Can I get a shot past this big brute? Would I have a chance to turn my head and see what is in the other room?
*winces* Whoa, Calistria's Wasp, that was some punch. Vulgar better get in there as back-up. What's Pixie doing? Singing? More chanting, not from Pixie... eesh, they have a finger-wingler. We haven't talked about that.
1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2 Will save
That's a funny feeling, like a pulling on my mind... getting me to do...
DM Krallek |
To the rest of you:
Kellic's quick reflexes just might be his undoing. As soon as the arrows slam into the sick elf, Kellic jumps to his feet and rushes forward to meet the brute in close combat. He throws a solid punch that merely glances off the armored brute who simply smiles and returns the attack in kind. He lands a bone crunching shot to Kellic's forehead with such violent fury it spins Kellic around to face the rest of you where he stands briefly before his eyes lose focus, his knees buckle, and he falls to the ground unconscious.
Vulgar yells in fury as he reacts too slowly to assist his fallen comrade. Then he also loses consciousness and slumps to the ground.
Byron jumps up and in one fluid motion he pulls out his bow, cocks an arrow, and pulls back the bowstring to take aim. Just as he starts to sight the brute something pulls at his mind and he too falls gently to sleep. The arrow released from your bow a moment too soon flies true and nearly hits its mark just below the helmet line at the exposed neck nicking his throat and causing him to bleed. The last thing you see before you lose consciousness is the orcish brute looking menacingly at Pixie as he pulls out his falchion and advances ...
Pixie, I suspect that the spell you are casting is Hypnotism? It seems like it from the description. I will roll your 2d4 hd and your will save too I suppose just to speed things up.
Pixie's will save against sleep 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
You can affect up to 2d4 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 of creatures if you make your will save (which you did).
Minion 1: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Minion 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
The two minions in the back stop and stare at you like you are a rock legend ... and they start chanting Elvis! Elvis! The orc however, doesn't even bat an eyelash as he rushes forward pulling out his falchion. he rushes forward and slams his gauntleted fist into your shoulder.
Huur's attack on Pixie: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 for 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 and you too lose consciousness and fall to the floor.
To Byron:

And it looks like a TPK...
urrrk' ack...tis a mortal blow...
I pivot on my left foot three times and fall to the ground in a bloody heap. Zero hit points..
If I can I will bluff to play dead in the hopes of doing somethinggb to wake the sleepers before they get killed...

Sorry bud ... I went back and edited the previous post while you were posting ... go back and re-read it.
DM Krallek |
Byron easily breaks free of his bindings and then sets about freeing Vulgar and applying the salve to both Pixie and Kellic. You are both now at 5 hp. After gathering up your equipment you notice your weapons were poorly hidden in a cubby hole in the rubble outside. You wonder if it isn't perhaps another gift from your gnomish benefactor. All of your gold is also gone; including that ring you found in the croc lair and any other any of you may have acquired along the way. You still have the 3 applications of the salve you acquired from the alchemist though.
What do you do next?
Byron Halfleaf |
Is the only way out by following the brute and the gnome, or is there a back door? If there is another way out, I will take my gear and head for it. Either way:
Stealth ('cause I'm gonna try to be 'shhh' about the whole thing): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Two faces that I'll have to remember; one to thank and one to kill.
*Motions for the rest of the group to follow after making sure the coast is clear.*
Kellic Runefist |
BAH...silly monk is in the way!! I can't get through the door frame to attack that big ugly orc.
Move it monk...get the spell caster in the back!! leave the big ugly fella to me!
1d20+5 will save
You don't have to worry about me being in the way, because our jackass DM just killed me with one hit...
Death save number 1 = 1d20 ⇒ 9
Pixiedust |
For what it is worth, I was trying to my bard ability Fascinate on the half orc, thus the will save. If he failed he would have watched me as I tried rousing my sleeping comrades. Ah well, thus goes rat bastard dm...
One complaint I have is that this style of play reduces the flexibility of the table top game; as the last man in the round, I would have liked the option to modify my actions to what happens before my turn...just an observation.
Byron Halfleaf |
Hey, Krellek, view changes from the other side of the screen, eh?
I blame the DM for any and all player happiness or dissatisfaction. Let's be honest, unless it's me who's DMing...every DM is a dickwad.
LOL...just kidding Don. Brent and Ryan are pricks too.
Just like a text from a 13 year old. I would love to see what would happen if you were DM.... let's all just imagine what sort of messed up, backward, hick world that would be for a second... go on, I dare you.
*Gets closer to the party, huddle-like.*
What say you? Do we take the opportunity to follow that brute, or run?
*Looks at Krellic and Pixie.* You two are the most hurt, but you are welcome to my salve. If we time this right, that half-orc, Hurr fella will take care of anything in our path for the rest of the tower and we can jump him when he gets a bit beat-up. Heh, I guess you know my vote.
*Flashes wicked grin.*
Pixiedust |
i groan, rub my bloody shoulder, bemoan the fares that have once again laid me low. On the bright side, this time it isn't my @$$hole bleeding. I say we finish exploring this tower, then go back and squeeze gold and information from that alchemist.
