Andrus Merula |
Andrus is taken aback when he gets a good look at the idol. He unconsciously takes a few steps back, and looks uneasily at how Xune is cradling it with ease.
Anyone with detect magic?
Olise Goldear |
Ping!
Olise eyes the idol with suspicion. "That's Lamashtu. Be careful with that, Xune. It might be dangerous. Let me see." Olise waves around her holly and mistletoe, and an imperceptible aura of magic radiates around her before bouncing back with any magical signals in the immediate vicinity.
Cast Detect Magic
GM Zer0darkfire |
With the lack of an "Appraise" skill, I would put valuing an object under craft personally, but I'm fine with your thievery roll too. You value the idol at around 40sp.
Olise detects an aura of magic on the idol.
Vardigas Hackles |
“Monsters? Bah, we will crush them like the rest! These creatures’ totems are inferior to my own!” Vardigas beams with overinflated ego, evidently comparing the idol of Lamashtu to his own giant totem.
Biffin Rockboots |
"Inferior, and evil. Hand it over 'ere, I'll smash the bloody thing ta pieces."
Biffin gestures with his hand and hoists his warhammer in the other one.
Biffin Rockboots |
"Elec-what? Fine, iffin ye be keepin' it, doon come a blamin' me when it bites ye! Let's move on. Times a wastin' and there be a bugbear ahead to smite!"
Biffin Rockboots |
I liked that actually. Like the rogue has her own words for coin. It made sense to me even if Biffin was confused.
"I'm not knowin' which way to go. When in doubt, guess and doon fret!"
Biffin raises his shield and tries to burst through the door to the south.
Andrus Merula |
Andrus moves up behind Biffin, his glaive held tight. He smiles warmly in reply, "Well, we'll go through all of this eventually anyway, won't we?"
GM Zer0darkfire |
Biffin Athletics: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
Biffin slams into the door and bounces back, he easily realizes that it is locked.
Xune attempts to pick the lock.
pick a lock: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 Critical Failure, tools become poor quality
pick a lock: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 Critical Failure, tools break.
Biffin Rockboots |
Biffin picks himself off the ground and laughs. "A door becomes me mightest enemy."
I hate how this tough strong dwarf gets a -5 armor penalty check to something like slamming a door. Heavy armor should make me better at it, not worse.
GM Zer0darkfire |
It actually doesn't apply here, but I didn't realize that before I rolled. "Break open" has the attack trait and ACP doesn't apply to skill checks with that tag. Even with a +5, you'd still fail to break the door down.
GM Zer0darkfire |
Olise notices that the door to the east isn’t locked, but features a crude alarm positioned just outside it, made from a number of rusted pieces of armor suspended by rope. Anyone opening the door (which swings into the hallway when opened) creates quite a clatter, which can be easily heard. Opening the door very slowly (over at least 1 full round) prevents the alarm from triggering.

Nice! Thanks for the info
GM Zer0darkfire |
DM, Xune has the assurance feat which means she can take 10. She would try that first before rolling
Oh right, you take 10 and critically fail, see previous post. lol
Andrus Merula |
A 14 is a critical fail? :P
"The lock is a rather complex one? Seems rather convenient, that whoever laid out this place aims to channel us through the eastern passage." Rather redundantly, he adds, "Be wary/"
He waits for Biffin or Varidgas to take the lead before moving up behind them.
Biffin Rockboots |
"I got this!" Biffin barges his way to the front of the group, but sees the contraption on the door. He goes through very slow to avoid setting anything off, and then raises his shield in case an enemy awaits within.
GM Zer0darkfire |
No one rolled a 14 Andrus. Taking 10 in this edition ignores bonuses and penalties so it only ever gives a 10 (more with higher training)
GM Zer0darkfire |
The group moves into a hallway, from here you can see that it continues south towards a doorway. It also features another hallway toward the east. To the northeast, you see steps carved directly out of natural rock that lead into a large cavern.
This large sunken chamber is more cavern than worked stone, and the tangle of damp flagstones underfoot provides an uneven surface. Water and slime drips from the walls, seeping in through narrow cracks above. A crude fire pit sits in the middle of the room, surrounded by filthy mats of fur and fungus. The stench of warm, wet bodies hangs faintly in the air, underlying the smell of overcooked meat.
You see three goblins standing around a cooking fire, "Goblins cook and goblins eat, skin the horse and devour its meat. Steal the baby, fry it up, people die and fill us up. Goblins bubble and goblins brew, stir it up, we get the stew, we be goblins, you be food!"
They don't seem to have noticed you yet.
Biffin Rockboots |
"You be dead." mutters Biffin, as he glances backwards at the others. He nods, and charges in to open up the battle!

"FORWARD! Strike down evil!"
After hearing the disgusting song the goblins were singing, Biffin has no choice! He rushes the room to end such evil actions.
Action 1: Charge! (moves 25 feet)
Action 2: "Have at you!" Biffins swings at the blue goblin! Warhammer Strike: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 191d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Action 3: Biffin raises his shield and awaits the counter-attack! Raises AC to 17, with 5 damage reduction if I block the first hit, which I will plan on doing.
GM Zer0darkfire |
Biffin smacks the first goblin so hard that it immediately gets knocked out.
Xune hurls daggers into the cavern, but misses the remaining goblins completely.
The orange goblin runs at Biffin screaming something in goblin while he pulls out a dogslicer and swings it. Dogslicer: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5. The dogslicer slams into Biffin's shield with a loud *CLANG* and leaves it dented.

