World of Remnant: Beacon Academy

Game Master Aloha-Shirt-Samurai

Merged thread for both Aloha and Rungok's RWBY campaigns.

51 to 100 of 114 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

@Zen: That backstory's totally fine. A lot of political elements of Remnant haven't really been explained yet, but every country is governed by a council--until RWBY bothers to tell me they're elected, I think we can assume at least some of them aren't. ;)

There's a couple last little touches of flavor you can think about, like naming your weapon, but that's pretty unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

(also, I like your stat spread--I usually like to play skill monkeys, but especially in a setting like RWBY, narrowing yourself down to a handful of skills might actually be a really wise idea)

@Don Jon Dux: Shame to see you go! I hope the busy schedule treats you well though. Earn that money and don't let the hustle break you down. :)

@Madcaster: I like 'im! Everything checks out on your sheet. The game is most likely going to be set at Beacon, so you probably would have gone to combat training in either Vacuo or Vale. A couple last little flavor touches you can think about while we're waiting are naming your Semblance and Weaponry. :)

We do have four. I'm assuming nobody's taking me up on my "GM a second table, co-GM BFF dorm-mate teams" strategy? ;)

Consider applications still open for the moment. If I have an unexpected windfall of time I may still like to run a second table (or I may rethink my strategy of runnning only four players).

If everything goes according to plan, I'll kick the campaign off in about a week and a half. At the latest, I'll be kicking up the campaign thread and PMing everybody on the fifteenth.

I would love to run a second table, (here it comes) BUT:

I've never run a PBP game before,
RWBY is a great show but I need to seriously spend a few days binge-watching it again to get caught up with the world and themes,
and I have no idea what kind of campaign I would do, especially since I would need to pair it alongside yours.

If you want to give me some time to figure that stuff out... possibly?

I'd like to change my backstory just a little :

Azure is the daughter of one of the ruling councilmen of minor power of the Kingdom of Vacuo. While her parents hoped that she would "take to the purple" and train in the arts of high society and politics, she instead turned out to be a tomboy who was always play-fighting with the other children, at first using sticks. As her Semblance, Powers, and Weaponsmithing abilities appeared, her parents resigned themselves to her becoming a Huntress. But they have never approved of her path, eventually disowning her. However, one of her uncles, a retired Hunter, with a small but thriving business as a weapon maker, has helped her along her path.

I'd also like to change the "Raise die d8 (High Raise Die)" feature of her scythe to Reach.

TBD : Giri, possessions, weapon name.

Psst... me again. Semi-O/T heads-up for the RWBY enthusiasts among us. You may have seen leaked smartphone video of the Volume 4 teaser that was shown at RTX earlier this year.

Today, it was officially released.

Come on, October 22nd!

(I'll slink back into the shadows now.)

I watched it! Ruby seems to have gotten more ferocious in the interim! I wonder what else is different about her.

Also the animation is waaay better and more detailed.

this saddest thing in the series so far (for me) is what happened to Yang. I can't wait until she returns.

I was so mad about that! but it gives me 2 hopes:

1. BADASS CYBER ARM
2. Now she's got a permanent wound, her semblance will be always ramped up meaning much higher damage output.

I am thinking it would be more awesome if they left her with just has 1 arm. I think it would be good to have a character who was clearly a main character that also had a serious handicap.

But you're right, she'll probably get a cybernetic arm.

The upgrade in animation quality is incredible. Also oh no Yang my feelings ;-;

I hope they don't just go the robo arm route. I feel like it would be a better character arc for her to struggle with a serious handicap and have to resolve who she actually is and what she wants. And then she can get a cool robo arm I guess :P

(also something something blonde something something arm something game of thrones joke)

@Rungok: Well, if you've run a plot point campaign before, I basically structured it like that. There's about six main story beats with room for extra sidegames/backstory related games on the side. I guess the campaigns don't actually need to be run in tandem either--it's just an easy way of solving the too many players dilemma. If one table focused more on the city and the other focused more on beyond the walls, it would give us an easy excuse for them to be separate. Shoot me a PM if you want to talk over the particulars of running those games side by side.

Running PBPs is easier than running a game in person to me, but it is more time-consuming and stretches out much longer. My IZ2.0 game is well over 400 posts and it's about four months long. They've just crossed the threshhold of what would have been the second game if I'd run it in person, haha.

@Zen: All sounds good. I am curious about how that Giri's going to work out, but I do really like it as a hindrance whatever you decide on. :)

You make Pyrrha and Penny sad.

