It's night in the Port City in the Gray Kingdom. The ships have stopped selling their goods, the shops are closed, and anyone with half a mind have either gone home or gone to somewhere safe.
But not these three.
This night, their lives would change forever. Or, you know, just until the adventure's over.
Introduce yourselves. Whatcha doin in the bar?
Mishkara
A woman sits at one of the tables sipping on a tankard of mead. She is rather attractive for someone that seems to be more of a up front type fighter. She is clad in a shiny mythrial breast plate and had a large great axe across her back. She looks around the room carefully with her crystal blue eyes that are a lighter shade than her skin. She will smile to one of the barmaids before waving her over and requesting a drink of water.
Colette Dubois
A beautiful woman plays cards at a table nearby with large, burly pirates. The pirates have no hope to win the game, and are worried that not only will she out play them, but she will out drink and smoke them. She chews on the half-way-through cigar and laughs loudly as she plays a full house. The pirates hurry out as the nighttime ushers them out.
She finishes out her Cigar and downs the last of her pint of rum and screams for another one at the same barmaid that Miskara previously spoke to.
Capt. Jonas Gavigan
Capt. Jonas Walks through the door. after such, he surveys the room looking for willing and able-bodied men to join his new crew. He discovers a woman yelling at Nancy the barmaid, a good friend who has helped him in the past by telling him the banter whispered in the bar. Which has always ended in treasure. He walks towards the card player and asks room for one more player, lass? he turns to Nancy. Can I get some of that famous ol' spiced of yours, Nancy?
Colette Dubois
"Just a classic game of "Gentleman's Bushwhacking." Wanna join me, captain? Haven't seen you around here recently." Collette says to Jonas.
"Aasimar, it's just Gentleman's Bushwhacking. Anyone can play." Collette says to the Orcle. It's spelled Oracle, by the way. I'm keeping as proof.
Capt. Jonas Gavigan
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 I see that you are quick to cheat and at great speed no less! But nothing gets past my sight, lass! Jonas says as he catches her cheating.
I have need for the likes of you in my new crew are you up for it? Jonas says while He can't help but smile
The Nameless GM
Nancy the barmaid returns a moment later with the drinks Mishkara, Colette, and the Captain ordered. The Capt. drink is on the house. Miskara and Colette's drinks will have to be paid for.
The mouse runs under the table and then to its hole in the wall. Cute.
When the other gamblers hear that Colette is an expert at the art of slight of hand, most of them leave until only Colette, Miskara, and Capt. Jonas are at the table.
It is at this point that Nancy will approach the Capt. "The usual, sir? Room and breakfast? We had your room ready for your return."
Capt. Jonas Gavigan
Yes please, I'll take my affects to my room in a moment.
He turns to Colette. Not as often as I used too anyways
after which He grabs a chair and stands on it and yells My fellow beer-soaked bastards, my sons of whores, I come to you all today to give you the deal of a lifetime. To sail the far reaching seas for ancient treasures untold and pure unrelenting adventure! So which one of you are brave and bold enough to sail under the Captain Jonas Gavigan!

After which Jonas sits down with 2 pieces of paper. one with several roman numerals possibly a set of rules for the crew and him to follow by, the other completely blank except for many lines for names to be put.
for those to read the paper with rules
II. Every man to be called fairly in turn, by list, on board of prizes because, (over and above their proper share) they were on these occasions allowed a shift of clothes: but if they defrauded the company to the value of a dollar in plate, jewels, or money, marooning was their punishment. If the robbery was only betwixt one another, they contented themselves with slitting the ears and nose of him that was guilty, and set him on shore, not in an uninhabited place, but somewhere, where he was sure to encounter hardships.
III. No person to game at cards or dice for money.
IV. The lights and candles to be put out at eight o'clock at night: if any of the crew, after that hour still remained inclined for drinking, they were to do it on the open deck.
V. To keep their piece, pistols, and cutlass clean and fit for service.
VI. To desert the ship or their quarters in battle, was punished with death or marooning.
VII.No striking one another on board, but every man's quarrels to be ended on shore, at sword and pistol. (The quarter-master of the ship, when the parties will not come to any reconciliation, accompanies them on shore with what assistance he thinks proper, and turns the disputant back to back, at so many paces distance; at the word of command, they turn and fire immediately, (or else the piece is knocked out of their hands). If both miss, they come to their cutlasses, and then he is declared the victor who draws the first blood.)
VIII. No man to talk of breaking up their way of living, till each had shared one thousand pounds. If in order to this, any man should lose a limb, or become a cripple in their service, he was to have eight hundred dollars, out of the public stock, and for lesser hurts, proportionately.
IX. He that sees a Sail first, shall have the best Pistol or Small Arm aboard of her.
X. The Captain and First Mate to receive two shares of a prize: Navigator, boatswain, and gunner, one share and a half, and other officers one and quarter.
XI. The musicians to have rest on the Sabbath Day, but the other six days and nights, none without special favour.
XII.He that shall be guilty of Drunkenness in time of Engagement shall suffer what Punishment the Captain and Majority of the Company shall think fit.
Capt. Jonas Gavigan
IV. is for people that don't want to smell booze and throw up while their trying to sleep, so they go on the deck to drink. also to prevent our ship from burning down due people not keeping a watchful eye of the flames. for XII. that's a tricky one for sure you have to prove to me that you fight better drunk than sober, I had to adjust that rule for those bloody monks... And you can't gamble for MONEY because that would cause people to cheat more often then not, but you can always get your gambling fix for food, clothing, equipment, etc etc. all in all its to make sure everyone keep their fair share of loot and does not try killing everyone over a few coins.