Olise moves ahead and hustles down the stairs. Before she reaches the bottom, though, she begins chanting and turning her hands, one over the other, as if she were forming a ball out of clay. As she chants and molds, a brilliant green little orb appears and starts to grow. In no time, the orb is the size of an apple, and Olise tosses it at the goblin in red rags.
Action 1: Move 25ft
Actions 2+3: Verbal and Somatic actions to cast Acid Splash on red goblin
Acid Splash (spell roll) vs. TAC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Mona the Magnificent |
Mona runs up to the stairs, sees that she doesn't have enough room to properly get inside to do anything, and pouts.
"Fine. I'll just be hear with my bird," she says, cupping her hands together and reopening them to reveal a dove inside.
Action 1 move 25 feet

Vardigas Hackles |
"More foes to face? What a glorious day!" Vardigas leaps into action and runs into the room with his greataxe drawn, fixing his attention on the red goblin to his left before aiming a ferocious swing at its center of mass.
2 move actions to get into position, 1 to Strike.
Strike (Greataxe): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage (Greataxe): 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 slashing
Andrus Merula |
Seeing Vardigas take down the red-garbed goblin effortlessly, Andrus dashes into the room and swings his glaive at the orange-garbed one.
double move, strike
glaive, IC: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10 dmg: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 = 12
edit: reaction: the first ally within 30ft gets hit, Andrus will spend one spell point to activate divine ward to redirect up to 2hp of damage to himself instead.
GM Zer0darkfire |
Red Goblin gets brutally hacked to pieces by Vardigas' greataxe.
Andrus misses, his glaive sending sparks flying off a parry from orange's dogslicer.
Olise hurls a glob of acid into the goblins fire creating a spectacular light show for a brief moment.
The goblin commando moves next to Vardigas while pulling out his horsechopper and directs his goblin ally to "scuttle" to the side of Biffin. He then attempts a brutal slash at Vardigas! horsechopper: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 but completely misses him!
The goblin pyro chants something in goblin while pulling out a club and the ground around the PCs becomes covered in grease! DC 15 Acrobatics check: Success treats it as difficult terrain, Critical Success lets you treat it as open terrain, Failure is stay stationary or fall and your turn ends?, Critical Failure is fall over and turn ends.

I'm REALLY not a fan of the rules making us do skill check for a spell rather than a savings throw. Every character with an armor check penalty is going to really hate grease. It seems too OP since I am rolling a -7 on this.
acrobatics: 1d20 - 7 ⇒ (3) - 7 = -4
Biffin collapses in the grease.
page 144 in the rulebook for maintain balance (which is what Grease forces a check on)... there is no critical failure for this, fyi. A failure means you fall. Doesn't say anything about your turn ended but I would assume so
GM Zer0darkfire |
Oh! I was reading the "Balance" rule under acrobatics, didn't even see "maintain balance" as a separate thing. Seems odd that they are different checks lol
Success and Critical Success seem funtionally the same, you don't fall.
Failure, you fall (does not end turn).
Biffin Rockboots |
If falling doesn't end my turn, Biffin will keep going... and then I still get three actions?? Now it doesn't seem powerful enough!
Biffin curses upon falling, but stands back up, swings, and puts his shield up.
Warhammer Strike at orange: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 211d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Andrus Merula |
acrobatics: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (6) - 4 = 2
Andrus was caught by surprise and his feet slides out from under him. He lands hard on the floor.
GM Zer0darkfire |
Sorry for the delay, especially since Biffin killed the enemy in between PCs!
Biffin's warhammer comes smacking down into the goblins head, causing him to spin in the air before crashing into the ground.

Andrus gets up on his feet very gingerly, and carefully steps out of the grease patch. Then he shortens his grip on his glaive and swings at the (yellow) goblin.

Vardigas Hackles |
Vardigas looks down with a triumphant grin at the greasy ground beneath his boots. "I don't need to run to fight you," he shouts at the yellow goblin in front of his face before channeling his rage and bringing his greataxe around for another bout of ferocious swings.
Strike (Greataxe): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Damage (Greataxe): 1d12 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
1 action to rage, 2 actions for Strikes.
Olise Goldear |
Olise stands with her hands ready to weave the spell to call an animal ally into existence. As soon as an opening appears, she begins the spell. With much focus and a few large beads of sweat, the halfling calls into being the mortal enemy of goblins everywhere: Penelope the Pony!
All 3 Actions: Cast Summon Natures Ally to summon a pony!
Penelope materializes directly in front of the goblin pyro and immediately strikes at the creature with her hooves.

Hoof: 1d20 + 4 - 5 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 5 = 18 Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
GM Zer0darkfire |
Andrus makes an expert slash at the Goblin Commando, knocking it off balance. Vardigas quickly flattens the Commando into the floor with a massive swing.
Olise summons a horse to attack the Goblin Pyro. Its first hoof misses, but its second slams into the pyro's chest.
Mona fires an arrow, but instead of the goblin disappearing, her arrow does!
The Goblin Pyro then moves around the horse to unleash a brilliant blast of fire at the party! Burning Hands!
