Talon Dalkar |
You should have seen my dragonrider, I took feats and spells just to do this. Ever seen a max damage crit at 60 miles an hour? haha
Talon looks suspiciously up at the crows nest then glances at Oret. The sound of battle pulls his attention away and he remembers Arryn is overboard "Ill get her, deal with these creatures"
just a fluff post, I know I have no actions left this turn. I'll wait for others actions

Aerent is AFK
Aerent strikes the nearest elemental, while yelling at the sailors to get off their lazy bums. They do, and evoke an attack of opportunity from said elemental.
aerent's atk: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 (miss)
dmg: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
elemental atk of opp: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
dmg: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
the unlucky sailor tries to scream, but he drowns in the elemental's fist.
Sindran Eithe |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Sindran is sleeping in his armor. *cheers*
Sindran wakes and immediately snaps into attention. He is no stranger to being woken by sudden danger and he takes the situation in.
Hearing Talon volunteer to get Arryn, he moves towards him, crouched to make a smaller profile. "Wait."
He places a hand on Talon's chest and hovers his other hand over the Strix's skin, moving it around the whole of the Strix's body and chants reminiscent to a blessing. "Hlifa."
Cast Spell: Sanctuary CL 3rd
A warmth spreads through Talon and when Sindran withdraws, a dull red glow in the form of a handprint can be seen where the half-orc pressed his hand.
Sindran nods. "Go."

while Arryn makes her move in round 1 and round 2, persumably swimming and getting rescued by Talon; let's keep the momentum going.
--- round 1 ---
1 dead sailor
arryn overboard, Talon going after her, with sanctuary
1 dead elemental
two tritons diving after their sleeping leader, thanks to cala.
battles going on on the east half of the ship
--- round 2 ---
One of the tritons aims his crossbow at Sindran, the other at Caladwhen. they don't fire. yet.
the draugr and elemental battle it out;
draugr2: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 2 = 26
draugr2 confirm: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 2 = 24
dmg: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
dmg: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
that elemental is gone in a cloud of water.
the sailors to the east:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
vs the elemental
bull rush dc 14: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
sailor atk of opp.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 oh well, I tried...!
IBKargeld Odenkirk |
"Get your filthy wet paws off my SHIP!"
atk: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
dmg: 1d12 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
and with one ginormous swing of the captain's greataxe, that's one more elemental dispatched. very much so.
only the elementals between the draugr and the sailors remain.
Oret Stonechild |
I finished one, Talon another, the Draugr another, and the captain another...that's 4, right? So, assuming that there aren't any left, and that the triton near Arryn is not one of the ones that went after the oracle...
Oret, seeing that the immediate threat of the elementals is gone, moves toward the edge of the boat nearest the triton and stands there, waiting for it to take some offensive action.
Oret is holding his action. If the NW triton approaches or fires its crossbow, it's going to get a shuriken to the face.
Attack (Flurry of Blows, Range): 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 - 2 = 16
Damage: 1d2 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Of course, if there are still elementals left (that aren't attacking the captain or sailors), Oret will go after them first.
Caladwhen |
Eying the Triton pointing a crossbow at her, Cala furrows her brow contemptuously.
"You will regret pointing that thing at me."
Dropping her hands to her side, she nods at the Triton feigning surrender.
Closing her eyes, Cala whispers one simple word "Nevae." Having uttered the word, her voices carries in the wind across the water towards the Triton, echoing loudly in an ethereal yet menacing manner.
Casting Blindness Fort DC 18 on the Triton. If he fails, that crossbow won't be much use to him. By the way, won't be able to post again until after work tomorrow.
Talon Dalkar |
Talon runs to the side of the boat, and without skipping a beat puts a foot up on the edge and launching himself off. As he gets near the water he flares his wings out to hover, then stabs his longsword deep into the boat to have something steady to hold on to. He reaches down to Arryn "I think I'm making a habit of this, you're quite the damsel in distress"
increddibelly |
Cala's seaworthy friend fires his crossbow the instant Cala closes her eyes.
"I will only regret not doing this earlier..."
ready action: crossbow shot: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
dmg: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Cala needs to make a concentration check vs DC 10 + 9 + 2, or lose her blindness spell:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 and the spell dissipates harmlessly into the cold night!
