i am entertained by the idea that all androids that step into this thing might all come out as replicas of John

GM Nefreet |

I figured Pangea would get flashbacks to the assembly line where they were manufactured ^_^

It would be only logical...

GM Nefreet |

I perused each battle and totalled up everyone's damage thus far:
Sheher (120sp, 68hp):
26 + 35 = 61 damage
John (64sp, 52hp):
34 damage
Pangea (64sp, 52hp):
0 damage
Sigmus (57sp, 53hp):
21 - 13 healed = 8 damage
Zolvi (64sp, 52hp):
22 + 26 + 48 - 11 healed = 85 damage
Varnais (64sp, 46hp):
39 + 97 - 15 healed + 33 - 11 healed = 143 damage
Sheher wants to see how long she can last.
Sigmus probably doesn't need a rest (but can if he wants).
John can decide whether he wants to take a 10 minute rest or not.
Zolvi wants to take a 10 minute rest. I believe that leaves her with 21 hit points of actual damage remaining.
Varnais, in typical Vesk fashion, is tore up. Lol. She would have needed to take at least one 10 minute rest by now. But I'll give you a choice between two scenarios:
a) you took a 10 minute rest after your first 39 points of damage, and then again after your 97 points of damage. This would leave you at 31sp and 39hp after the most recent battle.
b) you took a 10 minute rest after your second battle, which left you at 15hp. You then took another 33 damage, and healed 11hp, leaving you at 31sp and 26hp.
Option A spent 2 Resolve. Option B spent 1 Resolve. Your choice ^_^
Going forward I will keep track of damage from encounter to encounter. You're the first group I've played with that didn't rest after every battle, so I was mostly just handwaving it. I guess without a dedicated healer, it's worth keeping track of.
Anyone want to use the machine?!

Zolvi |

Is that counting the Field Dressings Zolvi's applied? it would have healed 11 of her damage (so resting now, 10 Hit point damage still accrued) and 15 hp to Varnais (who's still pretty beat-up, but a bit better)
Beyond that, thank you! Looks good (and yeah, still adjusting to Starfinder's resource/hp attrition system)

Sheher |

Vanguard's would really enjoy being paired up with Envoys as that's the only way to replenish SP damage from what I know.

Pangea-Mu |

You'd need about 5 Envoys for 1 Vanguard to keep up!

Zolvi |

The biohacker Field Dressing trick can heal SP too, but the rate’s much worse than when it’s for HP (and both are lower than the Envoy’s Inspiring Boost, Though Field Dressing does not have the Envoy’s limitation that it be used within the round the target is hurt)

GM Nefreet |

Is that counting the Field Dressings Zolvi's applied?
Yep! I broke down the numbers above.
I basically added final damage totals from the last round of each combat and subtracted out of combat healing amounts.
@Varnais: Does your armor have any available upgrade slots left? I believe you have one of the DR 5/- upgrades left over from the Azlanti. Would put you almost on par with the rest of the group's defenses ^_^

Signifer Varnais |

No, I don't. Only if remove something. So... goodbye darkvision, hello DR! Thanks )
About hp/sp. I thought we had rest after every serious battle (at least two times) and received some healing in battle with snakes. So I already spend 2 RP and must have now full stamina and 38 hp (btw I have Regenerative Blood, Mk 1 which heals me 5 hp on each "stamina-rest"). But maybe I missed something.

GM Nefreet |

Oh, cool, if you've already spent the RP, then you're good on Stamina. And I did not factor in your Blood, so that should bring you to full on both counts ^_^

DunDraCon starts today and runs through Monday, so I might be busy, but I'm also not gaming every slot. Will probably just experience some delays.
I also wanted to highlight that it's been two months since we started, and we're almost finished! Just one map left after you explore this area ^_^
I want to thank you all for keeping up the pace!

Warm thoughts for your gaming buddy...

• The CRB (p. 253/254) tells you what cover is.
Then states that when you have cover you get no AoOs.
Then, below, goes on to explain what types of cover there are (soft, partial, improved...).
So, my take on this is that the "no AoOs w. cover" applies to all kinds of cover (cover in general).
Because it comes first, as a general rule, before stating which types of cover there are.
And because it does not specify that some types of cover do not block AoOs (and they would have, since Improved Cover has to block AoOs, so they would have said which cover does or does not if they wanted to allow some to block and others not to).
Just asking because I've been asked this, mainly, I think, because of Pathfinder rules (which have specific things for various types of cover
Do you have the same take on this?
The thing I just realized:
Soft Cover (p. 254 CRB)
Creatures, even enemies, between you and the source of an effect provide you with cover against ranged attacks, giving you a +4 bonus to AC. However, soft cover provides no bonus to Reflex saves, nor does soft cover allow you to attempt a Stealth check.
Other than the depressing though that it does not help to Stealth... what does the part provide you with cover against ranged attacks, giving you a +4 bonus to AC mean to you guys?
I had not picked up on that, but it seems to me to say that Soft Cover does not apply to Melee.Correct?
So that w. reach, you can hit through Soft Cover w/o -4 to hit (well, w/o +4 AC to enemy)?
(I know I, probably like a lot of people, have Pathfinder automatisms in place, so I thought it was -4 to hit).
What do you think?

