I used to be able to speak:
* English (native language)
* Lithuanian (fluently)
* Russian (passingly)
* French (passingly)
* German (enough to survive)
* Spanish (enough to survive; better while in Miami)
* Latin, Japanese, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, and Filipino (only a few specific words and phrases)
* Chinese (look, I read fortune cookies sometimes, okay? Also "ni-how" <"hello"> and "tse-tse" <"thank you">)
Now? I, lik3 speaches teh Inglosh good seomtoms.
Alas, lack of practice over time.

Saranie of the Rising |

French is my native language; I'm fluent in english, and I know some traces of Spanish, but I've mostly forgotten what I learned over a few months of spanish classes because the Spanish teacher I had was terrible.

"I thought the party was already started." notes Staveon,, "Or else what was all that linguistic stuff we were talking about? I thought it was fun, even if I didn't understand a word of what anyone - including myself - was saying."
*there's a slight pause as understanding dawns*
"Oh. Oooooooooooooooooh. I see. You meant getting the "party" started, not "getting the party started". Right. Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. I get'ch-ya, now. Clever! Okay, yeah, that'd be pretty cool." :D

Bey-Rystar Staveon Takehiko |

Hey, speaking of party, I'm curious: do you guys want to do some official pre-game RP? Do more to establish how we know each other? We could even amend our back-stories to explain it. It would be a good way of getting the game started without quite getting the game started.
Either way, I'm thinking of editing Staveon's page substantially to make it a bit cleaner (less "this cost this much money" and more "these are the stats" as well as more plain-text explanation of my character's spoiler categories.

Bey-Rystar Staveon Takehiko |

"H'okay, so, you know, sometimes my memory is a little rusty (especially if I've been... uh... 'worshiping Cayden'... yeah... wait, wut's all th's yellow silk... meh...), so I'mma ask you guys some questions 'bout stuff. But, you know, it's just to test you - to-to-to test you're sumthin'... yeah... so, uh, queshtyuns.
F'r you guys. Not f'r me. Yeah. I love you guys. *sniff*
- Therin: how long'd we know each other in th' Bloodstone Swords b'fore I quit to work f'r that rich jerk hoo thought he c'd scam me out o' my money f'r protectin' him? I rememb'r you w're there, but it's hard to recall how long we overlapped... er, I mean, I was jus' curious'f you rememb'red. How long'd ya stay afterword? Jus' through basic trainin'? Or did ya go on an actual mishun'r two? Do you... do you... do you remember when we saw each other again? Like, we're prob'ly in Sevenarches or sommat (we are in Sevenarches... right guys? Guys? Anyone?), but... uh... how'd we get here again?
- Athene: Did we... do we... know each-oth'r? I mean, are we, like, friends'r somethin'? Elves are all tall'n weird - are you? Er... I mean, uh, how long've you been in th' Riv'r Kingdoms? Yeah. This is not testing me! Obv'sly (should I be expect'd to) I tot'lly know! I'm jus'... jus' findin' out if you know. Yeah. That's it. And *hic*- oh, 'scuse me, and I'm jus' tryin' to know how long y'r been wonderin' 'round these human lands. Cause lemme... lemme... lemme tell y'r... you need to be caref'l 'round some of these humans... they can be..." looks both ways, "... shifty iff'n y'r not careful. Oh! And... uh... do we know eachoth'r? Or did we meet? Or somthin'? Did you know I've got three deities I worship? YEP! Mah Ma says it's a little strange, but, ya know: Kurgess is awesome! Arshea is great! And so is Noc-... er... I mean, so is knockin' on people's doors first. Yeah. 'Cause that's polite and bein' a noble I'm totally always polite. *buuuuuurp* -oh, 'scuse me. Oh yeah: you been ta Hymbria yet ta get turn'd away like you used to turn others away? Hah! Oh... s'rry...
- Saranie: Now, lil' girl - oh! S'rry! I thought ya was a "wee child" instead of a "wee pers'n" - ... wait, do I know you? You look kinda familiar. Oh wait! W're you tha' "Halfling hacker" I heard 'bout some time back what did th' numb'r on those bandits over in... uh... wherever it was? That was some quality work! We - that's th' Bloodstone Swords - w're gonna be hired f'r that job, but you finished it for us! Nice. Th' captain was right ticked, but, ya know, that happens sometimes, and, you know, ya took down them bandits what w're rapin' and pillagin'. Good job! ... uh, wh're w's that again? Lambreth? My old home Mivon? Riverton? Here (I think this's "here") in the Sevenarches? Pretty sure it wasn't in Touvette or Gralton. What about Artume? That seems lik'ly, really, though ther'r a lot of possibilities. So... uh... have we met?
- Pavo: Oh, hey, kid, it's you! I like you... I think. Are you a nice guy? I like nice guys! You got fam'ly 'round here? Are you even here? Am I talkin' to m'self? Wait... wasn't th're a kid here a second ago? *fails spot-check*
... so... yeah. I'm jus'... I'm jus'... jus'... testin' you guys. Yeah. Tha's it. ... man mah head is gonna kill me in th' mornin'. I shouldn't listened t' that priestess. I don't even know if I'm gonna r'member this..."
Staveon kind of looks blearily at each of you, happily.
"Did I tell y' th't I love you guys? 'Cause I love you guys. *sniff*"

