Oread Ceremonies
Funerals: Day long preparation of the body, including washing, chants, and treatment with soils and herbs to ensure the deceased is accepted by the burial tree. Choosing the burial tree varies between tribes – sometimes a person chooses their own tree when they are old enough to be a full member of the tribe, other times the tree is chosen by the family of the deceased. Night-long celebration follows.
Births: After the baby is born and the gender determined, the men (for a boy) or women (for a girl) of the tribe, along with the mother and father, take the infant and perform various ceremonies and blessing. These often involve determining the spirit animal (for men) or spirit plant (for women) of the child, using either bones or seeds.
First Hunt: The First Hunt of the new year is a particularly important time for most tribes, as it sets the tone for a successful year, or a year of misfortune. Full-fledged warriors are not allowed to return to the village until they have made a kill that they believe is worthy of the tribe.
Healing: Elaborate wooden carvings, made from naturally fallen trees, comprise the majority of natural healing among the tribes. The selection and use of various carvings is passed down between generations of shamans.
Personal Tools: When an adolescent is ready to become a full member of the tribe, one of their first duties if to create their own tools: weapons for a warrior, a medicine bag for a shaman, etc.
Winter and Summer Meets: Various friendly competitions, including wrestling, archery, spear throwing, dances, hunting.
Standing: The Gray Father's command is to “Be Unyielding”. On the day of Standing, six chosen tribe members (child, warrior, and elder; male and female) take part in fasting and a 24-hour long standing vigil in the center of the tribe.

(I'll eventually put all this in the Campaign Info tab)
Oread Superstitions
Killing a bird on Fallenday is bad luck
Do not kill more than the tribe needs
For certain types of tree, encountering the first blooms or buds of spring is considered good fortune
Use of beads as ornamentation varies between tribes – some that are considered good luck by one tribe might be considered bad luck by another
Vultures are a sign of ill-omen
Bad weather during a Meet is a sign of misfortune
A burial tree that withers or dies shortly after the deceased is buried could be a curse on the family name
Many tools and medicines are “personal”, and should not be used by others
Cutting down a burial tree is an offense of the highest order
Beavers are considered very good luck, and perform their work with the blessing of Forest

Still here and ready to go!
Also - forgive me as I am a little new to the PbP boards, but where in the alias/Profile should I paste the tagline script?
The template actually explains that--you put the first piece in Race, the second piece in Classes, and the third piece in Race. Those three things will show up underneath your name in the Gameplay and Discussion threads.
Fiordelise
Profiled,
Have also realized that I never got around to gearing up, so I'd better get on that now.
Avatar is subject to change if I find something a little closer to what's in my head.
Would be nice if we could both achieve a balance of classes and represent all four races in both parties, but I haven't been through all the applicants to check if that's viable...

Err, the third piece in Gender, not race a second time.

Thank you everyone for your confirmations!
I'm looking forward to seeing final aliases for Obedie and Kallik, but we've still got to do a little "who knows who previously" stuff to do, so it's not holding up the campaign by any means.
Herkymr, do you think you can find an image for your alias tonight?
Planning on posting tonight about:
--My plan for teams
--"Other" religions outside of the major gods
--Very basic clothing styles for the races

Would I be able to leave my extra languages blank and learn them in game?
Hmm, I'm more comfortable with your languages being based on your past (Sedime would certainly make sense, for instance)
However, I'm pretty open when it comes to minor changes in your character after we've been playing for a little bit. If you realize Maker Script (for example) makes no sense for your character and you're not getting any use out of it, I have no issue with that.

Ok I literally cannot think of anything for the secret she knows. So if anyone has an idea I will listen. This is the one part of this style of back ground I have always struggled with.
I do have more details on the secret that she knows nothing of though.
She knows nothing of her actual lineage. There is Sylph and Fey in her blood. I would like the Fey to have originated as a curse from a Fey but I have yet to figure out how. The Sylph lineage comes from a romantic entanglement. The child of that union joined the East tribe to escape the oddness of his family. That person was her great grandfather. Who never spoke of it to his family.
While she has heard people talk about it the details are always vague. Kallik had a twin, born just before her. But they are gone now. She has visited his burial tree. This is the part that she knows. What she does not know is that there is no body there just the bloody cloth he was first swaddled in. Her twin was taken to pay a blood dept.
What has happened to her twin is unknown. He may be dead or living but what matters is that she has no idea about the blood debt or what happened to her twin. Something has always felt off to her and that is the weird bond that twins have.
I would really like to capitalize on that twin bond and for her twin to still be alive. Perhaps changed into a Fey and living with the other stole members of his family what every Fey is doing this or whatever you think is good for the story. Wither he is a baddy or not I am cool with it. With the twin bond I would like there to be occasional dreams where they see what is happening in each other's lives. But it is hazy. Maybe crisp and clear when they were children but as they grew all they got are glimpses of the others surrounding and feelings.

