Well, now that I've gained Leadership, should I start distributing my organization stats? IB already knows my cohort. =]
My base leadership score is 12 (7 [level] + 5 [cha]) but I don't know what reputation modifiers apply.
Still thinking of a suitable enough organization/cult name! Best I've thought of so far is Heitr which means hot or burning. It also sounds like Hater which is an excellent addition to my wordplays.
Also, one of the modern descendants is apparently the Icelandic heitur which can mean 'hot/smoking' in the slang sense (e.g. That woman was hot.) Any confirmation on that, IB? ;)

Caladwhen |

Ugh, to pickup the hint and then be so way off. I should learn to just keep Cala's big mouth shut, I'm wrong more often than not these days. Oh well, sadly level 7 will have to wait (you have no idea how badly I want Animate Dead!)
In any event, good work Sindran.
As an aside, it might be worth it to see how that throne works at some point, but the treasure room comes first of course.
The apparition inside looks kinda like a banshee, whatever it is. Anyway to know what it is IB? Perhaps a knowledge check of some sort?
Edit: I pray it's not a banshee actually, those things are hellishly powerful.

Is there any particular way you want us to build our cohorts? Point-buy for stats, gear etc...?
focus & foible method, as detailed way back here!
item limit 1d6 x 1000 and I'm keeping an option to lower that later. Are there any races/classes you want us to avoid?
well, the more exotic, the more you will need to provide a good reason for such a creature to be here. I think sources include folks from Farholde, folks recruited by the Cardinal or the Baron, or anything that could qualify as 'local wildlife' from the jungle around the horn.
If you go overboard, you're going to have to sell it to us all, and we may not buy it :) that's all.Regarding the organizations, Aerent is willing to join up...
Sounds like we will have one pool of 3 org's then. That should give us some pretty powerful capabilities.
For now, please only worry about statting a cohort.Once you start the ritual, we will move in week-by-week steps; in that weekly context, your organisation including your specialists will simply do the work you tell them to, and in that weekly scale, we just won't worry about who's doing what exactly. At the end of the week, you get a status report from your cohort, and make plans for the next week.
Talon - when the ritual starts, we'll be at the stage where you guys can start creating items for yourselves - I've noticed your request for a medium armor a few times ;)
perhaps things could go as fast as one item per week, if you're not overly greedy. But - not yet.
But all of that is not until later... After tonight's meeting with with Ezra-damned-hot-or-something, only 11 days remain of the 14 Hexor & Vexor gave you, and there's still plenty to do before you can start.

I'm confused - did Cala identify her as a banshee or was that just RPing? I thought identifying a banshee would be Knowledge (undead), no?
let me tell you, it *is* a banshee!
...or you could roll knowledge planes, DC20 and find out for real.
...I tried irony on a messageboard; always a bad idea.
As a result, Cala posted something absolutely totally beautiful, thinking Ezra actually was a banshee.I went with that, because it makes sense, I already made some changes to Ezra because of the beautiful art I picked up at some point; this fits, and because the game as written (a dread wraith CR6) would literally not even be half as cool as the banshee (CR13).
I now have a lot more work to do to make Ezra fit - but it's totally worth it, because it got our Ice Queen down on her knees.

Caladwhen |

I'm confused - did Cala identify her as a banshee or was that just RPing? I thought identifying a banshee would be Knowledge (undead), no?
To further clear any confusion, it's both. Caladwhen successfully misidentified :P the Banshee in the discussion page with a knowledge roll, but the fear is strictly role playing.
The banshee is a fate known only to elven women according to the ecology description for Banshee, particularly elven women like Caladwhen... I figured seeing one in the flesh (or ether in this case) would kinda freak Cala out.

Caladwhen |

Yet again... I keep reading these things before going to bed, and missed the nuance in your post, which is plain as day now that I'm reading it for the second time. I think you're right though, my error led to something much more interesting, albeit more scarey to contend with.
Having said that, I can now breath a slight sigh of relief. A fully powered Banshee would be terrifying for this group to have to contend with, since Wail of the Banshee alone could have resulted in a TPK.