Ah but you forget that nothing bad ever happened! EVERRRR

You make Pyrrha and Penny sad.

Now I'm going to cry. Oh my god, Pyrrha was my favorite character, honestly. And despite her name, she didn't even get a Pyrrhic victory. I cried. I am not ashamed to admit it.

@Aloha, I will be glad to collaborate, I just binge watched the first season and I think I have more than enough material to work with to cover players until I can come up with more. :) I take it you want a slot on that 4 man team? Should I open a new recruitment? please PM me if you would, I guess there's stuff I need to know about becoming a DM and such.

While Penny's arc is indeed sad, I didn't have the same investment in her as I do Yang (She's my favorite character from the series actually).

I really look forward to seeing how she evolves from basically having her self confidence eroded.

As far as Pyrrha goes, what happened truly sucks, but she got a death worthy of a greek hero, which her character progression clearly mirrors.

Okay other than some prep work I need to do, I should be able to run a basic, 4 player game that goes alongside this one. @Aloha, you have a slot since you're running this game, and then I can run a new recruitment thread or I could just Hijack yours and take the spillover from other applicants! Kinda like how teams are formed in Beacon!

That sounds perfect! :) I'd say just keep it in this thread and we can draft players around to make what seems like the best/balanced teams. I'll send you a PM with some campaign info and we can decide how similarly we want to run the tables.

I'll get my PC up at some point today too.

Dark Archive

Pyrrah was used to, unfortunately, show off the power of the bad guys. It shows that even the strongest at Beacon lost, the best wasn't good enough. That means they have to be stronger, way stronger, to fight the coming battles.

Plus I wasn't buying the whole thing with her going to be a Maiden. The show is called RWBY, not JNPR or Pyrrah. While sad her death is, it's sort of a clever move. It makes things personal and sets up possible coming events.

Just to clarify for everybody, the game's gonna work like this:

I'm going to take 8 applicants and start the gameplay thread. You're going to go through your first training mission and get assigned teams. From there, we'll split the thread, and I'll take one team (four players) and Rungok will take the other. :)

We might come back to the initial thread for large missions/times when there would be team overlap.

@NenkotaMoon: I dunno, it's kind of cool when the main characters aren't necessarily the strongest ones, or the ones chosen by destiny or whatever. I'm a little sad about the somethinsomethinsilvereyes on Ruby, but I knew that was coming ever since season 1, so...

On the plus side, it is kind of nice from a narrative standpoint when a show that seems very upbeat also isn't ginger with death/crippling. It's not exactly "realism", but handled well it does absolutely raise the stakes and make you more genuinely invested at any given time.

Made something hooray!!

Woot!

-Short(+1)
-Spread(1)
-Multishot(+3)

[i]What starts out looking like a sawed off lever action shotgun turns into the handle for a a somewhat large sword strapped to the back.

Born just outside the city walls of Mistral's capitol in a small village of fellow Faunus, Tora lived a life of constant upheaval. Her father left her mother when she was six leaving them poor, and the village was at sometimes left to the mercy of the Grimm. It was in this environment that Tora learned that you either fought or you died in this world and sometimes you just had to break the rules to survive. Of course, sometimes that meant stealing what you could from the small trips into the city.

While she never went to any of the many primary combat schools, Tora had already been taught by several of the Faunus hunters whom often visited the town. Inspired by one such hunter, she decided to apply to Beacon Academy and was accepted without too much trouble. Becoming a huntress however, is sort of means to an end as it would mean she could give her family the money they needed to get into the city and be safe.

Nice to see another Faunus, NenkotaMoon.

@NenkotaMoon: Looks good, especially for your first SW character! :D I'll fill you in on some of the stuff you're missing and some nitpicks:

-Swap out No Mercy, as this setting gives everyone the benefit of No Mercy for free (Blood and Guts setting rule). :)
-For your ranged weapon: Your damage is 1-3d6, you get a +2 on your shooting roll to attack and your RoF is 1 (I know that's confusing with Multishot). :)
-Charisma is 0 unless modified by an edge or hindrance. You have -2 with people who aren't used to Faunus.
-Pace is 6 unless modified by an edge, like your Fleet-Footed which raises it to 8.
-Parry is 2 + half your fighting die (7 for you)
-Toughness is 2 + half your vigor die (4 for you)

And my PC for Rungok's review:

Tana Kazakh:
Backstory:
No matter how nations feel about each other, people are people, and people make children. Born to an Atlesian Colonel and a huntress from Vale, Tana has felt between worlds from an early age. Aspiring to follow in her father's footsteps, she was to attend Atlas Academy. Unfortunately, her older brother who was set to attend Beacon like his mother was savaged in a freak Grimm attack and unable to attend.

