Alright, what to do about the animals. Saranie's dog isn't much of an issue. I can easily see him/her being with you and coming along just fine. Getting down will take a little bit or work, but nothing too problematic. Perhaps the trip was a little more disorienting for them. It wasn't meant for animals after all.

The other animals though, like the mule, are a bit trickier. Could they have been inside the chamber or close enough, sure. I've known adventures to do stranger things than bring a mule into a dungeon. Still, it isn't the most likely. If you want it, it's there. As for getting it 30ft down, do you have enough rope?

Yes we ended up on the platform resting.
As to the animals, I am fine with my horse having been left behind (oops) or having traveled across , perhaps the same item which transported us transported them and they are somewhere nearby lost in the darkness.

I never take Horse or mules into dungeons, the very first character death I ever saw in an RPG , about 30 years ago was my mothers character being kicked by the mule/horse we were trying to get underground. Never again.

As to the GM disappearance, I have vanished more thoroughly while running games for much less of a good reason and for longer so I can't complain

Woo, glad to be back! With Saranie leaving we should definitely open up recruitment for an arcane character.

As for rope, I have 50' of silk rope and a grappling hook.

Pavo brings up a really good point. What are people's thoughts on recruiting a new player(s)? I'd like everyone's input on this. Any particular classes or archtypes you'd like to see? Myself, class/party balance isn't a big concern.

Staveon emphasizes the words a little too heavily, nodding, like he would to a child. His skill at subtlety is... terrible, at present. It's pretty obvious he's trying to get the elf to just agree with him - out-loud, not actually agree with him - and to walk away from the strange ragged man.

"Uh... it's because we change so fast! Right! See, I was really young at the time... or something... so, um, you probably just don't recognize me. Yeah, that's it."

He turns and waves at the priest now that they've walked some distance away - out of normal ear-shot.

"Thanks again for finding my friend! The River Rat guide you!" he calls out loudly; then, more quietly, "Look, sorry for the display, but, uh you'll want to walk this way, kind of fast, if possible. I - oh, crap, my critters. Look, uh, wait here a minute. Don't... don't talk to anyone while I'm gone." Staveon hurries his mules and dogs over. He makes some introductions: "Lucky, Furball, Haughty, and Jimmy" he explains, succinctly of the two dogs and mules.

"In any event, you're clearly not from around here. I know a place where we can stay... town's not too far north of this hamlet - and after we get some rooms, I'll tell you why you shouldn't go traveling with the priests of the River Rat..." Staveon explains, guiding her north.

Athene, Staveon would, at some point, be interested in being introduced to your horse - we can RP that, or hand-waive it at your option. From here on in, if Athene would be interested, he'd be traveling north with her. After they'd settled in, before heading to their rooms to sleep at night, he'd chat with her a bit about the River Kingdoms - nothing too deep, just some common pitfalls that all locals know and that outlanders might not, such as the danger of traveling with priests of Hanspur, the River Rat, and the necessity of such priests; he'd explain his deception and the reasons for it, and offer to travel with her - he's staying in town for a couple of weeks to resupply and to finish training his mules. We can RP or hand-waive any amount of this to your taste. Either way, if Therin is still in the Bloodstone Swords, he'd be the next one we'd come across, if Staveon's plans work out.

Pavo, with 100 ft. of rope (yours and mine), I suspect that we'd have enough rope to successfully lower the creatures. That said, GM, after reading Island in the Sea of Time, I could definitely see a few more in the broader area being affected as well: it's how Aliston got there, and she was pretty hardcore awesome! (Though I readily submit that the mechanism of the two events are entirely different from each other!)

Also, if Therin and Pavo want to do some RP stuff together for some reason before we get there, or, Pavo, if you wanted to run into Staveon or Athene first, now might be a good time to mention it! Otherwise, I'll presume that we ran into Therin next at a hair over five months prior to the game - a couple of weeks of down-time plus travel up the Sellen to the Bloodstone Swords' hold.

Also, GM, did you get my PMs as possible suggestions, both on the extra character option (from some time back), and the most recent scarred one? By the way: the name or appearance of the most recent one needn't be maintained, and it needn't be ever truly explained: I'm a big fan of "here's the mechanics, now here's what it looks like in the game" if you want to do something else/it works better for the game and style you've presented. For myself, I'm all for more players if others are okay with it.

