Dhice sizes up the demon as best he can, watching the way it moves, looking at its armor, and even flinging some mid-sized stones at it to see where it flinches and where it ignores the missiles (not really doing damage here, just using my Trickle move to do something mundane without needing a roll)

Dhice moves quickly. He has to dodge the demon's movements as it shifts and repositions itself - such is its size and bulk that it's causing more walls around the slimy sewer to collapse just from its disturbing presence. As he heaves Grigor's arm free, and the two men move quickly to rescue Archepex and Emma, the wall on the opposite side of the sewer tunnel forms an avalanche of masonry and stone that blocks off the flow of the sewer's river. There is now an inclined plane made of rubble that leads up to the street level.

Looking up, you see the demon is moving to lift his feet free of the river in the sewer, trying to lift himself up and out, and move into the greater Tollerhelm region. It's shouting now in Demonic:

"I̡̪̦͉̯̺̺ ̺͔͔̝͈̱̀̕͢Ḁ̧M̛̜̼̫͉̦͔̭͘ ̴̨̠̞͜F̡͓̞̰͉̟̻R̡̩̲͢Ḙ͓̞͉̹͔E͈̯̼̼̭!̟̰̬͚

The voice rumbles the very ground beneath your feet with how loud the massive Pit Lord's voice is being projected. The entire city of Tollerhelm would be able to hear it.

Emma charges the massive demon heedless of her personal safety. Just as the demon has climbed one foot out of the sewer water and is lifting up the other one to step out, the antipaladin jumps, and lands on the second foot. The armored woman hangs on tightly and is carried out of the sewer when the demon raises his foot out.

Dhice, you're casting about yourself for rocks to throw at the demon to see how it reacts when you hear Lyntel asking about the status of the old man. When looking around, you see that the destruction of the sewer has cast the old man's unconscious body in the river. He's caught on the broken gate that formerly blocked the walkway, but he's only hanging on by a thin thread of fabric from his rags. He'll be washed away any moment, sure to drown. You see no sign of the Mirror of Erised either - or Wicks. What do you do?

Lyntel: You have a coin that you can use basically as a cell phone to interact with other enchanted coins; the only other coin that you're aware of is the one that Wicks owns.

Archepex, you throw bits of rubble aside fruitlessly as you hear the ongoing Demonic voice booming in the skies above you. You're about to give up hope when you hear Mule crying out nearby. Glancing in his direction, you see the cloth that was used to wrap the Mirror of Erised. Touching it, you can feel that the mirror is still there, beneath the cloth.

Grigor grabs hold of the old man and lifts him up easily. Normally this action would require a check, but because the old man is so emaciated and light, he's easy to pick up. The musclebound fighter doesn't have much problem carrying him to relative safety. He can hear, however, that the ooze goblins from before haven't fully retreated...in the shadows of the deeper sewer tunnels, he can hear their voices muttering to each other.

Once she's lifted out of the sewers, Emma can see that the demon is wreaking havoc on the ruins of Tollerhelm. He's making his way in the direction of the city of Saint Agnes, on the distant horizon, and dragging the anti-paladin along for the ride.

She swings her sword at the demon's scaly hide, chipping off some of his armor and burying the blade deep in the demon's flesh beneath. A solid hit! However, the massive Pit Lord has noticed you now. Looking down at you, he smirks an evil smile, and kneels...flicking you with his finger. Your sword is stuck in the demon's foot, and you're sent flying 20 feet off, your armored body being slammed through the stone wall of a nearby building. You crash through it, sustaining 1d12+6 damage. There's rubble all around you, and the building - ravaged by fire when the Skaven invaded this town - is in danger of collapsing down on top of you. He ends his black speech in Demonic with a roar, and propels his massive demon body through the air by pushing off with his feet. The demon leaps at you, his terrible claws outstretched and his laughter echoing off of the empty buildings of the city of Tollerhelm.

Landing on his belly before the entrance of the ruins he flicked you into, the demon reaches inside through the hole in the wall and his hands seek to pick you up, Emma. He presses his head to the side of the building, listening closely as his hand reaches out to grab you. The building groans and rubble falls off of it as he presses his heavy weight against its walls.

Archepex sees the demon dive and shouts at Grigor, Keep it There!
He sprints for a half collapsed building the demon just barely missed in his dive. He shoulders his way in and bounds up to the second story, then to the roof. There he removes his cloak and takes the gravity-reversing clasp in his left hand. He draws his sword and breathes for a moment. Yes, I am about to implant a gravity altering magical device into a demon's back. he thinks with a small smile.
Then he jumps...

Dhice should be somehow endangered by that last Aid Another move, so I'm going to assume that the Demon's leap has sent rubble flying his way. Seems reasonable. Mooshy, let me know if I'm overstepping here.