"If that incident is what you consider, as you said, "quality work", I would urge you to rethink your ideas of justice. Criminal as they may have been, I was acting out of anger, not justice. Massacres such as that one have no place in our lands. I was a fool then, but now I know better. These men deserved a fair trial and honest justice; not the barbaric wrath of a fallen paladin with a dull blade."
"Still, you must have a good eye if you can tell who I am, given the helm. I respect that some of you mercenaries and bounty hunters are keeping the roads safe for traveling folks, but I urge you not to praise me for my deepest shames."
Also, I have no idea where that might have happened. Since it's further back in her background, I had this idea that this happened before Saranie came to the river kingdoms.

@Staveon Our paths crossed just before you left for that pompous idiot. I had just finished my initial training and was assigned to a patrol unit(due to my leet tracking skilz). You were in the barracks hall, mentioning you had a "job offer that only a brain-dead ogre would refuse". Many tankards were hoisted that night to send you on your way...
And now we meet again....

Bey-Rystar Staveon Takehiko |

Hey, that works, Saranie - since she'd been looking for them since settling, and they'd more or less fled to what would be their new hometown, I'd presumed that it happened somewhere near their ultimate hometown. So, then, her town - the one she settled in - would have been elsewhere beyond the borders of the Riverkingdoms too? How does Galt or even Taldor sound? Mostly this is just a way to get into character a bit and get our characters some reason to know each other... if the GM goes with this background. Since it's not in the actual game area, it's not canon there, until we all make it so, and we have the power to negate it, sooooooooo....
"Hey, look, hun, I tol' you I washn't inebri'at'd! 'Twas th' helm't th't gave it away! I h'rd-tell y'don' take it off... s'cool. I once knew a guy wouldn't-nev'r take off his lucky undies. Smelled terr'ble, but wash a great fight'r. An' now... now... now... looksie... learnin'... er... listin' here: y' motives might'a been 'off' 's'alright? 'S'alright. But... but... but... y'know what? Dunn't matter. 'Whyzat?' Y'might ask? 'Cause y' got rid o' thugs'n' ruffians what do terrible deeds. So ya made a m'stake 'bout it - th' freaks d'served vengeance! Vengeance ain't no sin! An' if'ts a sin, well... sometimes 's a necess'ry one... like... like... like... the blaze o' dawn. Th' 'mportnt part iz jusht tha'... tha'... you g't ta realizin' whatcha did 'wrong' (an'... an' let me tell you, I ain't seein' it...) an' then jus' do 't bett'r nex' time! Boo-yaka! Eat them apples, Ma, I jus' us'd y'r wisdom! Hah! An' you said I shudn't be a pr'st*hic*-oof, a pr'st! But I'm bein' a great pr'st!"
EDIT:
"Oi! Tha' was sum great boozahol wazn'it?! An' i'z great ta see ya' 'gain, son! Le'mme... le'mme... le'mme tell ya: 'f somethin' seems too gud ta b' tru', 't proooooooob'ly is. I m'n... I m'n... I got a title. Tha's... tha's somethin', I s'ppose. I m'n, I'm greatf'l 'n'all, but... but... meh. 'S worth th' occasion'l free drink and th' abil'ty ta rub't in mah foes' faces wh'n I beat 'em f'r the right ta be 'adjudicated' by th' king - s'rry, the Prince Regent - what a pompass... arrogant... - anyway, th' pnt is th't 't's prob'ly worth it, I s'ppose, though th're aren't no benefits. Don't know that I'd want a buncha people bowin' an' scrapin' anyway, b't, 't's kinda dumb th't I'm a Bey of exactly... nothin'... an' I'm a Rysar of... myself and/or tha' imbicile (who may well be assassinated by now... not 'xactly sure... so I'd be his heir's knight, er, 'Rysar'... though I have no land in Brevoy... so sucks ta be them!" He grins broadly. "Eat th' lack of taxes, suck'rs!"
It's worth noting that Staveon isn't normally this intoxicated. He just happened to get some... ah... "special treatment" recently in one of his visits to a Daggermark temple of Calistria. Nothing dangerous or permanent (probably), just really... loosening. And thus the display you see now. Don't worry: he'll be sober throughout most of the ensuring adventure... probably, anyway. But put in more feedback!
EDIT: Sorry I didn't respond to you, Therin: you ninja'd me, and I didn't see your post! I'll blame Staveon's inebriation. :D