Teams!
Here are my thoughts on teams:
The "City" Team
These are characters that have very strong ties to Hearth:
--Fiordelise
--Byron
--Osric
--Obedie
For Obedie, it's not explicit in your background yet - would you mind having been in Hearth for a while (even if its just a few months?)
The "Outsider" Team
These are characters that are just arriving in town:
--Brinn
--Inam
--Kallik
--Ibinu
Kallik and Ibinu: Your backgrounds don't explicitly say when you arrived in Hearth - would you mind if it were either A) you are just arriving, or B) you arrived very recently?
Osric Ferret
So, the city team has the following makeup.
Osric Ferret: male LN sylph investigator
Byron Cheme: male CG sylph alchemist
Fiordelise Incarna: female NG Ifrit skald
Obedie of the North Forest: make LG oread paladin
Osric and Byron have an easy connection, both being sylph alchemists of some form, they probably share knowledge (and probably patronage) of a shop or vendor of alchemical reagents.
Obedie and Osric probably know each other through Hearth's legal system. Osric probably feels Obedie is too much of a softy, even for a stone paladin. Obedie probably disapproves of Osric's methods.
It's harder to work out a link between Osric and Fiordelise. I'm not sure where to go with that one.
Whiskey and a Bonesaw
For Obedie, it's not explicit in your background yet - would you mind having been in Hearth for a while (even if its just a few months?)
Not at all, the original background I had written (it died with the profile) had him living in Hearth most of the year; mostly because I didn't see the tribes as having 'police'. I figured he only ever went back to the home country twice a year or so and otherwise worked as a mediator in the Oread neighborhoods - helping defuse tensions between city-folk and newcomers, making sure people understand the difference between what's allowed in the forest and what's allowed in the city, that kind of thing.
Kallik Sisa
Stupid computer ate all of my work. Not fair. I have her done but the 10 minuet background is not on there yet since I am fiddling with it.
As to the numbers of people I am gonna share. I am currently in a Mummies Mask PbP with nine players. The perk to having a big party in a PbP is that no one really has to maximize their PCs, if life gets in the way for one player then the game doesn't have to slow down waiting for them, you have more people to interact with, and splitting the party is way easier. And most games tend to have people drop shortly after it gets going. Which could cause issues. I have no real preference though, I just wanna play :D
Concerning my name I am going to change it a little. Sisa means flower and that was her given name. Her grandfather called her Kallik. Once leaving the tribe she will always refer to herself as Kallik Sisa.
She would have just arrived in Hearth. That day is fine by me. I know nothing of that place, really, so it works.
The outsiders team looks like it is made up of
Ibinu gilas Akoi - Slyph - Male - True Neutral - Barbarian 1
Inam Smithrock - Female LG Sylph Paladin (Chosen One) 1
Brinn the Wit - Male NG Undine Druid (Watersinger) 1
Kallik Sisa - Female NG Oread Bloodrager (crossblooded Air Elemental & Fey) 1
Byron Cheme

I can certainly see Byron excitedly talking about the various uses of sulfur with a fellow Sylph. :D
Brinn the Wit
Working on the last couple of minutes of Brinn's background and connections ideas, and should have something by later tonight. It is ok with me for having just arrived (sort of like Luke Skywalker entering Mos Eisely Spaceport...), or been in Hearth a few days, whatever makes the most sense for our group - we can see what sorts itself out.
(And PS...Brinn is a Bard :) )

"Home" Team

"New to Town" Team
Your discussion thread is here:
Note I'm using a different alias for the "new to town" group so I can distinguish between my different posts more easily.
We can keep this recruitment thread as a base of operations in terms of general questions about the campaign until we actually start.
Brinn the Wit
Oky doke - I will start posting in the New to Town Thread, but I just had a general question on the overall flavor. Is it safe to assume that although there are racial-type limits and cultures to deal with, people will laugh or cry at the same kinds of things?
For example, what sort of reaction would someone get telling the following little story...
A mother and her four children were walking down a road with fields of flowers on either side. The first child asks her mother, "Mama, why is my name Rose?" The mother replies, "Well darling, a rose petal fell on your head when you were born." The second child then asks, "Mama, why is my name Lily?" The mother replies, "Because dearest, a lily petal fell on your head when you were born." The third child, also curious, asks, "Mama, why is my name Daisy?" The mother again replies" Well, sweetheart, when you were born a daisy petal fell on your head." The last child looks up at his mother and says, "Duh huh guh nuh!" The mother replies, "Hush now, Rock."