The demon slams into the ground causing the walls around Dhice to rumble and shake, with debris flying everywhere. He instinctively uses his innate power to throw up a shield that is strengthened with his own life energy. Defy Danger CON: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 2) + 3 = 11 The incoming rocks are sloughed aside and the gangly channeler emerges unscathed, only to notice Archepex making his great leap onto the demon.

Despite the creeping horror that invades his mind as the Demon's true might sinks in, Dhice falls into his support role almost without thinking. The ranger's jump is well timed but not perfect, so Dhice captures a fist-sized rock that's crumbling off a wall next to Archepex and moves into into a perfect hand-hold position to help the Ranger mount the demon cleanly. Aid Another: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 5) + 2 = 10 With the rock in place, Archepex gets into excellent position atop the towering monstrosity.

Somehow I didn't clue in that Lyntel had already done the aid. Oh well, everyone's pitching in on this one Archepex!

I had actually intended to surprise you with new danger that would complicate the actions you tried to do, Dhice, but I'm willing to roll with what you wrote since you rolled well. Also I should have mentioned in my action post that that's how I was planning on interpreting your 7-9 roll, my bad. I was just trying to update rapidly this morning because I felt badly for not updating yesterday.

That wasn't an aid roll... It was a buff so the next aid roll would give you +2 to your roll instead of +1. But speaking of aid rolls...

Lyntel's song grows louder until it's volume challenges the Pit Lord's thundering bellows. As Archepex charges up the stairs he hears a new verse, a verse about a legendary elven warrior flipping over a rat ogre to stab it in the neck. Archepex can't help but smile and his step lightens.

Was that rock there before? No. He was pretty sure it wasn't. Also, that tingle in the back of his neck. Lyntel and her magic. He smiles more genuinely. His teammates are it again.

Emma ducks further back into the building, yelling obscenities and maybe a few accidental words of power at the demon that she didn't know she knew Just an extension to IATL, not a roll.

She backs up as far as she can into the building, then charges forward, trying to grab her sword and yank it out, preferably sideways through the demons foot.

With incredible agility, the elven ranger leaps off the broken rubble and construction materials that litter the broken streets where the Demon emerged. The Pit Lord's body is giving off enough heat to make it painful and difficult to grab an easy handhold, but the elven ranger is assisted just in time with some clever rock-bending by the Channeler.

The demon is shouldering its way into the ruined building even as Archepex makes his way up the demon's back, approaching the back of its neck. Rubble and stones from the masonry are falling all around him and threatening to knock him off, but he holds on still.

Meanwhile, while the elf is attempting his desperate gambit, Emma is trying something equally reckless. As she charges empty-handed at the pit lord, the demon notices her presence and opens his jaws wide. A white light forms within the demon's mouth and begins to glow rapidly!

You reach your sword unharmed and grasp the hilt, just as the demon unleashes a devastating burst of energy from its mouth at you. You can either roll again to follow through on your attack and damn the consequences, or you can try to find cover from his breath attack. What do you do?

Down in the sewers comes the sound of pained screaming and cries for help. It's Wicks! From the sound of things, the halfling is struggling for his life against the ooze goblins that were preparing to attack you from before!

Archepex's gambit is desperate, but the elf ranger's reflexes allow him to accomplish what would be impossible to most. While Emma dances nimbly from one side of the building's interior to the other, dodging the pit lord's blasting breath of light that destroys the ruined walls around her, the elf carves out a chunk of the demon's back and slips his magical trinket inside. The holy magic burns the demon, causing it to roar in rage and pain, but the wound closes.

Suddenly, miraculously, you can see the anti-gravity magic begin to take effect. The demon's head butts against the ceiling of the ruin he's shoved himself partway into. "Eh?" he cries, interrupting his breath attack, his voice no longer malevolent and world-ending draconic, but a simple exclamation of surprise. His lower end is also elevating into the air; slowly, but surely.

Meanwhile, Grigor races over to the hole in the street where the sewer can be seen below. With the fog obscuring everything, he can't see the goblins very well, but he can see Lyntel the elf charging through the fog and bravely grabbing hold of Wicks the halfling.

Just then, Dhice's magic steps in, scattering the onrushing horde of slime-goblins with his exploding stalactite and then blocking off the tunnel nearly completely. You see ooze beginning to form at the cracks between the rocks! Dhice has slowed them down but not obstructed them completely. A trio of goblins re-form on the other side of the environmental hazard, on your side of the sewer walkway, and draw weapons made of hardened ooze! They're advancing on Lyntel and Wicks and they'll have them stabbed in a heartbeat if you don't do something, what do you do?

Did Emma end up getting her sword back?

