Mira Wulff |
Ah, curious, could have sworn the Circlet was a Headband, too, but you are quite right.
In that case, yeah, I am interested, but there's a good chance I'll pick up Glibness this level, so it may be overkill anyway :)
(But eventually, will want to pick one up, as well)
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
Dro'gan likes the odd magic items.
OK, my 1st pick list...feel free to disagree!
Scroll of Animate Object
Scroll of Deep Slumber
Oil of Shrink Item
Star of Cassomir (as a gift for the Swan to cement the group's friendship)
MW Rapier
30x MW Crossbow Bolts
Book (of crude, salacious drawings) - Don't ask why!
Jistkan timepiece (Is this a pocketwatch or similar?)
Spectacles of Understanding
You guys can fight over the headbands and crowns. I will buy or wait for something better down the line.
I may want to throw my hat into the ring for the magic boots too depending on what kind they are.
Mira Wulff |
Ah, yeah, I wanted to comment on the Star of Cassomir, too - fine with me if you want to gift it to her.
On one condition: Make it clear that that is not a personal gift, from you to her, but that the group as a whole wants her to have it.
You are perfectly welcome to romance her, not minding that, but if party funds are used lets avoid misunderstandings :D
Generally: I was the last to join and could cherry-pick my stuff, so I'm totally ok with leftovers or not getting anything this time around.
(just expressing interest in the circlet as something that was on my list, for later, but not attempting to claim that one)

Level Up Summary:
+7 HP(5(D8)+1(Con)+1(FCB)
+1 BaB
Spells Known:
Level 1: Telempathic Projection
Level 3: Glibness, Displacement
(Glibness will just be silly on top of everything, so I am compelled to pick it up. Displacement has decent combat utility and can just as well buff other party members, not depending on Mira to be frontlining.)
Spell Slots
+1 Level 3(=> 2 total with +1 from Cha)
Bold Stare: Disorientation(Penalty also applies to Attack Rolls)
Feat: Manifold Stare(+1 use of Painful Stare/Round)
Skills 6(Class)+2(Int) // +2(Background)
+1 Bluff
+1 Diplomacy
+1 Disguise
+1 Perception
+1 Sense Motive
+1 UMD
+1 Stealth
+1 Knowledge(Planes)
// Since she made a decent performance during the party, background goes to those two:
+1 Perform(Sing)
+1 Perform(String(Harp))
(I'll take a moment to review it tomorrow and/or get an ok, then will apply it to profile)
Amandine Santon |
I think the only magical item that Amandine really needs is the Headband of Vast Intelligence. The Circlet of Persuasion gives bonuses to CHA based skills rather than the skills directly. Amandine uses INT for the most commonly used CHA based checks so it would really only help her around the margins. It's better if someone else takes it.
The Spectacles are cool, but they're more of a boon to the party in general. As long as anyone has them to use we're better off if the need for them comes along. Amandine will take them, but if anyone else wants them instead that's fine with me.
I'm fine with giving the Star of Cassomir to the Night Swan.
Amandine can't use any of the arcane or divine scrolls without UMD, which she hasn't invested in, so they're of no use to her.
As for the belt and boots, it depends on what they turn out to be.
Amandine Santon |
Investigator Level 6:
BAB +1
FORT, REF, WILL +1
HP +8
Studied Strike: 2d6
Trap Sense +2
Inspiration +1
Panache +1
Phrenic Pool +1
Feat: Expanded Inspiration
+1 2nd Level Spell: Invisibility
Skills +11: +1 Acrobatics, Bluff, Diplomacy, Disable Device, Perception, Ride, Sense Motive, Spellcraft, Stealth, TBD, TBD.
Background Skill +2: +1 Sleight of Hand, Profession (Courtesan)
The INT Headband will have an associated skill in gives +level ranks in. Since it will probably be an INT skill, and that means it will probably be a knowledge skill, I'm going to hold 2 ranks open until I know where the headband ranks will go.
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
Unless ordered by Amandine to go back and loot more, I think we were finished then.
Someone else might need to Identify the boots and belt. My rolls might not be good enough.
Amandine Santon |
Nah, we can call it a day and be done.
