Talon Dalkar |

That poor poor bastard
Talon locks eyes with the man responsible for all his pain in the past few months. He puts one foot on the table and launches at him, bringing the scimitar down with his full weight behind it. His swing brings the cold steel down through his left shoulder, resting right next to his heart. As the man splutters and coughs up blood, Talon smiles, then shifts his weight and rips out the weapon sideways, taking off his left arm as well as a good portion of his chest and displaying his heart in two seperate pieces
Lol how was that?

eeeeuuw. However, it was a max damage crit, so the story matches the numbers...
Once Talon stops hacking, you find that Blackerly has a masterwork longsword and a severely damaged chain mail. He also has some gold: 5d10 ⇒ (7, 2, 8, 4, 8) = 29, and a keyring containing keys to all doors in the fortress.
please decide between yourselves how you'd like to deal with Ron. To celebrate your release (for good behavior?), I've got a couple of big posts to do; this will probably have to wait until tonight I'm afraid. Also, this weekend I'll be mostly AFK - so I hope to leave you with something to worry about.

It feels good, hanging your legs over the battlements, savoring the early morning air. True, you are tired, but it's a good sort of tired. A feeling of accomplishment. The rewarding feeling of capable people standing up, and gaining the overwhelming victory over stupidity and incompetence they deserve.
But now, onward. You're expected in a little more than 2 days near the Old Moor road, and even though the maps you found throughout the fort will make navigating the nearby forest significantly easier, you still have a trek of nearly a full day through dense forest ahead of you.
After you gather the supplies you can carry, you try Blackerly's keys on the front gate. With a satisfiying crunch, the chain is released, and as the portcullis gathers speed, the sound of rattling chains echo through the early morning.
As you cross the bridge to the mainland, you feel optimistic. The chilly morning air feels good on your skin, and even if someone visits Branderscar tomorrow-nay, today-, you will be several hours away from here.
After about two hours of quite pre-dawn forest, you reach a junction. The map tells you that the easier path will be a detour to the north-west, taking about 8 hours, and will take you higher up the hills into somewhat less dense forest. However, the most direct route does not look inviting, but does head straight to the north, and it will allow you to reach the Old Moor Road early in the evening.
Which path do you take?

Caladwhen |

Looking towards the swamp for only a brief moment, Cala quickly looks away with mild revulsion. "I should think not, we've suffered enough indignity." Without another word, she picks up her things and begins heading towards the forest.
After a few strides, she looks over her shoulder "Well, we have a date with our mysterious benefactor; best be going then." The tone in her voice suggests Cala harbors little trust for their benefactor at this time.

Yeah, hills. Whose bright idea was that? After four hours, you are sweating from places you didn't know could sweat; you've been smacked in the face by more branches you care to count, and your knees ache at every step. The steep climbs and uneven ground make this an arduous, if beautiful trek.
Please roll either a DC 20 Survival (=you find the 'easiest' path) or Fortitude save(=you suck it up), your choice. If you don't succeed, you are fatigued.

Sindran Eithe |

Grumblejack, carry me! I'm sure you aren't fatigued.
Fortitude 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 (1d20 + Endurance) Yay!
Perception-without-a-hope 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Sindran continues on, having gone through more difficult trials. In fact, it quite reminds him of how his master got him to hike a mountain to gather herbs he could have gotten in a nearby field. Four times in the same day. Good times.

![]() |

The tiresome climb causes Talon's injury to act up, and he slows down from physical exertion.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24, confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Then, in a second, he becomes completely covered by a thick, sticky substance, which slows him down even further.
from the east, you hear a weak, scrapy voice:
"caw...care...careful"

Sindran Eithe |

Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Sindran bends down to take another herb and add it to the growing collection in his basket when he sees the large spider spit a web in their direction.
Standing up, cautious of any webs, he hears a voice say to be careful and wonders if they're alive enough to salvage. "Spider here." he informs his group though no doubt they already know, seeing Talon trapped in a web. "Might be more."

Caladwhen |

Survival: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Exhausted by the trek, Caladwhen is clearly ailing physically but does her best to hide the fact. Wiping the sweat from her brow, she ponders "My word, how did they ever get supplies to the prison?"
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Catching site of the spider, Cala nods to confirm Sindran's warning "Yes, I see it Sindran. We may have to fight, we can't run since Talon is ensnared." Looking over to the powerfully built warrior, she quickly inquires "Are you alright Talon? Can you free yourself?"

Aerent Sephim |

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Seeing the giant spider, Aerent readies his shield and trident while taking several steps away from the rest of the group.
Moving 15-20 feet away from everyone else, as much as possible.

