Hmm, speaking of healing, weren't there discussions of improving the effectiveness of Infernal Healing as Albina gained more dice in channel? With 3d6 now I'd think that might be a good point to do so. Increasing the duration perhaps? Healing 3 hit points over two rounds maybe? Something like that VoV?

DM - Voice of the Voiceless |

The alternate use for channel negative for infernal healing has been tied to increasing in duration in the past, though increasing duration isn't too far out of left field.
How about a 3d6 channel becomes:
Fast Healing 1 for 2 minutes
or
Fast Healing 1.5 for 1 minutes
Which would make it either 20 in 2 minutes, or 15 in half the time.

Agh! Just worked out all my equipment, and forgot to copy it to notepad. Naturally, it's only when I do that the forum eats my work.
Oh, right - I've also been forgetting to ask how we're working out HP.

Sholano |

Yet another question, VoV.
I'd like Sholano to have a Prisoner's Dungeon Ring, just as a flavor piece, from a previous incarceration. Thing is, it can only ever be a bad thing, so I really don't want to throw character wealth at it. I just like the idea of him still wearing it, partially because he can't get it off, and partially out of arrogance. In my mind, he wouldn't know precisely what it did - he probably just thinks it was meant to mark him, or he would've tried waaay harder to get rid of it. If you felt like it, you could even have a manhunter from elsewhere after him at some point, with the Jailer's Ring. Anyway, I just thought it was a cool idea, easily dropped if you're not into it.

Sholano |

The dice, they do not like me sometimes. Average it is.
For instance, I was about to get Sholano a Bladed Belt and enchant it up to a +1 weapon, solely because I like the thought of Sholano not having any open weaponry. But that's an extra 2000 gp, which is a fifth of the working wealth... too much. It always makes me sad when style has to cave for the sake of practicality.
Like the spoiler said, this was pointless rambling. But I felt my frustration should be recorded somewhere.

Cruxcarr Felmongere |

Chronicle of the Righteous has given me some tasty options to assault you guys with too :)
Ouch. When I was reading it I totally was in "ohhhh I could play that.. and that... and..." - forgot about the possibility of those options turning into protagonists... :S

Sholano |

Sholano - Prisoner's Dungeon Ring is fine by me... just be wary that some might recognize it and take umbrage ;) though your new fancy hat should help with that.
Awesome. Although, if you're referring to the Hat of Disguise, I actually ditched it. ;) I decided that Sholano is actually too dependent on disguises for his day-to-day to depend on such a thing. He's damn good at them, too - so much so that I think he's probably a little disfainful of people who resort to magic for such things. He does cheat a little, though - the Sleeves of Many Garments let him switch up his outfit at the drop of a hat, which is probably very good for getting lost in a crowd.
In point of fact, now that the list of my equipment is more or less ready to go: For anyone interested, here's the reasoning behind all the weird junk that Sholano is currently carrying around (I spent about 1200 gold on mundane crap. What'd you do today? =P)
The +1 Rapier, +1 Chain shirt, and the Belt of Tumbling all speak for themselves. Sometimes, despite your best efforts, violence happens to you, and you had best be ready for it.
The Boots of the Cat are just fun. I figure at some point in Sholano's career, rooftop escapes have had to occur, and these are one of the best tricks in the book for getting out of that situation cheaply and easily. Just spend a while climbing high things, and once they've chased you, jump down and wave from the bottom. Later, suckers.
Muleback cords Became necessary when Sholano realized that his shiny new chain shirt weighed too much and was slowing him down. There was no way he was ditching the armor, so he found in a more creative solution, in the form of the first person he found who owned these. Leaving town was made much faster by the acquisition.
The Sleeves of Many Garments, as I noted above, are extremely useful for very quick disguises. They're no long term solution, as they don't change your close-up profile at all, but in a pinch, it makes for a quick, easy visual change. If he ever comes across a Quick Change Cloak, though, these things are probably going the way of the dodo.
And of course, the Handy Haversack. "Where else would I keep my ladder?" Not to mention the fifty-odd pounds of assorted gear and gewgaws he feels are necessary to keep around. This bag is Sholano's baby. Never leaves home without it. Speaking of which, I'm gonna have to get a bag of holding soon too. This thing is getting full.
I spent far too long putting all that together. So much random junk, and I think I'm still not done. I've got the basics left to go - pots, pans, ten foot pole, etc. On that note, I've still got about 1200 gp sitting around, if anyone has suggestions. If nobody speaks up, I'm probably just burning it on one-use magic stuff, maybe a wand.
EDIT: I'm dumb, shiny new hat = given to us in game. Hadn't spotted that yet. Right - neat.

Sholano |

Quick question; Sholano probably asked if there was a code word, or message, or something, that would identify the newcomers. Is there one, or are they just expected to walk in and take charge?

Sholano |

Whew. Lightning adjustment done after getting my greeting ninja'd by Jethryk. =) Caught it in time, though, so that works. Got to use my whole post and be minorly annoying to someone right off the bat! Whee!

Sholano |

Yeah, I thought the earring was cool. That's totally the form the disguise circlet is currently taking, by the by.
Oh, and a note - Sholano appears human, at the moment, unless you're examining him super closely. Sorry I didn't make that clear. A sigh, now, for being unable to edit posts.