Boots: Spellcraft: 1d20 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (10) + 11 + (4) = 25
Belt: Spellcraft: 1d20 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (12) + 11 + (4) = 27
I'll expend a couple of inspiration points to boost the checks.
Greenly Baerdóttir |
Hoping to level into Ulfen Guard 1 but I'd like to interface with the Princess if possible before I make the decision.
Will likely be taking Improved Sunder and Spell Sunder this level, might take the Ulfen Guard heavy armor prof dedication instead.
Meraki Hannan |
Sorry for being MIA, everyone, but I managed to get COVID (again). Feeling well enough now, so I'm trying to get caught up.
Meraki Hannan |
Was there anything that gave us an extra skill rank or a +1 bonus to something? I can't remember and I'm having to rebuild my character sheet from scratch.
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
The only special bonuses I can remember are the unique magic items we carry. Your mask, my crossbow, Mira's sword...
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |

Ectoplasmic Reach (Su) At 3rd level, you can exude small tendrils of ectoplasm that can be used to make melee touch attacks as part of a spell with a range of touch. You can make melee touch attacks as if you had an additional 5 feet of reach. You must have a free hand with which to direct the ectoplasm. This ability does not otherwise increase your threatened area. At 11th level, this additional reach increases to 10 feet. At 17th level, this additional reach increases to 15 feet.

"Amandine deduces that the shabby belt is enchanted to enhance its wearer's health. On the other hand, the boots are mundane footwear left over from an era when it was fashionable to enchant clothing with a magic aura spell to make it seem more extraordinary. Perhaps it might be worth a bit as a curio, but ultimately nothing more than an antique set of boots."
If the Belt is for Health then Greenly should get it. She's our one tough/melee specialist left. Anything we can use to keep her going should be used.
I will take the enchanted boots if its OK by everyone. Like I said, Dro'gan likes odd magical items. Maybe he can sell these 'fake' magical items for some money or help down the road. Either way, he will try them on first (assuming no one objects) just to make sure Amandine isn't missing something somehow.
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
Well...here it goes:
I have been diagnosed with a bad ticker. And they are in a hurry to get it fixed: Next Tuesday I will be getting open heart surgery and a Heart Bypass at my local VA. That means I will be in the hospital for at least a week of recovery and home resting after that for weeks. I will attempt to keep up with my games, at least by phone for now, but I cannot guarantee anything after next Monday yet. That's assuming I survive. They gave me a pretty low percentage of something going wrong, but with any surgery you never know...
I am still available between now and next Monday however. If you need anything from me for this game until then, just let me know.
Either way, please feel free to bot my character as needed after next Monday, and I hope to get back to all my PbP games (by phone at least) as soon as I can. Hopefully by...Christmas? We'll see I guess.
=)
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
Thanks Greenly. I do appreciate it, but truthfully I'm just trying not to think about it except when I have to.
Final 'keep' list requested:
*'Magic Aura' antique boots
*Scroll of Animate Object
*Scroll of Deep Slumber
*Oil of Shrink Item
**Star of Cassomir (as a gift for the Swan to cement the group's friendship - So far nobody has really objected!)
*MW Rapier
*30x MW Crossbow Bolts
*Book (of crude, salacious drawings) - Don't ask why!
*Jistkan timepiece (Still need to know: Is this sort-of a pocket-watch or similar?)
Spectacles of Understanding Amandine can have these if she wants them. I just assumed nobody would be that interested in them.
NOTE: My goal is to finish Dro'gan leveling ASAP.
Greenly Baerdóttir |
I'm assuming the Belt is one of Mighty Constitution, also assuming +2?
Amandine Santon |
Take care Dro'gan and wishes for a easy and speedy recovery! I'll be sending good vibes your way.
Amandine Santon |
I do wonder if maybe Vayelan's "watch the looting" warning covers the Star of Cassomir? It seems like a special item that might get noticed as missing maybe. Would there be something else the Swan could have instead and we turn over the Star to Martella to give to the Princess?
Amandine Santon |
I work in social services and this is our busiest time of the year due to the holidays and winter coming on. I've been slammed at work for the past few weeks and I doubt things will let up for another couple of weeks. Thank you all for bearing with me.
