Queen Ileosa |

Queen Ileosa sits upon the Crimson Throne. She is a vision of celestial beauty despite the black mourning dress and veil she wears in honor of her husband’s death. A small silver coffer sits in her lap.
The throne room itself is pristine but strangely empty—an open area with a vaulted ceiling, stained glass windows of past kings and
queens looking down from the eastern wall, and crimson tapestries hanging along the others. An immense fireplace offers additional light and heat to the hall, and a silk carpet provides a gently arching path to the throne’s base. Sabina takes the brooch from you and hands it over to her queen with a flourish, then takes up a position at the throne’s left side as Ileosa addresses you.
“This brooch was stolen from me some time ago — I had not expected to see it again, truth be told. And yet, here on my darkest day, you come before me with kindness. The return of this brooch is much more than an honorable deed. It is inspiration. It is hope. “I love Korvosa, as my husband did before me. His death has shocked the city as it has me, but I will not see his legacy destroyed in death, and I shall not see my city torn apart. All Korvosa stands at the precipice of a disaster wrought by her citizens—these riots cannot continue. You have already done my heart a great service in returning this bauble to me on this dark day, and you shall be rewarded. Yet, perhaps you can serve your city more."
"And you two, you have aided the city, assisting my guards and even the hell knights in quelling the riots, but with an even hand of kindness, not the overwhelming hand of tyranny, for this I must commend you. For these brave acts you shall also be rewarded."
“If you so choose, I shall have Sabina see to it that you have an escort of guards when you leave here—they can see to your safe journey to Citadel Volshyenek. I shall send word ahead of you to Field Marshal Cressida Kroft to let her know you are on the way—the Korvosan Guard is stretched thin, and it can certainly use the aid of heroes such as yourself. Now, I need to retire to my personal quarters — my grief has drained me. Again, I thank you for the kindness you have shown me, and I hope your days of serving the crown are only just beginning.”
With this, the queen directs Sabina to hand over the reward for returning the brooch—the bodyguard swiftly does so, handing the small silver chest to Pavo. She also takes an additional piece of velvet from the queen, and hands it to Sollus.
Pavo:
Sollus:

Sabina Merrin |

"Feel free to discuss this amongst yourselves, and introductions of course are in order...I shall take you to your rooms, where you can gather your weapons, the clothing you've received is of course yours now."
She escorts you to your rooms, which are across the hall from each other.
"I shall return when the Bell strikes 9." with that she turns and leaves.

Pavo Alazario |

Pavo, not normally one to be left without words, simply gazes upon the Queen in awe at her beauty. If I had known so many beautiful women inhabited this place, I would have made a visit sooner. the young sorcerer thinks to himself as he graciously accepts the coffer and gives the Queen a deep bow, with a scampering Alistar quickly adjusting to avoid fallin, and says, "I can not speak for my compatriots, but I am at your service Your Majesty."
Once everyone are out in front of their rooms, Pavo turns to the new arrivals and say, "Greetings, I am Pavo Alazario, wizard and nobleman and this... as he motions to the small capuchin rmonkey resting on his shoulders,"...is Alistar."

![]() |

Sollus choose to remain silent, merely giving whatever level of bow seems appropriate to the audience (carefully avoiding making a spectacle of himself) and nodding in gratitude as the queen's seneschal hands over the reward. His eyebrows dip slightly at the heft of the golden bars, but he fixes a smile to his face and bows his head again.
Out of the presence of the Queen, which, frankly, terrified him, he finally regains his focus and as Sabine leaves them together for a time, he listens attentively to Pavo's introduction and responds somewhat distractedly.
"And I am Sollus Cornelian, from the Bastion of Abadar. It is a pleasure to meet you as well." The greeting seems fairly ritualized, and doesn't really match up to Pavo's words, and Sollus turns to face Tamarie, unfolding the velvet to reveal four golden ingots.
"I am uncertain as to why these were handed to me, but I'm sure that I was meant to share them with you." he says, handing Tamarie two of the ingots.

Pavo Alazario |

With a smile, Pavo says "I had made my decision known already, but would be glad to say once more. I am here to serve Korvosa and to that effect, her ruler, be they man or woman." Then rapidly changing moods, Pavo continues, "However, I have business I must attend to first. Specifically the burial of my dead sister. I can not allow her spirit to be at ill ease any longer. I must return her to my family so that they may have piece of mind that the man who took her is now in a much worse place. as such, I ask that you let me return to my sister's body so that preparations can be made."

