GM Aerondor |
"We need them urgently. You bring them back."
She offers you a bag with roughly 1000gp worth of gold, silver gems and jewellery.
"Get those supplies and bring them back as soon as you can."
She provides easily follow able directions for you, and details of the supplies "[b]The supplies range from bandages and splints to all variety of healing potions and ointments. All of these are needed to aid the wounded.[b]”
Xusius |
Xusius looks at his group members and says, "I vill not be very helpful wif zis task. I zeem to have little skill in zocial zituations."
GM Aerondor |
And moving forward..
The team works their way through the crowded, chaotic and fearful city without any major incidents. Eventually you get to the "Sovereign's Rest" . the building remains relatively unscathed from demonic assault. Inside it appears more bar than herbalist, as a couple of dozen men sit and drink, despite the ongoing siege.
At the back of the inn is a large throne with a man seated upon it, presumably Zuka - the man you are after. After a moment or two he notices your entrance and gestures you forward.
"And what brings you to my establishment?" he asks.
Argus Coal-Heart |
Argus clears his throat then steps forward awkwardly. "Er, yes. Are you the one they call Sovereign? If so, then we have an order we wish to fill, for Sister Amira at the Cruciform Cathedral. Perhaps we can agree on an appropriate price?"
My guess is it's a Diplomacy check to haggle?
GM Aerondor |
"Well.. yes. I think we can. I seem to recall... let us say. 2000gold." smiles the man. And not a nice smile at all.
Okay, this negotiation takes four "rounds", during each one you can use a skill (or the same skill) to try and lower his price.
• Appraise: The PC uses her knowledge of the supplies’ value in negotiations.
• Bluff: The PC attempts to swindle Zuka.
• Diplomacy: The PC attempts to impress Zuka with the seriousness of the situation.
• Heal: The PC demonstrates knowledge of the supplies, which impresses Zuka.
• Intimidate: The PC attempts to strong-arm Zuka into giving up the shipment for free.
• Sense Motive: The PC uses social cues to read Zuka.
And I'm happy to apply a small circumstance bonus for good RPing in your posts

"Zuka, the town is in need. Won't you do the right thing and price fairly."
Gromther sees if the man has an ounce of compassion.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Kinosis Of Dreams |
Kinosis has a look through the medical supplies the group is picking up.
"I do believe you are quite short on the quantity requested if the price is 2000 gold."
Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Argus Coal-Heart |
Argus frowns at Zuka. "You do realize there is a horde of demons attacking the city? The less supplies the medics have, the fewer soldiers keeping those demons from devouring innocent souls." He raises an eyebrow. "And guilty ones. Businesses run better when not swarmed with spawn from the Abyss."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

GM Aerondor |
Zuka looks impressed with a couple of the arguments, reducing his price slightly "Okay, 1500gp.." he counters.
To keep things moving, you three can try again. Others can make two attempts