That said I'll do my very best to get leveled up and post in gameplay tomorrow.
Amandine Santon |
And one final thing that kinda runs counter to my post above, but in this case I just can't help myself, besides it won't matter since the game won't start until the end of December when I'll be out of the red zone at work.
There's a recruitment for Horror on the Orient Express using the Pulp Call of Cthulhu rules that isn't attracting attention except from me and maybe one or two others at best. Anyone here up for a Call of Cthulhu game? The Pulp rules make for sturdier characters and more action and perhaps heroics than the standard rules do.
I've been hoping for a Pulp CoC for long time, so I'm asking around to see if a couple more players can be found to make a quorum for it to run.
Mira Wulff |
As written elsewhere, best of luck, Jeremy.
As for the "watch the looting", I'm pretty sure we are good with the Star of Cassomir - it might be a special item but I think it's more of a "don't go ripping the paintings from the frames" kind of plundering we are disencouraged to perform.
As for the Cthulhu: My recent track record on posting frequency got really bad after 3 games basically shut down - I'd prefer for that to stabilize before I'm throwing my hat in the ring for a different system.(I did play CoC, but it's been a while and never got the casual system mastery going for it that I developed for Pathfinder)

Well okay. I hope so.

The deadline for character submissions is the end of December, and play won't start until 2024. If you're at all interested and want to consider it for a while, there's time.
If you played standard CoC, the Pulp rules make it a different game. It's far less investigate and hope you can find a place to hide when the bad things come, and more punch the Mythos in the face.
As a person who is particularly stupid when it comes to learning new sets of game rules, I didn't have much trouble with CoC. It's rules light compared to Pathfinder. It takes some adjusting at the beginning for sure, but after that the learning curve is rather flat. I've found that after doing something once in the game, it's easy to remember how to do it the second time and onward from there.
Amandine Santon |
Well, at least I have Amandine leveled up now. Still working on the denouement post.
Oh, one last detail about the level up I think. Headbands of Vast Intelligence are set to a particular knowledge skill gets 1 rank/level when it's worn. Do you know what the Knowledge skill for this one is Vayelan? I'm holding back 2 ranks and will decide where to put them after I know about the headband.
DM Vayelan |
Good luck, Dro'gan! You'll have all my best wishes!
.....
Regarding the Star of Cassomir, the AP book doesn't explicitly mention it among some of the specific items that shouldn't be looted.
I'll rule that you can take the jewel without frustrating Martella and Eutropia. I think the mystery birthed from the jewel's disappearance during this upheaval will become a popular folk tale.
.....
The belt is, indeed, a Belt of Mighty Constitution +2
.....
By ousting Count Lotheed and delivering justice to the other nobles who exploit their power, you have unlocked another triumph for your relics.
Thus, Dignity's Barb and the Envoy's Ring should have their first three tiers restored (one triumph from Book 1, two triumphs from Book 2).
Meanwhile, Koriana's Blade and the Subtle Mask have their first two tiers restored, thanks to the two triumphs achieved in this book.
.....
The book doesn't specify what Knowledge skill is paired with the headband. If it explicitly stated that it belonged to Count Lotheed, I would pair it with Knowledge (Arcana) given his penchant for magic. However, since it was just kept locked away in the library, it could have belonged to any past Lotheed or even a former member of the royal family.
Thus, I'll let whoever claims the headband choose which Knowledge skill it is paired with.
DM Vayelan |
Additionally, in regards to Mira's other questions, we can complete one or two persona phases during this downtime, if you guys would like.
Alternatively, since two of our players will soon be occupied with important matters, we can resolve their persona phases when they return. The other players can resolve their persona phases in the meantime.
I'll also make a gameplay post that addresses Mira's request for Eutropia, in addition to responding to Amandine's post.
Amandine Santon |
Amandine is taking the INT headband so I think I'll just leave the boosted skill up to a dice roll.
1d13 ⇒ 8
I excluded Craft so K Nature is 8th of 13 down the skill list. She has +1 in K Nature already so that adds +6.
I'll use those saved points for +1 K Arcana and +1 K Planes.