At the request of her parents, she has been made a rare exception to Atlas' military service. Though she's being made to attend Beacon, she still takes after her father and tries to bring the rigorous discipline of the Atlesian military with her wherever she goes. That said, a lifetime under her strict father has made her a born follower. As soon as she gains respect for a leader, she's likely to follow them through anything.

Race:
Human

Appearance:
Tall, lightly muscled with dark skin and an overall athletic, un-curvy build. Her hair and eyes are light blue and worn in a high, short knot with shaved sides.

Attributes:
Agility d8, Smarts d4, Spirit d6, Strength d8, Vigor d6

Skills:
Fighting d10, Intimidation d6, Notice d4, Repair d4, Shooting d8, Stealth d6, Throwing d4

Charisma: 0; Pace: 6 (12 with semblance); Parry: 7 (8 with melee weapon); Toughness: 5

Hindrances:
•Arrogant (M): Must humiliate opponent, challenge the ‘leader’
•Enemy (M): The Grimm that savaged her brother
•Loyal (m): The hero tries to never betray or disappoint his friends
•Stubborn (m): Hero always wants his way

Edges:
•Grab: You grab an adjacent target (of appropriate size based on your character's Strength). With an opposed Fighting roll at a +2 you can pin them and render them unable to attack or move, but you have to roll to maintain it each round. During a grapple you can only use weapons with One Hand/Two-Fisted. Also with an opposed Strength roll you can throw them for 2" every 1 above the defender's result you get, instead of attempting to pin (this can cause impact damage).
•Semblance: Hundred and ten!
When activated, Tana taps into her military training and heritage, enabling her to push past her limits.
Heightened Senses (2): Hearing, Sight
-Slow to activate (-1): Requires a full round to activate, power stays activated for 1d6 rounds)
Super Edge (2): Killer Instinct
Super Speed (2): x 2 Pace
•Suplex: When you grab a target, normally you can only make unarmed attacks on them or throw them. With a suplex, you can make an attack roll against the grabbed target and deal 5damage based on the roll. If you succeed, it's Str+d8. If you get a raise, the suplex damage is Str+d12. Doing a suplex renders the target prone, and ends the pin.
•Two-Fisted: Can attack with a weapon in each hand.

Gear:
To be finalized

Weaponry: Mors Tua and Vita Mea
Two ribbed bracers (like the handguards of an M16A2) with sheathes that stow fixed bayonets that can spin into place with the push of a button.

Ranged:
Automatic (+4)
Short Range (+1)
Very High Powered (+3)
Fast Switch (+2)
Hardline Loader (-2)
Limited Ammo (-1)
Unstable (-2)

Melee:
Concealable (+1)
Fast Switch (+2)
Revolving Dust Chamber (+4)
Two-Fisted (+2)
No Raise Die (-4)

So by my count, and counting my PC, we have 6. If we get two more together we'll be ready to start. :)

Dark Archive

Neat.

Looks good. I didn't see anything right off the top of my head that was wrong. I like your Semblance, but I'm not sure what the Killer Instinct edge is. Everything else seemed fine!

Aren't Faunus only get one animal trait?

Dark Archive

IDK?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

@Rungok: Killer Instinct:

"This hero hates losing. If he ties on an opposed roll of any
sort, he wins. In addition, if his skill die on an opposed skill
roll is a 1, he can reroll it (but must keep the second result,
even if it’s another 1)."

I'm thinking about redoing her Semblance slightly because I did cram three powers into one, even though I gave it the slow to activate modifier. It's pretty powerful and I don't know if they all work thematically.

@Madcaster: Kind of. It's a little slippery depending on what you define as an animal trait. Blake and Tukson both have catlike eyes but an additional animal trait (ears, claws). We definitely haven't seen a faunus with both ears and a tail yet.

@NenkotaMoon: Maybe pick one trait to stick with? Oh, and I'll PM you with info on how to make your flash step work. :)

Dark Archive

Ok

I am dotting this so I can do some more reading into the stuff. I'm a relative newbie to the RWBY setting, I caught the first season and let it build slowly and surely into a massive pile of goodness. The side effect is that all the terms mean nothing to me. :P

Hahaha, no worries. Let me know if you'd like help with anything, or need anything explained. :)

Oh, and do keep watching. The first season was aight, but it didn't really hit its stride for me until the second season. The third is basically just me sitting there sagely nodding my head like "yes, this smells like a fine animes."

