Panish Valimer |
"Oh by Iomedae's beard..." - it is a refined/crude form of cussing that I picked-up from the Malazan Book of the Fallen (Steven Erikson) that uses deities and things they lack. Like "Death's Balls" (skeleton, he aint got any) - and in this case Iomedae's beard (which is also distinctly lacking).
Initiative 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11
DM X |
I got the map set-up last night, didn't have time to get it uploaded, decided to have some wifey time instead, I'll post it later tonight. The guardsman moved and opened a door for his action, between the front door and the door he opened is a 4' high counter. (Not ADA compliant...)
Aliandara Leloric |
Well everyone is rolling initiative so here is mine
Initiative 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Stealth 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
She will assume this is Vancaskerkin and speak to him. “Vancaskerkin, do not be started, I wish you no harm. I’ve come to warn you about your men, they are hiding something from you. They are busy with activities here in your shop that they wish to keep secret from you. Though I am afraid that if you would to confront them about this that your life might be in danger, let us help you”
Bluff 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Sgt. Drakus |
Sgt Drakus will enter the door, looking to make sure Panus is alright. Then he will go behind the counter looking for Vancaskerkin.
If anyone tries to cross us, he will first intimidate them with a look.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 2 = 28
Panish Valimer |
Panish urges Sgt Drakus on; "I'm fine, just push on fast - we must try to subdue the deserters before anybody is seriously harmed."
Panish hopes to find a large body of deserters and get them to surrender before they can muster a formidable resistance. Panish attempts to trip the guardsman at the door to prevent him from proceeding and alerting other deserters.
The trip attempt possibly provokes, depending on whether the guardsman has a weapon to hand and is proficient with it and isn't surprised by the attempt of the priest. Physically the attempt is done by pushing the deserter with a shield from behind in an attempt to throw him sufficiently of balance to fall over.
Trip 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Sollus Cornelian |
Sollus is uncertain as to what is going on in the room he is entering, so he casts guidance on Sgt Drakus, and moves in behind him, crossbow at the ready. The Sergeant sounds quite intimidating, and he doesn't want to add his less-gruff voice to the fray and possibly undermine the man's attempts at talking the fight out of them. +1 to his next attack roll, saving throw or skill check in the next minute.
I'll be out of state and with spotty internet access until Saturday, feel free to run my character until then. He uses the command spell to either make a member of an opposing group flee in such a way as to provoke AoOs or to stop a fleeing person we want to capture for a round or so.
Sgt. Drakus |
Blast it! I was too slow!
Sgt Drakus runs up to the door and tries to smash it open before it could be secured.
I think this would be a Strength vs. the target DC (probably higher than I would like)
Strength check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
DM X |
Drakus runs across the room, and slips around the corner; he impacts into the door at a slight angle causing the impact to be ineffective.

Listen 20:
Sgt. Drakus |
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20
"Warblade! Front and center! We need to take this door together!"
He makes exaggerated hand signs to the rest of the squad to watch for flankers.
Panish Valimer |
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
Panish carefully eyes the door, ascertaining what he feels is its weakest point then attempts to charge his shoulder into it in an attempt to break the door.
Strength: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
To whomever holds the door on the other side: "Your false hearts have been exposed - surrender now if you wish to experience Iomedae's mercy!"
Marra "The Phoenix" Warblade |
Drakus, you realize someone shut the front door also? So Marra would have to open it, but she's gonna have her hands full taking care of the flanker
As Marra rounds the corner toward the front door, another former guardsman rounds the corner from the opposite direction. Marra gives a wicked grin, made even more fearsome from her scarred face, she begins to spin and twist her Falcata in a dizzying display, she twists and twirls the blade.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Intimidate
DM X |
The guardsman notices how Marra's feet drag in the mud causing her to misstep at least once...he charges Marra with his longsword.
Attack roll:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Damage roll:1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Marra barely catches the blade with her shield as he advances.
Between the Shoulder assault of Panish and Drakus, you hear the bar on the other side crack a bit.
Sgt. Drakus |
Aliandara Leloric |
Aliandara lifts her hands up defensively and its clear to see she is no threat all dressed in peasants’ clothes. “Please don’t hurt me. I’ve come to tell you, the meat that they give away every day to the beggars; I do not know what they have told you about this. But I have reason to believe that there is something much more behind it than charity. And I believe you to be a good man, as they seem to try and keep this a secret from you. My friends have come to this place to check out our suspicions, but I believe you to have nothing to do with this. Please come with me as I am not sure what will happen”
Sollus Cornelian |
Drakus, you realize someone shut the front door also? So Marra would have to open it, but she's gonna have her hands full taking care of the flanker
I posted that Sollus closed the door only after the group had entered, if you want to adjust that and have her inside. If you want her to stay outside, the door will remain open, since Sollus was specifically waiting for all to enter.

Marra was not with the others, she had been around the corner watching over Aliandara, she specifically wasn't with the others.
Panish Valimer |
Perception 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Depending on whether Panish hears Marra in distress outside the door he will either abandon the barrier in front of him to aid Marra, or he'll aid Drakus in breaking the door. Panish feels certain he has found the right angle on the door and points it out to Drakus.
Strength (Aid vs break door) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
What the hell? I should've played a world-breaking barbarian. My strength-checks are apparently golden. Noticing stuff.... not so much.
Panish Valimer |
Perception 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
Strength (Aid for Drakus) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Shouting: "I can feel it. This door is about to fall - and then Iomedae may show mercy to your souls - I can only hold *The Breaker* at bay for so long before he tears a place apart."
Bluff 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Sollus Cornelian |
Having been confused as to the position of Marra, Sollus re-opens the door while muttering an invocation to Abadar.
Move action to open the front door, standard action to cast guidance on the Sergeant again, for a +1 to his next attack roll, saving throw or skill check (in the next minute). It doesn't do crap for a Strength check, but he's not thinking clearly...
DM X |
Drakus and Panish make a Balance check (DC15) to not fall as the door has no resistance as the bar had been removed. (so you guidance might help afterall)
Sollus the door opens smoothly.
Aliandara:
Sgt. Drakus |
Great, Balance means Acrobatics.
Acrobatics check vs DC15: 1d20 - 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) - 3 + 1 = 0
Sgt. Drakus humiliatingly falls prone. Thanks be to Abadar that Warblade wasn't here to see it.
DM X |
Huh, my posts from last night for outside seem to have not posted. No problem I'll re-roll them.
Luckily Panish's bluff seems to have worked, as the two guardsmen have moved back and are holding their weapons in a defensive manner, though now seeing "The Breaker" prone in front of them has bolstered their resolve.
Panish Valimer |
Panish stands up, readying his sword and setting his shield - prepared to attack should one of the butchers prove hostile and within range; "Oh now you've done it - I will not take responsibility for what happens next. This blood is on your hands!"
Bluff to aid Sgt. Drakus should he perform Intimidate
Bluff (to aid) 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Sgt. Drakus |
Sgt. Drakus slowly rises to his feet, his face red with embarassment.
He fixes his eyes on the two guardsmen.
"Sgt. Drakus to see Sgt. Vancaskerkin. I need to see him. Now."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Plus whatever Panish gives me.
Sgt. Drakus |
Sgt Drakus strides forward and lashes forward with the butt of his trident.
Nonlethal trident attack: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 4 = 23
Critical threat, confirm for double damage: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 7 - 4 = 9
Nonlethal trident damage if hit: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
