The one post per day is a minimum. Post as much as you like. The more the merrier. If most start posting more often then I will push things along.
As you are searching for more mushrooms and headed in a generally northern direction, none of you seem surprised when a set of large jaws disengages itself from the water and lunges forward at ....
1 = Byron
2 = Vulgar
3 = Pixie
4 = Kellic
1d4 ⇒ 1
Initiative:
Kellic: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Byron: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Pixie: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Vulgar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Croc: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
DM Krallek
Sorry guys, I jumped the gun a tad. Please choose a location on the map where you are standing. We will go from there. I will have to re roll who the critter attacks first.
On this map, simply select a row and column for your location.
Map.
Byron Halfleaf
Standing on D1.
Shortbow against flat footed croc: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 to hit for 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + (6) = 11 damage (including sneak attack).
Five foot step over to E2.
*Low whistle.* Good show fellas! 'ave at 'im!
This croc might provide enough for a new pair of boots for one of us.
DM Krallek
Initiative Order:
Byron
Kellic
Pixie
Vulgar
Croc
Byron shoots his shortbow but misses with a 10
Kellic steps up to B3 and lands both attacks for 13 damage
Pixie shoots his shortbow from way off in the shadows for another 6 damage and notices a second croc rushing up from the west.
Vulgar steps in and smashes the skull of the first croc and he dies on the spot in a spray of gore.
2nd Croc attacks 1d4 ⇒ 3 ... Pixie
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 for 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 damage *MISSES*
Tail: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14 for 1d12 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 damage *MISSES*
A most fortunate first round of combat! Now save that bard!
Byron Halfleaf
Moves to A1, the long way and avoiding any attacks of opportunity, drawing his rapier and flanking croc.
*Byron moves to flank the croc and draws his rapier in one fluid motion.*
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 to hit, for 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (3) = 8 damage (including flanking sneak attack.
Take that, cursed reptilian malignant. C'mon Pixiedust, finish him off like only you can!
Byron Halfleaf
Unless I fooked it up you should be able to click on that map link above Vulgar and it should just open up the map without dropbox. Can anyone else verify? It looks like Byron can open it. We have PD today so I am afk mostly ... will be back and forth when I can.
Opens in new window upon click.
Byron Halfleaf
Me thinks you are using the first msp link. I made a second maplink bud try that
That was my bad, I reposted putting my new location at A1, on the other side of croc2 from Pixiedust. After recounting, I think the croc would get an AoO as otherwise I have to make 2 diagonal moves.
Pixiedust
OOC: some of us do actually work all day like an F-ing slave....
I 5' step back to D1. Provided the Croc is still alive, I cast hypnotism on it DC 16 will save, with a +2 as we're in combat. I affect 2d4 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4 HD of creatures...it doesn't need to understand, just hear and see my repetitive droning...
Your gestures and droning incantation fascinate nearby creatures, causing them to stop and stare blankly at you. fascinated creature is entranced by a supernatural or spell effect. The creature stands or sits quietly, taking no actions other than to pay attention to the fascinating effect, for as long as the effect lasts. It takes a –4 penalty on skill checks made as reactions, such as Perception checks. Any potential threat, such as a hostile creature approaching, allows the fascinated creature a new saving throw against the fascinating effect. Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a ranged weapon at the fascinated creature, automatically breaks the effect.
Come on Croco-baybeeee, see my tasty hand waving in front of your snout...nice crocodile, just look at my hand....C'mon you apes, kill this thing!!!
Kellic Runefist
If it is still alive and follows Pixie's spell then I take my AoO
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6to hit for 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 damage.
and then I attack on my turn, which should give me a flank for 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 to hit for 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4damage and a second hit from flurry for 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 to hit for 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11damage
if it doesn't draw the AoO, then I simply Flurry of blows.
If it attacks me for more than 6 damage, I fall back.

Round 2:
Byron: *Misses*
Kellic: *Misses*
Pixie: *Casts Hypnotize and 5' Step*
Croc: Will save roll 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 *FAIL*
Vulgar: No longer flanking Attacks! *Hits* for 11 Damage
Croc: *No longer fascinated because of Vulgar's attack* Attacks Vulgar
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 for 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 damage
Tail: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19 for 1d12 ⇒ 3 damage
Vulgar gets hit twice and takes 13 damage plus grapple
Grapple Roll: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19 *success*
The croc starts dragging the dwarf to the river's edge. You really don't want this to happen.
Both Byron and Kellic get an AOO ... make it count.
Kellic Runefist
*Kellic jumps to Vulgar's aid*
Vulgar! No!
Time to get me a new pair of boots...
AoO 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6to hit and 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5damage.
