Radavel's Untitled Campaign

Game Master Radavel

Liberty's Edge

The infamous inquisitor, Seth Loki, arrives once more at the Tricorn Palace on Scintilla, the only survivor of his latest venture. What else is new. Now he needs new fodder for a scheme he is concocting. Suffice it to say, his prudish, puritanical brethren wants evidence so they can sanction him. But those of a radical bent argue that he delivers results.

Whatever you are, Seth Loki will be conducting interviews.

This is a 40K in character recruitment thread. In other words, before I hand out the character generation mechanics, you'd have to pass the job interview.

Interrogator Kaplan has many contacts and would be happy to furnish the honorable inquisitor with investigators, psychics, rogue traders, cannon fodder, or skilled members of a strike force if the inquisitor would provide more details on his needs.

Which system? Dark Heresy I assume, but I can do Rogue Trader, Only War, Deathwatch, or even Black Crusade if you're a really radical inquisitor.

Dark Heresy 1st edition

"Let us say that the mission will require finesse."

An undercover mission to be precise.

Interrogator Kaplan will comb his dossiers and find a suitable candidate or two for the honorable inquisitor.

At work right now but I'll look at my books when I get home and see what strikes my fancy

Random Rolls:
1.75m, 60kg, 34yo, grey hair, fair skin, brown eyes, with facial scars and wide tribal tattoos around his shoulders, biceps, and forearms. Hunter's oath superstition.

Divination: "There are no civilians in the battle for survival"

Name: Zek

An old scarred veteran guardsman enters the room and stands at attention until given leave to relax. His face bears obvious signs of some clawed beast's attack across his fair, but weather beaten skin. He wears his grey-shot black hair cropped close and tight on the sides, in the fashion of an active guardsman, despite his lack of insignia or formal uniform.

His garb resembles a combat uniform more than anything else, with patched and reinforced trousers tucked into heavy boots. With his shirtsleeves rolled up to the bicep, swirling black tattoos cover his arms and disappear under his shirt. He remains alert even at parade rest, eyes scanning the room and ears pricked for movement from behind.

"Zek. Guardsman, rank Conscript, of the 121st Battalion, 23rd Corps Infantry. Discharged and ready for service, sir!" His voice is clear and confident, gravelly from years of shouting and hard life.

Liberty's Edge

"Speak to me of your record, Zek. What were your duties as a member of 121st Battalion?" Inquisitor Seth Loki looks at you intently, the well-worn hilt of a sword jutting from behind his right shoulder.

The next man to enter the room is a tall, gangly man, with twinkling eyes, a light step and lips that seems to twitch into a half smile despite the better effort to stop himself.

While not allowed to carry any weapons in the Inquisitors presence, he had a pair of matching holsters strapped to his hips, and on occasion his fingers hands would reach for them, clearly missing the weight.

"Liam McGregor yer lordship, late o' the Gunmetal city reclamation core, an' ah'm sure pleased tha' be 'ere an' all.
Ya need sumthing fixed but don' wanna wait fer them red robes, all ya gotta do is point tha' finger an' ah'll jump to it."

Sczarni

"Sir. I served as lasgunner and heavy stubber support Guardsman. For a short time, I also served as assistant squad leader following the Battle of Lords Secundus, when our platoon leader, commisar, and most of our squad leadership were slain in a heretic's mortar strike."

Zek does not move from his parade rest position, as he rattles off several more examples of his time as a line infantry gunner.

"The Guard cashiered me out, regs on age and length of service, they said. So I got my pension funds, and been looking for Imperial service since then. Here I am, sir. Ready to serve, as you need."

No promises, but since i started a home game, where i am a ranged assassin, im thinking of applying here... :P so will see

Grizzly, almost seems more machine than man, red robes (Liam ;) ), pipes, machines, implants, lenses, too many to name, the half man half machine speaks. His voice, hollow, empty, monotonous

"The Machine-Spirit guided me here. Services needed. I obey. Request audience with the Inquisitor called Seth Loki."

Interrogator Kaplan returns with an accordion file slung under one arm.