Tamarie |

and Sollus turns to face Tamarie, unfolding the velvet to reveal four golden ingots."I am uncertain as to why these were handed to me, but I'm sure that I was meant to share them with you." he says, handing Tamarie two of the ingots.
Tamarie watches in awe as the Queen gives her speech, when the queen leaves Tamarie listens to the others give their introductions. "I am Tamarie and it too is my pleasure to meet all of you", she then turns to Sollus and accepts the two ingots from him. "Thank you for sharing with me and once again it was an honor to fight by your side"
Tamarie then looks back at the group, " I would like to go with all of you to defend this city and could use a change of pace.".

Sabina Merrin |

"Time is of the essence. Pavo, we will dispatch a group of guards to escort you, collect your sister, they will escort your sisters body to your families estate, yes I'm aware of your family, and I'm saddened to hear of your sister's passing, word was she was captured by a two-bit criminal."
"I'm afraid I have to inform you that Dorran was grievously injured last night, He's been healed, but we'll see what happens, he was poisoned by imps...he's fighting the poison, He should live, but recovery will take awhile. He may never fully recover."
"Now, go, the guards are waiting at the gates already to escort you to Citadel Volshyenek."

DM X |

Jumpstart for the weekend
After you gather your belongings, you are escorted to the gate of the castle. There are six guards waiting for you. The guards take up positions around you, 2 to the front, 2 to the side and 2 to the rear. You travel through the city toward Zellara's home.
Suddenly, everything is chaos, everything seems to slow down, the two lead guards are thrown into the air, cobblestones are thrown into the air, showering you with dirts, sewage and stones. You can tell with the way one of the guards landed, he's not getting back up as his necks twists at an odd angle, an expression of pure surprise frozen on his face. A massive creature with waving tentacles crawls from the hole.

Marra "The Phoenix" Warblade |

I=1d20=12+2=14
Marra is startled by the sudden appearance of the creature.
But not nearly as startled as the guards...

![]() |

Sollus is momentarily paralyzed by the site of the fallen guard, his neck unnaturally bent. The suddenness with which life can be taken away robs him of breath.
Intended action, for speed of play, may change dramatically after Marra's action...
Shaking off the horror and dragging his gaze away from the man, he retreats into his teachings, muttering an invocation to Abadar to enhance the strength of the largest weapon in arm's reach, Marra's Falcata.
Magic Weapon, the Falcata has +1 to hit and damage and is a magic weapon for the next two minutes. Depending on Marra's action, this will likely take place after her first attack, and he may have to step uncomfortably close to the tentacled sewer-monster to do so, which he will do without hesitation.

Otyugh: "meat...stings...eat stinger..."
Marra: "Otyugh, watch out for their tentacles...spread out attack it from all sides!. Don't let it bite you...they carry filth fever. Sorin flank, strike from range. Pavo, what can you do to slow it down? Sollus be ready to help the injured, Tamarie, guards, get ready for a group assault!."

Pavo Alazario |

"Everyone back!" Pavo shouts as he does the only thing that he know might put the beast down the fastest, withdrawing a small handful of multi-colored sand from the various pouches on his belt, he incants words in a strange language, then, throwing the sand in the otyugh's direction, a wave of shimmering and clashing colors baths the strange sewer creature in a dazzling display that attacks the creatures senses.
Casting Color Spray after getting into a position that affects the least amount of allies. Otyugh must make a Will Save DC 14 or face varying effects dependent on Hit Dice

Marra spends the round giving orders and waiting for those around her to get into position, Pavo steps up and attempts to cast his spell, while Sollus casts his spell on Marra's blade. Sorin and the Guards move into position as Tamarie readies her own weapon. The Otyugh makes a charge at Marra...lashing out at her with it's tentacles. The tentacle wraps around her arm and tears small chinks of chain from her armor and flesh.
Mechanics:
DMG:4

lost the first rolls...

