Reggie Bottleberry |
Reggie seems to be in a strangely good mood after the success of the street show the previous day. It doesn't hurt that the White Thistles came through for them and he takes that as a sign that they may have actually made a slight inroad into this place.
He keeps lowly humming an odd tune, only actually singing the chorus at regular intervals. "...got no strings to hold me down...got no strings on me..."
"We came in under whales, now we're leaving inside one. Sooner or later, I'm going to have to ride on top of one of these things," Reggie says, guiding Rowdy to a spot that he thinks is out of the way.
My Perception is only 3, so not much help there.
575 |
575 seems not at all comfortable about the proposed escape plan. Even less so when he catches sight of their proposed conveyance.
Many things can float
Many more can be self contained.
Why a giant fish
Once they climb inside, his concerns are not really assuaged. He goes over to the portal on the right, but can see very little as its up against the side of the grotto. He then goes to the one of the left, but finds the view little better.
I will take this one
Watching I can understand
Try not to sink it
He adds, with a nervous glance at the glowing circle, then looks away as its hard not to notice the teeth and be reminded of where they are.
I can take the port side (+8 perception)
Aiden Richter |
Aiden shrugs. "Very well." He moves over to one of the eye-ports to keep a watch. His boot snags against something and he dislodges it only to realize that it's part of a whale bone.
Aquavius |
"You're not a sea dweller, then?" Aquavius gives 575 a glance and then shrugs. "A sea's life for me, then!"
Aquavius keeps her trident out, and hands her wand of Cure Light Wounds to the Unseen Servant. "Hey! Hold onto this."
Professor Kalizandrex Poppo |
There's a rope ladder hanging down from the hatch above.
The inside is--moist, and smells like the insides of someone's mouth had that person not eaten anything but fish their whole life and then died. The "floor" is covered in a couple of inches of water near the back and only a little dryer upfront, where there is a nice squishy tongue the size of a very flabby red carpet to stand on.
The professor has rigged some glowing crystals strung along some rope and then tacked onto the ceiling that provide slightly-better-than-dim lighting.
The windows bulge outwards like sideways domes for better viewing.
575 seems not at all comfortable about the proposed escape plan. Even less so when he catches sight of their proposed conveyance.
Many things can float
Many more can be self contained.
Why a giant fish
"Actually they're mammals! Poppo begins to explain professorially from the center of the glowing magic circle.

Watching I can understand
Try not to sink itHe adds, with a nervous glance at the glowing circle, then looks away as its hard not to notice the teeth and be reminded of where they are.
"Just try not to disturb my concentration, or who knows what might happen."
Aquavius keeps her trident out, and hands her wand of Cure Light Wounds to the Unseen Servant. "Hey! Hold onto this."
Replaced the circle with an icon that looks less like a second blowhole. I hope you approve.
Aquavius |
"Haha! Reminds me of the legend of the Wind Fish. It was a flying whale that trapped people in its dreams and tasked them with killing the nightmares within." Aquavius jokes. "But it always said I AM THE WIND FISH IN NAME ONLY."
Reggie Bottleberry |
"We have faith in you Professor." Olandil says.
"I'm absolutely certain that you can keep this giant puppet moving properly. Just don't try to go to the wrong place or we'll be stuck here for 40 days and 40 nights," Reggie calls out encouragingly to Ge-Poppo.
The World's Most Interesting GM |
As Prof. Poppo's brow creases in concentration the whale begins to smoothly pull smoothly away from the dock.
Then suddenly there are a number soft thuds in quick succession. Along the starboard side of the strange craft there are now suddenly four barbed harpoon heads protruding from the carcass wall. Not a second later the whale vessel comes to a jarring halt.
Everyone aboard needs to make an Acrobatics check (DC 18) or fall prone to the 'floor'. Characters with a rank or more in Profession (sailor) do not need to make the check and automatically remain on their feet.
Reggie Bottleberry |
The jarring jolting of the jolly gigantic vessel combined with the lack of mobility his armor gives him is enough to toss Reggie out of the saddle and onto the part of it's tongue that could once taste salt. Can't make that even with a nat 20
Rowdy Acrobatics minus ACP: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 6 - 1 = 18
Rowdy, what with having 4 legs and all, is much more stable and keeps his feet.
"Well call me Ishmael!" Reggie exclaims from his position on the floor as he sees the harpoons sticking into the vessel. "That can't be good."
Aquavius |
Aquavius keeps watch. "Hey, Professor. You know about any underwater raiding parties swimming around here? This ship is rare, one of a kind! If they saw it, they would try to-"
*THUD*
Aquavius spent her career as a sailor and easily adjusts to the sudden jolt. She laughs as others fall. "Time to earn your sea legs, boys." She clutches her trident and grins. "We got pirates!"
The World's Most Interesting GM |
Sonbot acrobatics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Aquavius keeps watch. "Hey, Professor. You know about any underwater raiding parties swimming around here? This ship is rare, one of a kind! If they saw it, they would try to-"
*THUD*
The harpoons seem to have come from above. That, and no one closed the hatch yet....
As most of the crew of Professor Poppo's Magically Propelled Undersea Whale Carcass Vessel fall to the, well, tongue, a pair of rough-looking sailors come rappelling through the blowhole hatch--a big man with red tattoos and a figure cloaked in a moss-green hood, both bearing staves.
Then a woman's voice can be heard echoing through the whale.
"You are all under arrest, under the authority granted to us by the Imperial House! Yield now."