"Ah, inquisitor, I was just looking for you. I think I have the perfect candidate." He rifles through his file and produces a small stack of papers. He hands them over for perusal, the first page is a basic biographical with an attached pict of the candidate, a kaff ring marks part of the page. The pict is high quality and taken at a low angle, snapped surreptitiously by some agent. The subject is a bit on the tall side, but hard to place exactly from the pict, and lean. He has black hair and deep green eyes and a disarming kind of smile. Well dressed, clearly aristocracy, holding a glass of amasec in one hand and talking to someone just out of frame. He appears to be in his early to mid-twenties and is good looking, well proportioned and symmetrical features.

"That," Kaplan gestures "is one Roderick Kaplan." The interrogator looks up briefly, "no relation. He's sector nobility, lives on Scintilla now but has hopped around a bit. Family made money as rogue traders before intermarrying and getting land and position, I believe one of his fourth cousins still runs the old fleet. He's the third son of a third son, but wealthy and has some connections. Roderick first came to our attention during an investigation into a pleasure cult, details on the arbites report page 3 and the inquisitorial report page 9. The boy, well I say boy but he's older than he looks, probably in his late thirties what with rejuvenat treatments. Anyway, the boy had gotten bored rich kid syndrome and with a few friends started hunting gangers for sport, not the safest game to be sure. We looked into it and found no personal connection to the Ruinous Powers, but pulling that thread did unravel a bit of the tapestry. The full details are on page 14, but it seems that the father of one of the other hunters was loosely tied to said pleasure cult. Well, we purged the cult and a few more that may have been compromised, young Roderick got rounded up and interrogated but ruled clean by Inquisitor Valen. We decided to let the boy off and keep him on tap until we found a use for him."

Kaplan nods, "Anyway, just give the word and I can have him brought here for an interview within the hour."

** spoiler omitted **

A slim attendant, one that would have been described as desirable, if not for the fact that you are of the Mechanicum, beckons you to follow.

Moments later you are ushered into the inquisitor's presence.

Seth Loki, the inquisitor, is wearing what appears to be an ancient power armor; while across his back is stowed a force sword.

"Greetings, magos, you have sought me and here I am. You are here for a position in my retinue. I have to warn you: service to me is often fatal. You may back out now without loss of honor."

Continuing with the hollow voice, he replies

"My service is to the Machine-Spirit, what it calls me to do, i will do. Even in death we serve"

Liam grins bashfully, scratching the back of his head.
"Yes yer worship, Gunmetal city is nice an' all, but ya gots tha' widen yer sights some no?
Ah was rec'uted by tha' brotherhood of Thollos thanks th' my winning ways.
An' that meant goin' whereas ah was needed."

"Is like that song Oh Ah've been to lind, Ah've been to Merov an' Alactra and Clove. But fer all mah travel, mah 'eart still in Gunpoint."

"Fine words, magos. But are you willing to do what must be done to save mankind?"

"Have you had any run-ins with the Arbites?"

"Erm...once or twice yer worship, but it seems like they couldna find any 'ard evidence fer anything...
Th' be fair, ah was mainly 'elpin' wiv repairs an' gathering inf'rmation, nothin' STRICTLY illegal 'bout that anyways..."

Liberty's Edge

"Just once or twice? Is that your final answer?"

"Well, yeah, ain't ever seen tha' inside o' a cell, though been in the in'rgation chamber once or twice...
They offered me a chance tha' walk if'n ah rolled o'er on tha' rest, but ah knew they 'ad nothin' on me.

An' even if'n they 'ad, Ah'd not said anything.

"Sir, I will do whatever is required of me. The xenos scum, the mutant, the heretic, they all threaten right thinking people everywhere. The Emperor Protects, and I am a tool of his wrath."

Dark memories cross Zek's mind, war zones battled through, friends and allies slain in horrific fashion, terrors unknown in the civilized world.

"I fight and slay at the command of my betters, Sir. There is not a place I won't go or a task I won't undertake in the furtherance of civilization."

I am satisfied with all the offerings thus far made. I will recruit everyone who has put forward their interest. In this regard, please make characters as per DH 1st ed. In addition to that, use an additional 2,000 XP to round out your characters abilities and skill set. You are greatly encouraged to avail of the background packages.

Also, I will offer each character a choice of equipment.

Finally, all players will vote on which ordos inquisitor Seth Loki serves. Though it is entirely possible Seth Loki doesn't serve a particular ordos. This will determine the entire theme of the game.

Recruitment Closed. Discussion Thread to follow.