Even though it's one of the most quiet times in the campaign, there is a whole lot going on.
I've dropped hints on a ton of sidequests (the alchemy golem, for instance), we're setting up our organisation, getting ready for some serious item-creation, and beside all that, almost off-topic, we're getting ready to actually do what we're here to do i.e. perform the frckin' ritual.
To make sure everyone gets a few responsibilities they like, it's a good idea that each of you pick two or three things to focus on; leave the rest of the tasks for the rest of the party.
Think about tasks that you think would fit best with your character; think terms like defense / offense / sideline support. Or research / forming a long-term strategy / or dealing with short term tactics; or think in themes: magic, combat, scouting / hunting, Farholde politics, etc...
I'd like to ask you all to think of a handful of such keywords (and please do make up those I left out!) to describe your character's preferred day-to-day occupation.
It helps you focus, and it helps me feed those interests and build your character.
the goal is to have a few keywords describing your character's interests, and if a quest comes along, the theme of the quest could make it very clear who'd want to pursue that quest and who whouldn't.
When everyone hits Level 7, this will slowly begin to be relevant, so there's time to think :) If you have found your keywords, I'd love to see them in a PM if that's ok!

Caladwhen |

Sounds good IB, I'll post in detail about focus Caladwhen would be suited for.
I'll post later this evening... speaking of which, just to confirm, the seal is on the top floor guarded by the lightning elemental correct?

Caladwhen |

Hey IB,
Sorry, fell asleep early last night... exhausting week. So to your request earlier, some activities Caladwhen will definitely be involved in would be with respect to the Golem, and I think Talon agreed to help with that one as well.
Additional tasks would be researching, particularly dealing with Vetra-Kali. I think dealing with the big on day 222 is going to be interesting, and Caladwhen would like to be as prepared as possible. As much as she is uncomfortable with Ezra, the banshee might be a good source of information... plus anything salvageable in the Horn that might give some details.
Beyond that, studying all the magical intricacies of the Horn would be a worthwhile endeavor, as well as creating some wondrous items and raising a small undead army.
Keywords: getting golem operational, research into dealing/bargaining with Vetra-Kali, horn defense (using created undead), and wondrous items.

Aerent Sephim |

Keywords: horn defense (mundane with the minions, traps, etc), combat, Farholde politics (keeping a close watch on the Baron and the Seventh).
Still working on ideas for defending the Horn, but we need to explore the 2nd level first. We've got the room descriptions so I've got some ideas, but we haven't officially explored yet, so there might be some important discoveries on that level. Not sure how much more we have on 3rd, but hopefully we can move to the 2nd after that.

Oret Stonechild |

Oret will help with horn defense - as Aerent, on the mundane end of things (taking advantage of the hints you gave on level 0, for example). He's always on board for a combat support role - that's why he was brought on in the first place, after all. Also, possible reconnaissance, given his stealth and perception.
He's not good for actual social interaction, debate, negotiation, etc., etc., so should probably stay away from Farholde (except when escorting others back and forth, if required).

Caladwhen |

for finding the actual treasury, and for not getting yourself killed by Ezra at first sight, you get a fair load of XP. Dare I say it? I guess I'll have to.... Sarenrae Save us all - Caladwhen has hit level 7....! (and so have the rest of you ;) grats!
HAHAHH! I can finally raise all kinds of goodies, including variant undead such as fast zombies, hordes of Undead all at once now... let the fun begin ;)
It's been a crazy day at work, but I do plan to post Cala's response to Ezra's return in detail this evening.

Caladwhen |

Hoping you feel better soon Aerent, the flu is not fun.
As for Caladwhen, here is the level up crunch.

Incidentally IB, where do you want us to post cohort creation information? Here in discussion, or privately in an email?

![]() |

Roll in discussion, and please make a msgboard alias for the Mook errr your closest friend.
Also, you should choose hoe you want tot spend points into the organisation stats. See the Masters of the wicked doc.
Once you have decided on a name for your criminal organization, I'll setup an alias for them.
And let's not forget that Hexor 'n' Vexor expect results in 11 days from now.
Oh.
And, the loot..!