What a damage roll!

Emma clutches at her sword as the demon's body continues to slowly lift up into the air. The demon is starting to kick and flail, shouting in dismay in a voice that causes nearby buildings to shudder and crumble. With a mighty heave, she pulls the sword free of the demon's foot, bringing with it a torrent of black, demonic blood that threatens to splash all over you. What do you do?

The demon has destroyed the upper portion of the ruined house, the part that formerly was the building's second floor. He's still rising, but he grabs hold of a nearby church steeple and crushes it partially as he holds on tightly. He's regaining control of his movement!

Meanwhile, Grigor is valiantly coming to the halfling and elf's defense, putting himself in the path of the onrushing goblins. Like a legendary sentinel of tales, the fighter whirls his broadsword around with speed that belies his true strength, decapitating a slime-goblin and sending its head spinning into the wall across the river, splattering across it and deforming into ooze.

Again and again he swings, killing two more goblins, but the reckless fighter is willingly leaving holes in his defenses to fight more aggressively, and the goblins are willing to take advantage. Leaping on his body heedless of their own safety, the goblins continue to ooze through the barrier at a reduced rate, and dog-pile the fighter. When they grab hold, their bodies begin to lose their form, flowing together to become a single ooze that threatens to drag Grigor off the walkway and into the river! They mean to drown the human in the waters! What do you do?

Dhice's instinct is to aid Grigor, a long time companion and friend. But Archepex has emerged as a leader in Dhice's eyes, so despite his basic impulse he turns away from Grigor and focuses on the Demon that the ranger just shot in the wrist.

With all of his concentration, the gangly young man reaches out to the stones forming the church steeple. Bender: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 6) + 3 = 13 He extracts a large stone from the steeple just below where the demon is gripping it, trying to weaken the structure. Knowing that the demon would be too tough to be affected by hurling the rock, Dhice instead pulls it towards himself and then hurls it down at the goblins trying to swarm Grigor. "Two birds with one stone, so to speak" he murmurs to himself. The rock slams into a goblin causing damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5 and knocking the goblin backwards with the force of it.

spent 3 hold: move a rock, do d6 damage to something, make it forceful.

...All while screaming "A little help, here!!!"

"What? Argh! No!" the flailing demon's hand is pierced clean by Archepex's hail of arrows. The demon retaliates with a glowing blast of energy fired from his mouth, swiping clean across the whole block - but since Archepex faded from view, the beam was wild and unfocused, and the elf ranger nimbly sidesteps it.

The steeple he was clutching is suddenly ripped aside by Dhice's magic. The channeler has his feet firmly planted as he rotates his upper body like the fulcrum of a lever, moving the enormous block of church and hurling it into the sewers.

The former hazardous terrain the channeler had created was hard enough for the goblins to ooze through. Now, the church steeple is slammed into the hole, and it seems to plug it for good, crushing more than one ooze-goblin in the process!

Unfortunately, as this is happening, Grigor the reckless has been yanked into the river's flow. The mass of goblins have merged together completely now, their giggling goblin faces smeared across the ooze-thing's slimy surface. It pushes the fighter's head underwater and holds it there as the human struggles in vain to get a good angle with his sword. He pierces its rubbery skin but it's just not enough to stop the heavy ooze from attempting to drown him.

Lyntel yells at Wicks. Run that way, and don't stop until we call you!

She turns back to the scene of devastation. Can't do much for Grigor ... but maybe.

She focuses on the remnants of the building that the Pit Lord is clawing at to get a handhold. She closes her eyes and mutters under her breath, reaching a hand out towards the building.

Cause Fear: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 6) + 2 = 12

The Pit Lord's eyes widen as he sees the building glow with a strong divine light. He knows that this light means unbelievable pain upon touch, and hesitates to grab hold.

Cause Fear: Choose a target you can see and a nearby object. The target is afraid of the object so long as you maintain the spell. Their reaction is up to them: flee, panic, beg, fight. While this spell is ongoing you take -1 to cast a spell. You cannot target entities with less than animal intelligence (magical constructs, undead, automatons, and the like.)

Struggling and straining against the slimy ooze with all his might, having to hold his breath the whole time, takes nearly all of Grigor's effort. He struggles and strains, eventually breaking the surface of the water with his head and gasping desperately for air. He's free of the ooze, and now that the ooze sees this it's starting to divide up again. The laughing goblin faces on the ooze's skin begin to smear and separate as the ooze begins to divide into a gaggle of goblins. Meanwhile, the river's current is still carrying you away from the ooze and your friends, deeper into the dark sewers of Tollerhelm.