Lybram takes note of the demeanor of Zuka. "Why are you smiling a crocodile smile?" He mumbles to himself puzzling out what could be motivating the man.
sense motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Round two:
Lybram will look over the supplies and see if there is anything lacking or if something could be improved in the arrangement.
heal check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
"Why are the bandages and splints in such large quantities while the ointments are nothing near enough." "we will run out of ointment long before the bandages and the ointment is more important for preventing infection."
Xusius |
Xusius tries to help out.
"Zese medicines and zupplies zou have, zey are not as high of quality as zou would have us believe. Nor are zey as expensive as zou are trying to pass zem off as. I see zat zey are worth about 750 gp total."
Appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Argus Coal-Heart |
Though loathe to do so, Argus reluctantly decides to use his natural "charm." Shelyn forgive me, he thinks to himself, but the church needs those supplies far more than this charlatan needs to be comfortable.
He crosses his thick arms and gives Zuka a level gaze. "It'd be a shame if the fighting found its way here. Demons are notoriously messy eaters. You'd be cleaning the blood out the floorboards for weeks--if the demons left anything of you.
"Right now, you're in a fine spot. Out of the way, not too close to the action. The longer the demons infest this city, the closer they get to you. Sooner or later some spawn of the Abyss is gonna look here for a snack." He leans in closer to the man and rumbles, "Damn shame."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
... Dang.
GM Aerondor |
Lybram cannot really read the canny businessman, but his observations about the composition of the supplies is right on. Unfortunately neither Xesius nor Argus are able to help budge his position.
"Okay, a thousand then." he eventually agrees.
You can try to get them still cheaper if you like, but there is no real benefit to doing so. If you want to stay and get them cheaper, feel free to post another couple of rounds of interactions, otherwise it will be time to head off...
Lybram Tendras |
Lybram will try a new tact for him.
"Sir, that is a reasonable price, but under the circumstances can't you find it in you heart to help others? Many are suffering and need these supplies and the organization needs every penny it can save. There will be a clean up and the sisters will be using up all there resources. Can't you cut them a break?"
diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Shaeri Azrae FrostBane |
sorry folks it got hectic up here, was one thing after another
Sense motive: 1d20 ⇒ 3
~~round 2~~
"What if your price causes them to lose the effort, how many customers will you lose, if not your establishment, or possibly your own life if these things take over"
Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Xusius |
We have met the price set, so let's pay it and move on. There's probably plenty of demons to kill out there!
Argus Coal-Heart |
We brought the price down by half, I'd say that's pretty good! Also, who's carrying the coin? Argus is of course willing to do so.
GM Aerondor |
You had over the coins, finding making headway increasingly difficult against the firming resistance of the inn-keeper.
Taking the supplies back to the cathedral, sister Amira gratefully receives them.
"Thank you so much. Lives will be saved today because of your actions pathifnders. You should be proud of yourselves." Even as she is speaking you see another man arrive, looking harried. As soon as she stop speaking he interjects.
“Thank the gods I have found you! Venture-Captain Jorsal tasked me with finding some experienced agents, and it appears I am blessed with you. Jorsal is trying to mobilize as many Pathfinders as he can, and needs the assistance of Venture-Captain Thurl. I’ll direct you to his lodge, but please find him. Or at the very least, find out where he might be!”
Argus Coal-Heart |
Argus nods to the messenger. "Of course. Point the way."
GM Aerondor |
Before leaving, the sister thanks you once again. "If you get injured, please come around and we'll try to help"
You have an extra use of supplies if you need them during this part
Following instructions you head off to the lodge, which is a modest structure that lies in the Egelsee district of Nerosyan. Publicly touted as a contract site for cut-rate mercenaries, the building rarely sees visitors from the crusader host. A single front door allows for access to the structure, and no other doors or windows exist.

Argus Coal-Heart |
Argus shrugs awkwardly. "People seem to like me sometimes, for some reason. I-I guess I could do it."
I've got a +6 Diplo.
Lybram Tendras |
Lybram will watch the door for a little. Are there people coming and going through it? Do they look like normal inn customers?
"I would hate to run into a trap. Anyone know the guy who gave us this assignment?"
If things appear normal Lybram will venture in. Normal traffic normal activity inside. That sort of thing.
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
GM Aerondor |
The door remains unopened, with nobody going in or out.
Lybram approaches it and tries the door, but it appears to be locked.
Xusius |
Xusius will cast Detect Magic and focus on the door and its lock.
Argus Coal-Heart |
I just imagine a voice yelling "CANDYGRAAAAM!!" and then a demon hitting with a splat! Thanks for that image. :D
Argus salutes Syeira, then returns his attention to the lodge door. He glances at the others. "I have no skill with locks. What, ah... what about you all?"
Xusius |
Xusius takes the aid token from the body of the splatted demon and says, "Zank zou very much!"
Gromther |
"I may be wrong but this is our lodge, right?" Gromther hrumphs as he tries to push the door open. "Anyone want to help?"
strength check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

[b]"I'm afraid beyond freezing the lock, or hinges I might not be of any use, though I guess maybe if there is someone listening, he might be willing to lend us a hand to help end this fighting, just by letting us in for refuge while we find who we are looking for"[/b}
Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
and now all of a sudden she sounds like the wicked witch giving a poisoned apple, I'm sure
Argus Coal-Heart |
SInce no one answers, Argus steps up with Gromther and helps to pry the door open.
Strength Check (aiding Gromther) DC 10: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Crack, the door flies inward.
A clock rests against the western wall of this reception area. A desk covers the northeastern section of the room, behind which sits an empty chair. Doors exit to the east and north.

OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT
Despite the Demons attempting to take control once again and arriving in greater numbers, the host of Pathfinders is battering them back as quickly as they arrive. The Pathfinders are delivering victories at an astonishing rate, particularly in the Confluence and Outer districts!
Argus Coal-Heart |
Argus nods. "East works for me." He scans the room as he says it, glaive in hand, keeping an eye out for danger. "I don't like this. Where is everyone?"
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
GUYS I FOUND THE FLOOR
GM Aerondor |
The eastern door opens to reveal another room.
Dominating the eastern edge of this room is a long bench. Two sturdy chairs stand beside a wooden table near the center of the room; a thin layer of dust covers them. A bookshelf lies on the northern edge, prominently displaying books on the history of Mendev and the Worldwound.
Xusius |
Xusius moves in and looks around the first room.
