Sauros

Rules Question for anyone who knows. Sauros selected Intervene as one of his Disciplines:
As a reaction when an adjacent ally is damaged by an attack, you can take half the attack’s damage, and your ally takes the remaining damage. This doesn’t prevent your ally from suffering related effects, nor does it cause such effects to apply to you.
But he also has DR 9/–
My favorable interpretation of this interaction would go like this:
• I'm adjacent to Ally
• Ally is hit for 20 kinetic damage
• Ally instead takes 10, and I take 1
Intervene doesn't have the usual language that clarifies "this damage can't be mitigated in any way" like some of the other similar abilities, but I recognize it's a playtest document and it might have been missed.
What say you?
James "J.J." Jones
Definitely something to ask in the playtest. Given the prevalence of energy damage in Starfinder, DR isn't as OP anymore, so I would probably allow your interpretation at my tables.

Chris/Skeemo here, character should be good to go. Link to sheet in profile along with generic bot instructions. I’ll flesh out the bot instructions and the PbP header content once I’m back on my computer on Monday. The character sheet should be up to date, but the pdf text isn’t showing on my phone; if it’s not showing at all, I can fix it on Monday.
I’ll have to update the pdf on Monday, but I want to replace the 3 serums of healing and the 15 remaining credits with 1 serum of healing, 1 serum of Diaspora Daredevil, 25 more darts, and 355 remaining credits.
Out of Character Questions
What sort of Playtest character do you want to build? Offensively-minded biohacker, mostly focusing on counteragent and poison use.
Do you have an up-to-date 'bot me' spoiler? Not yet in a spoiler and pretty generic, but yes. Will expound soon.
Will you be willing to bot other characters if I ask you to do so? In an emergency absolutely, but would prefer other players get chosen first since this is an inordinately busy time of the year at work.
Do you promise to let me know if you get super busy for a few days so we can bot you? Yep. Traveling until Monday, Dec. 10th, and will likely be spotty until December 18th or so. I should be able to post at least once a day through that time, but posts will be short and sparse until things lighten up a bit. Once I’m through that posting should get more RP focused and frequent.
What's been your favorite SFS Adventure so far, and why? Adevnture Path #8: Escape from the Prison Moon. So much flavor, RP, and a very novel adventure design.
Who are you on the PFS Session Tracker? Not on it yet.
In Character Questions for the Character you are Playing (especially if this is a brand new Playtest creation):
Who are you and where are you from? Tophoric, lashunta biohacker from Castrovel.
Come up with 2-6 lines of backstory. It doesn't have to be deep, but you should know who you are and where you came from, and why you're hanging with the Starfinder Society. Tophoric was top of his medical school class on Castrovel, specifically for his work in immunology and bioengineering, and was able to leverage his natural charm and wit to mask the fact that he was doing unauthorized experiments and augmentations on his peers behind closed doors. Although he believed his experiments were harmless, a classmate of his suffered a near-fatal allergic reaction to one of his injections, and the university could no longer keep turning the other way. Tophoric was expelled, doing questionable odd jobs for drug dealers and freelance augmentation clinics until his talent was recognized by a Starfinder Society recruiter looking to shore up losses from the then-pertinent Scoured Stars disaster. The two worked together with gradually increasing closeness until Tophoric decided to fully enlist.
What are your favorite things to do? Tophoric likes making his friends feel good and his foes feel uncomfortable. He has an easy demeanor and quick wit, but often twists the knife in his enemies with well-places barbs both physical and verbal. Beyond that, he remains fascinated with biological engineering, eagerly seeking out subjects for biotech augmentation or mild experimentation.
What shenanigans do you like to do in combat? Tophoric mostly concentrates on afflicting his foes with counteragents using his nightarch needler. When his friends are in trouble, though, he’ll stick them with a benevolent injection from a distance to keep them going.

Excellent.
As you can tell from my header, we now have a set of snarky map slides, and now I'll start rolling us into this adventure!

