Sindran Eithe |
Sindran sniffs. "Don't think I smell anything."
Sindran lets Aerent open the door without comment, amused at his desire to fight. Both doors seem dangerous so might as well pick the one that one of them actually likes.
increddibelly |
Sindran Eithe |
"What about undead fish?" Sindran says, looking at the sea-worn coffins. "This seems somewhat straightforward."
Caladwhen |
Looking off into the corner and clearly lost in thought, Cala grasps the dangers and possibilities.
Snapping back to attention, Cala addresses her companions "Should these dead men rise, they pose a great danger. Having said that, I have the ability to manipulate and control the walking dead, which can help alleviate such threats."
I'll do a more detailed post tomorrow, I'm beat.
Sindran Eithe |
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
"That will come in useful," Sindran's voice comes from the back of the group. "I'm guessing these coffins contain the 'fallen' though they don't seem to be getting up any time soon. We should check them first before the doors. Don't want any surprises."
Caladwhen |
Starring down at the coffins, Caladwhen gauges what they might contain as she answers Sindran's inquiry "One, perhaps two. It is taxing to control the walking dead, but those I do control can be pitted against the others."
increddibelly |
Timeon bravely (at least, he appears to think so) comes up behind. Dropping Sindran's luggage, he looks over your shoulders and gasps.
"..Oh, and now drowned sailors as well? That man and the tramp should've been more quiet instead of blabbering out like that", and, making half-decent imitations of sword fighting, he overconfidently continues: "unwittingly sharing all their information with me - TIMEON the MIGHTY! SQUIRE of BALIN!! GRANDSON of BALENTYYYYNE!!!"
...and that may have been just a little bit too loud as the contents of the far north east coffin starts growning.
Aerent Sephim |
Aerent turns around the glares at the young man, "If you cannot control your volume, I will cut out your tongue. Now be silent!" he hisses through clenched teeth.
"Caladwhen, try to get control of the first ones you see, but let us know if we need to get involved."
Aerent readies his shield and prepares his trident on one hand.
increddibelly |
Timeon: "THAT IS NO Way to speak...to..." at the brink of yet another unfortunate statement, Timeon realises that this is his cue to grovel and cower
The coffin lid breaks to pieces and an obviously unliving bearded man, wearing the remains of an sailor's hat. As it moans, its vocal cords tremble visibly through the countless holes in its rotten flesh.
increddibelly |
I'm thinking Aerent and Talon are in the front, Cala + Sindran behind - Arryn and Timeon-the-Terrible somewhere in between? Regardless, it's coming your way!
For some reason, the reanimated sailor has both his feet shackled together, and this hampers his movement a little bit. This is probably done to slow the spreading of the incredibly foul aroma of dessicated flesh, emanating from the wet, grey creature.
initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Caladwhen |
Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 6
The undead sailor will act before Cala, so feel free to dispatch it if possible. If others come before the end of the round though, Cala can use control undead to try to dominate up to 2HD of whatever these are.
Aerent Sephim |
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Attack, Power Attack (1-hnd): 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 7 - 1 = 18
Damage, Power Attack (1-hnd): 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 = 14
+2 on attack if Aerent goes before it and can charge
Sindran Eithe |
Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
And yuppers, Sindran at the very back.
Delaying Turn.
Sindran frowns when Timeon drops his things and winces when he begins shouting, leaning away to avoid his flailing hands. He wonders if the squire might have been left behind on purpose.
"Be quiet," he tells Timeon, showing some displeasure. He turns his attention to the undead corpse as it rises, grimacing as the awful smell reaches his nose. "Ugh."
increddibelly |
Aerent and the Draugr are on the same initiative, so let's say they move towards eachother and meet in the middle of the room.
As the Draugr turns around the coffins to face north, Aerent storms towards it, trident aimed at its chest. The trident goes in and through the soft flesh with a sickening crunch. While this does leave a gaping hole in the creature's chest, you get the distinct impression that piercing weapons aren't the most effective against this type of creature. Draugr have DR5/bludgeoning or slashing
The drowned sailor looks into Aerent's eyes without fear, as if it would welcome release from its horrid unlife. It does, however, lift its rusted greataxe to swing at you in its next turn.
Draugr damage: 14-5 = 9
In the southwest corner, another coffin starts moaning.
Sindran Eithe |
"Tch." Sindran moves to his fallen backpack, ignoring the cowering Timeon. He drops the bottle of oil he holds in favor of taking out the brand he took from the prison. He hefts his trophy and takes position in front of Caladwhen. "Don't let them get close enough for me to actually use this," he warns.
increddibelly |
Anxious to get on anyone's good side, Timeon the sycophant grabs Sindran's bottle and quickly stuffs it in the backpack.
Talon, you're quick enough to smack the 2nd Draugr in its watterlogged face as it crawls out of its coffin, in this round - You can take an attack of opportunity + your normal attack. I'm assuming it survives, but feel free to surprise me :)
Cala's voice booms across the room, commanding the creatures to obey. The undead turn in her direction...
will save vs Command Undead: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
will save vs Command Undead: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
DC 15, right, Cala?
...and for a moment, the light in their eyes dims - only to burn twice as bright with hatred! Both Draugr now stare straight at our fragile necromancer with no question about their intentions.
Arryn Lerash |
I look in amazement. That was insane! I'd never seen anything like it! It was crazy!
"Cala! That was amazing! How controlled are they, can I touch one?" I say excitedly. This was so strange... It was awesome! This was going into my diary, and I was already planning on a good way to say it...
Today we were all almost taken by the Draugr, until Cala started talking to them! She yelled to them to stop, and they obeyed. It was the most impressive thing I've yet to see a wizard do.