Oh, I'm friends with Rungok IRL. He told me about his character the whole Co-GMing thing. I'm a giant fanboy for Savage Worlds so I'll get the mechanics soonish.

I'll probably make a kind of clueless character who has the whole "stranger in a strange land" feel.

Dark Archive

for some reason I thought you were oversubscribed already, if you only have 6 I may have to throw something into the hat.

Dark Archive

Also as far as I'm aware Faunus are strictly one trait according to canon. Blake's & others eyes are more just odd-coloured anime eyes rather than strictly cat-eyes.

Don't have access to my Necessary Evil book, is it possible to have a Semblance that just makes everyone else better? Sort of like 'Boost Trait' from core, but affecting an area or group rather than a specific target?, if it has to trade off for being a specific trait I'd be happy to just give everyone more Spirit.

Hey guys, I heard Rungok talking about this game the last few weeks didn't realize it was still posting for recruitment till Warforged started going on about his character concepts. Would love to try out play by posts. I am fairly familiar with Savage worlds and love the RWBY world and setup will peruse the books and attempt to throw out a character idea and build in a bit after iIreview everything. if already full can just use him as an npc either way I have no doubt I am quite interested.

Updated the sheet with the gear and names for my Semblance and weapon.

Shamrock Duille:
Name: Shamrock Duille Race: Human

Attributes: Agility d10, Smarts d6, Spirit d6, Strength d6, Vigor d6

Skills: Fighting (Agi) 1d12, Shooting (Agi) 1d10, Notice (Sma) 1d6, Knowledge (Weaponcrafting) (Sma) 1d6, Repair (Sma) 1d4

Charisma 0, Pace 6, Parry 8, Toughness 5

Edges: Semblance, Weaponcrafting Mastery 1, Quick Draw

Hindrances:
Curious (Major) - It killed the cat, and it might kill your hero as well. Curious characters are easily dragged into any adventure. They have to check out everything and always want to know what’s behind a potential mystery.

Overconfdent (Major) - There’s nothing out there your hero can’t defeat. At least that’s what he thinks. He believes he can do most anything and never wants to retreat from a challenge. He’s not suicidal, but he certainly takes on more than common sense dictates.

Jinxed (Minor) - Your character is just cursed with bad luck. It will tend to be minor things, like always hitting red lights, more police around in an area, forgetting your umbrella when it rains. These setbacks might become more threatening in dramatic situations.

Loyal (Minor) - Your character may not be a hero, but he’d give his life for his friends. This character can never leave a man behind if there’s any chance at all he could help

Semblance: Wormhole (Teleport (Range 24))

Unique Weapon - Twilight Whisper:
Two hands to use effectively; Significant item; Switchable; +3 points

Melee Form (Double glaive - something like this):
Damage: Str+d8, AP 1, Reach 1
+3: Reach (+1)
+2: High Damage (d6->d8)
+1: Penetrating (AP 1)

Total: 5/5 +1 extra

Ranged Form (Automatic shotgun - something like this), only with the 3rd barrel on top:
Damage 1-3d6, RoF 3, Range 4/8/16
+4: Automatic
+2: Medium Range
+1: Spread

Total: 5/5 + 2 extra

Gear:
Freeze Cartridges (10 rounds) (Dust: Blue; -2dmg, slow, frozen on raise) 100
Armor Piercing Cartridges (10 rounds) (Dust: Brown; +2 AP) 150

Shamrock Duille comes from the family of Hunstsmen and Huntresses. Every member of Duille family fought Grimm, and it's no wonder that he, too, chose this vocation. Having finished a primary combat school in Vale, he applied to Beacon Academy, following his parents footsteps.

Appearance - like this, only dark green hair.

Personal Details:
Sorzar was born in one of the major cities of the Kingdom of Vacuo, one of a large brood of children to two poor Faunus. Every day was a struggle, begging and doing oddjobs here and there within the city to try and make sure food was on the table. Sorzar acted as a courier around the city, being paid what little Liens to help make sure there was enough bread to go around. Prejudices were strong in this city, violence and distaste strong against the Faunus that called the city home.

Not all was dark and terrible though, not every hand was a clenched fist. There were those who were sympathetic to Sorzar’s family’s dire straits and took pity on them. More importantly though, there was the heroes that Sorzar idolized; The White Fang. The White Fang’s members brought food and water, medicine and hope to those who barely survived on the burning streets of Sorzar’s home. All he ever wanted was to grow up to be like them, to follow his eldest brother and help make the world better and equal for all.