Oret's ready action causes the triton to get shruiken'ed, and some of the blood seeps into the water.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
the Triton Warrior near Talon also fires his crossbow, as soon as he sees that Talon needs his full concentration to get Arryn out.
ready action: crossbow shot: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
dmg: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Talon is damaged while flying, so needs to make a fly check vs DC10:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22...and he makes it look easy!
Nice work Talon, that could've been a lot uglier. Let's see - move to Arryn, grab hold of eachother and move back to the boat - I think it's fair to say that you both will be spending round 3 in a full round action to get back on board. You'll both get new actions in round 4.

good point! Please keep correcting me, everyone :)
Triton's will save vs. Sindran's Sanctuary on Talon DC16: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
That's what you get with fanatical believers...they're motivated!
I finished one, Talon another, the Draugr another, and the captain another...that's 4, right?
hmm, rereading our previous posts: Talon finished the one you almost killed, the captain killed the one who pushed Arryn off, the draugr killed one; this DOES leave one on the stern battling it out with the two sailors.
sailor: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 miss
sailor: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 hit
dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 miss
dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 hit
the elemental takes a hit and tries to push a sailor off
bull rush dc 14: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 fail
sailor attack of opportunity: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 miss again.

motivated by their boss' inspiring words (...) the sailors get up and fire their shortbows at the same triton that Oret already hit

atk: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
atk: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
but they're clearly more used to smuggling than swashbuckling.
Sindran Eithe |
"Why don't you lot try to actually aim!" Sindran roars at the sailors.
He whirls around when he hears Caladwhen get shot and rushes over to her, hand already glowing as he chants.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Oret Stonechild |
Oret should actually be on the NW corner of the lower deck, the square 3s from the triton
Oret's hands move quickly, drawing two more shuriken from his robes and launching them at the triton.
Attack (Flurry of Blows, Range): 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 - 2 = 11
Damage: 1d2 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Attack (Flurry of Blows, Range): 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 - 2 = 19
Damage: 1d2 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Caladwhen |
Bugger! Well, guess I deserve that for not taking Combat Casting, though even that wouldn't have made the difference here.
As bolt fired from the crossbow speeds towards her, Cala realizes her error and attempts to duck quickly. Though the bolt fails to fell her, it does graze her shoulder and cuts deep, the pain forcing her to lose concentration and cry out.
Falling to her knees, she grips her arm attempting to stem the flow of blood until Sindran heals the wound.
"Damn, he was quicker than I thought..." pausing a moment, she looks at the wound that is all but gone by the time Sindran is done "Thank-you Sindran."
Fluff post. Right about now I wish I had some Zombie Dolphins to sic on that son of a b!tch.
increddibelly |
I'll move Oret. - and I believe that's your round 3 action. Also, I've noticed the sailors on the stern have gone twice in round 2, so I'll skip them in round 3. phew. I guess I need to stop doing combat with so many actors at work.
-- round 2 synopsis
Talon moves towards Arryn, but gets hit;
Cala casts sleep, but gets a bolt as a rewards; Sindran cures Cala's injury.
Oret flings around shuriken like they're free, but with effect.
to the south, two tritons dive after their sleeping master.
--- round 3 ---
Oret kills Triton NW!
sailors + elemental on deck have acted.
talon + arryn are busy moving.
Aerent will throw another spear to provide cover for them. The dolphin dies.
the tritons to the south have reached their sleeping leader, and slap some sense into him. They'll be back for more next round.
By my count, only Cala, Sindran and Kargeld still have an action in round 3.
IBKargeld Odenkirk |
"I said, GEROFF!"
and he charges the last remaining elemental.
atk: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
dmg: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
The elemental breaks apart like a water balloon.
Now that the deck is clear, he shouts to the Triton (E)
"What's come into you, you ambitious fish! I'll give you ten seconds to get out of my sight before I set loose the harpoons on yer!"
increddibelly |
The eastern triton moves to the south side of the ship - but Odenkirk doesn't lose track of it, and follows it around.
Then, the triton speaks, defensively, as if explaining its actions: "Nerianus has spoken. he has forseen a great evil coming and we must stop it."