Her hand drawn out towards the Draugr and eyes closed, Cala murmurs an ancient tongue, a blue pale energy emitting from her hand. It is clear though that the magick is causing Cala discomfort as she winces, struggling to keep control.
A bead of sweat falls appears on Cala's normally perfect complexion, and to her allies it almost appears that she might be in some pain. Finally, she drops her hand, the energy dissipating immediately. Looking exhausted and a little frustrated, Cala looks up "They are quite strong and resisting me... I couldn't gain control over them."
Dang... well, luckily I can do this like 8 times per day, so I'll try again next round. Oh, and by the way, the DC is 10 + 1/2 level + my Charisma modified, so it's 14 unfortunately. At level 4 I'm boosting Cala's charisma to 18 to get that extra DC increase.
Talon Dalkar |
The instant the creature rears its' head, Talon gives two quick, deft swings at it, then chants as his weapon pulses for a third one
Att1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Att1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Att1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Concentration1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
wow i actually made the concentration check, too bad i botched the actual attack roll lol. if i had to guess i'd say only the first one hit, but I think there's a chance for the second one so i'll roll damage for both
Damage1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Damage1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

The smelly sailor's armor has rotten away to tatters. Talon's scimitar cuts deeply into the soggy smelly sailor, but the dead flesh resists.
7-5 + 9-5 = 2 + 4 = 6 damage -- and that concludes the first round!
Aerent twists and turns the his trident, breaking bones as he methodically mangles the draugr. 11-5 = 6 damage. Aerent, the next hit is a kill. Describe to us what happens?
[spoiler=hp rolls]
Aerent's Draugr hp: 3d8 + 6 - 9 - 6 ⇒ (1, 3, 6) + 6 - 9 - 6 = 1
Talon's Draugr hp: 3d8 + 6 - 6 ⇒ (8, 8, 2) + 6 - 6 = 18