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
Jistkan timepiece <-- Still need to know: Is this sort-of a pocket-watch or similar?
DM Vayelan |
Jistkan timepiece <-- Still need to know: Is this sort-of a pocket-watch or similar?
Apart from valuing it at 1200gp and grouping it along with the other antiques on display in the library, the book doesn't provide any additional details on the timepiece's nature.
I interpreted it to be more akin to a grandfather clock.
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
Ugg. Oh well, we can add it to the stuff we sell then, but I have no idea how we took it with us.
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
Level Up Summary: (Finally)
+6 HP
+1 BaB+1 level 3 spell slot/day
+1 level 1 spell known: Touch of Gracelessness
+1 level 3 spell known: Mad Monkeysetc...
I missed this...My Charisma is 16 so I get 1 extra spells slot per day and a second spell known!
+2 level 3 spell slot/day
+1 level 1 spell known: Touch of Gracelessness
+1 level 3 spell known: Mad Monkeys, Cure Serious Wounds
Dignity's Barb (3rd Triumph per the Archives of Nethys)
**Third Triumph: Dignity’s Barb is (now) a +2 seeking darkwood light crossbow. The wielder can use its ability to roll twice to confirm a critical hit twice per day (though he can use it only once on a given critical threat). In addition, the wielder can attempt a lucky shot to foil a ranged attack. Once per day when a ranged weapon attack targets a creature within 30 feet of the wielder, the wielder can shoot Dignity’s Barb at the projectile as an immediate action. He rolls a ranged attack, and if the result exceeds the attacker’s roll, that attack is negated. This ability can be used only if Dignity’s Barb is loaded or if the wielder can use Rapid Reload or a similar ability.
GM Question: Are the Cloaks of Protection +2 supposed to be a Cloak of Resistance +2? Or are they acting like Rings of Protection +2? Or something else?
That's it! Dro'gan is 7th level and I think ready to Go!
I don't know what the finally tally of selling the remainder of the items we got, but there are some minor magics Dro'gan will want to pick up before their journey to the city.
(Mainly replacing his Feather Token(bird) he used a long time back, and possibly buying some unique ammunition (magical, alchemical, or otherwise) for Dignity's Barb. Something that goes 'BOOM' would be nice.
FINALLY: That's it! I'm off to bed and a 6am call at the VA. Wish me luck and I will see you all on the other side hopefully. Please bot my character as needed until I can post again later this week at some point. Everybody have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Mira Wulff |
White and Green already functional.
Koriana's Blade, Black, Red, Pink: 1d3 ⇒ 1
So, +3 Defending Longsword, and the black gem(negative energy) is operational now.
(Also, again, here's best of luck to Dro'gan)
Meraki Hannan |
Sorry I've been taking so long to get back to it. I'm leveled up now. I replaced Scribe Scroll with Spell Penetration, and took Persistent Spell as my level 7 feat.
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
Made it. Lots of pain, but good people to help me through it.
Greenly Baerdóttir |
Deep apologies for my unannounced absence, it has been an INSANELY busy time of year, But rest assured I am alive, present, and willing to play, give me a couple days to catch up please, :-)
Meraki Hannan |
Hey everyone,
Still alive! I've been struggling with a major depressive phase coupled with some actually bad stuff going on IRL. I struggle with whether to come back or just drop out (semi-)gracefully, and I would like to continue if it's all right with y'all. I know it's been frustrating with how much trouble I've had lately.
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
What! No…please stay. We definitely want you keep playing.
DM Vayelan |

I would very much like to have you stay with us.
Don't worry. We're not frustrated at all. We all know how rough real life can be.
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
Are we ready to move on to the next section/phase then?
Amandine Santon |
Don't feel bad Meraki, I've been worse than you I'm sure. I'm still trying to get out from under the heavy work load and holidays handover to get back to normal.
Meraki Hannan |
I'm back, everyone. Sorry, stress has been a lot. Trying to just get back into posting something, even if it's not my life's greatest work lol
Greenly Baerdóttir |
Hey all, I've had a combo of bad house situations, internet issues and a broken phone but everything is fixed now sorry to just disappear