Talon Dalkar |
Perc1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Talon narrows his eyes, then says loudly but calmly "Shark, get out of the water" as he says this he hauls Arryn up to him, then flashes a smile "Hold on" He puts his feet on the boat, then launches himself off while ripping the sword out of the boat. With a loud grunt he flares his wings out and slowly brings them up. From all the effort on his newly healed wings Talon realizes he has no time for flare, and goes for the most graceful landing he can. He dives forward and falls on his back, cradling Arryn in his arms so he breaks her fall
Oret Stonechild |
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Oret watches the interaction with the captain and the triton with interest.
It's a shame more sailors weren't taken. The captain is going to take some effort to take out, and the fewer distractions we have, the better.
Talon Dalkar |
Arryn looks up at Talon as he lands.
Talon landed on his back with Arryn on top of him so he broke the fall. I figured its appropriate with my pitiful flying abilities right now (15ft, poor) it would make sense that an exertion such as this would probably put Talon down for a minute
Sindran Eithe |
"You're welcome," Sindran grunts before standing to follow Kargeld and the triton.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Sindran hears Talon's warning even as he listens to the triton.
"Five seconds," Sindran interrupts, counting down Kargeld's warning. "Four...."
Caladwhen |
Round 3 Action
Defensive Casting DC 17: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Standing up cautiously, Cala keeps her eyes trained on the Triton that wounded her. Anger tinging her voice, Cala recites the ancient elven incantation "Ehte`onta." With a sudden flick of her arm, Cala fires off two pale blue glowing missiles at the Triton.
Magic Missile: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9
increddibelly |
It's a shame more sailors weren't taken. The captain is going to take some effort to take out, and the fewer distractions we have, the better.
then again...who's going to drive the boat..?
Cala keeps her eyes trained on the Triton that wounded her.
It's sinking rapidly after Oret pelletted it with his small metal discs - or was it the other one? what the hell, they all look the same. In any case, the missile causes another Triton to suffer the ultimate consequences.
IBKargeld Odenkirk |
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
clearly enjoying this, the captain looks at Sindran, and winks at the incoming shark. He comfortably leans on the boat.
"3... 2... Did your all-knowning wisdom Nerryanus forsee..this?"
Instead of harpoons, the tritons are thrown out of the water by a huge torpedo-like shark. As it bites the Triton Oracle in half, Nerianus' last words are ominous: "The shining sun has seen the wickedness you hide in hearts. And thus it will be the son who brings your doom."
Kargeld just raises an eyebrow, and takes in the spectacle of two and a half tritons battling two and a half tons of shark.
When the feast is over, he stamps his axe on the deck, and calls out to his men. "RIGHT! What are you standing 'round for, waiting to grow a beard? Sun's up in an hour and I want to be moving before then! And clean that mess up!", heartlessly pointing at the drowned remains of one of his sailors.
Talon Dalkar |
Still on his back and breathing heavily, Talon makes a sound between a rasp and a chuckle I wonder if Kargeld will notice the new hole in his boat After a few minutes Talon's breathing slows and he gets up. He looks up at the sky, then decides he should give his wings a rest for the day. He looks around at the crew cleaning up, then heads belowdecks. He closes himself up in a room and can be heard faintly muttering, and sometimes flashes of light or odd sounds come from the room
increddibelly |
The next few days are relatively quiet.
The crew quickly realize that losing one means working a bit harder, but also a greater share of the profits at the end of the trip, and they keep the ship running smooth without complaints.
Once you're about a day(~50 miles) east-southeast of Cyremium, Kargeld folds his telescope, looks east, and starts to smile.
"Right lads, time to load up on fresh water. SET COURSE FOR SEAL ISLAND!"
Sindran Eithe |
Int: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
"If we need more fresh water, I can create some," Sindran says to Kargeld, offering his assistance.
IBKargeld Odenkirk |
"Listen, hotshot," Kargeld strengthens his argument by pushing his index finger into your chest with every line, "This is my boat! I’m the captain! I say we need water! So, we go and get it!"
Caladwhen |
Int DC 13: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Buried in her studies and not paying the least bit of attention to the Captain, Caladwhen doesn't question the detour. Only after the Captain starts arguing with Sindran does Caladwhen perk her head up.
