Enora sees we have this fight in a good place so she moves and reloads her cross bow. And I thought these would be hard... though I am confused by their presence here.
Move action to move and move action to reload my cross bow.

Xukong is a tornado of blade and cuts the last choker down.
Xukong, and everyone else for that matter, please provide very specific botting instructions for your character. I see you have provided some but I'd like an explicit standard.
With the chokers dispatched you have this statue to contend with.

![]() |

Botting instructions is tricky for a caster but I will add it to the bottom of my character sheet.

Enora has that gut feeling like she is missing something that she should be able to remember... but can't place her finger on it. As she tries to figure it out, she points out a small tome—ancient sheets of vellum between worn leather covers—sits beneath the thing’s tentacles. Well that looks interesting!

![]() |

For Enora, the stats for an Acid Splash would be perfectly acceptable and likely my first choice for you as a GM.

![]() |

As this is PbP, I would hope that we would all get at least 24 hours to respond to a post, in which case I won't need botting. If I do go missing, I authorize Amerel to play my character.

"Ah, I do recognize this creature. They call it the Dweller Below. An evil creature so named by by dwarves from the Darklands. Frequently used to scare dwarven children who misbehave." Las makes a mental image of it in case he decides to use it for one of his silent images.
Las follows Enora's gaze, "Yes....",

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I have been maintaining a 24 hour time limit before botting thus far. Being a multi-table special, these things tend to move quickly and I'd hate for y'all to miss out on action or delay your involvement so I'll be a bit more aggressive but fair. Everyone is doing a great job so far, so I"m not worried :)

![]() |

Just FYI, you can take or leave the book. Then we can move on exploring the district.

![]() |

Enora gladly grabs the book. This is the whole reason she is here. She will read the cover if she can.
Regardless, I think I am ready to continue exploring.

![]() |

Enora reaches for the book and feels a cold, damp, yet invisible tentacle wrap itself around her neck.
Will save, please.

![]() |

*cough* Sucker *cough* If only there was a Rouge to check for possible traps...Oh yeah.
On a serious note, just a reminder, Amerel has: Trap Spotter (10' of trap, free perception check to spot).

![]() |

Ohh I was sure it was a trap, but reading Enora's background, I felt like going for a book was something she would do... maybe she will be a bit more reserved... had learned lesson haha
will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

![]() |

Of course we don't get to directly know, but if that will save is fear-based, and it's within 3m of the last battle, bless provides another +1 there.

![]() |

AAAAARGH site ate my post.
Enora overcomes the evil force with the application of will alone.
The tome—entitled It Crawls in Darkness—you find it is physically intact, yet most of its pages are blank; those with text are scattered at random throughout the book. The tome contains references to the Seer’s, Mines, and Monuments districts of Jormurdun.
In addition, the tome acts as a scroll that contains several spells: Resist Energy, Lesser Restoration.
You continue exploring...
Plaques at the entrance of this space identify it as a shrine to Torag, patron god of the dwarves of Jormurdun. The bas relief carvings on the stone walls are viciously defaced, not by the ravages of time, but by the work of impious vandals. The adamantine anvil-altar is scarred, and ritual instruments are scattered around the floor. Strangely, the glow of fire still pulses from the sacred forge on the west wall.
Map is updated, feel free to move about the space.

Arin looks over at the forge, wondering why it's still burniung.
Has this been used recently? Amerel, do you detect any traps?
Cast guidance on Amerel's trap roll.

After Xukong cuts down the last choker, Zarnel turns an appreciate and admiring eye on his strange ally. "Nicely done, my friend! Your arm and blade are fine servants of that which is Good."
He draws his own wand and heals his wounds as Enora liberates and peruses the tome.

At the entrance to Torag's shrine, he waits for Arin and Amerel to report if they sense anything untoward. Before he enters Torag's sacred space, he gives grace to Vildeis. "See No Evil, Abide No Evil," he says as his left hand moves across his eyes and breast.

Amerel approaches the forge and is about at the anvil when he notices faint faces dancing in the flames of the forge.
This is a haunt that you have not yet triggered.

Careful with that book, it seems do some evil stuff.Enora says calmly as she removes the tentacle from her neck.
When Anora mentions the faces in the fire, Enora tries to make sense of it. I assume that it would be knowledge religion to learn about this haunt?

"I am blade's edge," Xukong hisses (to whom is uncertain) as it shifts its gaze between Zarnel and Enora's book...finally settling on the book, and advancing on Enora. It does not (yet) reach for or touch the book, but cranes its neck and hunches its body in a decidedly unnatural motion to examine it more closely...

Enora, you think magical cold would reverse the haunt. Xukong, you also see the magic of the scrolls present in the book.

![]() |

Slight RETCON if the GM allows it.
Las sees that Zarnel is injured and interrupts Zarnel's use of the CLW's wand and offers a zap from his wand of infernal healing. "Least I can do for someone standing between me and the those who would harm me. Though, if the spell's nature is unacceptable to you, I will understand." Las offers the the same service to Xukong. Can't remember if Dhampir's can be healed by infernal healing or not.
Las studies the haunt as well and tries to determine if alchemical cold will work.