Okay this is going to be really rushed and only semi-coherent because it is 3:30 in the morning and I'm running on caffeine and franticness.
First, sincerest apologies for not getting things up on friday or the weekend. Was in the testing center longer than expected and then saturday turned into a much bigger project than anticipated. If I can find the genius who decided to put SEVEN layers of shingles on the roof, there will be words, or possibly just angry vocalizations. It was also very windy.
There was a post this morning. I swear. I created gameplay, pushed submit, and... goblins. Goblins everywhere.
I will read all of the discussion and recruitment and pms later today once I've gotten some sleep. Game on!
We will now return to our regularly scheduled postings of me checking every several hours while in the lab. Yay lab.

Having tracked the bandits all the way to the river kingdom from wherever she was doesn't fit with the rest of Saranie's background all that well, actually. For the sake of simplicity, let us assume the village present in her backstory is somewhere in the River Kingdom and leave it at that.
"Justice is best served by those without a vested interest. There is an order to things. My desire to avenge my family was a corrupting one. I may have found the guilty man, but I doubt I would have been much kinder to one I merely thought to be the culprit. It is not only about the results; the intention behind the arrow is just as important."

Bey-Rystar Staveon Takehiko |

That works! :D
"Well, ya know... 't w'rk'd out 'n th's case, so... y'know... s'cool w'th me... jus'... jus' do well an' y'll do well... y'know? *hic* An' y'r cool, man. Er... girlie. Er... uh... woman. Halflings're kinda weird 'cause th'y're so short 'n stuff... no offense!"

Saranie gives a hearty chuckle. "It's alright; many of us think the same of you tall folk."
By the way, Therin, would you mind putting your statblock in your alias's profile? It would be very convenient to refer to it when need be.

Bey-Rystar Staveon Takehiko |

1) I... don't actually see what you mean - where's your hp? 2) How do I do that?
I noticed in this post, for example, the guy has his status in a spoiler - is that what you mean? How does one format this?
EDIT: Hah! Ninja'd by Therin... again! Man, I'm much slower in initiative than Staveon. :D EDIT 2: And thanks for putting that up there!

Saranie of the Rising |

I forgot that I hadn't set the status block up on this character, heh. Silly me.
For an example, my "Class" field is currently: Paladin (Divine Hunter) 3 | AC 17 T 13 FF 14 | HP 28/28 | F +7 R +7 W +6 (+2 vs Fear) | Init +3
I advise against putting it in spoiler; it's bulkier and kind of ugly.

Bey-Rystar Staveon Takehiko |

Awesome! Thanks!
EDIT: By replying to Saranie's post, I was able to copy your lines and categories, and just pasted your list into my class line; I then edited to be accurate for me. Just for everyone to be aware. Thanks Saranie!