Geography DC 18: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Having missed the first part of the conversation, Cala tunes in and shakes her head dismissively. Speaks plainly but without suspicion, Cala bluntly interjects "Wait, what? Seal Island? Why are we going there? That's at least a days journey out of the way, and last time I checked seal pelts weren't on the agenda."
IBKargeld Odenkirk |
Judging from the cowering crew, Odenkirk does not handle suggestions very well.
"NO!"
In an exaggerated, monotone voice, he snarls: " I'll use small words so you landlubbers can un-der-stand: We go east. We go to Seal Is-land. We catch many seal! We take seal, to ship. We bring sell far from here. We sell fur, to city folk.", his eyes start to shine, "Then, we rich...!!"
Talon Dalkar |
As the human treats them as if they're slow, Talon's temper quickly rises. His hand rests on the pommel of his new sword and he gets in the captains face "You listen to me Geshliedra, we are not taking a detour because of a humans pathetic greed. We will keep our course"
IBKargeld Odenkirk |
"Gesundheit. Anyways - It's my boat. You're just passengers. STOP GETTING IN THE WAY."
In the meantime, the helmsman steers the ship due east. Apparently the crew have done this before, and they seem to appreciate some additional profits.
Caladwhen |
Cala's perplexed look turns to cool malice, her brow furrowed. Standing up she looks moves beside Talon and looks the Captain directly in the eye, not the least intimidated by his bluster "Ah, profiteering then. Why then the deception Captain? Is it that you know very well that your instructions were to deliver us in all due haste?"
Looking off in the direction of Seal Island, Cala smirks while shaking her head "No, I don't think the Cardinal, your employer, would sanction this little adventure for profit."
IBKargeld Odenkirk |
"Pah - but he's not HERE, now, IS he?"
The greedy actually captain has the bravery to look smug!
"due east, helmsman; hold your course."
The crew do not like the rising tempers. Those on deck suddenly remember chores near the bow and stern of the deck, where they work fiercely, scrubbing the deck and repairing nets, pointedly ignoring the unpleasantness amidships. profit sounds like fun, but surviving sounds great...
Caladwhen |
Well... I could always try to Charm him if we want to settle this without violence, but he is tough and might resist. Then again, he's also likely a warrior type who typically have low Will saves.
Talon Dalkar |
Talon's mouth twitches as the captain says boy, then he put son a cruel smile "Oh I'm not so sure we do. I believe there is somebody else who can steer this rotting piece of s*#!. So either you can forget about your seals or you can swim with them"
Even though he seems to just be somebody using intimidation to get his way, the party members are familiar enough with Talon to tell he is quickly losing his temper. Being treated like a second rate from a human isn't going well
Sense Motive1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Oret Stonechild |
Sorry, catching up on the dice rolls...
Int: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Oret stands firm with the others. "We have been given a task, and a timeline, and we'll not deviate from either. If you want your pelts so badly, you may get them when you pass back this way. If you insist on this course of action, I'm confident that there's at least one amongst your crew that has the wherewithal to steer this vessel, and wouldn't mind inheriting it after its previous captain suffered...an accident."
IBKargeld Odenkirk |
finally, the concept that you disagree with him is taking root within the captain's brain.
"you....what?!"
he takes a few steps back*, and for a moment, he shakes his head in disbelief.
"MUTINY..? on MY ship...?!?"
the tension is tangible, as even the crew stobs scrubbing for a few seconds, to observe the ongoing...negotiations. For a moment, it can go either way...1d100 ⇒ 30
...And then the captain decides that a few hundred gold is not worth dying for.
"Fine! Damn you all to hell! If you're that much in a rush, let's get this over with. But you're going to pay me the 300 gold I promised my crew before the trip is over!" And he turns on his heel, in the foulest of moods, to mope near the stern. The crew, familiar with their captain's legendary humors, make haste to get out of Odenkirk's way.
"TAKE THESE PEASANTS NORTH-EAST, HELMSMAN - THE SOONER WE'RE RID OF THEM, THE BETTER!"
*I'm sure Aerent would respond by closing the gap, so there's no running start for the captain.