He doesn't manage to do it with as much grace or speed as he would have liked though and only has time to pull out his sword but not move to attack with it.
"I have a counterproposal! Why don't you come down here and suck up all this whale water, instead!" Reggie shouts up, in return.

UMD: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Aiden stands and suddenly a wand is in his hand. He taps himself with it and a shimmering field surrounds him. He looks to the others and holds a finger to his mouth, motioning them to be quiet.
Wand of Shield. AC is now 19.
Aquavius |
Aquavius is about to rouse everyone into battle when Aiden motions for silence. Rather confused, Aquavius shrugs and moves up to Professor Captain Poppo and readies herself to jab any foe who approaches him.

If it's ok Aquavius: I moved your ghost behind you- unseen servant yes?
Son of Cayden moves besides Aquavius and, uttering an arcane word, his weapons begin glowing with a soft blue light. Arcane Strike: swift action
He then cracks a joke at the intruders, "How did the pirate find out he needed spectacles? He took an 'aye' exam!" Inspire Courage: +1 competence to atk&dmg and +1 morale to saves vs. fear

Need to rise from prone first. I'm going to guess that moving is more important than inspiration at this point for Son, so no Inspire Courage effect just yet.
Olandil |
Then a woman's voice can be heard echoing through the whale.
"You are all under arrest, under the authority granted to us by the Imperial House! Yield now."
"LIKE HELLS WE WILL!" shouts Olandil rising to his feet, rapier clutched in his hand. He moves to stand before Aquavius and Son.

Its a little hard to tell who's who on the map... I'm assuming the figures with the red and green borders are the sailors? Where's the lady doing the shouting?
How high is the blowhole?
575 frowns as he looks around for the source of the woman's voice. He decides to deal with the ones he can see instead, and moves right next to them both, one muscled arm held high ready to try to deflect whatever blows they stand ready to make! The other fist is low, and balled, ready to come up in a devastating uppercut!
Single move, getting next to both of them (and potentially taking both readied actions) then punching the red one! Will use non-lethal... just cause! We can take them home with us =)
melee vs red, PA: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 11 - 2 = 24, for 1d8 + 9 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 4 = 19 non-lethal damage.
Thought about trying to clear out green, but Reggie can't charge anyway, even if I could do enough damage to drop the closer one... So red it is!

Yes.

The unseen woman? That's a very good question.
How high is the blowhole?
The ceiling is 10' up from the tongue. The hatch itself (and the ceiling) is about a foot thick.

The big red man folds before the Master of the Haiku Style.

In turn, Rowdy dumps the cloaked man to the ground cursing. While 575 knocks the larger man out with a punch.
Furiously concentrating Poppo, manages to tear the Magically Propelled Undersea Whale Carcass Vessel free of the harpoons with a sudden jolt!

Olandil keeps his feet under him this time but Poppo topples over again. Even still, he maintains his mental hold on the magic animating the whale
Since Poppo is is using the rules for "Swallow Whole" the holes in the whale's carcass reseal.
The unseen woman's voice curses, then utters a single word of magic.

Aquavius, trained sailor and former pirate keeps her footing. Turning to Aiden, she waits for whatever trick he needed silence for.
Holding until Aiden moves.
Horrible Undead Thing |
Something stirs in the depths of the whale's gut. There is a terrible ripping and snapping sound and from the watery trash a midships err a midwhale there emerges what looks like the corpse of a half-digested sailor his clothing hangs in rags, atop his nearly skinless head like a sort of gruesome hat there sits perched a large slick nautilus its tentacles waving and tangling through the departed man's skull and hair.
"Urr-AGHH!" the corpse moans and lurches to its feet.

"That'snotmine." comes the unseen woman's voice similarly affected. All the noise and the echo in the whale's cavernous bulk aren't helping Aiden pin-point the voice's source.

Hey GM, I was holding my action until Aiden moved. Can I move now?
"Well then." Aquavius drops her trident and pulls her longbow. "Get going, mateys! And don't let it grab you, either!" She begins her inspired rage.
Inspired Rage (Su) Affected allies gain a +2 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution and a +1 morale bonus on Will saving throws, but also take a –1 penalty to AC. While under the effects of inspired rage, allies other than the skald cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration.
Elemental Blood, Lesser (Cold) While raging, as a swift action up to three times a day, the barbarian can imbue her melee attacks with elemental energy, dealing an additional 1d6 points of damage of the chosen energy type for 1 round.