At the moment Athene is most interested in finding some sign of civilization and making friendly contact. She has some natural interest in examining local wildlife to see what is new to her.

GM Reaction to some likely events:

She will be badly effected if we come across one of the old cities , first she will be impressed by the scale, and offended by how it pushed nature out of the way. Then if she realises they are now giant boneyards , she will be sickened and make every effort to avoid entering one.

Also no preference about recruiting a new character or what sort of character we recruit if we do (vague preference for no gunslingers or Synthesist Summoners). While a full caster would be different I think we can manage without one.

Also while travelling we should probably move more slowly and allow myself and Therin to make Survival checks to keep us fed, avoids using up rations we will need if we do need to move fast and also means the two rangers will be patrolling around and finding things as we move.

Staveon, I prefer to keep Pavo's background loose and general. I like the specifics of a character to develop organically over the course of a campaign. I'd rather focus on the world we are in now than the specifics of how we came together in the past. I'm assuming we met on the road and have been traveling together for a couple years as has been stated in the flavor text of the campaign.

And I think an arcane character would not only round out the group mechanically, but it would also add in the interesting facet of how our change of locale has effected magical ability.

Okay, thanks for the heads up. Something to remember, which can be easy to forget, they only work if you tied them on first. With wrist sheaths that shouldn't be much of an issue, but between the two you're forearms might look fairly odd. Two feet of loose cord doesn't conceal well.

Arrows didn't take down those nasty ghoul things. Those were my frost rays.

I didn't pull out an ever-burning torch. I created dancing lights.

I didn't lay hands on Therin and Pavo to heal them. I used up two precious charges on my new cure light wounds wand. You're welcome.

And, Therin, I definitely saw that watch pouch before you did ... even if you did somehow end up holding it. Hey, could I have it back to hang onto for a while? I want to examine those watches. Please?

I should have done this earlier. Everyone, please welcome Mina, who will be retroactively taking Saranie's place.

Since Pavo and Athene are going to be busy during the weekend, and Pavo in particular has an important part to play in the immediate future, now is a good time to ask questions or have something that was glossed over expanded on. When I provide information on something, it is generally just what your character notices at a glance. When you make a check, I try to give more complete information. Many times it isn't so much a case of seeing something as knowing what it means, perception checks being the exception. Anyone can see the glowing doohickey, but only someone with training or background can identify the spell or know what the object is made of.

One thing you guys have been great at is rephrasing information in the spoilers into your character's own words. Please keep doing so! I try to phrase them to fit each individual, but ultimately I'm not them, you are. And please keep having conversations between one another! Therein lies the story.

Also, I don't always remember everyone's skills, backstory, or interests. So, if one of your skills feels applicable, or you just think it would be pertinent/interesting to you character, let me know with a roll.

I have not used any as the only damage I took was none lethal from the fall

Finally! Everyone, since my sense of descriptive abilities do not fully convey the truly astounding sight, please use google maps to take a look at the San Francisco bay region of the United States. You are on the north-western edge of the city of Vallejo.

Also, please think of suburbs you know and pictures of the bay area you seen, or personal experience if you have, and how you character would react to what they are seeing. If you have particular skill checks you'd like to make to identify things, do so, or if you'd like me to describe a particular aspect in more depth, just ask.

Remember, your character doesn't think it or do it unless you post it!

By your directions and geographical reference the castle is up in the Napa Valley?  If so, which town will the road north be taking us through, surely not San Francisco?  Or are you referring to the town of Vallejo itself?

Luckily, my wife and I spent our 2nd anniversary travelling to San Francisco and the wine country in Napa/Sonoma, so I have plenty of real life experience to enhance your visual descriptions.  Bang up job so far.

San Francisco is one of the few American cities I have visited although I was only there for about 3 days , and did not travel outside the city

Sweet! Sounds awesome. ... As for San Fran, I'm afraid I've never been. I've mostly been up and down the East coast of the US. I did have a quick stopover in the LA airport once when headed to Maui for my honeymoon with Tac, though, so I've seen an overview of some of the terrain out there, but not much.

No one Expects the Elven Ninja Ranger Paladins. All Elven Paladins are stealthy its in their blood (or at least those who cross class as Rangers are ) we can sneak up on any conversation and put and arrow in it from 150 meters away