I begin to sing a funeral dirge as I gear up and frisk the dead elf...if need be I cast dancing lights so we can see a bit better.
Ooc: grumble, grumble, arsenal of potent magic and I get punched out...
Byron Halfleaf |
*Eyes light up at glimpse of shortbow.*
Well, now, isn’t that a sight for a fella that is doing his darnedest to stay out of direct combat. *Reaches down to pick it up.* This would do damn fine for putting a couple of arrows into that Huur-fella’s back. I take it that we are interested in following him?
If yes, then off I sneak to glance around the next corner or listen to the next corner for any danger at the first door or corner.
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Now those rolls can't be quite right...
DM Krallek |
Byron Halfleaf |
Sneak to G11 with a 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 Stealth roll and peek around the doorway's corner with a 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 Perception.
If clear, listen at door 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11.
Man, when I roll above a 10 you will really see how awesome I am. This dice roller is broken, definately broken.
DM Krallek |
Byron, I believe we can go to town and get a remove curse on your character. Its really hard to be a skill monkey when you roll like that. You aren't gonna live long.
As you peer into open doorway you see a room completely choked with rubble. Over the top of the rubble you can just make out a tiny bit of daylight which you believe to be a doorway that leads back to the original room you entered through. There doesn't seem to be much of interest in this room ... well nothing that you wouldn't need an escavator to find anyways.
Byron Halfleaf |
So, is there any noise from the door that would indicate that there is something to worry about on the other side? If not, I'll open it quietly and start up the stairs:
For the door, stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Up the stairs: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
To perceive something before it perceives me: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Kellic Runefist |
Why are we following these guys? It took them 6 seconds to wipe out the entire group of us and now we're chasing after them?!
These guys are even crazier than I thought... Maybe they are worth hanging around with after all.
*Kellic applies his salve to fully heal before doing anything else.*
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 Perception
Pixiedust |
Apply salve.
Stealth 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
pickpocket bow out of Byron's hands 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Bluff him into defending against hideous beast hiding in the room 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
okay, scratch the last 2 actions...
(in a whisper)Byron, that's a nice bow...are you sure you know how to use it? why aren't we going back to the alchemist? we got his shrooms...
Byron Halfleaf |
(in a whisper)Byron, that's a nice bow...are you sure you know how to use it? why aren't we going back to the alchemist? we got his shrooms...
*Whisper, fists clentched* Why I oughta....*relaxes* oh, yeah, that bow. Ahem, I expected you to compliment me on something different. Well, you think that it'll help you out? *Offers bow to Pixie.*
We'll make note of this shall we, as one kind turn deserves another.
Listening at door on map below: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Byron Halfleaf |
*Looks at Kellic and shrugs*
*Whispers* Let's get the drop on whatever is in there. *Grinning wickedly.* Don't wait too long before following us in there, Vulgar. You too Pixie.
*Slowly draws rapier, then moves forward in a crouch.*
Sneaking through the door: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Perception, if needed: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
For the love of JC!
DM Krallek |
Racks for weapons line the walls of this poorly lit chamber; above the racks hang various shields, pieces of armor, weapons, and standards on display. Most of the racks are empty, but a few weapons remain in place. A horrible stench fills the room as well, akin to the smell of rotten eggs mixed with the reek of an open sewer.
Perception checks to notice Byron:
1d20 ⇒ 16 and 1d20 ⇒ 5. so one beats your stealth roll and one does not. I will roll initiative here and then deal with the suprise round and then we will deal with the first round afterwards ...
Kellic: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Byron: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Pixie: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Vulgar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Badguy(s): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10
You guys are currently stacked up on the stairs so I will need you to tell me where you are headed. The initiative order is like this ...
Kellic
Vulgar
Byron
Pixie
Badguy(s)
Badguy 1 suprise attack on Byron 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 damage. Its dark in here but you think the javelin that hit you came from around area c10ish. Sorry, I will have to update the map later.
Byron, I will also need a fort save DC 10.
Ross Byers RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 |
Byron Halfleaf |
Fort Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
If still conscious, with 3 hp I'll opt to salve myself up for +5 hit points.
Calistria's luck is not with me today.
Or in any life and death situation it would seem. You would think that enough harlots and wenches have cried the goddess's name on my account. Oh, well, I'll just have to work harder at getting her on my side.
Pixiedust |
Carefully step to I10. Ready action to shhot whatever threatens my new best bud, Byron,
Attack at 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Damage 1d6 ⇒ 3
Ooc: OK gents I am out for the next 24-48 hours. Will check in when I get to my sister-in-law's. Have a great Xmas and new years :-) Be nice to each other.
DM Krallek |
Ok, so I have updated the map now to include the two lizardmen that are currently in the room. I have also moved all of you as per your instructions. Please let me know if those are the right squares before I "apply" your attacks. If you would prefer a different spot let me know.
So let me know if this is where you want to be.
Cheers,
DB
PS Pixie, have an awesome time in Japan. One of these days I want to go there ... you might have to come with me as the only Japanese I speak, I learned from Hollywood. Oh and Sapporo beer commercials!