GM Nefreet |

He then starts firing explosive rounds into the middle of the swarm.
Called Holy Ghost-Killer Poacher Injector Pistol: 1d20+13, for 2d6+8+2 EXPLOSIVE damage.
Question for you: these are Explosive Darts, right?
It doesn't look like they actually have the "explosive" quality, despite the name.
Or are you using something else?

Check the specials it has (down at the bottom, where you put "Analog" etc.).
It says "fiery".
And fiery is -- this --
counts as a weapon with the explode special property against creatures with swarm defenses
So BOOM BOOM
Have to look 5 things up to find how to use those darts! (((

GM Nefreet |

Gotcha. Cool. During my look through I figured "fiery" was the half-fire + knockdown critical.
Once again, I am excited to play an actual Biohacker when the new book comes out ^_^

Pangea-Mu |

I found out yesterday, I made a mistake: it's about the scanner and using a Move action to ID things.
It says you go on the Rarity for your DC, and I thought it meant the Rarity w/o the 1.5 x CR, but if you read the page, the "rarity" is the whole thing.
So you basically go against the normal DC - the move action meaning you can do Engineering, Mysticism etc. w. only the two skills (Life & Physical I think), so you can dump 3 skills re. IDing things.
So for IDing with Life it is best to just do it w/o the move action.

GM Nefreet |

Although I wish the Alien Archive entries had an actual line for rarity, the descriptions do often say if something is common or rare, so I can make do.
The Rebuilt were explicitly rare. Anything that evolved only on this planet would be rare. This mold is known throughout the galaxy, so I'd say it's normal. Rarity 10.

Zolvi (-18 Stamina, -21 Hit Points; diseased)
Tired Zolvi read 'dieseased' as 'deceased' right now and thought 'well, that plan sure went sour faster than I realized :)'

Pangea-Mu |

@Varnais: as I posted above, Swarms lost that vuln' in Alien Archives 1, but their union reps did really badly in rules negotiations, and it was back in by Alien Archives 2!
• A swarm takes half again as much damage (+50%) from effects that affect all targets in an area, such as grenades, blast and explode weapons, and many evocation spells (my bold)

GM Nefreet |

As I begin to prep the next book in the series, go ahead and shoot me a PM if you are interested in continuing or not.
You can either continue with your current character, or start a brand new character, or rebuild your current character with different options.
• Everyone will be Level 10
• Races include Core, Legacy, and Kish
• Playtest Classes still available
• New equipment, including:
One Level 10 item, one Level 9 item, and X credits (need to figure out the math)
Also, when you PM me, include your Society Character ID# (if you have one) that you want to give credit for this book.
Looking forward to the next adventure!

Pangea-Mu |

Is anyone changing characters?
Just reading this, I thought it might be fun to play a Kish Mystic.
And thus have Pangea remain to explore the local archaeology... which would work RP-wise.
And since we have multiple biohackers.

![]() |

*nods* I like the idea of a party of Kish, deciding to learn more about what their ancestors did, and travelling off-world.
My personal idea is to do a straight-class Solider, using a Battlebow ;-)
Would we have access to other 'Kish' equipment...?

Sheher |

I'd be willing to continue with a spacey Sheher if we continue with the same group but I do think I'd prefer a different character.
Group needs an Envoy for stamina healing!

Pangea-Mu |

I've not found a way get rid of the archaic part of the battlebow, which might be fine if the APs are not too tough combat-wise (-5 damage either a lot or some of the time).
You can always pop explosive arrows at swarms!
I'd be happy trying out a Kish Life-Shaman of Talavet.
Either joining the current group, or as part of Kish-heavy group off to hunt the Devourer!

@Pangea:
If you are a Soldier, you can - the 'Raw Lethality' Gear Boost:
When wielding weapons with the archaic weapon special property, the damage you deal is never reduced as a result of that property. Archaic weapons you wield gain bleed 1d8 as a critical hit effect. If the weapon already has a critical hit effect, when you score a critical hit, you can apply either the weapon’s normal critical hit effect or this bleed effect. The bleed damage increases by 1d8 at 11th level and every 4 soldier levels you have beyond 11th (maximum bleed 4d8 at 19th level).