"Aww..." Arryn replies disappointed. She looks to Cala, seeing her pain. "Thanks Cala, it was a good effort" She says with a smile, as she goes to stab a draugr (She will move to flank with Aerent as she does this).
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Arryn looks carefully at the undead being, as she pulls her rapier back. She notices a soft spot on its head, and without hesitation, she stabs forward, through the creatures ear. She drives forward more than needed, pushing through the opposite side of the head of the Draugr. The tip of her rapier sopping in blood and brain matter, she kicks the creatures leg out from under it. As it falls to the ground she stomps on it's head to relieve the grip it has on her rapier, easily retrieving it and splattering more gore across the floor. She then looks up to Aerent as she wipes off her face, "One for me" She says with a smile.
increddibelly |
ooh, cheeky Arryn! you can add a Kill to your list of 'Things Stolen'!
The remaining Draugr swings its greataxe at Talon. Surprised by the sudden whirl of foul-smelling rotted flesh, the Strix takes a very bad hit from the rusted metal. The Draugr comes up close to Talon, and its stench of rot is so overwhelming, he can barely remain standing.
attacking Talon: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
damage: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
wow, that's a hard hit. And to make matters worse, these guys are so absolutely disgusting, they've been given a special ability 'Nausea : A creature that is damaged by a draugr must make a DC 12 Fortitude save or be nauseated for 1 round.'. Please, Talon, don't botch this roll :)

Want to see why Sindran is terrible at combat? Oh, and flanking if possible. Need all the help I can get....
Sindran moves to help Talon, maneuvering himself near the Dragur. He prepares to swing the brand but a sharp spike of pain distracts him, telling him he's overexerted his damaged arms, and he flinches, missing the Draugr entirely. "Tch."
Weapon Attack Roll: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (7) - 4 = 3
Weapon Damage Roll: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2

I'm thinking Cala will try to control the Draugr again - undead don't grow on trees and she can do it 7 more times.
will save DC14 vs Cala's Command: 1d1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Cala tries a different approach to her spell, and this time, the draugr is overwhelmed and immediately stops attacking Talon! Some part of the undead still seems to be resisting, but it's clear that its will is defeated by Caladwhen's death magic.
--- and we're on to round three!
Aerent and Arryn are near the middle of the room, Sindran and Talon near their new friend in the Southwest corner.
In both the northwest and southeast corner, a coffin explodes in a cloud of wet wood chips, and out of each coffin another shackled Draugr emerges. They lift their axes at the Living who invaded their domain, and will attack in round four.
Caladwhen |
Arm outstretched, this time the blue energy on her hand doesn't dissipate and Cala appears more comfortable. A faint glow appears in the Draugr's eyes, identical in color to the energy emanating from Cala.
"Talon, you can ignore that one... it's under my control now."
Cala will direct the Draugr to attack the other Draugr, and will now switch to her crossbow. Sweet! My first minion!
increddibelly |
I think it's easiest if I roll their attacks / damage?
(no one has acted yet in Round 3)
Caladwhen's pet err, the undead one, not the feathered mongrel charges at its companion in the northwest corner, sending its greataxe forward as hard as it can. Big floppy chunks of rotting sailor spatter onto the North wall.
atk + charge + power attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 2 - 2 = 14
damage: 1d12 + 4 + 4 - 5 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 4 - 5 = 11
Aerent Sephim |
Aerent watches Arryn defeat the monster, then winks at her, ignoring the gore covering his face and chest. "Excellent aim. Glad to soften it up so you could use that toothpick on it."
Turning at the sound of the other undead breaking free of their coffins, he pulls his trident back and thrusts forward as he charges.
If possible, charging the one that was already hit.
Attack, Power Attack, Charge (1-hnd): 1d20 + 7 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 - 1 + 2 = 21
Damage, Power Attack (1-hnd): 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 = 8
Sindran Eithe |
Sindran moves in front of the Draugr in the southeast corner. He takes position and smirks at the moving corpse. "I'll distract this one."
Total Defense (+4 Dodge AC) : (AC 21/17/14)
Caladwhen |
Firmly in control of the walking dead monstrosity, Cala looks up with a slight smirk, her eyes now glowing with a pale blue energy "Excellent... now let's see if I can control this other one." Pointing at the Draugr in the south corner, Cala again begins to summon her will against the dead.
If she can take control of this one, we can make short work of the rest of the coffins I think. Command Undead is so much fun.