Even as reports came in of White Fang’s more violent escalations, Sorzar discounted them to be lies. There was no way his heroes could be terrorists, that they could be harming so many. Malachite, his older brother, returned home and told his family of all the good that they were doing. Their father though had heard the truth and disowned his eldest for the cowardly acts he had committed, for furthering the divide between Humans and Faunus.
Sorzar ran away from home that day and found his brother, hoping to follow in his footsteps. Instead of being sent packing, as he expected, he was welcomed in and brought into The White Fang. It was here he learned how to fight, to kill if needed, and to defend his kind from the predations of humanity. Sorzar believed himself to be a hero and, when he was done with his long training, eagerly volunteered for the first important task that he could take with his brother.

A rescue mission was in order, their allies captured during a failed mission within a smaller town of a few hundred. They were to sneak in and escape with the prisoners while the other team ran distraction. The mission was flawless, Sorzar’s team expertly dispatching the guards to free their imprisoned comrades. Yet when he left, he saw the damage that had been done. His brother and his team had sabotaged the walls, allowing Grimm to enter the city unimpeded. The monsters swept through the town like a plague; women, men, children, and elderly died in the streets. Humans and Faunus both were slew by the wild Grimm and Sorzar realized just what he had helped accomplish and what his brother and The White Fang really stood for.

It was with shame that he revealed his brother’s location to the authorities anonymously, fleeing into the dark with his guilt. He worked from then on to try and help those in need, to put his skills to better use. It was during an attack by Grimm that he came under the notice of an experienced Hunter. It took some small persuading before Sorzar was convinced to try his luck and see if he could improve the world and atone for his sins. It is why he worked hard to unlock his aura and develop his semblance. It is why he passed their tests so readily, showcasing his skill and cunning. It is why he is at the Academy now, feeling that same wide-eyed enthusiasm that he thought had been long since lost.

Personality:
Sorzar is a playful joker, proud of what he is but not caught up in it so completely. Sarcasm is his favorite way to express love and friendship and you should truly be far more worried when he is unusually polite to you. Behind the mirth and merriment though is a sense of melancholy that only settles in when he thinks he is alone. That night plays over and over again in his mind and he never feels that he is doing quite enough to make up for the lives that were lost that night.

Physical Description:
Sorzar is young man, tan skinned with golden eyes and a shaggy mop of hair that seems to shift from red to orange to yellow. Two tufts of golden-brown fur raise out from his hair, the fox ears that show off his Faunus heritage. He stands at about 5’2, shorter and thinner than most. He is usually mistaken for being younger than he is, something that annoys him to no end (the Edward Elrich Complex :P).

He dresses in red, orange, and black silks, light and easy upon his form to keep the desert heat away and keep him comfortable outside of Winter. His armor are golden-colored inlays, set to protect his vitals areas while allowing him to stay mobile.

Weapon Description:
Shimmer Mirage is a beautiful chakram, intricately designed to look like exceedingly sharp dunes across an endless desert. The chakram whistles softly, like the unimpeded winds of the desert, when it is thrown and returns to the hand of the one who threw it easily. Quick releases within the handles cause the weapon to break apart into sharpened segments, colored in sunset reds and shining golds. The chain is swift and dangerous, capable of being swung out far away in quick lunges and strikes thanks to the light-weight material it is made from. Unfortunately, that material is also expensive and the segments have the low possibility of shattering should they be hit just right. They are a weapon to be used by a trickster, through and through.

Role:
Sorzar is a social character, aiming to be the guy people talk to and who talks to others to get things done. Need someone to understand where you’re coming from? Talk with Sorzar. Need something specific? Talk to Sorzar. In combat, he tends to assist the more powerful individuals with his tricks and skills and will come in swinging hard when the opportunity presents itself. He is a good person in the end though and will put himself in danger in order to protect those who can’t protect themselves.

Please let me know what you think or if I missed anything. It is late and I've been fueled by the powers that are a lack of sleep. <3

@Aloha, i have done my part!:)

Warforged, looks okay though id have Aloha look it over too. You managed to make someone like Blake, but then again not like her at all. Good job!

@WarforgedMan: Looks good! He is very Blake-like, but a much different take on a character with a similar situation. I love it.

Only nitpick: Unless I'm miscounting, all your hindrance points went into attributes and edges (1 Free Edge + 6 attribute points for two edges and 7 attribute steps) so your expensive weapon should eat up your starting 500 Lien.