If it helps in crafting your Kish backgrounds:
ISTAMAK
N ruined metropolis
Population 8,430 (100% kish)
Government autocracy (Chieftain Hoyfeq)
SOCIETY
The kish of Istamak are a society of mostly hunters and farmers. They are focused primarily on survival, and they worship the spirits of their ancestors by studying the ruins of civilization around them. Kish have no written language, and they speak a crude version of the language once spoken by the kishalee, so they pass down knowledge through oral histories and scenes painted on the crumbling buildings all around them. Some kish have an almost instinctual understanding of pieces of technology they discover; such "shamans" either repurpose these relics into devices the kish can use or imbue them with mystical powers that mimic their original functions.
Kish are ruled by a chieftain, who is advised by a council of huntmasters (kish who have proven to be excellent at leading others in often-dangerous hunts for food) and curates (kish who can best “speak” with the relics of the past). The exact composition of this council varies from chieftain to chieftain; a bellicose leader surrounds herself with more huntmasters, while a more thoughtful ruler enlists more curates. Cooperation is a key tradition for kish—and critical to their continued survival—so to maintain unity, the chieftain’s word is usually considered law, even by those who disagree with her decisions.
The current kish chieftain is Hoyfeq (N male kish soldier), the previous chieftain’s main huntmaster advisor. He rose to his position after the previous chieftain was killed in a hunting accident. Questions surround the circumstances of Hoyfeq’s advancement, but he has proven to be a strong leader so far, so no one has voiced these concerns too loudly. Hoyfeq’s council consists of Curate Gundi (NG male kish envoy), Curate Tzayl (NG female kish mystic), Huntmaster Iokki (LN female kish soldier), Huntmaster Phej (CN female kish operative), and Huntmaster Xavra (NE male kish solarian). During the past few months of Hoyfeq’s rule, he has been siding more with the opinions of his huntmasters and less with his curates, favoring larger hunts of more dangerous beasts—a move some kish find unnecessarily risky.
Kish faith consists of a reverence for the spirits of the kishalee as well as for the accomplishments of those ancient people. Though kish spend most of their time procuring food and water or performing maintenance on Hearth’s buildings, some kish explore the rest of Istamak or make the occasional pilgrimage to one of the city’s known sacred sites. Devout kish leave offerings of dried flowers, fruit, and small trinkets they have crafted at these shrines, usually hoping to gain their ancestors’ favor or find the answer to a question that has been vexing them. These kish sometimes find what they seek, whether in the form of a piece of previously undiscovered technology or a cryptic partial message from a sporadically functioning computer.
RESOURCES
The food the kish obtain from farming, foraging, and hunting is just enough to feed the current population. They grow berries, gourds, herbs, and leafy greens on their farms, while meat from the small herds of bovine revithals that graze within the hunting grounds provide additional protein. Kish collect water from the lakes in the hunting grounds and from the occasional rainfall. To an outsider, this water has a faint metallic taste, but the kish are inured to it.
Istamak is a veritable gold mine of ancient technology the likes of which has not been seen in the galaxy, even though much of it has become nonfunctional or turned to dust over the centuries. An explorer with enough perseverance, along with sufficient expertise in both engineering and the mystical arts, could potentially amass a treasure trove of artifacts. Of course, such an adventurer would also face the ethical implications of robbing the indigenous population of its religious relics—not to mention the fact that they might find themselves facing down an angry huntmaster’s kishaxe.
CONFLICTS AND THREATS
The kish of Istamak have long been unified as a single tribe, accepting the decisions of the chieftain even if not everyone agrees with them. This harmony is a matter of survival, as any major schism within the tribe could quickly lead to its extinction. However, the current population is growing, and in a few generations, Hearth won’t be able to hold them all. Soon, kish will face a crisis: Will they allow some of their people to perish from lack of food and shelter in order to maintain their population, will they undertake massive construction projects to make more room, or will a small group split off in search of another home that can sustain them? Whatever solutions the kish employ, it’s likely to have a huge impact on what has been a relatively peaceful existence thus far.
Aside from looming societal change, the biggest direct threats to Istamak’s residents are the feral creatures that roam parts of the city. Serpentine acrochors drop from tree branches or exposed girders to wrap around unsuspecting victims and squeeze them to death. Flying predators such as sharpwings roost among the tallest buildings, ready to swoop down on prey. Packs of mature eohis roam the hunting grounds, searching for their next meal (usually targeting slow or sickly revithals). Strangely, none of these creatures are actually native to Nejeor VI; indigenous fauna exists mainly in the depths of the planet’s liquid-hydrogen seas. Rather, these predators were all originally brought to the city by Kishalee to populate their zoos.

Sheher |

A full Kish team would need at least one non Kish to lead them right? A pilot or some such?
I'm thinking of a young Kish curate who's gone space crazy by being inspired by the sudden recent rush of visitors from space. Super enthusiastic technophile bouncing off the walls type. A real prodigy to explain why he's level 10 but too busy learning new things to be a dick about it.

GM Nefreet |

In the event that everyone wants to play a Kish (which, I admit, I didn't expect! Lol), we can figure something out.

Sheher |

I'm going to take a break from posting for a few days guys. The mosque attack in NZ has me feeling pretty distraught. So many want me and my family dead just for being us. It gets to me.

GM Nefreet |

I just read about that while GMing an SFS session tonight, and I was in tears =(

Well, according to the WBL table, it should be 66,000 credits for a level 10 PC...?
