CMD is replaced by checks being based off of your saving throw. In the case of grappling, the initiator rolls an athletics check vs the targets Fort DC (10+Fort save bonus).

Both of Vardigas attacks miss the bugs! Did you forget the MAP or do you have an ability to swing twice at full bonus?

Poison courses through the barbarian's veins dealing 1d6 ⇒ 1 poison damage and makes Vardigas Flatfooted

Luckily for Biffin, being wrapped up and grabbed by a creature does not make his aim any worse as he manages to smash the red bug's head to a pulp causing it to fall off of him.

Andrus does his best to calm his heavily beating heart. Finding himself trapped between two of the giant bugs is not a good place to be. "Shelyn, please protect your servant." Try as he does, he finds himself panicking as he swings wildly at the bug between him and Xune, with increasing desperate strikes.

Olise cheers as Andrus fells another of the centipedes. Inspired by his valor, she rushes in behind the grayish centipede and jabs at it with her staff. "Bad bug! Stop hurting my friends!" She then steps aside to let Xune in. "Come on, Xune! Help us take this one out!"

Action 1: Stride 15ft to get in flank with Vardigas
Action 2: Strike with quarterstaff two-handed (grants d8 damage)
Action 3: Step away to open up the flank position for Xune

"Great work, Xune! I knew you'd finish the job." Olise smiles and bounces on her toes as the last of the bugs flees from Biffin. "Now, where were we? Oh! Let's see what's going on with those goblins in there!"

Olise moves to the next chamber and reaches out for any signs of magic in the area.

Andrus swings at the retreating bug, even though it is out of reach even for his glaive. Thank you, Shelyn. Eventually, he catches his breath and still his pounding heart. Looking around at his teammates, he examines them for their wounds. "Is everyone ok?"

"Huh! Okay. Well, there are some creepy nasty fungi in the next room. I think I know how to deal with those, but they seem pretty aggressive. Should I check it out?" Olise begins moving toward the last side chamber, then stops suddenly. "Oh! By the way, if anybody needs any more healing, I brought along some really great berries that I can magic up so that they can help! Just give me a few minutes okay?"

If we're willing to wait the 10 minutes, Olise will cast goodberry to create 1 berry which, when eaten with an Interact action, gives as much nourishment as a square meal for a typical human and restores 1d4 Hit Points plus my spellcasting ability modifier (4).

"Let's save your divine berries first?" Andrus smiles warmly to Olise in appreciation. He grasps the medallion of a songbird that is hanging around his neck, closes his eyes to concentrate and mutters a series of prayers. A wave of energy burst from him, healing Olise, Vardigas and himself of part of their wounds.

All gain 4 hp.

Actually, since goodberries last a day, why not cast all of them now and spread them around?

GM: Yeah, it actually seems helpful now that your ability score gets added in!
Andrus: I was just having the same thought, but wanted to make sure nobody had an objection to me sitting around for 40 minutes while I magicify some berries. :D

If no one objects to her taking the time, Olise sits down on the cave floor and has Maizy hop down off her pack. "Maizy," she says to the sentient ear of corn, "Could you please lend us some kernels?"

Corn-based body horror:
The leshy looks suspiciously at the others at first, but soon shrugs her leafy shoulders and plucks four kernels from near the top of her body, leaving a gap in the side of her head like the smile of person with poor dental hygiene. A shimmering golden-green light spills out from the gap, revealing the magic that animates and sustains the leshy. With a little squeak of a sigh, Maizy teeters on her feet and leans against Olise for support.

"Thank you, Maizy! That's all I'll need for today. Why don't you hope back up in my pack and relax for a bit?" The corn obliges, and Olise begins chanting and waving her hands over the kernels she has set out before her.

A little over half an hour later, Olise hands four glowing golden kernels of corn to her new friends. "Here you go! You guys keep these. I probably won't be getting too close to the fighting from now on. Eat those whenever you feel hurt, and Maizy's magic will heal you right up!"

Vardigas looks on, somewhat abashed by Maizy’s self-mutilation for the party’s benefit. “Incredible! What a devoted little corn-baby! I must consume its offering so I might grow strong again,” he concludes, wincing at the severity of his wounds. He’s in much rougher shape after that fight than the others.


There were some things you could not unsee, and watching the horror the life left Xune's face as she realized she would never quite be the same. Her left eyebrow was twitching uncontrollably as she plucked her share of the tasty kernels, and mechanically somehow stored it in her front vest pocket.

"I... uh can heal myself, so why not the rest of you take the... kernels." Andrus looks faintly disturbed, and is glad he has found an excuse not to use them.

Playtest Character 2

Olise smiles and nods her head, "You're welcome, Biffin! I hope they help. Now, how about these weird fungi..." She moves further along in the chamber to investigate the fungus room again. She moves in as close as she dares, then works to brush aside the tendrils and stalks in such a way as not to disturb them. Before she begins, she casts a spell to give herself guidance in the attempt.

Action 1+2: Somatic and Verbal action to cast Guidance
Action 3: Interact action to attempt to disable the spores

Survival, Guidance: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 1 = 11
I think I can do better. I'd like to use my Lucky Halfling ancestry feat to reroll that skill check.

Then again, I could always do worse...

"Yipe! Okay, I'm getting out of here. Just thought I'd check things out. Never know where this Drakus stowed his treasures." Olise backs out of the room and swipes the sweat from her brow. "Whew! That was crazy," she says. "Well, now that's done, let's move on."

For the coming Exploration mode, Olise will be casting dancing lights and concentrating to move the lights along with the group.

@Olise, just keep in mind that casting a spell is a fatiguing exploration activity, however it won't be 10min before your next encounter.

The group finds nothing else of interest or value in the room, but Talga leads you to the long hallway, "I don't know what be doing behind Drakus door, too scary to look. Good goblin luck goes with you." she says as she pokes her head around from behind the entryway.

One of the frontliners opens the door, the sound of dripping water echoes through this chamber. On the north side of the room, a nearly ten-foot-tall visage of a woman’s face is carved into the wall. Trickles of water run down her cheeks like tears into a foul and polluted reservoir below, which itself drains to a large pool of fetid black water on the south side of the room.

Perception check in the water, DC 15:

You find an idol that is about the size of a human head and depicts a goddess perched upon a throne of bones.

"Oh my! This water looks awful," Olise exclaims as she peers over the stagnant pool. "And from such a wonderful fountain! How sad."

Xune wades into the chest high water, picks up the idol, and then walks back onto the dry stone.

You all see the water very slowly begin to clear up, but you can tell it will take some time for the the water to be completely clean.

This is an idol dedicated to the goddess of nightmares and mother of demons, Lamashtu.


Her body came out of the water and caused weaker creatures to shudder, the pure sexiness of her form seeming to cleanse the foul waters "Huh? Yeah, I guess...thought it was going to be worth more."