(also is the leap part of your semblance cloning and throwing yourself? because... awesome. :D)

@SpinningDice: Hahaha, well, I changed to the two tables plan on the fly thanks to Rungok. :)

As for your semblance, SW usually hates group buffs because single buffs are so strong. As per a Clint Black ruling on superpowers and Leadership edges, your Semblance could be Telepathy with the Switchboard modifier so you could communicate with your party and give them the advantages of Leadership edges while they were in range. :)

(and then any Semblance Mastery you take at later levels could be Super Edges for additional Leadership bonuses--even at 0 XP with just Command, that's pretty damn strong.)

You can also take the standard party support build (Common Bond, Elan, Luck/Great Luck) to benny other people's rolls at a +2. :)

@Schythe: We're sitting at 7 right now and SpinningDice is interested. Go ahead and make a character--depending on how my work schedule works out, I may end up GMing only anyway, in which case I'll just NPC my character onto one of the other teams. :)

@Madcaster: Looks good to me. :) Love those names, too.

@Rungok: Hahaha, yes! We're almost there! I'll shoot for starting Fridayish. My only concern right now is I'll be travelling with the boyfriend next week and I may only be posting every other day or so. Would you guys rather wait one more week and start later so I can update every day?

If Schythe wants the last spot I can step aside, I'm probably in too many games as is anyway. Though I'll continue to work on the concept anyway.

So I don't mind waiting. Gives me time to go over the player's character sheets and see what we're going to be dealing with. I look forward to the game though, it should be fun!

Is it just me, or does everyone want to have a super-food fight at some point in the Joint Game thread?

Also, why didn't anyone tell me about RWBY Chibi? It's hilarious.

Yay for more people!

Huzzah for more people! Schythe and I brainstormed ideas and I bounced some ideas off of him. I am super excited for this game, I look forward to us playing :D

Okay I see the updated book, I'm going to go over Carmine and make adjustments to fix him up. I think I miscounted my math on the weapon design portion anyways. :/

I went with a more technical-focused character, but kept the dustcraft part, since I am sure that's going to be useful in the future. However, no aura mastery (yet).

Carmine:

Name: Carmine
Race: Human
Attributes: Agility d8, Smarts d10, Spirit d6, Strength d4, Vigor d6
Skills: Dustcraft d10, Fighting d4, Knowledge: Weaponcrafting d10, Notice d6, Repair d4, Shooting d8
Pace: 6, Parry: 5, Toughness: 5, Charisma: 0
Gear: Unarmed Strike d4 (Str), Gravitas, Glasses
Special Abilities:
• Semblance, Aura (10 Points)
• Dark Secret (Stole Schnee Company Schematics)
• Heavy Sleeper: Sleeps in, has trouble waking up.
• Bad Eyes: -2 to shoot or notice distant targets, can wear glasses
• Curious: Must check out everything and solve all mysteries
• Weaponcrafting Mastery: 3 more points to modify primary weapon forms
• Tri-Weapon Mastery: Can design a 3rd weapon mode using points gained by Weaponcrafting mastery.
Personal Details:
Semblance: Gravity. Carmine can adjust his relative gravity, allowing him to walk on walls or the ceiling as if normal ground, as well as save himself from lethal falls. (Wall Walker Power/single rank of Flight power)

Carmine was the son of a Schnee Dust company researcher. He was always more interested working on devices and playing with the stuff his father took home to work on. Though his father wouldn't admit it, Carmine was part of the reason for his work success. The child's different perspective allowed him to approach design problems more readily, and his father made it far into the research department this way.

Carmine was applying to attend the academy when he needed to provide something that set him up to be a good hunter. Lacking the physical strength of some of the other fighters, he instead took a design that his father had been working on and disguised it, building it into his hunter's weapon. Later on his father's project was black-listed as too dangerous to use, and all his research documents were confiscated. His father's bosses suspected that the man had been stealing company secrets, so he was put under serious scrutiny. Nothing has come of it, and he still works for the Schnee company, but it would be highly coincidental should his son Carmine start displaying experimental weapon tech in the field.

Carmine didn't know this is happening, as he had left for the academy to start his first year. Thought of as a nerd even among the nerds, no one but the Schnee family can claim to have first year students that understand dust as well as Carmine does. He hopes that he can be a useful support or dust mastering hunter, instead of one who uses brute force.