Thanks for those of you on Standby. If we have a drop, I'll have Naiaj shuttle you in!

+8! Forgot to add the feat bonus. Thanks!
Xesh
Oh wow! You weren't kidding when you said "fast-paced," I'm trying to catch up on my PbPs so I'll try to post ASAP.
GM Hmm
I am trying to keep us moving at a pace of around 2-3 posts a day -- about what I aim to do with specials -- so that you guys get a chance to really playtest your characters before filling out the surveys on January 16th. So there should be at least a post from me in the morning and at night unless I tell you that I am not going to be able to post at all. Wednesdays are CRAZY for me, so next Wednesday you are going to be lucky to get one post during that whole day.
If I go too fast and the whole group wants me to take off the rocket boots, I can.
So... Now that you have picked the Drake, what starship roles will you want to do? We don't need it now, but eventually there will be a starship combat, and it's good to know who is doing what.
Hugs,
Hmm

I hope you don't mind me using Charli to break up big blocks of text, but I figure that you will hear voices from the other crews as this happens, so it gives me a way to give you a visual break.
Besides, she's on this ride too!

We should probably figure out Starship roles eh?
JJ can do Piloting, Captaining or Gunning with decent competency (though a lack of Intimidate will hurt his Captaining).
Xesh
And that is where I am most fuzzy—could someone jog my memory on how Starship combat works...?
Matarno
Matarno can contribute a +17 to Diplomacy (slightly worse captaining than JJ) or a +9 to shooting... Ah, the old "forgot about spaceship combat during character creation" conundrum.
James "J.J." Jones
Xesh:
Essentially it's a skillcheck challenge where you can take various actions during a round. Each position has a "primary" skill check (except Captains), which they can use to perform actions. The roles are as follows:
Captain: Uses Diplomacy, Intimdate, and also has uses for Engineering, Piloting, and Computers. (It technically has a use for Bluff too, but you can use Intimidate instead)
Pilot: Uh. Piloting. Ya
Science Officer: Computers.
Engineer: Take a guess.
Gunners: Either BAB or Piloting ranks, plus Dex.
Xesh
Thanks, J.J.!
I think I’d probably be most effective as a gunner with a +11.
GM Hmm

Remember that you can also flex during a combat. So you can have a person with great intimidate lead off as Captain, and then flex to another role. Or the Captain can back up the science officer with more computer checks the first round, and then shift back to Captaining.
I'm all in favor of people being mobilie in ship combat if they're an experienced crew. I have combat role cheat sheets that I like to use. Should I set up a player google folder for that purpose, and for any other notes you might want to make?

Also, i'd love for you to give me a marching order.

Also, i'd love for you to give me a marching order.
I would probably say the vanguards up front, the biohackers in the back, and the witchwarpers in the middle protected from both sides.
Any objections?

I think Tophoric is our only option for Engineering.
How do these roles look:
Captain: Matarno
Pilot: JJ
Science Officer: Karyn
Engineer: Tophoric
Gunners: Xesh, Sauros
As far as marching order, JJ has heavy armour and a blast weapon so he's fine being up front. He can take the spot right behind the Vanguards.
James "J.J." Jones
Oof, JJ missed his piloting check by 2. Could use the Captain's help. :D
Tophoric

I think I mentioned this before but I am traveling this weekend, so I’ll be back to posting tomorrow. I’ll definitet be in the middle-back of marching order, and can do any role except pilot (gunner would be doable but tricky). Max Bluff, Diplomacy, Engineering, and Computers. Science officer would probably be my best option.
GM Hmm
And we have a combat post!
(Man, why do those take forever to compose in PBP?)
Speaking of taking forever... Tophoric and Matarno, when you two get a chance, can you update your headers to be closer to what Xesh, J.J. and Sauros have? It's nice to be able to look at your headers and see AC and other key items.
Tophoric, I know you're on the road, so only do it when you have time!
Thanks!