Talon Dalkar |

Escape Artist1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Perc1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Getting more and more irratated by a climb that should have been easy with his wings, Talon hisses in anger as the web catches him. Remembering it's easier to slip out than break out, he takes a moment to peel the web off on one side and exit
"#*@% this, where's that spider at?" Talon says, looking around with scimitar drawn

Arryn Lerash |

A little late, sorry
fort: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
survival: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10
"woo... I'm tired... do we really have to?" I complain as I withdraw my rapier, and move towards the spider.
initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Sindran Eithe |

"Not really," Sindran concedes to Arryn. "Seeing as Talon is free now, we should be able to get away. Though do you really want to run more? Being chased by a giant spider?
"Besides, Talon looks like he'll take care of it."
Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Knowledge (nature) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Sindran looks around, trying to see if there are more of the creatures and if they have any webs scattered about. He doesn't think he remembers anything about them. He looks up, just in case, before attempting to find that voice's owner.

ini: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
The spider stays well out of reach, in her maze of webs and trees, until she finds an opportunity to run out and eat the juicy black morsel we all know as Talon.
Atk talon, 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Dmg 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
If her bite pierces Talon's thick skin, he will need to try and resist her poisonous bite, fort dc 17
you can try and go into the forest to attack the giant black widow, but you can only move at half speed once you leave ethe path. if any of you approach her before she can attack talon, the spider will instead attack you and I will reroll the attack.

Aerent Sephim |

Aerent waits until the creature emerges from its location in the woods and webs, then charges with a shout.
Delay until it moves out, then charge it. If cannot charge, subtract 2 from attack roll below.
Attack, trident, charge, power attack: 1d20 + 6 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 3 - 1 = 20
Damage, trident: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 = 14

The giant spider nimbly dodges Arryn's half-hearted swipe, as she races towards her prey. Talon ia quick to free himself though, so he's not the easy target she was hoping for. As she -only just- manages to bite him, he feels the fire of her poison burn in the wound, but he tries his best to resist.
So focused on eating Talon is the spider, that she doesn't notice Aerents brutal attack until it's far too late to dodge. The green sludge that serves as her excuse for blood, flows freely from her abdomen.
Arryn 26 - attack, miss
Talon 22 - escape artist
Giant Black Widow 4 - eat Talon
Aerent 14, delayed to 3 - attack spider
Cala,
Sindran,
GrumbleJack

Caladwhen |

Sindran Eithe |

Sindran keeps back, careful not to touch the forest's edges in case there are any more of the spiders. He lets the others handle the large spider but stays cautious should it choose to attack him.
He's glancing away every few moments to search for other spiders.
Ready Action: Burning Hands if the spider looks like it tries to attack Sindran. Which I guess means if it tries to attack Caladwhen too since they're in the same general area. Otherwise, he's just going to hang out with Caladwhen and keep watch for any more of the beasties and maybe find the source of that voice.

Some 30 ft into the forest, you notice a web is moving. You stand ready, but then you realize it's not coming any closer.

Caladwhen |

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Nature Knowledge: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Realizing the movement in the forest is of no threat, Caladwhen returns her attention to the Giant Spider. The chaos of battle obscuring her shot, Cala ignores her crossbow and instead makes a quick verbal incantation. Drawing a glowing blue energy from seemingly nothing, Cala flicks her hand in the direction of the Giant Spider.
The energy quickly speeds from her hand and seems to duck and evade all obstacles to strike the Spider squarely in the abdomen, and seemingly disperses over it's entire body.
Oh what the hell, casting Magic Missile.
Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Talon still needs a fort save, and I think he'll want to get an attack in as well. We'll work those results in later, but I'll post the spider's action for rnd 3.
The sharp sting of Arryn's rapier, plus the blue flash bring great pain to the giant vermin. She hisses in pain, anger, or both.
In a fit of revenge, she bites Arryn, before retreating into the forest.
attack Arryn: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
dmg: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Ooh, fierce!
The poison burns, Arryn...you also need to make a dc17 fort save. Best of luck.
The spider slowly creeps 5ft backwards into the forest.

rnd1
spider - web Talon
rnd2
Talon - escape
Arryn - miss
Aerent - charge
Sin - look around
Cala - look around
spider - move at Talon, atk Talon
rnd3
Talon - miss
Arryn - hit
Aerent - miss
Cala - magic missile
spider - atk Arryn, move back FFS (Five Foot Step)
Sindran - ready action
The spider is looking seriously injured but very much alive. It seems to realize that this 'prey' may turn 'hunter', and it has no desire of becoming the huntee...
You're up!

Talon Dalkar |

Seeing the creature back off, Talon dramatically raises his hand and loudly begans chanting "Ebrithel oli manth trhacka!"
He casts arcane mark, marking the creature on the head and hopefully scaring it off as Talon follows up by marching towards it. If the creature retreats he lets it go