Unique Weapon: Gravitas (Stave weapon)
Melee Form (5 pts)
This weapon looks like a technological shepherds crook, which has an orb that seems to float in the center of the crook. The staff's grip has a revolver-like chamber for dust to be loaded in capsules like shotgun shells.
Staff (Str+1d4)*
+4 Revolving Dust Chamber: holds up to 30 oz of dust.
+1 Bludgeoning: Has AP2 vs. Rigid armor.
+3 Strong Defense: +1 Parry while wielding.
-2 Low Damage*: Reduce damage by 1 step.
-1 Low Raise Die: Reduce raise damage by 1 step (1d3?)
Total Points spent: 5

Ranged Form (5 pts)
The weapon collapses down into a floating satellite over Carmine's head, while the bands of the crook close into a shining metal halo that hovers around his head, providing targeting data to him while the satellite orb fires volleys of impressively powerful beams at targets.
Turret (2d8*)
+3 Very High-Powered*: Increases ranged damage to 2d8
+3 Multishot: Weapon gains Double Tap.
+3 Long Range: Base Range of 5/10/20.
+2 Very High Raise Die: +2 steps of extra damage on raise (d12's)
-2 Major Hindrance: Owning this weapon gives me a major hindrance (Wanted, Schnee Dust company)
-4 Slow Switch: Changing to this form takes an entire turn.
Total Points spent: 5

Third Form (3 pts)
The weapon compacts and splits down the middle, changing into a pair of rapid-fire pistols that are guided by the targeting orb that hovers between them, making using two at the same time much easier on Carmine. However while in this form, he cannot use the dust he has loaded.
Dual Pistols (2d6)
+4 Mechanical Edge: Using this weapon, Carmine gains the Two-Fisted Edge.
+4 Automatic: This weapon has a rate of fire of 3.
+2 Two-fisted: Weapon is two parts and may be dual-wielded.
+1 Short Range: This weapon has a range of 3/6/12
-4 Slow Switch: Changing to this form takes an entire turn.
-2 Unstable: Rolling snake eyes causes backfire.
-2 Hardline Loader: This weapon cannot load dust cartridges.

Total Points spent: 3

@Aloha - I am good for whatever really. I'm sure we can fill in the spots by having the characters roleplay and have a meet & greet and initial opinions formed and what not! If we want to wait though till you're back, sounds glorious to me. Have fun with the boyfriend and be safe! :D

That actually sounds like a good plan. I'll probably kick off the thread before we go on our trip with an open RP that I can keep minimal tabs on as the GM. Once I'm back and ready I'll switch over to the game proper. :)

That sounds great. :)

Ok so right now I have two character concepts I think would be interesting and they both fill completely different roles.

First is my Marksman

Sinn Lazu:

Race: Human
Heroic M
Dark Secret M
Beyond the Walls m
Uni-form Weapon m

Edge:
Agi d8
Beast Master
Arcane Background: Aura Mastery
(Heal, Armor)
Weaponcraft Mastery

Weapon: Large hunting rifle w/ bayonet
Extreme Raise Die +3
Long range +3
High powered +2
Gunpowder -1
Limited Ammo -1
Extra Damage 4
10

Str d4
Agi d8
Vig d6
Spi d6
Sm d8

Traits
Fight d4
Shooting d8
Notice d6
Investigation d4
Knowledge WeaponCrafting d4
Grimm d4
Dustcraft d4
Repair d4
Tracking d4
Survival d4
Riding d4
Climb d4

Semblance:
Mindcontrol 3
Telepathy 2

Concept: Naturist family lives outside civilization due to self exile for their ability to control others. They are able to survive in the wild as they lack most of the negative emotions that attracts Grimm and are able to avoid them. They are very nomadic and have helped several smaller settlements through the years mostly in passing thought to be just passing Hunters. The latest incident though lead to a full investigation by (insert nation here) when Sinn accidentally revealed his ability to control Grimm even so far as to have a small one as a pet. With so much pressure the family agreed he would join a school as a hunter while he and they try to understand his semblance and better how to use it against the Grimm.

Major Concerns: Can Grimm be controlled in this setting? will people know if mind controlled? I was planning on doing minor suggestions (subconscious) without being noticed but any commands outside the norm instantly similar to Pyrrha subtly moving metal while obvious when lifting/floating/recalling it. The Major hindrance is if found out that he can fully control people as well then he would be wanted. if it is subtle that works. if it is obvious would change it to Vow or code of honor to not use for personal gain.

Second option brawler

Onyxia Irises:

Faunus: Skunk
Curious: M
Clueless: M
Quirk: m (pretends to be cat faunus. doesn't like being made fun of for being a skunk wears perfume and trim/dyes tail)
Enemy: m (White Fang)

Edge:
Agi d8
Aura Mastery
(Heal, Armor)
Two Fisted
Ambidextrous

Weapon: Two Tonfas long section folds in to form sawn off double barrel shotguns.