Looks like we need so cold in here to solve this problem, but unfortunately, I lack that set ability at the moment. Any suggestions?

“No thank, Las. Vildeis would not approve of that type of healing. Though if I am dying, I could not object, and would certainly be grateful,“he finishes with a genuine smile.

If I could get a guidance from Arin, that would be a 30!
Zarnel joins Enora in studying the haunt trying to ascertain what would help this poor soul rest easily forever. “Enora, normally holy energy can release a haunt from its pain. Are we sure that would not work?“
So only magical cold? Not the usual positive energy / channeling / lay on hands? Is he able to tell anything about the conditions required to release it completely?
Infernal healing works just fine on dhampirs, BTW.

![]() |

With such a roll... Positive energy is also effective. The triggering range is 10ft.

What about disrupt undead? I just happen to have that prepared.
"Least I can do for someone standing between me and the those who would harm me. Though, if the spell's nature is unacceptable to you, I will understand." Las offers the the same service to Xukong.
"I am as yet unscathed," Xukong replies, "but that is acceptable. Which reminds me..." It gestures to two of the wands at its side, one a red coral wand shaped like a pitchfork (infernal healing), the other a verdigris-coated copper wand tipped with a stylized obsidian sunburst, as well as a flask filled with translucent black liquid (inflict light wounds). "I am wrought from a rare temper. Should I come to harm, use these or like magics to repair me. So long as time is not too precious, however, I shall have an even better means...."

![]() |

I'm good with Disrupt Undead, as it is specifically positive energy.

![]() |

If I could get a guidance from Arin, that would be a 30!
Members of the team can always assume you have Arin's guidance, and unless we're in combat rounds presume to apply it to leisurely skill checks. You just have to imagine he gurgles some creepy abyssal as he applies it to you :)

![]() |

The little gnome watches the team deliberate about the visage in the forge, and then pipes up from the back.
I have positive energy to lend as well. I suppose we should be ready, as once we start applying these opposing forces it may grow hostile.

![]() |

Uncertain of what to expect, Enora stand ready with her magical staff.
Not much I can contribute here so I will watch what the other do.

All right then, I can go first...

As the others are talking, Amerel moves out of the room saying "Let me get out of the way. I will be of little help here."

As Arin moves forward, Zarnel nods to Xukong and steps up to keep pace with his small friend, but then steps past him to approach the altar directly.
When the haunt manifests itself, he lays his hands upon it.
“Be still, and tell us what needs done to release you from this form. “

One problem with using LoH. He kind of has to actually lay his hands on it.

The forge erupts as Zarnel approaches before he is able to Lay on Hands.

You hear ghostly screams, the screams of the damned, spoken in Dwarven, “Torag! We have failed you!”
You presume the dwarven smithies that worked the forge were killed defending it. The forge and anvil sit in disrepair betraying its former glory.
Do anything else here or move on from the Temple district?

![]() |

Do take it as read that I help zap the forge with disrupt undead as needed and possible; haunts are one of those elements of the game I've never gotten a strong handle on.

![]() |

Yes, y'all could have stood back and pelted it with positive energy and such. Zarnel closed the distance and triggered it, however. If y'all patch him up, you can tidy up or move on. Let me know what you'd like to do.

Arin walks over to Zarnel to patch him up with divine healing.
Well, that's certainly one way to do it. He keeps his usual glassy-eyed expression as he works.

[ooc] Does the forge look like it can be relit?

![]() |

I thought we were in the Temple District? I vote we tidy up, but I am not sure what exactly that means. I think I am bit confused on the whole forge thing. Did the flame go out when it erupted? Is this the last thing to explore in the temple district?

![]() |

The area is in disrepair as it has been vandalized and such. Arin's religious training suggests it would be a sign of respect to restore it somewhat. The forge fire burns but you had noted the altar damage and other defilement when you arrived.
We are indeed in the Temple district. This is the last encounter before we move on to another district, which will probably happen tomorrow.

GM Redelia |

Pathfinders have claimed the Temple District!
The Seers’ District and Miners’ District are discovered.
Reinforcements arrive in the Temple District wherever Pathfinders are still involved in an encounter. (GMs, please allow your players to finish any in progress encounters, but please look at the top of page 12 to see the consequences of the reinforcements)

![]() |

No check, just a decision whether to do it or not. It will take 10 minutes for minimal effort. Please describe any other measures you are taking to cleanse the area.

![]() |

Enora takes pride in being able to help clean such an ancient piece of history. She says a short prayer to Neyths and Torag, even though she is not a worshiper of the Dwarven god. Once she is satisfied with the state of the forge, I think the Seer's District sounds pretty nifty as well. I vote we head there and see what we can find.

![]() |

Arin's religious training suggests it would be a sign of respect to restore it somewhat. The forge fire burns but you had noted the altar damage and other defilement when you arrived.
As an oracle he doesn't really have religious training. I believe it's Zarnel that made the religion check.

Yup, I mispoke there. Apologies.