Jonas grabs ink and a feather and places it on the table.
Now that I have given you reasons and a loophole around a rule, I'm positive you hate. you can possibly can change or get rid of the rule due to everyone having the same right of speech to change the rules. This was just what I had determined fit to prevent too much issue for the crew. But if you don't want to join and earn piles upon piles of gold, I'm sure you can find another line of work...
Capt. Jonas Gavigan
It won't be hard to miss it I assure you. now I'm going to be leaving soon to purchase supplies for our trip. He turns to Colette and Mishkara. Aassimar, Card player, would you follow me to the docks. I need to do something the requires more then one person. Do well enough and I might actually remember your names.
He says after he is sure everyone in the crew has signed then gestures the two to follow him to the docks.
Capt. Jonas Gavigan
as they walk down the ally, he makes sure no one else is around before he speaks as he is heading to the docks. there is an issue I have come across, I sailed here on a dingy, due to my preveous ship being stolen from my last bloody crew. Of which I am considering two options to fix this matter, stealing a ship OR buying the ship then stealing the money back. If we steal the money I'm sure we will be leaving with more then I came with. I would be glad spilt it with you all except for the money I'll be using which I'll be disclosing later when I have to do what needs to be done... Do you both find the terms acceptable?
He takes a swig of rum.
Think of it as a teamwork exersise.
Capt. Jonas Gavigan
Anyways, let's head over to the docks and acquire us a seaworthy ship.
we head down to the shipyard. An area that smells strongly of fish and spices due to the trading alley literally being on a line of docks. Where trader come far and wide, in the hopes to make a living. as well as for street urchins and thiefs of every kind. Yay, robbery
Capt. Jonas Gavigan
I'm more than sure enough that the dock-master has Ships ready to sell, as for leaving with what we came with and more, That's a different story. I usually don't plan that far ahead so because I usually have a lot of options to go with right on the spot. maybe you could tell his fortune with those swift cards of yours, Colette. After the discussion, they reach the dock-master's office. Jonas tries to adjust himself to be a bit more formal and not so much pirate. looks back at Colette and Mishkara for a spilt second and knocks on the door.
The Nameless GM
There's no response for quite a while. When your curiosity gets the better of you and you knock again, there's a loud yell from the office. "WE ARE CLOSED!!" Come back in the morning!"
The harbor master is a busy man in the day, and a tired man at night. Needless to say, he's not gonna want to speak to you at night. Which also means he's not going to want to wake up until later.
Capt. Jonas Gavigan
no, let's stay a little tactful here. He whispers back.
I am quite sorry to bother you at this hour but I would like to get this business of acquiring a ship done by the end of the day. A longship or sailingship, of which the Average price is ten thousand gold. I'd be willing to add an extra seven hundred to change your mind.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
The Nameless GM
The office is silent for a minute, then the door opens and a man in a sleep robe opens the door. He's not really a Man, more like a Teifling. "Please step inside. I feel this could be a beneficial deal for the both of us."
Inside, a proper application of commandeerance is filled out for the ship formerly known as the Red Raider. Two masts plus the front and rear sails give this two deck plus hold former merchant vessel a chance for renewed vigor.
The following information needs to be filled out for the application to be complete:
In order to have the ship sail in Golden Rule waters, the captain would need to register his personal insignia as well as the ship's name and crew list. The Grey Kingdom doesn't have as strict laws.
The Harbor Master agrees that payment for the ship can wait for 1 week. At which point it must be paid in full plus interest.
Capt. Jonas Gavigan
Captain: Jonas Gavigan
First Mate: Yet to rank
Medic: Colette Dubois
Total Crew: 28
Occupation: Mercantile, Personal
Old Title: Red Raider
the insignia looks like an open hand and on the palm is a black iconic keyhole.
I would rather pay in full right now and get it out of the way I plan to be sailing almost immediately after provisions are set up.
Capt. Jonas Gavigan
perception to see where he places the bag of gold and if there is any chest that would hold the gold: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Why, thank ye. I wish you a well rest and I am sorry to bother you at this hour.
after leaving the dockmaster's home, Jonas waits for around an hour and returns to the dockmaster's home.
perception to see if dockmaster is sleeping: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

The Harbor Master takes the bag of gold and pours the coins into a gold goblet on his desk. After the bag is empty he snaps his fingers and you hear a pile of money fall inside a chest behind him. Knowledge Arcana to know what the heck just happened.
When the captain returns, he sees the Harbormaster has gone back to sleep. Nobody sees him, not even Mishkara.
The Nameless GM
Jonas remembers that there was a keyring on the Harbor Master's belt. Maybe it's still there. He doesn't see a keyring anywhere in the main study or in the living room. Maybe it's in the Harbor Master's room.
Keep the same stealth roll.
Jonas manages to sneak up to the Harbor Master's room. He can hear the captain breathing lightly in his sleep. Sure enough, there's the key ring, hanging on the Harbor Master's belt on a hook on the wall.
Another Stealth to pick it up without a sound. And another to stay hidden should you get caught, just in case.
Outside, a pair of guards walk over to Colette and Mishkara. "Hey, what are you doing outside this time of night?"