Marra "The Phoenix" Warblade |

Drive it back to the depths of the city! As Marra leaps toward the creature as it flails its tentacles attempting to grab her. The tentacle hits her as she dives to the left of the tentacle using her shield to fend the tentacle off of her. Marra hits the Otyugh, but the blade fails to penetrate it's thick hide.
Mechanics:
Marra atk. 1d20+6=13
NOW!!!

Pavo Alazario |

Seeing as how Marra is already face to face with the hulking beast, Pavo changes tactics and gets out of range of the otyugh's lashing tentacles before mumbling off a few arcane syllables and letting fly with a bolt of acid that streaks towards the sewer creature, which misses in the fray and splatters on the ground to sizzle a small pit in the torn up dirt and metal.
Had gotten a 9 to hit, not even worth the time for URL tags

DM X |

damn I knew I forgot something...
Color spray went off before she charged...I'm really sorry I spent all weekend working on a side-project, and I'm really tired...
Mechanics:
I had called for you to decide whether you were casting defensively to launch the spell within its reach, (since it has 15 ft reach with its tentacles, and the spell has a range of 15ft.), I was waiting to see what happened with that, then this morning I proceeded with the game...not fully awake.
actually a 9 hits with a ranged touch attack against this hulking slow monstrosity btw.

Realizing suddenly that the beast actually spoke recognizable words when it emerged, howling for meat, Sollus takes the chance that it can understand his words.
"Flee! Back whence you came, in the name of the Lord of Cities!" he shouts, calling upon the authority of Abadar as he does.
Command spell, DC 14 Will save to resist. If it fails, it retreats from him for one round, hopefully provoking attacks of opportunity in the process. Only the word 'flee' is part of the command, and the beast is by no means required to go anywhere but away from Sollus.

DM X |

This is round 2...I guess I wasn't very clear on that, since Sorin, you're up, Tamarie and Pavo post your second round actions, and I will work it into a descriptive text.
Round 2
Marra: 14 Attacked
Sorin: 13
G1:11
Sollus: 9 Cast Command
G2: 9
G3: 8
Tamarie: 5
Pavo: 4
G4: 4
Otyugh 2
G5: 1 (prone)

Pavo Alazario |

Casting color spray was his first round action and the acid splash was his second round action so it would have been a 9 for a ranged touch attack and a 2 for the damage For a bit of narrative text:
Pavo incants a few arcane syllables as an acidic dart is flung at the hulking monstrosity. Pavo's bad aim doesn't really matter as the acid splatters on the large frame of the otyugh, bringing to light an old farmer saying, "it is like hitting the broadside of a barn."

I thought you had changed actions in the first turn, not stated your round 2 action.

![]() |

In the midst of the fray, Sollus spares a moment to glance at the fallen guard who did not obviously perish in an instant. He doesn't want to take his eyes away from the more pressing danger, but he looks for signs that this guard may yet be saved, such as gasping for breath or the movement of blood.
Not sure if Perception or Heal is what to roll here, so I did both. Perception 14, Heal 17

Pavo Alazario |

I thought you had changed actions in the first turn, not stated your round 2 action.
Ah yes, confusion on both ends, sorry about that, yeah I did forgo the color spray for the acid splash so will roll up round 2 things now
Pavo launches another glob of acid at the otyugh and hears the satisfying sizzle of acid on flesh as it splatters on the body of the sewer dweller.

End of Round 2
Marra: 14 Attacked
Sorin: 13
G1: 11
Sollus: 9 Cast Command
G2: 9
G3: 8
Tamarie: 5
Pavo: 4
G4: 4
Otyugh 2 17 dmg taken
G5: 1 (prone)
After Marra steps in to fight the foul beasty, Sorin lets an arrow fly into a soft looking spot and buries to the feathers in its flank. One of the guards steps up to attack and it grappled by the Otyugh's free tentacle. Sollus shouts with an air of command: "Flee! Back whence you came, in the name of the Lord of Cities!", Shaken the Otyugh begins to glance around as 2 Guards jump in from the sides, one of the guards sinks a blade into the flank of the Otyugh, Tamarie steps in and take a heavy slice into the tentacle holding the guard, which causes it to release the guard. Pavo throws a second glob of acid onto the hide of the otyugh. As another guard takes a wild swing at the aberration. The Otyugh flees and pulls back, provoking AoOs. As the original stricken guard rises.
Go ahead and roll AoOs
