What is the name of the system we're in? I was looking for it and couldn't find it in the details, so I probably missed it.

Tesswyn |

"Shadow of the Demon Lord."

bookrat |

Is everyone caught up on their characters? Have I missed or forgotten to respond to anyone?
For Power Score 1, you will have 2 castings of Each rank 0 spell and 1 casting of Each Rank 1 spell.
Many people discover the tradition by studying at the fabled House of Healing, an institution founded long ago to fight plagues and alleviate suffering. Upon completing the training, each new Life practitioner receives a tattoo of a hand, palm out, on the right cheek and is given a crimson cloak to signify commitment to healing.
Did you attend this school during the past year (or perhaps were tutored here in town by a graduate of this school), or did you discover this tradition of magic on your own?
Here's your choice of 0 Rank spells:
Life Sense. For one minute, you know the location of every living creature within 5 yards of you.
Minor Healing. A creature can heal half their healing rate with your touch.
Rank 1 spells:
Light Healing. A creature can heal their healing rate with your touch.
Fount of Life. For one minute, whenever a creature within two yards of you heals, they heal an additional amount equal to your Power score.
Cure. Touch a target to grant them one of the following benefits:
• Remove one of the following afflictions from the target: diseased, fatigued, impaired, or poisoned.
• Remove 1 Insanity from the target.
• Remove any penalty to the target’s Health.
• The target heals damage equal to half its healing rate.
Theurgy
When you cast a Theurgy spell, a brief manifestation of the divine occurs somewhere in your presence. Examples include a tongue of fire burning in the air above your head, a trembling in the ground, or flaming scripture appearing on the target, a surface, or in the air. Such manifestations last only a moment, but might impress the dubious and skeptical with the clear sign of divine favor.
For Theurgy Tradition, here's your rank 0 options:
Create Holy Symbol. For one minute, a holy symbol appears in you hand for the duration or until you drop it. While you hold it, you have a Boon on all Attack Rolls with Theurgy spells.
Denounce. You denounce a creature that can see and hear you, and is within Short Range of you. Make a Will Attack vs their Will Score. On a success, they are Frightened for 1 round. On a 20+, they are also Prone.

Novice (Priest) isn't a profession. It's a Path. If you look at the character sheet in posted in recruitment, you can see I have the Paths under a different spoiler.
Paths are like classes in D&D. Professions are like skills.
Spells
You've hosen two Traditions, and with each Tradition you automatically gain one Rank 0 Spell, which you've already chosen. But remember, the priest also gets one free Tradition in addition to your two choices.
So you have the option of picking up a third Tradition (and gaining a free Rank 0 spell) or learning a New Spell, either Rank 0 or 1 of a tradition you already know.
Also, you get 2 castings per day for each of your Rank 0 spells, and 1 casting per day of your Rank 1 spells.
Does that help clear things up?
Also, there are some specifics about the traditions you've chosen.
Life.
Did your PC attend this school in the past year, or were your tutored privately (by a graduate of the school or perhaps someone else, or did it come to you from Astrid the Martyr herself? Please explain in the main thread.

@All Magic Users: You must weild an Implement to cast a spell. What is yours? A holy symbol? A magic book? A wand? It's up to you what it is, but you must hold it to cast.
• The mortal soul is eternal. Death is a door to the next life.
• Cruelty, selfishness, and greed stain the soul, dooming it to the torments of Hell. To avoid the horrors of the afterlife, mortals should lead good lives, and be kind and virtuous in all things.
• The divine depends on mortals, not the other way around.
• Anything circumventing the migration of the soul is an abomination. Undead, spirits loosed from the Underworld, efforts to extend mortal life through magic, and the like draw the hateful eye of the Demon Lord.
Astrid disappeared in the third century after many years of persecution. Legend holds she ascended to Paradise. Some believe this ascension transformed her into a god, but many believe she was always a god in mortal form.
Critics of the cult, however, claim she never ascended and was in fact stabbed to death, her corpse torn apart by wild dogs. All across the Empire, one can find the bones of wild dogs for sale in response; the faithful wear them as signs of their devotion and to gain the blessing of the New God. Astrid is separate from the New God, but the common folk have elevated the prophet to divine status.
The cult leaders reconcile the heresy by claiming Astrid is yet another aspect of the greater deity. The symbol of the New God is a circle, usually depicting a snake or dragon eating its own tail. The prophet, Astrid, is shown as a robed woman with knives thrust into her body.

Charlemange |

During our introduction, for the dream foretelling I chose to have his manifestation come in the form of the holy symbol of the New God. However during the opening encounter I never did get around to using it. Did this one-time use fade?
If it didn't, then I would like that to be sort of a link between himself and his divine powers that he developed. Over the last year it solidified within his mind. Since it very nearly resembles the 0th level Theurgy tradition spell, Create Holy Symbol. In this case, everything magic Charles does would have the flair of Theurgy about it; religious symbols appearing in the air, his eyes taking on a momentary bright light, plants livening up, that sort of thing.
I would like to take Denounce for my 0th level Theurgy spell, but if it would help instead to have the Create Holy Symbol spell, I'll take that spell.
As for my Life tradition magic, I had originally been thinking that Charlemange had learned it on his own as it was stated that most people learned it from the college. However, after going over his backstory again, I remembered the part I wrote about the woman who went by the name Lila and had originally helped him to learn about the New God but then suddenly left one day.
She could have left to attend the healing school and have then arrived in Asylum after the fact and taught Charles what she knew. I also like the idea now that she was the one who originally convinced Charlemange to change his name during their travels.
Also I like the idea that she is a background character who will show up between arcs to show Charles how to progress further and act as a mentor for him.
As far as equipment goes, Charles will buy some decent clothing and a set of soft leather armor.
It's always sad to lose someone in a game. Hope things turn around.