Bludgeon: 1
Two-Fisted: 2
High Damage: 2
5

Short: 1
Double-barrel: 2
Two-Fisted: 2
Spread: 1
Gunpowder: -1
5

Str: d6
Agi: d8
Vig: D6
Spi: d6
Sm: d6

Semblance:
Jinx 4
Super skill 1 (fighting)

Traits:
Fighting: d6 (d10)
Shooting: d6
Notice: d6
Knowledge:
(WeaponCraftin) d4
(Dustcraft) d4
Repair: d4
Swimming: d4
Climb: d4
Gambling: d4
Lockpicking: d4
Stealth: d6

Onyxia is a Skunk faunus with an interesting relationship with luck. She has always hated the stereo type of being a skunk ontop of being a faunus so goes to no end to pretend to be a common black cat. Even going so far as to always wear perfume on top of impeccable hygiene and trims her skunk tail and dyes it black. She will typically hide her tail for first impressions but pay it no mind afterward. she is a very close range fighter but half the time her enemies end up giving up having their weapons jam/break or just fumble over themselves as she seems to always dance of the way of their attacks. She is currently has several white fang leaders annoyed at her as she is currently accidentally responsible for dispersing 5 large recruitment rallies. she has since had her scent gland removed but they have taken it personally.

Additional question. Can we use the Savage worlds athletics skill. I saw it in the Interface 0 2.0 it combines swim and climb and considering how extremely athletic all rwby characters are I thought it would be appropriate. or should we not worry about that as in the RWBY world running jumping falling and all kinds of feats of athleticism are extreme and considered stunts. can't tell you how many times I made an awesome character and get defeated by a stream or having to climb a tree in savage worlds because I frogot to put it in on char creation.

Oh man, I love them both. Whoever you don't end up playing I'll toss onto a rival team if that's cool. :)

With your athletics concern since it affects both characters: I'd rather not use athletics and I generally try not to throw challenges for obscure skills at people unless they're trying to go out of their way to use them. I'm more willing to allow power stunts from the Super Powers Companion if you really need to do something special in a pinch.

Don't forget about ballistic movement, either. Why climb things with your hands when you can climb them... with bullets?! :D

Sinn:

Oh man he's super cool and opens up a bunch of setting questions I kind of want to explore, but... I'm gonna say the Grimm pet is right out. Young Grimm are explicitly stated to be mindless and attack on sight. Only Grimm that are hundreds of years old have any sort of intelligence, which is basically just enough caution to not attack humans unless they're weak. Grimm as a whole are antithetical to humans--I would still say a mind control power that allows you to affect Grimm at all is extraordinary enough for Sinn to be picked up by Beacon.

I could see a nomad tribe living without enough negative emotion to attract Grimm, that part is totally fine, and I also like the idea of non-sanctioned, family-trained hunters. I'm picturing low-tech people closer to Bloodborne hunters than the hyper-aggressive, high-tech, nation-backed Remnant hunters, which is really cool to me.

I still need to update the PDF, but one ruling I should also make clear is that between Necessary Evil and the Super Powers companion, take the more expensive version of the power. Ergo, Mind Control would cost your 5 point allotment.

Onyxia:

I really like the idea of a gambler/petty thief with Jinx as a power. :) (I'm also biased towards brawlers because Melee combat is almost always more interesting to me than ranged combat)

I see you too ascribe to the "put a d4 in everything you could ever want so you don't have to waste an advance on it later" school of thought ;)

She needs the Outsider racial hindrance. I think a scent gland would also come under the "only one animal trait" rule (and the most extreme animal trait we've seen in series is Tucson's claws--everybody else either has ears, tails or horns/antlers). Maybe there's just an unfair stereotype about Skunk faunus? Most prejudice against Faunus in general seems to run on stereotypes that don't really hold water to begin with.

Taking White Fang as an enemy is still fine, you can be a nuisance/disperse recruitment rallies without a scent gland. :P

Hey so something that Schythe asked me IRL about my semblance. Can I just take Force control? the super powers companion has that in there and it does what I want it to do. It would be cleaner than using multiple powers to try to get the right feel.

I agree that melee combat is more interesting in RWBY; I had made Carmine as a ranged character specifically because it bugged me that for some reason a high caliber sniper rifle round at nearly point blank range did less damage than a punch to the face. :/

More me having cognitive dissonance with the genre conventions than anything else, I'm sure.