Is there any chance of chasing it and Vulgar? If there is I follow and attack again.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7to hit and 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6damage.
FRAKIN' dice roller!!!!
Byron Halfleaf
*Lunges after the retreating croc, rapier leading;*
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 to hit
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 for damage
Can someone slip around to cut off this creature's route to the water? I just started to fancy having the dwarf around!
2nd AoO before croc gets to the water:
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 to hit
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 for damage
Take that you leathery, so to be boots, swamp-dweller. Give us back our dwarf!
DM Krallek
Ah ok. On your sheet it says for armor just scale mail ... didn't notice the shield in the description. Ok add the 3 back and once the others take their turn you can make your check. You are "prone" right now and the croc looks "bloodied" to use a 4ed term.
On that note, I might get you guys to do a digital character sheet so the format is standardized. I'd put it up on my dropbox site and you guys would have access to it online. Just food for thought.
Byron Halfleaf
Vile creature of scaly-kind! There will be no dwarven snack for you!
*Dives on croc, using all of his weight to plunge his blade deeply into the beast's lack of neck.*
To hit: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
If the DM chooses to give any bonuses to attack of damage for Byron attempting to physically impede it from getting the water, it would be kindly appreciated at this point.
Byron Halfleaf
*Dives on croc, using all of his weight to plunge his blade deeply into the beast's lack of neck.*
To hit: 1d20+1
Damage: 1d6+1
*Byron slips off the creature’s back like a hardened biscuit off of a buttered pan, covering himself in mud on the far side of the crocodile.*
Freakin’ dice! Random my tail feather! Oh, well, it’s the thought that counts.| Pixiedust |
*I take another 5' step away from the croc, strike a suitably heroic pose with my bow and sing:*
Byron, Kellic, and Vulgar the dwarf/attack and kill the croc/smash its skull and save the dwarf/'cuz Pixie's songs rock!
Inspire courage= plus 1 to attack and damage while I sing.
I am so happy that thing bit the dwarf not me....I wonder what dwarf tastes like?...what rhymes withe dwarf? Wharf? Morph? Shoot, c'Mon, kill the damned thing already
DM Krallek
Vulgar, in a near panic as the croc had ahold of his leg, grabs his axe and throws a wild swing at its front quarters and cleaves its leg right off.
With that, the croc dies.
An excellent first combat boys! Jolly good fight. You really didnt want to be fighting that in the water. After it dies you have no problem getting out.
Pixiedust
Sigh...piece of cake. Glad to help out, a little credit here. A round of applause?
Hmmm, Vulgar did not seem to be inspired by my singing...sad, must be something wrong with his ears...
ooc: be sure to include the tiny (5% bonus to hit) +1 on attacks and damage when I say I inspire courage...after a while, it is really the only thing I've got left :).
*Pixiedust carefully picks his way through the much and carnage, avoiding getting dirty, and using prestidigitation to remain clean, and lays hands boldy upon Vulgar's wounds, singing a ditty about Jack and Diane...*
I cast Cure Light Wounds on the dwarf for 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4.
Vulgar
whew, out of the grasp of that croc. Wait! what is that freaky elf coming over here for?! what is he chanting? He (she?) is going to touch me!! I'm too weak to resist...
What are you doing? Don't touch...
Hey!! that was nice...I feel good, not great, but way better than a few minutes ago. Might have to protect that elf more often
*I rub the salve on myself too*
now I have 14 of 15 HP left
DM Krallek
Thats 1200 xp boys. Nice work. Sorry, meant to post this on the earlier post but I was typing on my phone which takes an hour or so. Well that and the fact that it was like 4:30 am too.
After a near death experience, the party dusts itself off and gathers up its courage knowing that they work well as a team! This adventuring stuff just might pay off in the end if you can keep up the fine teamwork.
Byron Halfleaf
*Picks himself out of the mud as gracefully as possible, brushes himself off and cleans his blade before sheathing it.*
Good show boys! Are you alright Vulgar? You are welcome to use my poultice if need be. He does look a bit better now than a few moments ago.
Heh, it would seem that I should stick more with my bow than blade. No weapon Krellic? Those fists seemed to do a bit of a trick on that crocodile's scaly hide. And Vulgar, I wouldn't want to be on the other side of that axe for all of the gems in Golrion. Pixiedust, I must admit that your golden voice did do some good in this fight as aid to those meeting the creature toe to toe, and that is of no little consequence.
It would seem that I've done pretty well with surrounding myself with those that can handle themselves. We might get this thing done after all.

As none of you have trained knowledge nature, I feel that you are all from this area so you may have heard a certain tidbit about the ecology and habits of the local crocs in passing or in general conversation. So I will permit an untrained knowledge local check and add in your int modifier too please.
