all worked out :)

GM Redelia |

A pair of enormous brass doors blocks the way forward.
Numerous plates are missing from the doors’ surface,
exposing complex clusters of gears, sprockets, springs, and
other confusing clockwork innards. Every second a thousand
gears twist, click, and whir. For all its complexity, the doors
seem to be missing any means of being opened.
GMs, please move your players immediately on to Act 4. Please continue to run F2 until the next announcement.

GM Redelia |

Kreighton Shaine paces back and forth in front of the doors for a moment as several Pathfinder agents tinker with the doors’ complex machinery. Satisfied, he steps up on a piece of debris to address the crowd.
"Congratulations to those of you who have survived the dangers of our expedition thus far. Some of your fellow Pathfinders managed to interrogate a demon lurking here. This beast reports that the Throne Room is the domain of one Yealek-Vor, who we have surmised is a kalavakus demon-priest of the Chained Maiden, the ‘Horned One’ our duergar spoke of. He reportedly possesses something called a ‘Key of the Sky’ and is attended by many fellow demons. We’ll have quite a fight on our hands. But first we require those among us with the skills to find a way through this clockwork portal. I imagine some finesse could persuade them to open."
As the elf finishes his declaration, one of the Pathfinder agents cries out in alarm as the doors begin clacking wildly and grind a trapsmith’s tools into tiny shards. The portal shudders and begins violently sloughing off gears and scrap metal that animate and begin attacking the crowd.
"Or force," shouts Kreighton Shaine above the din. "Brute force may be in order!"

Various objects fall off the great door and leap into motion attacking the party!

"These are animated objects, particularly resistant to damage. Can anyone cast grease?"
Reminder to Enora, Las carries a number of alchemical Reagents.
Darkwood
Magnesium
Phosphorus
Quicksilver
Realgar
Saltpeter
Silver
Urea
Spirit of wine

It's probably too late for this, but Enora also has quick study, which lets her swap out prepared spells (e.g., for Grease)
Let's use that pre-loaded crossbow rule we mentioned earlier...
Arin moves forward in a rare attempt to strike first on the machinations.
20', move action
light crossbow attack vs. green: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 hope that hits FF!
cold iron bolt P damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

![]() |

Xukong advances haltingly, and wards itself with its shield wand.

![]() |

Grease is short ranged which would put me ahead of Xukong which I do not have the movement to do and cast plus not the idea place for this character to be haha but magic missile goes through hardness I am pretty sure so that seems like the good option here!
Enora is shocked to see the objects animate. What is this! First demons and now we are being attack by normal objects. Out of habit, the halfling points her powerful staff at the green objects and releases a volley of missiles!
Magic missile damage (Green): 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (2, 3, 1, 1) + 4 = 11
Standard action to cast magic missile from my staff (6/8 charges left)

“Clockwork animations? I had a friend who made these. I hope I get a chance to see her again soon... “
As Zarnel muses on his memory of Chou Wei, he strides forward and draws an ammentum from across his back. Arriving between Xukong and Arin, he throws the weapon with all of his might at the one with the Green gears. “But her's were much nicer. “
Attack : 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Slide 2 I believe. Those Tokens look like Clockwork thingies. And I should clarify, I'm saying Clockwork, but I don't know that's what they technically are. The description of animated gears and metal scraps brings that term to mind.

No, not clockwork, animated objects - but scrap metal, like cruder versions of this.

can't see the map ATM.

A thousand apologies for missing a day, folks. At a conference and time got away from me.
Arin and Zarnel land shots with projectiles although the damage seems to be mitigated by their tough exterior. Enora's magic missiles seem not to affect the creatures at all.
They advance and deliver a slam attack at the heroes in front of them.

Knowledge (Arcana) vis-a-vis ambulatory scrap metal: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
Xukong's sword seems to glow black (if such a thing is even possible) as it tears into one of the scrap-things...
I spend an Arcane point, and still have 2 chill touches remaining.

Enora is clearly upset that her missiles did not work. Nobody told me that they could resist force missiles too! These are pesky little buggers! She moves closer to the action and tries throwing a ball of acid at the blue piece of metal.

Zarnel and Xukong act as two sides of the same coin, light and dark colliding on the animated objects. The green-geared figure is smashed to bits.
Amerel stabs at the orange-geared enemy and finds purchase, although not as much damage as he would normally have expected from such a precise blow.
Enora's acid splash lands but is ignored by the creature, it's layers of metal and cogs near impenetrable. Las Lajas whips his trusty weapon with little luck.
The monsters return in kind and attempt to batter our heroes.

Standing strong at the apex of the battlefront, Zarnel feels pride in the combat prowess of his teammates. Las' whip, Amerel's rapier, and Zukong's shrieking blade. The wound in his own side merely adds to the intensity of the moment, and he focuses on the pain as his sword comes back around onto the animated pile of scrap.

I am really not sure what I have to offer in this combat. With hardness, almost all of my spells are made harmless and feels wasteful for the chance to get a point or two in. My lvl 0 spell has no chance of damaging it. I guess crossbow it is? I am open to suggestions.
Enora is even more upset by her spell hitting and being ineffective. Finish them quick... there is nothing I can do to help.Enora pulls out her crossbow and fires once at the blue piece of metal.

Some energy types might be particularly effective against certain objects, subject to GM discretion.
Something ought to work, Enora; acid splash, if nothing else (and unless they somehow have golem-like Spell Immunity - and they don't appear to - I'm tempted to "call b$+!#%++" on magic missile not working).

![]() |

It's a tough one and I've checked with a few GMs about it. Unless a spell or attack specifically reduces hardness (like an axe for wood) the hardness value is deducted from each damage source. Normally energy damage is then halved for inanimate objects. This object is animated so at least the damage is not halved. I understand this is particularly frustrating but there are options like Aid Another or Enora's ability to swap spells.
Waiting for Amerel and we'll move into the next round.

yeah, this would actually be a decent time to Quick Study into grease or something else. For Arin’s part he’s going to hang out on healing duty.