You can try to escape by grabbing the walkway's edge and heaving yourself straight upward, which won't be easy (-1 circumstance on your roll) - or, you can wait for the current to carry you further down the sewers until you find a ladder or something to help you out. You have a few moments before the ooze is sufficiently separated to attack you. What do you do?

Lyntel's desperate gambit works, and her arcane trickery confuses the strong-willed but simple mind of the Pit Lord. Roaring in fury, the demon rears back to kick at the church with his heavily clawed foot, destroying much of the church in a single blow and sending rubble flying across the entire town. However, the Pit Lord didn't count on the effects of such centrifugal momentum when he's becoming magically weightless.

To the enormous demon's surprise, the kick sends the demon rotating on his horizontal axis! The kick, in other words, just keeps going and going and going...causing the demon to go ass over ankles into the sky! This embarrassing position enrages the demon further, and it begins to indiscriminately blast the area below with its mouth-beams, scattering demonic energy all across the town of Tollerhelm - when the Pit Lord isn't facing harmlessly upward into the sky. A rotating ball of death slowly rises into the sky over the town, what do you do?

Wicks, meanwhile, is heading back for the sewers, making for Grigor as the fighter slowly floats downstream.

Again Dhice's instinct is to help his friends, but a direct request from Archepex is starting to feel like an order to Dhice. He turns to the Demon and squints hard for a moment, switching his conduit back over to Air from Earth. "OK pal, time to meet the sky." With every ounce of energy he can muster, the Channeler tries to blow the Demon straight up to accelerate him. Air Bender: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 3) + 3 = 12 He creates a great gust of wind that he strengthens until it's forceful enough to move the demon.

It takes a few moments for the wind to strengthen to the needed force, however, and Dhice finds himself amidst the demon's beam range. He carefully analyzes the demon's rotation to predict where the blasts will strike and tries to position himself safely: Defy Danger INT: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 3) + 1 = 6. He badly misjudges an incoming blast!

I gained 3 hold. I spend one to move the air, 1 to make it forceful. I'll hold one more as long as I maintain my concentration and do nothing else significant. Also, I interpreted the demon's weapon as being dangerous to everyone on the surface, hence the DD roll there.

Aid Dhice: 2d6 + 0 ⇒ (4, 3) + 0 = 7

You interpreted the demon's weapon correctly Dhice.

Down in the sewers, the halfling Wicks is walking along the walkway in the partially-collapsed sewers, trying to keep up with Grigor as he floats downstream. The fighter tries valiantly to heave himself up to the platform, but even with the human's prodigious strength, his armor and the drag of the waters rushing past him is too much. He slips down into the water again, flowing downstream. Behind him, the ooze-goblins vault out of the water easily, somersaulting onto the walkway with inhuman agility and grasping the weapons that they make out of hardened pieces of their own bodies. Grinning with their too-wide mouths they rush off in pursuit of Wicks down the tunnel. With a shout, Wicks waves his small sword in front of him warningly, keeping the rush of goblins back for the moment.

That's when Lyntel attempts to toss Grigor a lifeline, falling short of him in the current due to a breeze floating down the tunnel. Archepex arrives and tosses the land's-end to Wicks, before jumping into the river after Grigor. Wicks curses and grabs the rope with one hand, even as an ooze-goblin sticks him in the side with a spear. Wicks roars in anger and whirls around, driving the goblin back, with blood dripping down over his leggings.

"Whatever you're doing, hurry UP!" he shouts at Archepex and Grigor as he holds his sword defensively in one hand.

Up on the streets above, Dhice begins to conjure up the elements of the wind. His success is such that he affects the local air pressure around the town. The pressure drops like a stone, causing acute headaches for everyone who is sensitive to that kind of thing. A sudden storm blows up out of nowhere in reaction to Dhice's powerful magic. Winds begin to buffet at the demon's body, while he continues to try and regain his balance. He's fully airborne now, and raining down death from above.

One death-beam begins to tear up the street near to Dhice as he's channeling his spell. Emma sees this.

Earlier, when she withdrew her sword, Emma didn't bother getting out of the way of the ensuing splash of demon blood. It covers her face and hair completely, the black fluid seeping down her skin and over her clothes, even getting in her mouth. The taste is beyond foul when it touches your tongue, Emma, yet...somehow intoxicating.

The antipaladin strides over to Dhice and raises her shield. Her shield arm seems to warp and twist slightly under the skin. Like in the beginning of this gif.

The demon energy washes over both of you. The majority of the impact is absorbed by the shield, which has all of its markings and paint on it blistered off. The heat feels like you're inside a sun lamp. When the beam passes on, Dhice, you feel as if you're sunburned all over from the radiant energy of the beam. Take 1d8 damage.

Emma, you felt nothing. You take no damage. Where the beam touched you, it merely singed your clothing.
