World's Most Interesting Out of Anarchy (001) [PFS Standard 6-22] (Inactive)

Game Master Great Green God

Game Day VII session 2 begins Saturday, October 6th. The pre-game show starts now.:
Several years ago, rebellion in the seaside town of Pezzack resulted in a Chelish blockade to slowly starve the rioters into submission. Since then few have entered or left, trapping the increasingly desperate citizens with little with which to repair their broken homes and eke out a living. When the Society learns that an important informant still lives in the ruined town, the PCs must smuggle themselves into Pezzack, navigate the devastated urban landscape, and extract their contact—all without igniting a new rebellion and inviting Cheliax’s unfettered wrath.

Content in “Out of Anarchy” contributes to the ongoing story-line of the Dark Archive and Liberty’s Edge factions.

If you don't mind I'd like to take two copies of Amalia's chapbook. One for the world, and one for me."

Meese fills Son's glass again, and produces a pair of books to trade. "So how can I help you drown--in water that is?"

"Still a distraction could be supplied, if you were to do us a good turn. The big square tower to the west of the city. It was once the hub of defense against the strix until they firebombed it from above. They're scouts have taken to roosting there to snipe and spy upon the town. Send them off and bring me the proof and perhaps I can arrange something. It'll take time to gather the men especially now tomorrow morning by the soonest." Meese then considers for a moment. A short time later, across town at the Abandonded Tower

Most of the walls and floors of this tower have collapsed. Only fragmented pieces of the bottom stone exterior walls remain standing jutting 40-feet up from the elevated foundations. A large pile of burnt wooden planks and the shattered remnants of furniture lies several hundred feet to the west of the ruin. Near the center of the ruin, a pile of bones rests in a 15-footdeep open grave.

The party can see on three Strix warriors outfitted with longspears, bows and nets perched high above on the remaining charred stone buttresses on the far side of the ruin. They seem to be watching the chaotic scene in the town below. You don't believe they have seen you yet but it is hard to tell given the distance and their expressionless faces.

Aquavius' Lore Strix (used as both the singular and plural term) are a race of dark-winged humanoids (subtype: strix) who live in only a single region in all Avistan: the forsaken rocky spires on Cheliax's west coast known as the Devil's Perch. Grisly tales told by the local human population has made them the target of much hatred and fear.

They are highly territorial and isolationist in outlook. repeated classes with early Jistka and later Taldan colonists has resulted in their deep and abiding hatred of humans.

They speak their own language a strange creole of Azlanti and Infernal, in which they call themselves the itarii.

Nocturnal, they have dark- and low-light vision, and blend well into the dark. Their large dark eyes are fixed in their heads meaning they have to turn their heads to see things resulting in their jerky, bird-like head motion. They can fly very fast with average maneuverability.

On the way to the fort Son of Cayden casts message on Aquavius, Reggie and Aiden.

Seeing the strix perched on high, Son of Cayden whispers to the others, "I will make myself appear like one of them. Aquavius and Aiden: get your bows out. My disguise will make my backpack look like I got one of your arrows in my back! show me the color of the fletching please..."

Son of Cayden utters an arcane syllable and seemingly morphs into a young, civilian (non-warrior) female strix, his rapier morphing into a rolled scroll, as if the young strix girl had been on its way to deliver a message to the strix posted in the fort. He wraps his whip around his neck, and gives the handle to Aiden.

"There. I don't talk their language, so you'll have to make it look like you're choking me out and holding me on a leash, so to speak. The arrow in my back will be through the right wing, which explains how you've all caught me. If they try to pepper us with arrows, use me as a shield... reel me in with the whip and hold a knife to my throat... perhaps that will draw them closer to us."

Using the jerky, bird-like head motion described by Aquavius, Son of Cayden stumbles into the fort, pulling at its leash and falling to his knees, eyes pleading the strix for help, and holding out the scroll to them in a silent plea for them to come get the important message!

Actually it is Aquavius's bluff that is working. Intimidate has some mechanical considerations that are not in effect when Aquavius taunts the strix (single target within 30' for Demoralize, and take a minute+ of time for Influence/Coercion). That and it seems more of bluff anyhow.

There's a section of wall that juts out into the space you are trying to move into (at the very least it would be difficult to slide past), so 575 will either need to take a full Move action to move to get around the wall or just move 5' south of his original position to the opening. I'm guessing he wants to go with the latter unless you say otherwise.

I'm saying no, tripping someone, or throwing dirt in their eyes doesn't require "concentration" (neither game mechanically or in reality)--at least anymore than it takes to shove a sword through them.

Also, may I have used my shield wand while the others were pulling their bird-baiting stunt?

Reggie and Rowdy circle around through the gap where everyone isn't jammed up. Both halfling and wolf feel Aquavius' song coursing through them and both of them feel mightily infuriated. Emphasis on the mighty.

It is hard to tell which of them snarls more. But Reggie has enough of his wits about him to hurl another stone, this time at the bluish one.

Aiden drops his bow and steps forward into the breech, drawing his sword in two hands. He hacks at the Stirix that has fallen to the ground with the rage granted by Aquavius. "Die, wretched invaders!"

Reggie's stone flies high, while Aiden attempts to keep the fallen strix, down.

The airborne strix continue to concentrate to fire on despicable blue slaver. They bring her and her song low with their arrows. They call to the abused strix girl. One settles on the wall again while the other moves up and deeper into the ruin.

Yup, that's 28 damage. Since my Raging Song ended I lose the Con bonus, so I lost 6 HP. I'm at -7.

Too many arrows. "Damn, good aim..." She collapses under heavy fire.

GM, did my natural 20 earlier, not hit? Seems like there's some damage missing somewhere (might just be a display issue!).

575 moves further into the ruin, pulling out a second javelin as he goes. Seeing both airborn strix out of reach, and his companions dealing with the one on the ground, he hurls it once again, aiming for the same strix as previous.

javelin vs red, range, poison: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 7 - 2 = 19, for 1d6 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (1) + 5 - 1 = 5 damage.

Sadly, I only have 3 javelins.... 2 down.

No, 575 hit him. I forgot the fall damage.

Reggie buries the tip of his lance into the prone strix who lets out a horrible shriek. The other strix react with renewed rage.

575 lances the perched strix through his wing with his javelin.

575 threw it at the red one, not the one that fell, thus my confusion.

You poisoned me! Its just me remembering I have -2 str right now
Doesn't affect the attack roll on ranged stuff, but does add -1 to the damage

Sorry--and this is funny because of the way I have been teasing 575 for his unusual (for this side of Golarion) reptilian heritage--but I, the GM, actually got Nagaji confused with Vishkanya for a second there.

Was there ever a race boon for vishkanya? Perhaps I'll used 'poisoned' instead of 'poison' =)

The fallen strix raises one arm in defense, but Aiden cleaves through it and the creature's neck severing both the body, and soaking the battlefield in blood.