That's an interesting question! The easiest answer is that I think individual taste will account for a given person's sense of humor (or sorrow) more than their race will.
In your example, I think the majority of people would give a chuckle at the end of that joke, since the punchline is amusing. More so than race, I think that individual taste would dictate negative reactions (a man coming from a stern household where jokes were considered a waste of time, or the mother of a child that is often ridiculed as "slow")
Miner Cotren
Alright, I believe the last remaining "general" questions I have yet to answer are:
1) Dress styles (besides oreads)
2) Other minor religions
3) Servants of the gods, heralds
Let me know if I missed anything. I'll be giving a last once-over of all the profiles over the next day or so.
A lot of stuff is scattered in this thread so please when in doubt, put information pertinent to your character (background, previous relationships, secrets, goals, etc, etc) in your profile and make liberal use of spoiler tags.

CLOTHING
Rather than describing these, I found some pics that do a better job:
Also, keep in mind that this is essentially 'civilian' clothing. People will dress differently if they are a guard, thief, etc.
---------
Oread:
roughly native american; leathers with some ornamentation
Ifrit:
roughly renaissance Italian, but pants instead of hose. no hose allowed!
Undine:
roughly traditional Vietnamese, emphasis on colorful attire. robes would be functional, and easy to tie tightly to allow for swimming
Sylph:
roughly industrial britain, especially the basic worker's clothes - also some top hats and overly ruffled dresses etc for fancy clothing to try and mimic Ifrit high fashion

SERVANTS/HERALDS
Volcano
Fire Elementals serve as "mundane" servants of Volcano, acting as mediators between Mighty Volcano and his children. Uncommon for an elemental to interact with anyone outside the priesthood.
Phoenixes are the light of inspiration and hope from Volcano. In times of great need in the past, a phoenix has been known to appear on the battlefield against the Dark.
The Thrasfyro is sent only as a punishment to the unfaithful. If a town or village acts too selfishly or forgets its duties, it will be consumed in fire. This has not happened in generations.
Great Forest
Earth Elementals in the shape of mundane animals rove all over Forest, acting as protector and nourishment for the Tribes.
Treants, or wood elementals, are true servants of Forest, unlike the lesser earth elementals. Found mostly around the Quiet Elders.
The mysterious king and queen of the fey are not precisely servants of Forest; it has been speculated that they are her offspring.
River
Water Elementals of all shapes, sizes, and dispositions can be found serving River's will. Tiny water elementals are by far the most common of all the gods' servants in the land. Very rare for one to appear in the presence of non-undine, however.
Mực ống, the deadly water behemoth of legend, is the harbinger of River's wrath. This creature has not been seen in hundreds of years.
Sky
Air Elementals have not been seen since Sky fell (unless one believes the rantings of madmen and fools).

OTHER RELIGIONS
Worshipers of the Dark: an alarming amount of cults dedicated to the Dark, or to the monstrous darkspawn that ooze and crawl out of the Dark, have been found around the Land. Though the specifics of how and why they worship vary, all those infected by the taint of the Dark seem to share one common characteristic: black veins that become more pronounced the more corrupted the elen becomes.
Aspect Worship: Not strictly 'heresy' according to the Church, but Forge has a very strong presence of ifrits that worship the Warrior exclusively, and do not pray directly to Volcano.
Ancestral Guidance: The three orean monastic orders (Branch, Leaf, Root) all eschew worship of Forest and emphasize ancestors and orean wisdom as the path to enlightenment.
Weather Worshipers: Not worshipers of Sky – these sylphs (and the rare undine) insist that a new god, Weather, has arisen from Sky's death. No spells or powers of any kind have been witnessed from a “Weather” worshiper.
Elementalism: Given the relatively common appearance of water elementals, many rural undine take to worshiping their local water elementals over River.