Sholano |

VoV - This seemed like the best way to get all this out of the way and keep everybody up to speed on Sholano's deal: Made sense to me that the Baron would've made some sort of believable threat to keep Sholano in line, 'cause otherwise, he'd probably end up trying to lead basically everybody on his own little trip, or else just taking off entirely.
If that doesn't work, well, then we can just say Sholano's making it up for his own reasons and ignore the little inner monologue. But it seemed like a good way to handle it.

Wee heads up tae y'all - moving hus here in Bonnie Skozland , so will likely be busy next day or so. If necessary move things along and Cruxcarr will slot in when normal service resumes. I will be at work but am on courses so posting chances will be slim as leftovers at Sawney Beans supper.

Cruxcarr Felmongere |

Another wee heads up gang - on Tuesday I'll be heading off to Italia for a wedding - will be gone for 5 days (back next Sunday) so likely tomorrow will be my last posting for perhaps a week.
DMVoV - please DMPC Cruxcarr as necessary, If I get the opporchanity to post I will but don't be looking for me lol.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

No worries. I suppose offspring must take precedent over managing imaginary villains.

DM - Voice of the Voiceless |

Firstly - post will be incoming whence childer goes slumbering.
Second - advanced warning that your DM will be on vacation starting 27th June all the way through to 17th July. We will be taking our first big ol' vacation in six years and swanning off to Hawaii (both Kauai and Oahu). Our first trip to the US, and despite needing about 16 hours in a plane to get there - we are still super excited :)
However since we'll be travelling with only an i-pad for computer support it will be wholly untenable to keep DM-ing for you during that time. So the thread shall go on a short hibernation while I'm off sinking deep into Kalua pig, malasadas and loco moco. Fear not for I shall return fully recharged and reinforced for the onward push towards a lonely spire and the horrors that dwell within.
I'm expecting that I'll get you to the horn... or nearby and leave you with a nice cliffhanger to chew on while I'm off in the distance.

Sholano |

Enjoy Hawaii, sir. Not my favorite place in the world (lived there for a while, don't recommend it), but it's a great place to vacation.

DM - Voice of the Voiceless |

Your slightly benevolent overlord has now returned. Oahu and Kauai were indeed most excellent and nascent plans are in place for spending of accrued long service leave time on Kauai. 16 hours in a plane yesterday and 6 hours time difference to acclimatise to will make recovery relatively slow - most likely won't have an in-game post up till tonight as I work through the mass of threads and get things straight again.
But you can officially consider me back in the saddle and back in the game :)

Sholano |

Oh, Sholano and Shendalyn are totally not going to get along very well. That should be hilarious.
Also, on a rules-y note, that'd be Sholano five-foot stepping backward and taking a total defense action.

Eh, this sort of poor impulse control / short-sightedness is why evil can't have nice things (and generally loses). :) (Witness all the movies where formerly competent bad-guys turn on each other at the end, like Reservoir Dogs.)
I've been in Vampire games, where the mindset is very different (characters maximizing their gains from encounters, instead of seeing every encounter as a chance to flex), but the D&D mindset has never been about using skills (like Bluff or Diplomacy) or intrigue or wits to resolve an encounter, which is why Charisma is so often a dump stat for anyone who doesn't use it to set their spell DCs.
From an 'evil' standpoint, it would have been *hilarious* if we'd managed to Bluff the treant so thoroughly that he attacked any good party that arrived to try and protect the Horn from us wicked folk, since nothing says 'evil win!' like a good-on-good bloodbath, but we'll have to settle for the unsubtle bull-in-china-shop approach for now.

DM - Voice of the Voiceless |

The 'hilarious' outcome you stated would have been partially achievable with some good maneuvering, or even getting it's help to clear out the *redacted* before offing him.
I'll have the opening round up when I get home and get map-enabled.
As an aside - I don't think I've ever built a PF character with less than 10 Charisma, and I generally try for at least 12-14... but then again I like talking :)

Sholano |

Vov - Oh, Sholano's perfectly content to watch the violent people do their thing, then step in when the dust settles. He hasn't yet got a bead on just how much the Cardinal is on to him, and he doesn't want to push the envelope by getting the others killed - yet, anyway.
This is also a great excuse for me to not backstab people who get on Sholano's nerves, and thus end up slowing down/disturbing the game.
And Set; Yeah, that's exactly what I was headed for, once we could tell we'd earned the thing's trust.

Sholano |

Don't get me wrong - I'm definitely not complaining about the choice. Totally valid character decision. I'm just noting that this is the sort of thing that will make my character considerably irritated. Me, I like party conflict, at least when it doesn't lead to game-split/unwarranted PvP.

Mi'Dre |

Considering we're planning to make this our base of operations for an extended period of time, shouldn't we try and get rid of the big good-aligned guardian before we go exploring the abandoned pit of (a different kind of) evil that doesn't get along with devils and diabolists?Having a clear path to retreat sounds like a good idea to me.
Plus, if we leave him there's nothing to stop him raising the alarm and getting us swarmed with goody two-shoes soldiers that can actually fit into the horn.