Drot'ook |

Hmmm, the things I'd like to get are a little too expensive so at this point I think Drot would get a book, quill and ink to begin writing his first spell book as well as keep meticulous notes about things. He will also get a nicer robe because he likes to feel like a fancy college wizard.

Walter the Pious |

Sorry, I am running behind in this game, but work has been very busy. I will try to get Walt's year in travelling up as soon as I can. Again sorry for the delay!

Charlemange |

Hope no one minded the direct hand in the group pairings, I posted. If I'm overstepping my bounds or if anyone would rather do something else by all means, let me know and I'll take it down a notch.

Tesswyn |

Tesswyn will groan about it in-character, but it's fine with her player. :)

Big Gronder |

Just FYI, I will be out of pocket for just over 24 hours, at a Cub Scout campout. Feel free to use me for whatever nefarious purposes come to mind. I'll be back to posting tomorrow.

Tesswyn |

That map is awesome! What program do you use to make it?

Walter the Pious |

Very sorry to all...Work just caught me flat footed and I have not had time to catch up. If it is OK I would still like to play, but if not, then I understand.

Walter the Pious |

LOL...thanks..between budgets, meetings about budgets and reports needing completing the last couple of weeks has been crazy!!!

Tesswyn |

The map is showing up blank for me.

Tesswyn |

Too bad there are no crits in this game. The demon probably would have just exploded. :P

Tesswyn |

Ah, cool. I still want this demon to explode. :)

Walter the Pious |

I did alter my character...and noted that I still have 1-0 level Theurgy and life spell left to cast...should be on my tagline now. Sorry for the lack of further response but I have been sick for the last few weeks...but should be good to go now :-)

Charlemange |

Ooh, just remembered, now that the demon is gone and her influence seems to be leaving, Charles is curious to see if the orb shows the same images as before or if they've changed.

Charlemange |

Who is the most wounded and bloodiest looking of the group?

Charlemange |

Actually, it doesn't necessarily have to be the most wounded one, just the one with the bloodiest wounds nearby.

Tesswyn |

Hopefully the others can help me in some way before I try again. It would suck to kill the demon and then die to a stupid trap on the way out.

Charlemange |

Couple of questions regarding insanity: Is it normally permanent for people? Also, how noticeable is it? I ask mainly because one of the Cure spell's abilities is to remove one insanity from the target. So over the course of days, Charles could return someone to normal.

Tesswyn |

Okay, I retroactively spend my silver shilling and one of the ones I found in the shopkeeper's house for the thieves' tools. That leaves us with the following loot post-adventure:
4 gold crowns, 5 silver shillings, 40 copper pennies, 13 bits
20' unbreakable rope
1 double duration torch
1 seeing potion

Tesswyn |

Assuming we split the coins evenly, everybody gets 8ss. There's an extra 1ss, 1cp, and 3 bits left over.

bookrat |

Insantiy does nothing permanent until it reaches your Will Score.
Until then, all it does is make you Frightened when you gain new Insantiy points for a duration equal to your new score.
When it reaches your Will Score, then you'll roll a d20 and you'll gain a Madness, which is a longer effect that can be anywhere from rounds to hours to permanent, depending on your roll. After it ends, you will reduce your Insantiy Score by 1d6+1.
At any time, you can gain a Quirk (chosen by me) to reduce your insanity Score by 1d6+Will Mod (min 1). A quirk is a compulsive behavior, a phobia, or another condition that permanently affects your character.
Examples of madness:
Catatonia (roll of 2 on the d20) - fall catatonic for one hour. At the end of the hour roll a d6, 4+ the Catatonia ends.
Panic (12-13 on a d20) - Become Frightened. While frightened in this way, you must spend your action to rush away from the source of the madness. At the end of each round, roll a d6, on a 5+, the madness ends.
Some aspects of the game dictate what kind of madness you get, and you don't roll. For example, the Battle Tradition automatically grants Battle Madness instead of you rolling.
Examples of Quirks:
Addiction - the character gains an addiction to something and it becomes as important as food, water, and sleep. Deprivation of the addiction is the same as deprivation of food.
Delusion - the character believes something about the world that isn't true. Nothing can convince them otherwise.

I noticed Walt is listed under inactive characters. Will he no longer be playing with us?

bookrat |

Yes. He has bowed out. He says he is having difficulty connecting with his character.
I've invited him to come back with a new PC if he would like, but as the PM system on this site no longer gives obvious notifications, I am not sure when he'll see it.
He'll be missed. Daniel is a fantastic player. I've gamed with him many times on these boards.

Tesswyn |

Darn, hopefully he'll come back then. He was fun to play with.