Probably a waste of an RP to reroll to save 3 damage, but I had to do it for the BWAAAAAH. All about dem wubs.
GM Hmm
Working on it all now!
Excellent. I'm not familiar enough with your classes yet to do them botting justice, though I am reading up on them as I am GMing this. I am using you guys to teach me the Playtest. It's my eviiiill plot.

It was FUN.
This is what I want -- a fast, fun run with a good group and shenanigans.

I hear that, I'm writing out all my things to make sure I'm catching all the playtest stuff too. I forgot to note that my studious spark of ingenuity is what allows dual injection abilities simultaneously, and that the Fortitude bonus and option for blindsense/Blind-Fight come from his fields of study (genetics and immunology).

Agreed, fun to see the witchwarper flavor being put to such apt use. Besides, what good is 9 RP if you're just gonna sit on 'em?
James "J.J." Jones
Sorry if I wasn't clear Sauros - it literally just moves you 10ft, nothing else. Not a move action.
GM Hmm
J.J, I am confused. If it's a 60 foot cone, why all the separate EAC rolls? I think I need to rewind time slightly and give you damage on the three you didn't hit last time, because I got confused about how your weapon works.
What book is your weapon from, and what is its full name? I need to read it. Thanks.
Hmm

Blast weapons you roll for each target's AC individually, but only damage once.
The weapon is a LFD Screamer from the Core Rulebook, can be read here
Basically, whenever I fire the weapon, I get 1 attack against anyone inside the cone (at -2, which I've included), but I only roll damage once. Anyone whom I miss, their armour protected them from the attack (or similar).
This weapon fires in a cone that extends only to its first range increment. You can’t use it to attack creatures beyond that range.
For each attack you make with a weapon with the blast special property, roll one attack against each target in the cone, starting with those closest to you. Each attack takes a –2 penalty in addition to other penalties, such as the penalty to all attacks during a full attack. Roll damage only once for all targets. If you roll one or more critical hits, roll the extra critical damage only once (or any other special effects on a critical hit that require you to roll) and apply it to each creature against which you score a critical hit. You can’t avoid shooting at allies in the cone, nor can you shoot any creature more than once.
Attacks with blast weapons ignore concealment. A blast weapon doesn’t benefit from feats or abilities that increase the damage of a single attack (such as the operative’s trick attack). Ammunition for blast weapons is designed for blast attacks, so you spend the usage amount only once for each cone of attacks.
GM Hmm
Okay. Thanks. I am now up to speed.

Oh, you know, that's my fault for getting the move action mixed up.
Both haste and your ability only allow movement it looks like, so he doesn't really have any need for the ext-....
OH!!
In that case, I can hit and run, use haste to move up, full attack, and your ability to deny them their full attack.
Me like ^_^

@Hmm:
The venom spur is a type of Biotech augmentation which is linked here.
It's not a typical poison. When afflicted and at the start of their turn they have to make a save. Any time they fail their save they take 2d6 damage. 1 save ends the effect
As a side note, no save against the Confusion counteragent seems too strong to me.
Karyn
As a side note, no save against the Confusion counteragent seems too strong to me.
You shut your mouth!
Actually, I am very surprised that there wasn't a save on that one as well. Perhaps the limited duration of counteragents, coupled with the need to make a successful hit? Let's play it out and see.
Karyn
Okay, so apparently I was so excited to try out the new class features that I completely forgot to give Karyn any feats. o_0
So, assuming that Hmm is kind and generous, Karyn will be adding Weapon Focus (small arms), Improved Initiative, Far Shot, Mobility, and Deadly Aim to her repertoire.
GM note: that takes my initiative bonus to +8 for your macro.

Ooh, it's a biotech augmentation. DERP. Wow, that would be NASTY against a low fort character.
Karyn, lovely, of course you may have feats. I will go edit my macro now!