Caladwhen |

I've been swamped with work...Down to level 2 then?
You and me both... it was parent-teacher night yesterday, which makes for a very long day.
Anyway, level 2 sounds good!
As an aside, I'll be away for this weekend and won't be able to post from Friday until Sunday night. Feel free to bot Caladwhen if need be.

Morvius Zaan |

Right, character established, let's roll stuff
Focus: 18
Foible: 8
Other stats:
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Drat - IB, would I be allowed to change it to 12, 14, 14, 12? That would be more useful
Hit points
6d8 + 8 ⇒ (7, 4, 4, 6, 8, 1) + 8 = 38
Wealth
2d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 2) + 4 = 10 x 1000

![]() |

Welcome, Morvius. You've set high expectations with your character submission, and I'm looking forward to seeing how you live up to them :)
Don't forget you get a +1 to any one stat, at level 4.
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8<- ignore
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
take these if you prefer, ignore the 8. But it's either your rolls or these.
How much is that pipe worth, by the by? ;)
And you may want to hide your wealth from Talon - he might want in. That's a good roll :D

Morvius Zaan |

Thanks all - lots to catch up on I see! I Will post more later.
Thanks for the rolls IB, I will stat Morvius up over the weekend - I think the next few posts will be mostly roleplay anyway, assuming Talon doesn't take a swing at me...

![]() |

what the whut?!
Well Talon, I can only say you had that coming :) You can't just bully everyone :) And it's nice to see that Morvius is not incompetent.
A little rivalry is good; rivalry is no more than a fart of ambition. And ambition can bring people to outperform themselves.
But let's keep that rivalry within the constraints of the contract; I -I mean, Dessiter- will make you pay if you cross the line.
...Feeling lucky? Try me.
Sindran, I like your intervention: calm emotions - very neat.
Two were fighting over a spot in the infernal hierarchy, and you took advantage of the situation and proved yourself superior over both these petty squabblers :) That's proper infernal leadership.
Now - about this walking Shrubbery...
You still have a few rounds to setup an ambush; the Huge treant's is still some 200ft away, and you've never seen him go faster than a casual stroll. Aerent, Oret, you're the resident tacticians; what's the plan?

Morvius Zaan |

And it's nice to see that Morvius is not incompetent.
Unless it comes to Will Saves, apparently... This is how Morvius is currently feeling - splendid!
I -I mean, Dessiter- will make you pay if you cross the line.
...Feeling lucky? Try me.
I hope you won't mind if I pass on that offer, DM - you are representing the enemy, after all... :)
Sindran, I like your intervention: calm emotions - very neat.
I second this

![]() |

I'm stalling the Treant encounter until we have input from Aerent and Oret, our resident tacticians. They would have a Plan with regard to dealing with this situation; however their players aren't here right now to share it with us - which is fine, but it means we'll wait a little while.
Tomorrow I have an in-law dinner thing, so I'll be AFK, nodding politely, expressing misc compliments to the chef, and whatnot. I'm really looking forward to that, can you tell?

Oret Stonechild |

Level 7 info:
HP: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 = 6
+1 BAB
Crane Riposte Feat
Unarmed attacks count as cold iron/silver for DR
Life Funnel Hungry Ghost ability
+1 Acrobatics, Intimidate, Kn (History), Kn (Religion), Perception, Sense Motive, Stealth, Survival

Morvius Zaan |

Are we waiting for Aerent and Cala? They've got quite a lot to catch up with - unless you want to keep things going I will post tomorrow evening to give more time.

![]() |

I think they wouldn't want to miss it, so yeah I'd like to give Cala and Aerent a chance (i.e. 24 hours from now) to catch up.
Oret has taken charge of the ambush, but if Aerent or Cala have some additions to the plan, it would only make sense to hear them out before going in.

Caladwhen |

Sindran has the best charisma. But in a group with a murderous monk, emotionless elf, strifeful strix, arrogant antipaladin, and now a temperamental tiefling, that's not saying much.
Hey now, that emotionless elf and arrogant anti-paladin have high charisma scores as well you know ;)
Loved that post by the way Sindran; the inner dialog was very Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes.

Morvius Zaan |

What DID happen to Grumblejack, by the way? It strikes me that a loyal, 10 ft tall walking slab of muscle would not go amiss right now...
DM, is he out of the picture for good?