Bey-Rystar Staveon Takehiko |

Also, I went ahead and posted my second turn, just so no one is waiting on that during the next round. I've adapted my tactics above to clarify what I do in case of anything.

I do believe Staveon that you may have overindulged in alcohol. Which is strange given that the local beer is I would say experimental, certainly I hope there is still room for improvement. We only just met so it's no wonder the alcohol has taken your memories no more than 6 months ago barely time to get acquainted really. I am afraid I haven't visited any of the other elven lands , at the moment I am trying to get to know humans perhaps in a couple of decades it will be time to visit my cousins or perhaps return home.
Visiting ancient ruins full of goblins does seem to be a very human thing to do , your people seem to drawn to these sort of places perahps visiting it with you may make it clear why as it seems to me that there is nothing but dangerous creatures , dust and maybe something valuable. Personally when it comes to pretty baubles I prefer to make them myself its the effort and time that makes them valuable as gifts
Stats will be added later , limited time at work. Sorry for the limited posting trying to book a holiday is using up a lot of my spare time

"L'k... th'... th'... th' thin'... 'bout... 'bout... l'k, th' thin' 'bout... l'k." Staveon takes a swig, "L'k, I c'dn't be dr'nk off'a th's stuff. 'S pract'cly water - dec'nt, shur, b't dec'nt water! So cl'rly, 'm n't drunk!" He sniffs, examines his glass, then mutters. "'S'not lik' th' pr'stess'd slip me somethin' too dangerous... jus'... jus'... jus' prob'ly somethin' I'm not... I'm not... I'm not used to." He looks up, "So yeah! Cl'rly not drunk!" He smiles proudly at his irrefutable logic. "Th' pr'stess - er, I m'n pr'st, yeah, that's it, the pr'st - shee, she would'na - I m'n, he, yeah he - she would'na mess'd w' th' alcohol, right? 'Cause tha's all I did. 'Cause 't w's a pr'st. "Man, 'm I gonna r'gret th's h'ngover l'ter. Well play'd, m'am. Well play'd. Still n't... still n't gettin' th' tattoo, though. So hah!"
EDIT 2: Just to be clear, I've already declared my action for this turn. I'll wait to see how things suss out before declaring another. Sorry for any confusion, GM!

DM Grey |

I went with your second action. It seemed more like what Staveon would do. "Help! He's in my brain!" *Okay, kill mind-bender first, then we kill the ghoul*
Just curious, can anyone else edit the map? That's how I'd intended it to work, but I'm not super great at google-stuff. When you're declaring you actions, please feel welcome to move your person. Lines to indicate intend, movement, ect. are also useful.

Saranie wouldn't bullrush unless Athene called back that she was okay, though; that's why I asked Athene... Although, thinking about it, I guess firing an arrow at the guy is a good answer all its own.

Apologies I saw these posts in the morning. Will respond at lunchtime

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I'm just checking in from my phone. I had no idea undead were no longer immune to precision damage (which is why I tried the wand attack earlier.) That's awesome!

Bey-Rystar Staveon Takehiko |

Still praying for you guys, Pavo!
GM, is Therin actually able to do anything while paralyzed? If so: what? Or is HUs turn effectively lost this round?
EDIT: Oh, and good thinking, Athene: I would have liked to do similarly, but 1) Staveon was confused, and 2) Staveon heard "mind" and "attack", which, for a Bloodstone Sword is effectively "kill it!" as a knee-jerk reaction. Here's hoping we can learn something about these guys/this situation before too long.

DM Grey |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Behold Pavo Critical hits and Precision damage
While paralyzed Therin is unable to act, except for purely mental actions, so it is effectively lost, yes. It is an excellent time to ponder which afterlife is your likely destination.
Just so everyone is aware, a paralyzed character is vulnerable to coup-de-graces. Some foes will stop attacking a helpless target, others will focus on it exclusively. *edit. All of the guys are now paralyzed and pretty banged up. Saranie is the only thing standing between them and chow town. There is a time to panic. That time is now!
